Best local bakery. So good if you really need it wasn't an item you need to be sure to either order the night before online for pick up, or stage in line with the rest of us before they open and pray they have what you want. We love a few of the breads we've tried so far and ESPECIALLY love the danishes and vanilla cinnamon rolls. Between those two sweets all the kids and adults are beyond happy. Fit every 6 sweet you get the 7th free. Keep that in mind when ordering. We have so many items on our list to try, but I can't imagine not loving everything.

Grand Central Bakery bakes their bread daily and they offer some excellent loafs, but you can also get amazing sandwiches there too. The Blue Ribbon is a particular favorite. It's a salty cold delight perfect for a warm summer day and is best enjoyed on a park bench or under a tree. When eaten ice-cold there is almost the perfect sensation of eating a wedge salad at a fancy restaurant. The thinly sliced roast beef and blue cheese mayo highlight each other and the freshly baked potato bun adds a semi-sweet accent. We added havarti to the Blue Ribbon on a whim when the option presented itself and it definitely belongs on the sandwich. For a few extra dollars we made it a sack-lunch order, which added chips and one of their large house-made cookies to complete the nostalgic picnic adventure. Typically a blue ribbon is awarded to first place winners and those of high prestige. Grand Central Bakery deserves one for this sandwich.

I have been buying bread and goods here for myself and others for over a decade. I am truly grateful for the updated ability to order online, but nothing beats stepping into the shop. The mouth-watering fragrance of fresh bread, the aromas of sugar and coffee, the delightful goods arrayed in the case… it’s an amazing experience. Another thing— in the time I have been a customer, the service was usually pretty good, but in recent years, it’s been especially excellent. Where some other places have been struggling with their team, the crew that works here is consistently positive and upbeat and provides fast service. I find the team warm, has a sense of humor, and they seem genuinely happy to be working there. That’s great to see. I stopped by today for a sandwich and realized that this place always makes me happy. Thank you for being a local touchstone and spot of joy for my family.

Got a couple sandwiches from lunch today & what an unpleasant surprise - ordering sandwiches directly from a bakery & getting bread that was SO HARD we literally could not take a bite without microwaving each sandwich half for 30 seconds. I've never bought Grand Central baguettes in a grocery store that's been this hard. They'd have been thrown out!! I guess you need to call in your order if you want bread that's been baked before like 3 days ago? [EDIT] thank you for the link but it takes me to a page that has the option to order but no comment field. I'd attach a screenshot if I could! PS: those baguettes were DEFINITELY not baked today. They were rock hard... [EDIT 2] Ahhhh I have to go to your social media to make a comment! I only have Insta so sent a message there.

Awesome staff! Very welcoming and nice! We’re starting out our road trip today. The first grand central we went to didn’t have cinnamon rolls anymore so we came to this one. The person who took our order was very nice and demonstrated great customer service skills! She even gave us an extra cinnamon roll! Too shame I only realized that she gave us an extra cinnamon roll when we already left and opened the box (cus I couldn’t hear what she was saying). We didn’t get her name either:( She definitely deserves a big raise and promotion! She made our day and a great start of our trip! Grand central staff are awesome! Food is very good too! I go to grand central literally every weekend!

Jammers are awesome! But I suggest taking them to go, the service here hasn't been great in my experience, the tables can be really gross and sticky (I don't think employees keep an eye out for this throughout the day and it seems like things get a wipedown at the end of the day? Also the stations with milk and sweeteners are never stocked or tidy.) The coffee is really terrible. The baked goods are consistently yummy, but I think that's where all the attention goes: not to friendly customer service, not to drinks, nor to the dining room. Pastries and bread are worth buying but not worth eating there.

Great atmosphere great breakfast goodies Excellent was to start the day. Update: it's been over two years since we, as a family, broke bread together at a table inside a Grand Central Bakery. It was nice ... felt nostalgic to dine at the blond birch table with the oversized pictures of chickens watching us ... food is the same - well crafted, satisfying and rich but they don't have the tray of butter and home-made jam out, and only one container of cream ( no 2%, oat, soy ) available. Prices have gone up min 25%. So the same but restrained feeling. Glad they made it thru the pandemic.

  • Nate F

The bad - prices can be a little high. A chocolate croissant is $4.15 which is pretty high, and some of the other baked goods are a little steep. They're good, but I would come here twice as often if they were a little cheaper. Sandwiches can take a while to be made. I was the only one in the store and it took about 12 minutes to make one sandwich for me. The good - food is really good. Tuna melt is fresh and satisfying. As far as I know, pretty much everything is made fresh daily. I would check this place out at least once if you live in the area.

  • Laurance Walden

Underwhelming for the price. Good sandwiches but other than the fresh bread, exactly what you'd make at home. $14 and change for a turkey bacon, add 3.90 for a small bag of chips and a cookie, so over $20 with tip. Drink extra. Counter service, they bring food to your table, you bus it yourself. They don't bring napkins with the food, so make sure to get them yourself before you sit down. And only one kind of mustard available, so you'd better like Dijon. All open tables were dirty with previous customers crumbs.

  • Sung Cho

Delicious! It's a little in a pricy side imho but really tasty we got the baguettes and pastries and a bacon cheddar croissant and sausage biscuit that were all really good. The sausage in the biscuit is thick if you are a sausage person. The highlight was sweet potato tart was so dang good I regretted not buying more. The almond croissant was also very good. The pecan sticky bun and biscuit was a little dry but could be the time of day we went. Overall good experience and would go back again soon.

Happy to able to visit this bakery a few times a month. Prices are actually pretty reasonable for an American bakery and everyone is friendly. I dream of the shrimp rolls that they have in summer, and my family loves the croissants and their filled variations. My only complaint is the limited hours. A bakery that doesn't open until 8 and closes shop at 3 makes it hard for a working person to get there for their breakfast pastry or load of bread for dinner.

  • E.A

My favorite bakery. Their pastries are decadent french style- flakey buttery bits of magic. Their sandwiches are amazing, and their coffee is probably the best in the area. You can also grab loaves of bread here such as their delicious kalamata olive bread. Try to come at an in between time though- people know it is good, and there is often a line, though they work through it quickly. The staff is very friendly, and their latte art is super cute.

  • Robert Henley

Breakfast sandwiches are great. I had a sausage, 2 eggs, on bolo bread. My wife had the sausage biscuit sandwich. If eating in the coffee has free refills. Multiple locations in Portland and they use locally produced ingredients. Can’t go wrong eating breakfast or lunch at Grand Central bakery. Oh, the pastries are to die for. Currently the blackberry tummy made with local blackberries is very good. Worth the trip just for one of them.

  • Wade Golden

I loved their pastries so much, that I ended up going three days in a row. Everything sweet was excellent. Biscuits were a minor disappointment, but being from the South, I have very high standards. Most staff were friendly, but one guy clearly was annoyed with me for ordering a dozen cookies and half a dozen pastries. Maybe don't make him a customer facing employee? Minor annoyance at best. I still recommend this place.

  • Teresa Hunter

Oh how we miss our criosants and coffee cake. I've used the Como bread for tri tip sandwiches for more than a decade. You are missed. My stint in Portland 2007 to 2002. Thank you Grand Central, you have also donated to various causes as well as places and folks I've have worked for. All the Best, Tress. PS: I'll soon return for a visit. I wish there was a way to get those crossants online to, to go all the way to SoCal.

  • Rita Curtis

This has been my go-to place for a Local lunch for years. Such good sandwiches. Love the ham on Como. Sad though that over the past 8-10 months my sandos have gone downhill. Don’t get why a BAKERY is serving stale bread. That should be the reason to buy a sandwich at a bakery, right? Step it up, GC! Go back to using bread for lunch that was baked that morning please. Chuck yesterdays bread into the donation bin.

  • Quest Lee

Standard cafe/bakery. Pastries are tasty, very sweet and a bit pricey. Love their kale Caesar and the veggie grinder. My favorite thing about this place is the blurry picture of a chicken in the far back corner If you've got some work to catch up on and like busy cafe noise to keep you focused, this is a good spot. Parking is limited in their lot but street parking in the area isn't hard to find.

  • Debra Bray

The best bakery with all kinds of breads, sweets, awesome sandwiches, soups and pastries for breakfast or lunches. Just a well established bakery with many locations in Portland and also the Seattle area. There is so much to enjoy in this bakery that you will be overwhelmed with all the great breads, sweets, savory items and the freshest local products that are used ...you will be amazed!! GO GO!!

  • Rose OKeefe

Best local bakery! I love everything at this place. My go to comfort foods are the jammer and the coffee cake. The mini cakes are awesome, in particular when they have the coconut cake. I love their breakfast sandwiches (try on a croissant) and tomato relish. Speaking of croissants the almond one is outstanding. The veggie grinder sandwich is awesome. The soups are great. I could go on and on.

  • Micah Arnold

This place was outrageously delicious. I was in heaven the moment I saw the dessert presentation. I felt like I was a kid in a candy store and I couldn't select what I wanted. I finally narrowed it down to the Bread Pudding and oh my!!!! They know how to make a delicious one. Normally it is overly moist, however this one had a crisp top and the inside wasn't overly moist. Delicious.....

  • Taylor Baysinger

Great coffee, incredible bread, amazing pastries that aren't too sweet, delicious soups, salads, and sandwiches, wonderful, friendly service, plenty of seating, and highchairs and booster seats for little ones -- this place is the bomb. It's my favorite place to go when I want to grab coffee and a snack and I am never disappointed. So glad to have this bakery in my neighborhood.

  • Ioana Marin

This place is a legit bakery. Tried 3 of their pastries: The croissants are crisp, flaky, and have all the proper layers. The cheese danish had great flavor and right sweetness balance, but the pastry got a bit soggy under the icing. The jammer biscuit had the tenter texture of a biscuit without being dry. Altogether pretty good pastries. I have pretty high standards.

  • m.w. brooke

a very busy bakery tucked away in multnomah village, grand central is the bread source for many restaurants in the portland area. their bread is very consistently good, and their breakfast sandwiches are simple but yummy, with an agreeable price tag. their home-made sausage patty is filled with flavor, and the biscuit, while somewhat dense, is tasty and substantial.

  • Jeff

I was unable to make my yeast roles for Thanksgiving this year and looked for a local bakery in the area as a substitute. I ordered their buttermilk dinner roles and they were amazing! Everyone enjoyed them and received great reviews about them from my family. They also make yummy pastries for instance their Maple Danish and Blueberry muffins were off the charts!

  • Laurie Shentalevenn

I didn't know that Grand Central Bakery had a location in Multnomah Village, but it was a welcome surprise. I love Grand Central Bakery's sandwiches and salads, and I was there to get a box of heart shaped, frosted, "Love" sugar cookies and jam filled Lindzer cookies to give away for Valentine's Day. I also love their bread! My sweethearts loved the cookies!

  • Avanza Buffalo

this place reminds me of NY, the croisant bagets and all those delicious rolls are a delight to the palate with a good cup of coffee! the prices on some products feel a little expensive ... well, .... if you like it and they are first quality, you pay it! Excellent! This is a pandemic time, anyway they do the best in Customer service! Good job!

  • Joanna Steven

I won't lie, Grand Central Bakery was one reason I moved to Portland. The pastries are delicious, and the biscuits are amazing. The Chai is out of this world. The employees are all wonderful. I wish parking was a little easier and the hours longer but that's it. The sasquatch is one of my favorite sandwiches and my mom lives off their soups

  • Quinnell Flanagan

I absolutely adore this place! The staff are friendly, and the pastries, sandwiches, bread, and drinks are out of this world. It can get busy sometimes, and the floor-plan of this particular location isn’t the best for “distancing”, but they have options for ordering online/pickup and…them being busy just shows how amazing this place is!!

  • J. Collins

First started coming here for their incredible artisan breads towards the end of the last century. Work brought me closer and I soon became a happy victim of their soups and sandwiches too!!!

Would be a 5 star review if they were able to warm up the pastries. There’s nothing like a delicious warm cinnamon roll. The cute window seating was nice and we really enjoyed the coffee. But boy, a bakery should be able to warm up and serve pastries the way they should be eaten. A cold pecan sticky bun just isn’t right.

  • Jay Slupesky

Grand Central is a super high-quality bakery. My wife has their cookbook but we had never visited in person. We arrived about 10:00 on a Thursday morning, and it was busy! People were lined up waiting for a table to open up. We didn't have time to wait, so we bought some pizza dough and chicken pot pies to take home.

  • Mettie Foglio

SO good. The woman at the front counter was so very helpful. I ordered the biscuit and egg sandwich and she suggested that I get a side of jam with it because the biscuit is so big that you can eat the other half with jam. I also got a cinnamon that was delish. It took a little bit of time, but it was worth it!!!

  • Michelle Benikov

Absolutely the best bakery in town. I can’t say enough about the kind staff and the amazing bread. If you want to eat some home baked bread but you don’t want to bake it or you’ve run out of yeast check out Grand Central. The Multnomah village location is currently open and doing pick up/to go orders!

  • Jay Courtney-Leocadio

Oh. My. Goodness. The brioche cinnamon roll was like nothing I've ever eaten! Absolutely amazing! The folks were friendly and fast and do a great job of keeping things clean, sanitized, and safe. Thank you for an amazing cinnamon roll and a fantastic experience. I will be going back again soon!

  • Johanna Bettis

Always great baked goods! The Multnomah Village location has done well working with Covid restrictions and still being customer friendly. My particular favorite lately has been the Veggie Grinder. Such great flavors brought together on a wonderful fresh seeded baguette. I happily recommend it!

  • Brad Tait

Though accessing this location can be extraordinarily frustrating due to limited and difficult parking options, its food is terrific. The sandwiches are, almost uniformly, excellent - particularly the French-style ham and cheese and the basil egg salad. Also, really terrific baked treats.

  • Rob Melton

What do you get when you start every morning with the freshest ingredients? Perfectly delicious Grand Central baked goods and beverages, and the best-tasting breakfasts and lunches. The only thing that would be better would be a book of their yummy recipes. Oh, wait, they sell that, too!

  • Chad Gillock

Always fresh, always from scratch, and usually locally sourced. More importantly IT'S DELICIOUS!!! They make sandwiches to order. I frequently order tarts, muffins, croissants, and coffee from them. They're always quick to make a fresh batch of coffee if it's getting low. Good stuff!

  • Xiao-Yue Han

Delicious baked goods and breakfast foods from a staple in the Multnomah Village community. While we've never dined in, there are plenty of areas for seating. The parking lot can be a bit small for the volume that goes through here so plan accordingly. Great spot to walk or bike to.

  • Justine Merrill

When I lived in Multnomah Village I went down here constantly. The Irish soda bread are fantastic. And I always take home a loaf of sliced whole-grain bread. Soups are good sandwiches are good excellent place to eat lunch. Now I just visit once a month and take the goodies home

  • Ian Stroszeck

Good company mission, but the food was very overpriced for what you were getting. I got the French ham sandwich, which took 15 minutes to make and used bread that was rock hard to the point of hurting my jaw to eat. The bread felt stale. The cheese danish was all right though.

  • Brendan

Delicious fresh baked sections of both pastry and breads. There is a counter to order sandwiches and coffee which makes it a perfect place to visit on a weekend morning. Be prepared for a line! There is seating both inside and out and takeout is an option if you are on the go.

  • Cory Madden

I've been eating Grand Central's bread for the past month and just realized that this cafe was the same company. Well, I just had to go check it out. I have nothing bad to say about this place. Quality mocha, nice folks, and probably the best croissant sandwich I've ever had.

  • Tyler Gore

Best breakfast sandwich the family has had in a long time. Caught it at the right time after traveling for hours food was great all fresh croissants and ingredients only down fall is a really small parking area and the line gets long verry fast with only one ordering window

Placed an order online; paid for an American onsite; planned to pick up my pre-order when my coffee was ready, I found out there was a separate proceedure for pick up for each transaction, not a big issue but nothing should have been stated when the coffee was picked up

  • Andrew Hartman

Food is great, but the speed of service is atrocious. It should not take 25 minutes to make a turkey sandwich. There is no sense of urgency and if you show up around the lunch hour, give yourself 45-60 minutes unless a all you are getting is coffee and bakery items.

  • Logan Bishopric

Sandwiches and pastries are well prepped and taste amazing! Quick service for a meal or social gathering and the environment makes for a great place to meet for coffee or a pastry. I would recommend the bread pudding or cookies but all the pastries are worth a try.

Got the chocolate croissants, cheese and pesto croissant, pecan pullapart, and a loaf of the sourdough (as one should). We loved everything - so delicious and fresh! Line moved quick and staff was very friendly. Parking gets crowded but opens up quickly too!

  • Natalie Ackerman

Amazing sandwiches! And surprisingly quick service. Even when they are a little busy and have a line going, I have never waited long for my order. The pastries and treats are great as well. If you need a yummy lunch or tasty snack, this is a great option.

  • Gregor Macdonald

Long lines. Extremely slow service. Staff that can't answer questions about the bread, or don't even know the products. Strange pricing that's out of alignment with the same product at the supermarket. Avoid. Best just to get what you can at Fred Meyer.

  • Claire Kelly

Great place to get a pastry. Their sandwiches and soups are also good, but double check your to go order before you leave just in case. They've messed up a couple of my orders, but are always quick to fix it and sometimes even throw in a free pastry.

  • Haely

they have the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had! I also really enjoy their grilled cheese and fresh bread. it's clear they put lots of effort into what they produce, and prioritize quality. i have never been disappointed with what i've ordered here.

  • James 5385

Friendly help, great service, delicious food. You cannot go wrong with the cheese Danish. Light flaky puff pastry, sweet cream filling. I will say their website is somewhat confusing, but I'm told they're working hard to fix it. Go there, be happy!

Had a great lunch here with our daughter. Family friendly, a number of tasty veggie options, and fantastic bread and baked goods. It was busy but there was just enough seating. The dining area is cozy and the place has a lively atmosphere.

Very friendly people work here! They are always busy because the food is so good, but the staff is reliably dedicated to quality food and excellent customer service. This bakery is always an option when we are in Portland visiting family.

  • Zoli Uebele

There are actual bakery items like loaves of bread and pastries for takeaway. There are also sandwiches, coffee ☕️, and tea. Seating available inside and out. It's one of the best parts of the Multnomah Village neighbourhood.

  • johndeeredad

Hands down the best bakery I've ever been to. Quaint. Delicious. Bread is the best. Latte dunkers. Best lattes in town after stumptown. Quality ingredients. And takeaway frozen pizza dough is flat out amazing. Parking sucks

  • patrick pugh

Always great bread, even with the ten to fifteen minute wait sometimes. Staff is great and quality is off the chart. Always a good choice for high quality beads, cookies, pastries, etc, and worth the slightly higher price.

  • Todd Laramie

I don't drink coffee but I had a cuppacino and it was good. Gave me a head rush. I also had a roast beef sandwich that was really good. I did find it a little bit pricey but the service was great. Was quick and friendly.

  • Anne M

Has deteriorated as they have grown so big. Pastry was a bit gummy. Coffee is just ok. Wish the workers would wear hairnets, sleeves and not make sandwiches with bare hands. I still like GC but not as much as I used to .

  • Jeffrey Cohen

I love Grand Central's Donut muffin and their triple chocolate cookies! The employees are not only friendly and courteous but have a gift for catering to the older clientele that frequent the Multnomah store.

  • Kelsey Fagan

Great sandwiches and pastries. Unfortunately they ran out of the special after we ordered but they accommodated and made a great sandwich in its place and gave us cookies to make up for it. Great service!

  • Molly McWaters

My pastry was amazing. But my sausage croissant was only okay and took a really long time to arrive at our table. I wish this location had more outdoor seating as the inside ambiance is a little lacking.

  • Ben

Great variety of freshly baked bread, pastries and cookies. You have to try the "dunkers"...always a delight! Furthermore nice selection of sandwiches and always worth a shot to try their soup!

  • Chelsey G

Best tuna melt in town! I haven't tried any of their sandwiches because it is too good to not order. It's full of capers and has Beecher's cheese. The monkey muffin is sticky, sweet perfection.

  • Richard Azzopardi

This is the first time I've been here and it was killer! Super freshly baked bread and homemade ingredients make their sandwiches quite tasty. The quiche is very flavorful, fluffy, and crisp.

  • Sheila Sammons

Great fresh bread! I've hit this bakery every time I've been to the valley, coming from the central coast. Every sandwich, choice of bread, or whim has been excellent. It's a must-visit spot!

  • Angela Yancy

I had a great sandwich for lunch today. Staff is friendly and helpful. Inside side smells delicious. Pastries look yummy. Indoor and outdoor seating available. I'll definitely return.

  • David Pasqualini

Excellent sandwich. Great bread. Disappointed about ordering two multi-grain muffins to go only to find out when I got home that she gave me two sticky buns instead. I threw them out.

  • Malcolm Montero

We came in during a rush for sure but the staff handled customers quickly but still personable. Always loved their breads definitely worth coming in to their cozy little Cafe bakery

  • Ellee Masterson

The food is always fantastic. I try to avoid the busy hours as the lines get pretty long. The restaurant portion is always clean. Great service and wonderful food. Highly recommend.

  • Candice Ray

Had a bacon croissant breakfast sandwich. Needed cheese and should just come with cheese but doesn't. Croissant was amazing bacon to salty. Also had the seasonal Danish. Delish.

  • Nara

Got ignored when I walked in, the drink I asked for iced was hot(could be because staff was super loud), and the kale salad not worth it and served in a super inconvenient dish.

  • Mohammad Bukhamsin

Kale salad worth craving. The viggie grinder is always fullfilling. The sourdough bread loaf is amazing for home. The croissant is so buttery that it takes you to another world.

  • Karl W

Love the bake good from this bakery. Coffee is good too. We tried a cinnamon roll, pecan pull apart and a jammer (a scone with Jam in a thumb print in the center). Will be back

  • TheSoloTourist

Awesome Bakery...They have the best Chai Latte.....Super Tasty....:p :) We didn't go to any startbucks in Portland as the city has amazing local coffee places & bakeries.

  • David Johnson

Delicious food and drink. Parking and seating is limited for how popular the bakery is. The outside seating under the pine tree is the best location if dining in outside

  • Ron Daggett

You got to have the pecan pull aparts!! Warning. You'll be hooked for life. Also don't forget to try the sourdough rye bread, it's delicious and healthy!

  • James Woods

Excellent bakery as always! Prompt, fast, and does good sandwiches and drinks. I recommend the chocolate croissants and their como bread especially.

  • Sabe Majeen

Great bread, food, and pastries...always a favorite. They also make good sandwiches, and some breakfast meals. The 'jammer' is one of my favorites.

  • Don Smith

The bread is always so delicious. The service is wonderful. The line goes very quick. Get there early because they sell out everyday
