I stayed here for two nights: 4th and 5th of July, 2017. This small 17 room hotel is well located in one of the two main squares, close to shopping and 5-10 minutes walk from the airport bus stop. I booked single use of a double room through Expedia at what I felt was an expensive €155 per night but noted that the rate posted in reception (see picture of notice) was €135. The receptionist commented that they frequently had similar issues with Expedia reservations but was very reluctant to correct my rate until I mentioned TripAdvisor! The room (202) was quite basic to the point of being spartan; but had a good sized wardrobe with two shelves and adequate hanging space for a short stay (see pictures). It does have a nice view if the square and cathedral spires. The bathroom also was adequate but the shower head kept falling to the bottom of the slider bar and an attempted repair was unsuccessful. The towels were acceptable quality for a 3 star hotel but the bath towels barely fitted round my 38" waist. The only electrical sockets I could find were awkwardly placed under the desk (see picture). In my opinion the breakfast also is quite basic (see picture) with no toast available and coffee (cafe au lait) served lukewarm probably made with cold milk. There are no safes in the rooms and the hotel safe is not located in the reception area which is not the most secure or convenient arrangement. The rooms in this hotel are not air conditioned so it is essential to keep at least one window open in the summer. However this exposes you to the noise from the square and in particular the restaurants on either side of the hotel entrance, as well as the incessant church bells. On my first night I came in late and fell asleep but on my second night I was kept awake by a loud conversation from guests (or may have been off duty staff) in the Hotel's own restaurant well after the official licencing closing time of 1.00am. I resolved to go down and remonstrate with the staff but found the front door locked. According to the Fire Instructions posted in the room, this is the fire escape route. An alternative means of escape may have been via the restaurant to the open outside restaurant door; but the internal door also was locked. The noisy guests did not leave until 1.45am but I did not get to sleep until around 3.30am worrying about the locked fire door. I booked an alarm call for 6.30am but wisely took the precaution of setting the alarm on my phone. The hotel system rang me at 6.42am. I would have rated this hotel 3 star as I do not feel it is good value for money. Anywhere else in Europe it would much cheaper. However I have only awarded 1 star to draw attention to the fire safety issue. If you chose to stay here take earplugs and make sure the front door isn't locked after hours.

A charming and small hotel sited in a wonderful location on Place Guillaume II...I only wished I had planned to visit when the square was not being dug up for a refurbishment, for I recall it fondly. Hotel Vauban is within easy walking distance of all the important places for visitors: Le Chemin de la Corniche, Casemates de la Pétrusse, History Museum of the City of Luxembourg, Casemates du Bock, Place d'Armes, Place de la Constitution, Cathedrale Notre-Dame Luxembourg, and Hamilius for catching the tram. For those like me who really enjoy walking, the hotel's location makes it easy to walk across Pont Adolphe to the Gare Quarter or set off to explore the Ville Basse (Low City) in the gorge that cuts across the city where lie Pafendall, Clausen, and Gronn (Pfaffenthal, Clausen, Grund). Loved my room's view onto Place Guillaume II and of Cathedrale Notre-Dame. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Great WiFi and a great bathroom shower made my stay wonderful. Breakfast was a simple affair of yogurt, croissant, and bread along with pear juice (how did they know it is the only juice I like?), and coffee. There was ham and cheese, too, but those just aren't items I want in the morning though I know many other people will be quite happy with them. One challenge was thin walls. I assume that is the case rather than the alternative: that the hotel somehow manages to attract loud guests. I did have trouble sleeping and the current construction on Place Guillaume II added to that. However, I believe Hotel Vauban is a great lodging choice for this wonderful city with its singular and stunning topography.

We couldn't have asked for a better location - right next to Guillaume ll Square. The hotel and the staff were amazing. So welcoming and friendly and very helpful. Breakfasts are very good and the hotel has a restaurant that serves lunches and evening meals. I can't recommend Hotel Vauban enough. We had a lovely stay there for 5 days.

Rooms were comfortable and more than adequate. Water was provided every day. Bathroom facilities were very good.
Activités à proximité
Lovely shopping streets and many cafes and eateries very nearby. Very close to the Notre Dame cathedral and the Grund area which is lovely. We walked down to the Grund and caught the bus back as it would have been a long climb up the steps or the steep roads, but don't miss out by not going. Take a train from the Central station to Trier in an interesting and historic roman town.
Accessibilité piétonne
Easy access to local buses and all transport is free, including trips to and from the airport.
Plats et boissons
Breakfast is included and is a good continental meal with plenty to satisfy. The restaurant has an excellent reputation great food and wonderful service and is always very busy - so booking would be a good idea, although people ofter drop in when visiting the square and are usually accommodated.

1. Very very small lobby. 2. Rating is not reflecting how the hotel it is 3. No Airconditions which can be an extreme suffer if you travel on July or August. It gets super hot and you can't live without an Aircondition. 4. When we checked in and get into our room we found luggages of the other guests in front of us. We found out that the room was given to other guests and the reception don’t know!! When we informed the receptionist about that she simply said: "Ooh sorry, I didn’t know that the room was given to other guests !!!!" She gave us another room which was literally a 'disaster'. The room was too tiny, which was impossible to be a family room as we booked. When we got back again to the receptionist and told her to have a room as we requested she said that I only can offer you an apartment in the 4th floor, which was a real joke since that apartment is considered a studio in another hotel. The other joke is that the elevator can reach only up to the 3rd floor, after that we have to get out of the elevator and take the stairs to the 4th floor. It was a 1 night stay and it was a real nightmare. Sleeping at your car instead of this hotel would be a much better choice for you. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

  • Dan Kruse

Friendly staff, great service. Limited but good breakfast. Room was very small and backed to an alley. Pretty expensive for what I got. Location was fantastic. Elevator starts in between reception and 1, and stops between every floor. Not super helpful if you can’t take stairs or have a lot of luggage. Shower was hot and powerful but space was tight and they installed the control valve right in the middle of the wall so every time I moved I hit the handle and shut water off or moved it to full hot or cold. This tight room had no airflow. They left a fan in the closet, which helped, but I imagine on hot days/nights this room is very uncomfortable. Lastly, the twin mattress was worn on the side away from wall, so it felt like you were sleeping on a slight slope. If I were to stay here again I’d ask for a room away from the alley and a better fan. Would likely shy away from here in summer months.

I've enjoyed my stay very much. Was greeted by a very friendly and helpful staff, there is a working lift in case you are carrying a lot of luggage and the location is perfect. Plus: 1. Location 2. Friendly staff 3. Working lift 4. A big bed that made us feel we slept on a cloud ;) 5. Good WiFi 6. Sockets near the bed A small negative would be a lack of electric socket near the desk. Seems like a small oversight, but thankfully most laptop chargers can reach the desk if you plug them in the bathroom.

A stay at Hotel Vauban will offer you many opportunities from the convenience of your own room. For example, without leaving the comfort of your bed, you will be able to hear every last shred of noise coming up from the town square below (no need to even open the windows!). Enjoy the melodious clanks of the Saturday market being set up from 5AM, and as a Sunday treat, rise unintentionally at 7AM to three different sets of church bells! Also, if you leave your bags at the hotel after check out, there is the added convenience of having them left unattended in the hallway upon your return so that they can be picked up more easily.

  • Szn Le

The hotel Vauban is very nicely located. The rooms are clean . The staff is very friendly. The breakfast is quite average but still good ✅ However, my experience was quite altered by the fact that the hotel was very noisy ( someone banging on the door from 1:00 A.M until 2.30 A.M , no one at the reception!! ) ❌ Also there are some things that puzzled me : I pointed out at the reception that our toilets had no toilet paper left and the receptionist , though very agreeable, went to hand me a toilet paper roll. I would have expected a cleaning lady to just bring it in my room, not a receptionist in the middle of the hallway

  • Yana Brown

The hotel is very centrally located with a bunch of restaurants around and we were able to walk everywhere. The information center is right across from it - it was very helpful to get maps from there! The room was comfortable and we had a fan. If you want to keep your windows open, it is a little noisy from the street. The room size was ok but it was enough for us and we were able to fit a baby bed there. Breakfast is not buffet style but rather served so you are a bit limited but it was delicious and there are multiple cafes around to get breakfast from.

I arrived at 1am, and I'm sorry for the delay. I am a surgeon so I don't actually have access to my phone all the time. I rang the bell and a guy opened it and said the keys were at the reception. I went to room 204 and I was surprised with a used room, and I think someone was hidden behind the blinds. I went back to the entrance and talked again through the intercom. The same guy couldn't give me an alternative room or hotel, so I actually didn't sleep and stayed all night on the street.

Description of the hotel on Expedia tells you that there is a small construction work at the side of the hotel - a total lie ! The whole square opposite the hotel ( and my room ) was a construction site. The work truck rolled in at 630 am ( !!!) and started working. The noise from the trucks and flashing lights have kept me awake since 630 am. Please don't stay here if you want decent sleep.

The room was okay. Small but okay. It didn't feel extremely clean but I didn't see a problem. Don't expect tea coffee or mini bar in the room. The thing that got me frustrated was the breakfast. They said "we offer full continental breakfast" and this is just lying. How in anyway a cold boiled egg, a packaged cheese, butter and jam, and activia yoghurt is a "full continental breakfast"?

A boutique hotel overlooking Hotel de ville and the Notre dame. We have a family apartment which has a kitchenette and a separate lounge to the bedroom..The sofa turns into a bed. There is a lift so we didn't have to haul our luggage up 2 flights. Toiletries, towels etc provided. A nespresso machine was a lovely surprise. A big fridge was also handy. lovely location to centre ville! Very clean rooms and very spacious!

It is a tree star hotel what should be taken in consideration before rating. It is located in the center of city centre. Breakfast is kind of boring one, under the expectations (two kinds of ham, boiled egg and corn flakes + croassians), staff is professional and helpful, and noise isolation is very good with closed windows. I don't understand why there is no any TV program on English.

  • Nichelle S

Hotel is located right on the square. In the summertime (when we visited), they have live music that go on until after 10PM. And then you get the late diners who hang out and make A LOT of noise. No air conditioning so you have to keep the windows open. So if you're a light sleeper, this is not the place for you.

Location is very central if your are visiting the JFK avenue max 20 Euro on taxi reaching there, down town is just few minutes walk. 2 very nice parks are also in walking distance. Hotel rooms are not that great as you see at booking websites, were bit small and no AC though you can get a fan some where hidden in room. Staff is 5 star, extremely helpful and friendly.

The hotel is ‘ok’. Not special, rooms are clean and the beds are not that soft. It is located on a busy square, in the middle of Luxembourg. Breakfast is also, ok, nothing special. There is no possibility to make your own tea or coffee at the room, no mini fridge or hair dryer. So it is quite basic.

  • Philip Nichols

The room is very nice, the staff is helpful, the location is Central, and the view is spectacular. The only problem is that the Town square in front of the hotel has been turned into a giant construction zone. Hopefully, this will pass, but it might be worth looking into before making a reservation.

We stayed in Apartment 4 which is the building to the right of the main door on the top floor. Great views and quiet apartment. Separate double bedroom and lounge with double sofa bed. Very smart clean and comfortable and a good price. Small kitchen and bathroom with all you need.

Great location. Hotel allowed early check-in that was nice. Rooms are small but clean and comfortable. Parking is either expensive in the city garage or a hassle to find on street. Market in the square on Saturday was good for fresh food and flowers. Lots of restaurants nearby.

  • Matthias Grabner

Clean, forthcoming staff, perfect location - small rooms, and since it’s an old town building elevator does not go from The ground floor up you would need stairs. Maybe not ideal for families, if you have a lot of luggage or are disabled. But ideal for business trips!

Tivemos uma estadia curta em três pessoas. Ficamos no apartamento. Muito confortável, limpo e aconchegante. Café da manhã muito agradável. Ótima localização. funcionários educados e prestativos. Infelizmente o wi-fi do quarto não funcionou por quase toda a estadia.

The rooms are very small, the bed takes up nearly all the space. The staff is nice, but stretched very thin. Tiny reception area and the receptionist also helps out in the restaurant. The location is great, but sometimes very noisy. Ask for room on 4th floor
