My girlfriend and I recently stayed at this hotel. We were very happy with our experience and would be glad to share that with anyone considering this place. I booked this hotel through Google, and I thought I'd give it some feedback on the original platform. We were traveling by car. One major concern for us when looking for a hotel in the area was free parking. Not too many hotels in Quebec City offer free parking. This is an issue, especially when you are driving internationally. Hotel Universel offers ample and safe parking on the side parking lot. That, along with the down-to earth room prices, was a major factor for us. We had 2 really nice surprises: 1. Our room came with a jacuzzi, which was not initially advertised and was a big bonus. When you spend the day walking around, it is absolutely magical to relax there a bit. Very happy with that! 2. The staff - super kind and friendly people - gave us free bus tickets for the entire city network - for the duration of our entire stay there. This was absolutely incredible and highly appreciated - it helped us tremendously when exploring the area. The bus network is really good in Quebec City. There is a bus every 10-15 minutes to take you virtually anywhere (even to Montmorency Falls!!!). The good old Google Maps App does a pretty good job giving you directions about bus routes, timing, etc. No need for any additional apps whatsoever. Needless to say, even with the hotel's relatively remote location from Downtown Quebec City, the free bus tickets were a huge perk we were not expecting and truly appreciate. We were told this was something new the management was just introducing, and I hope they keep it, because it is very convenient and works really well. Our room was clean, with ample of storage - even a small fridge. If you prefer to buy some food and store it there, there is a huge supermarket just a block away from the hotel - La Pyramide (see the photo below). We had a balcony overlooking the indoor Aqua park, but since we were outside most of the time, we never really got to use it. Speaking of the Aqua Park, the kids noise and the smell of chlorine can be a problem for some people. We were fine with that - with our doors closed we had no issues whatsoever. Overall, our experience was great, and we would be happy to recommend this hotel to anyone.

We stayed at the hotel a few months ago. We selected the hotel as it was close to a family member. We also liked the fact that it was associated with Boston Pizza and they had a food court walking distance away. The kitchennette in one of the rooms was nice. We liked the pool and hot tub area, however, if was very busy and the water was murky. One of the saunas was out of order. We had two rooms and they placed us on different floors. Many times over the two days we were there, there was no one at the desk to ask for service. The hotel room doors did not close properly and you had to force them to close. The hotel was run down but relatively clean. The keys would often not work, but luckily we had two of them per room. There was no house cleaning during the two days we stayed there. The alarm clock did not work and there was a phone missing in one of the rooms. We had to ask for batteries for the TV remote. The toilet seat would not stay up. The shower was not working properly in one of the rooms. There was no security as they left the doors open basically all the time. The hotel would have gotten a higher rating as the price was reasonable, but on the first night, my wife got a bite on her stomach. We switched beds for the second night. When we got home after the second night, our daugther in the second room came home with many bites on her legs. We brought home the bugs and have been fighting them for over two months. We did inform the hotel and they said they checked the rooms and found no bugs.

Solid 3-3.5 star hotel, nothing particularly outstanding about it except the staff, they were polite and efficient at check in/check out. The beds are not comfortable. At all. The location was good, a short drive from old quebec and a short walk to a little mall with food options if needed, but the cleanliness of the rooms and common areas was questionable - sheets and pillows okay, but the walls (of all things?) were really dirty and the beautiful atrium left a lot to be desired with a fair amount of dirt in each of the hot tubs and pool that we didnt see until after-hours when the jets were turned off and the water settled. It didn't bother some people, hence the solid 3-3.5 stars, but it was enough for my partner and I to notice and not use the pool area as planned. The Boston Pizza attached was convenient for a low effort meal, and the whirlpool tub in the room made up a bit for our not being interested in the hot tubs or pool. All things considered, we wouldn't return, but if you aren't particularly focused on cleanliness or just need a spot to spend the night for cheap, then you'll be okay.

I am quite disappointed in this hotel. My mother and I are on our annual mother daughter trip for her birthday and this hotel did not meet our expectations. Our room does not look like the hotel's website pictures at all. The first red flag was the appearance of a forced entry to our room at the door lock. The hallways have no ventilation and a very stale odor. The wallpaper is peeling at every seam, the floor appears to have water damage and the seams between each laminate plank are buckling. The beds are ok but the sheets are very thin. The curtains are faded and the paint is peeling on the window. The shower curtain had multiple holes in it. The outlets are intermittent. The bathroom is tiny with a deep tub but no wall handles for the elderly or anyone who needs help getting in and out. I went to the front desk and inquired about a handicap accessible room but was told that it was not an option. There is also an odor coming from the air-conditioning. The staff was nice, the location is a 5 minute walk to several restaurants. The lobby seems to be renovated so maybe there are better rooms but I'm not pleased with ours.

Very bad customer service, staff are very rude to children and adults. Room had broken lights and other things that do not function. I requested towels and pillows to be available in the room and I didn’t find them. Air conditioning doesn’t cool properly even when I lower the temperature. Carpet in the halls looks like bed bugs live around, very filthy especially in the stairs near the lobby. Furniture is very old, mattress moves around and easily falls off the bed. Bathroom super tiny has no place even to put a toothbrush. Pool booking is silly, you have to book half an hour and go back to ask if u can stay longer, who does that! Even other 3 star hotels in other provinces aren’t like this!! Unfortunately, we paid for two nights, and I am hoping they end pretty fast without having to deal with their staff who are not friendly at all and lack customer service skills. I will update at the end of my stay with more photos. Update: - sink doesn’t drain and gets halfway full (check photo) -tub is the same with the drainage issue - called them to fix the light, someone came and checked it and promised to be back to fix but nothing happened. - total rip off for the amount of money I paid

Stayed here last month. When we arrived, our room absolutely REEKED of cigarettes. They put in an ozone machine the next day for us, which admittedly got rid of the smell, but this really should have been done before we got there because the first night made us both nauseous. If you have a family, maybe this could be fun, but we were hoping for a couples’ experience and were very disappointed by the crowding and lack of soundproofing (our room overlooked the pool area). Between the children and the birds all screeching - because yes, they have caged birds as decor - it was hard to get a good night’s sleep. The pool and “spa” area are very small and in disrepair. For instance, the hot tub had a random pipe floating in it that pushed out either freezing or boiling water, which was unpleasant and almost a little unsafe at times. Overall, for the price paid, we expected a cleaner and more upscale experience.

My family and i stayed at this hotel as my son had a hockey tournament in the area. The room smelled terrible and there appeared to be mold around the bathtub... it wasn't very clean and seemed old and run down. Our room had no faceclothes and when we went to the pool, we asked for pool towels and they had none left. On our third and final night, there was an event being hosted in the basement directly under our room and by 11pm, the glass on our night table was still shaking because the music was so loud. Several guests complained and despite multiple attempts to address the situation, the music didn't stop. I asked for a different room and was told that they were all rented out. Interestingly after my fourth or fifth time at the front desk to complain, a room became available...

The only thing that was good abou the hotel was the pool. Other than this, it was scary as we were given one room in the basement/ downstairs and was very dark. The rooms were very untidy, no proper lighting, very small and unorganized washrooms. I had a stay for 3 nights and requested the staff to move us upstairs as I had kids but the staff did not give me any room. No one cleaned the room for 3 days. My car was bumped by someone else in the parking and I requested staff for the video but they mentioned that there isnt any camera. There is no breakfast. Not at all recommended

There’s black mold and the bottoms of the walls in the rooms and the bedrooms have a strong smell of chlorine and you have no windows to get fresh air .The swimming pool and children’s play area not well maintained, they have full of green algae on the walls and floors and it’s smells like sulphur or unclean , when we complained to the staff and asked to leave after being there for 1 hour ,they did absolutely nothing to try fix the situation or let us check out of this hotel without having to be stuck to pay for this horrible room , if I would have know about the mold in this place , I would never have come there and especially not with my children. There’s small round metal caps near the pool area and I watched a child slip and fall down after walking on the wet metal cap in the last pic

Terrible terrible hotel, definitely among the worst I’ve ever been in! I regret I didn’t check Google review before I booked it. Was travelling with my family. We had 4 rooms. The one facing swimming pool is extremely noisy. Although swimming pool is supposed to close at 10pm, I was awaken by people partying in it at 2 am. The pool is very small, don’t get tricked by pictures online. Rooms are old. Beds will shake when people walking outside in corridor. Key cards need constant renewal, they just cease working with no reason. And the only elevator was not working, you have to go up the stairs with all your stuff. No cleaning service during my 5 days stay. So.. worst hotel experience ever!

Rooms are dated. We had a stream of ice cold air entering the room from underneath the AC unit. Hallway has covering falling off. Needs TLC. The staff were good. No complimentary breakfast. Doors are not well insulated so we heard kids running down the hall late at night and early the next morning. No remote for the television in the room. Bathroom door didn't close. Nowhere was there mention of a bar / club on the premise that plays loud music into the night. We could not get to sleep due to loud drums for the last two nights.

It is quite a nice place, you can still see grass and trees outside which is different to other hotels here. It is a strange place in the way that you can hear birds inside, due to the bird cages full of them. It has an open plan so the smell of chlorine from the pool is quite potent upstairs, especially when you leave your room. The pool also isn't that big and is not in a private room. The beds are a bit hard and the fridge sometimes makes a lot of noise (you can unplug it) and there wasn't much of a range of food/drink to choose from at breakfast. But it's not bad

The condition of the hotel was awful, the air conditioner was not working and making these terribly loud noises in the middle of the night; could not sleep at all. The bathroom was very small, while the lights would flash. The bed was not comfortable, and the fridge was not functioning. You have to call for house keeping, and keep in mind even after you call, the staff are very busy so your room might not get cleaned. The room size was decent and the front desk speaks fluent English. The location of the hotel was good and there is a plaza close by. Nevertheless, it was a bad stay and I will not be coming back.

I went there with my family. It was a great experience! The hotel room was very nice, clean, spacious! The balcony was facing the pools; which was a great view! They have a spa experience which contains a hot tub, a cold pool, and a warm pool. There are saunas as well. The price was affordable. At the checkout, there was a mistake it the billing which was adressed and they quickly took care of the issue. Overall, great experience and I certainly will return in the future.

This hotel is awful. False advertising. Pictures are only great online, but it was photoshopped as the room was ugly. The lobby looked promising, but once you go upstairs, it is totally different. Seedy and dark hallway; outdated room, gloomy, bed was bad and uncomfortable, curtains were falling apart, no space. Wallpaper is peeling off. It's not worth the money. We left and didn't stay the night. Best Western or Holiday Inn is a better place for almost the same price. They gave our deposit back but did not do a refund. I would rate a 0 if it was an option.

The rooms are a little weird, you can hear everything that happens in the hallway so it can be very loud. Our tv never worked and if it did you couldn’t change the channel. The Service at the hotel was awful, we tried to get our room clean every day we were there but they would never clean it, and the people at the front desk were rude to us for no reason. The Location was good, just a 10 minute drive to old Quebec City which was nice. The pool was amazing there the only highlight of the whole hotel.

Very nice hotel. Very clean, lots of parking space, rooms are pretty basic but still nice and big. If you want room cleaning tho you need to ask the night before because the lady at the front desk won’t want to help you with that unless you ask for it the night before. A bit rude but the rest of the staff is very nice and helpful. Also really nice spa area, clean too and sooooo relaxing, the birds really add to the tropical ambiance they got there. The restaurant is also pretty good, the staff there too is really nice and prices for bottles are pretty affordable

Room manager - Evelyne, was arguing with me about the company discount and was very rude. She was saying it does not make sense to give you discount if you are coming with your family not for work, which is not true. We were told and were using hotels with company rate for personal trips, but she didnt even check and said it does not make sense to her. Very interesting service especially from a manager.

We paid way too much for this room, The room seems to date from the 80s and all the fixtures in it as well, the shower head barely worked, the soaker tub was missing parts and the AC unit through the wall let so much cold air into the room that heating barely kept the temperature at 20C. With the high price for the room there is no breakfast included either. The service was friendly but limited to the check-in.

For the price paid, it was a disappointing experience. AC was very loud and not even cooling the room. When we complained to the administration, they expressed inability to get it repaired or even give another room. Fridge was not plugged in. We plugged it and it did not cool by morning. Why have it in the room then? Bathroom exhaust was louder than the biggest decibel one you probably have in your kitchen. Only saving grace was their staff gave extra soap as soap dispenser near wash basin was not working.

  • Carobt Artist

I overprepared according to the bad reviews that I read beforehand. There was a soap and the door key was functional. I didn't hear the birds from the pool, which opened at 9 am and not overcrowded (a weekday). They have a sauna and spa. The staff was competent and the check in quick, the room was nothing over the top but it worked. I turned on the heater and it warmed up quickly. The shower-bath wasn't premium but had plenty of hot water.

Loud airco, the smell of chlorine from the pool area is everywhere at the ground level. No housekeeping for no apparent reason. Rooms are ugly with wallpaper peeling off and dirty curtains. Breakfast is available in the pizza restaurant. Location is too far from the city centre if you are visiting Quebec. Plan on a 15 minute car or bus drive. We didn't feel comfortable here.

We were happy with the room until the very loud music started on Saturday night. They told us we could change rooms but we were already in bed at 10:30, with our luggage all unpacked. Apparently the loud music lasts until 3:00 AM, and if you’re on the end of the hotel near Boston Pizza it’s really loud. Why do they even put people in these rooms?!?! Maybe drunk people can stand it, but we can’t.

The room was very clean and spacious. The hotel itself was also very clean. We always saw someone in the foyer mopping and dusting. The atrium with the pool and sauna was busy at times, but once it cleared out and you are able to relax, it was enjoyable. We spent a lot of time in the pool and sauna. We enjoyed watching the birds in the atrium as well. The fitness room was very basic but everything was in working order. Would definitely return.

  • Oscar Gonzalez Alonso

The hotel is okay for the price. I didn't know that they don't clean the rooms. When I was back at the hotel the second night I found out about that. When I called the reception somebody in a not very friendly tone told me they don't clean the rooms. I'm okay with that but I feel it's dishonest not to mention it while I was booking. The air conditioning is old and very noisy.

Location is not so bad, but services were very bad, assigned us a basement basement basement room and the room is separated from the main building, 5 minutes walking distance, and in between there is another different company building. It was impossible for us access the pool and other amenities in the main building. It totally mislead us.

Very clean and nice hotel! Only thing they can improve upon is tv channels. Not much for tourists to watch at all, and many channels are frozen and pixelated. The pool area is very beautiful and the rooms are nice and cozy. The staff is very rude. When we arrived to the place we instantly regretted it. Also, the tv channels are wack and halfway working. You can’t use your Netflix account by screen sharing or any other ways. No robes, no nothing. The heater didn’t work at all. At least there was a mini gym and a nice pool. They were the good thing about that hotel.

  • Dave C

The rooms were basic and slightly on the small side. The A/C unit was very loud and rattled all night. There were some hygiene issues with the room and the hotel overall. I would pass on this property unless you really need to stay in the area.
