Look out for 10% charge on weekends- I didn’t notice the signs, and I often don’t pay attention to what day of the week it is, what a bore. Gst is included) Seems like the tarts have shrunk in size and grown in price! $6.50 was the ticket price- but I paid $7.15! Tiny! My local French artisan bakery sells slightly larger ones for $2.70. This stop is always a treat… but I don’t think I’ll be able to justify the price in future, … is the produce 100% organic?? I first started to come here because they stopped delivering their fantastic Portuguese tarts to Giant Steps down the road... the cessation of this arrangement has not worked out for me... as I often pass through later at night ... Habitat closes at 4... So I've been missing all the things. (Another day) Came here today (public holiday) for croissant's, canelles, Portuguese tarts Armond croissant's… Which I love all of… And all of these were sold out by 12 pm!… Get here early and still can't win.

Solid coffee, delicious pastries. A more 'urban' and modern offering in Healesville which is always welcome. Regarding some of the criticisms re: takeaway cups and quality service, we thought the staff did their best given a busy sunday morning and it is quite common practice to be using takeaway containers currently during the Covid era, we were just glad that they were compostable. Same goes with the non-plastic straw offered. We did wait approx. 15 mins for our coffee orders which were on the longer side but it was quite a busy morning and we didn't mind grabbing a seat and enjoying our pastries in the meantime.

They don’t even deserve 2 stars but the shop looks great. The coffee was absolutely awful. Barista was super slow and customer service was terrible. I ordered my coffee and breakfast. She served my breakfast without cutlery and they forgot my coffee. After I finished my breakfast, I went to the counter and I said i wanted to get my ordered coffee. The man who made the coffee interrupted me and said to the cashier to deliver the orders first and made me wait for another 5 minutes. Then she made me this awful coffee. The shop wasnt busy at all.

States there are gluten free options on their menu, but when trying to order GF food for my coeliac partner...was told they didn't have anything and no other options offered. Do yourself a favour and go to Mocha And Lime or Cherry Tree instead. ...by your rationale, he would never set foot in most cafes who can and do offer gluten and gluten free options. And we definitely didn't sit amongst bags of flour. Obviously the sarcasm is for free, excellent thanks for that. So consider taking GF off your menu then if you aren't offering it.

Had several coffees here of very good standard however, after checking their website & seeing take out coffee on offer from 7am, I stopped at 7:22am and asked for a coffee only to be told I would have to wait 8 minutes before they started making coffee and when I replied I couldn't wait because I had to be at work by 7:30, he shrugged. So I probably will try Degani across the road or Healesville Bakery where customer is more accommodating but lesser quality coffee. Very sad day indeed.

New coffee artisan bakery in Healesville. Coffee is a good blend and the pastries are great. Coffee reasonable price and price of pastry is about right for the quality. One size for coffee is $4.20 whilst pastries start at $5 for a croissant. Overall a good place to meet. 20 seats inside with around 30 outside. Great sun in the morning and afternoon but you will need to park your car in the side streets as there is limited parking in front. Try Badger Creek Road for parking.

Was excited by the look of this cafe when it opened and wanted to try the food for ages. Finally got a chance to stop in for lunch and could not have been more disappointed with the experience. Menu was unoriginal and very basic, but seemed like the produce and ingredients would be of high quality. When the food came the it was even more of a let down, tasteless and bland. For a place with so few menu options and such expensive prices I was expecting something much better.

  • Joel Ferguson

came to this cafe expecting a bowl of chips and a nice vanilla milkshake. To then find they don’t have milkshakes being a cafe I was mortified! And not even a bowl of hot chips was quite disappointing. We got served the wrong coffee and took a while to come and there were no muffins left at 2 in the arvo was another down to add to the list. Overall wouldn’t recommend coming back and hope they can lift their game for the benefit of other customers satisfaction

Where to begin?! - couldn't heat up a cabinet item. - only serve white bread (no other options available), except you can buy a multigrain loaf at their and they can chop it for you. - although tomatoes on the menu and on other dishes, could not include in a dish that did not otherwise have tomatoes on it. Further, can omit items from a dish, but cannot add them. Good work Habituel - you really know how to put your customers first.

I ordered avocado and beetroot hummus on sourdough. The bread was soft and spongy inside with crisp and flaky crust. The beetroot hummus didn't have the dirt taste like beetroot tends too have but had a sweet and fresh taste. All the flavours worked really well together. The only thing that could make this better is to reduce the amount of hummus and add a poached egg but that reflects more of my obsession with eggs for breakfast.

Just popped in to buy coffee beans which was on a shelf in the "outgoing lane " of their traffic directions in the shop. I can only assume that the woman serving behind the counter was sick to death of asking people to follow directions because when I picked up my beans she very rudely told me to go around the other side. Don't tar everyone with the same brush and use a little courtesy and manners. It's called customer service.

  • Maria

This place looks like the place to go for coffee, perfect seating & ambience outside in the sun - unfortunately my coffee went in the bin, I ordered an almond cap which tasted like a warm cup of almond milk - no coffee taste, no froth, no chocolate dusting, no sugar, my husbands sk cap was the same.. The guy next to us waited 20 mins for his coffee & the lady next to him received the wrong coffees.. Very disappointed!

Like a previous recent review, the Rueben sandwich was no better than a ham and cheese variant. For $16 there was very little meat (2 thin slices), one thin slice of cheese and the pickles were heaped to one side separately in the box. I too was surprised with the takeaway packaging but that was not a game-changer. The bread was very nice but very small. The picture of the previous reviewer looked better than mine.

I live locally and have for the past 3 years - during which I have seen the service decline significantly. A dozen or so visits over the past few months have confirmed this is still the case (I wanted to be certain). The products on offer are good, but my recommendation is head to one of the other coffee shops / bakeries that have just as good a product but unlike this place, will make you feel welcome and valued.

  • Claire Moreton

Best ham and cheese croissant I’ve ever encountered. Popped into Habituel as a “one-time visit” while spending a weekend in Healesville (thinking I’d try a different coffee place the next day) and ended up going right back the day after to experience the croissant again. Staff were really lovely and welcoming. Coffee certainly on par with good Melbourne standards - will definitely be back ☕️

  • Kathy Greensill

OMG we all agreed the best ever Blueberry Muffins we have eaten, EVER. Crunchy on the top, but so moist and filled with blueberries inside. Coffee was lovely. The veg foccacia was to die for. This cosy, friendly cafe will become a regular now. Cant wait to try the crossaints next. The waitress was kind enough to take a photo of us (4 generations) enjoying an outing in the sunshine whilst it lasted.

  • Johnny Le

Coffee, ham and cheese croissant and blueberry danish was beautiful. I thought the price and quality was fair, however portion seems small (or perhaps shrunk). We decided to order a Reuben steak sandwich which was $16 and instantly regretted it. The sandwich was not worth the price point and I would not recommend ordering it. Save your buck and double up on the ham and cheese or danishes !!

  • Natahl Thomason

I want to give it 5 stars because I’ve loved going there, but we were just told today they’ve decided to stop offering decaf coffee. I can’t wholeheartedly recommend a place I can’t even go to anymore, lol! If you don’t need decaf, the coffee is great and the service friendly. Limited menu, but everything is fresh and great quality. Really sad I’m going to have to stop going

  • Jacqui O

By far the best coffee in Healesville, maybe even the yarra valley. Their pastries are worth getting up early for. I can’t wait to be out of lockdown to get there again. I hope their opening hours are extended to 7 days after lockdown too as last time i missed them when they closed for an entire school holidays. I know the lines can be long but its definitely worth the wait!

  • Brooke Smith

This cafe is asking all patrons to be double vaxxed just to enter for takeaway! A clear breach of government guidelines and contributing to the mass segregation of society. They even had a sign up saying they are increasing prices and surcharges due to covid, yet they are not letting people in for takeaway... maybe if you didn’t discriminate you’d make more money.

  • Arie van Amrooij

So, food wise this place is good, great quality bread, but if you leave a place like this to be managed by an unfriendly woman on. Saturday, who forbids the friendly staff to sell croissants that are meant for the next day ? Let’s piss off the customer of today to potentially make one happy for tomorrow ? Such a shame, will hence not return and we do visit a lot.

  • IGuideU

On a busy, Sunny Saturday, I had the opportunity to pop in - bit of a queue to order, maybe 15 mins, then another 15 minute wait for coffee. Still, the coffee was fantastic once it arrived, as was the breakfast muffin (very filling). I enjoyed the location and ambience. The breads looked sensational. Maybe go outside of peak times - definitely worth the visit.

  • Gemmon Hiberts

Don't go here if you are hungry or thirsty. The menu has about 4 things on it and they have tried to be all fancy but the menu just doesn't work. They also don't have chicken. I just wanted a sandwich. It shouldn't be this hard to order lunch. I ended up with 2 pieces of bread and some salad ingredients for $13.50. Oh they also don't sell bottles of water lol

  • Andrew Chau

Great bread. Habituel bakes some darn good bread and pastries! The pastries are flaky with many laminations. The danishes have fresh fruit and a nice baked in custard, and wash it down with their store roasted coffee. The toasties are good, with a decent amount of cheese and filling. I'd say the truffle one needs a little bit more truffle oil.

  • Andy McLeod

What attracted us was the outside seating arrangements on a great sunny winter afternoon. No oat milk for hot drinks so we ordered them with almond milk (which we enjoy as well). The hot chocolate was far from satisfactory and the chai latte was nothing more than hot almond milk with barely any hint of it being a chai latte. Service was great.

  • Shardey Olynyk

Pro’s - Great outdoor ambiance. Sitting outside in the sun is beautiful on an Autumn day Con’s - We paid $53 for one coffee, one slice of Avo toast, smaller than average ham and cheese croissant and mushroom toastie on a Sunday. The flavour wasn’t there. Food was really below average. I would come again to sit outside for coffee but not food.

  • Anna A

Certainly puts a dampener on the morning when you end up having to cancel the takeaway coffees because it took too long. Appreciate that it might be a busy period, but when everyone who ordered after has been served first, you begin to wonder why bother, especially when there are other options available close by.

  • Stephanie Rose

A small cafe serving up some of the towns best coffee and baked goods. Quickly stopped by for a coffee and a white choc raspberry muffin before we went out for lunch. Both were very good, the muffin was fresh and moist. They do also have a small menu which is served takeaway. Tables available outside. ⭐️ 5/5

  • SK SK

Good decor that borrows hevilt from hipster Melbourne. The thing is, the coffee is nothing special and indeed quite watery. The hot chocolate is actually bad. A bakery over the road near the supermarket does better coffee. A good selection of papers and magazines saves Habituel from 2 stars.

  • Brett Kinross

Probably the best bakery I’ve encountered. Awesome raspberry and white chocolate muffins that are very moist and delicious. Their sourdough seeded loaf is wonderful as well as their fruit danishes and apple tart. The service was very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended.

  • Benjamin Molesworth

Great location, friendly service, beautiful outdoor courtyard in the back to relax, with very modern clean bathrooms available. Oh, they have food too! Wonderful tasting high quality bakery products, and hot drinks, including a Real Chai latte from a pre ground 7 spice. …

  • Herbert Fifteen

A sleek, modern, and very popular cafe. Service can be slow when it's busy, but the food and coffee are worth the wait. Best ham and cheese croissant I've had in quite a while (although I've heard you have to get here early, as they often sell out). The coffee was excellent.

  • Samantha Gardner

They make a nice coffee but I felt a little out of place or unwanted when it came to the service from the staff, they seemed bored and unfriendly. I would return again to try their bread but if the service doesn't improve I wouldn't come back to a place that is so pricey.

  • Mike von Strokirch

Nice little spot in Healesville. Atmosphere was super nice with lots of light and the delicious looking bread behind the counter. I didn't eat but my colleagues liked their meals. I didn't give 5 stars because it was a bit expensive and the coffee could have been better.

  • Daniel

Great coffee properly made, beans roasted on site upstairs. Great bakery goods, great seating atmosphere with lots of space. Highly recommended, the place to got in Healesville, much better than the much busier and lesser quality beechworth bakery down the road.

  • Susan Callen

Habitual used to be wonderful but now is using coronavirus as an excuse to use paper cups and takeaway boxes and close at random when it wants. Very disappointing and not environmentally good. Wash a cup for Gods sake. Other coffee shops are managing it.

  • Bianca B

Friendly staff, wonderful fresh croissants and nice outdoor seating area in the sun. Perfect spot for a nibble. Small selection of savoury and sweet pastries and breads to go with their coffees. But everytime I am just taken by the croissants. ❤️ …

  • Sarah-Jane Fawcett

Amazing coffee and hot chocolate (they use Mork, which is smooth and rich without being too sweet). The Reuben sandwich was perfect, and I loved the homemade pickled onion on the side. It was trendy but laid back, and the staff were fantastic!

  • Grace

Alas, one of my favourite cafe I've been visiting since three years ago. This time revisit was not pleasant. Overpriced and very milky tastless coffee. Can't heat up their own produce too and serve aa cold. What happened to service too? …

  • Fun Kwok

Stopped at Habituel for a pit stop and recharge on the way through Healesville. It is in very modern building and you are welcomed by the beautiful smell of freshly ground coffee once you step in. The staff are friendly and the service is

  • Parvez Ali

What a great little cafe! Not a variety of choice but they have perfected the menu items. The muffins are crispy on the outside and moist and fluffy on the inside, delicious. If not for anything else stop by for freshly roasted coffee.

  • Ricardo Perez

Definitely worth the trip to get some sourdough. A must go every time I am around the region. Menu is varied and there is something for everyone. Coffee takes a very long time to be served so not the place to go if you are in a rush.

  • Nep “Nippee Ki Ye” Thach

Always visited Beechworth for a stopover but since then Habituel is now a better alternative for coffee and almond croissant. I love their croissant early in the morning, fresh out of the oven. Fluffy, crispy and tastes great.

  • Nova Caine

Such an amazing little cafe filled with friendly staff, the best coffee(one of my favourite places to get a chai latte) and the most delicious bread you will ever eat. I thoroughly recommend the Turkish bread in particular.

  • Jesse

I was waiting in a short line, along with many others for much too long. The staff were too chatty with the customers at the desk leaving me and everyone else in frustration. This is the second time I have experienced this.

  • Peter Spaz

If you love strong bitter coffee and excellent sourdough bread in this area stop right here ! This is the place with fast efficient friendly service. Great coffee after spending a few hours at the brewery the night before.

  • Jacqueline Mathrick

Went here 9 months ago, coffee was boiling hot, and horrible. Thought we would give it another go, today it was that cold we threw it out. Won't visit again, they charge a premium and have no idea how to make a coffee

  • Nicholas Yeo

Excellent pastries. The ham and cheese croissant could use a lot more cheese but the pastry itself was good. The coffee was alright, not the best. Probably the best looking cafe in healesville with great seating.

  • sue vile

Fantastic coffee, sweet treats and sourdough bread. Definitely the best cafe in Healesville! All the staff are friendly and considerate. Lots of outdoor tables...and some undercover in the event of a shower.

  • Kim-Anh Lê Cao

Great place for breakfast or brunch. The brunch plates looked amazing. I was very please with my croissant. The bread looks like the picture. The small minus is that the staff could be a tad bit friendlier.

  • Scott Puddy

Mediocre coffee at inflated prices. Over $12 for 2 small lattes! sold out of all cakes, croissants, muffins etc by 10:30am on a Sunday isn’t great planning. Best location for soaking up the sun in town.

  • Theo Kalkandis

Great coffee, excellent beans, and a really upmarket feel. They have a very good range of coffees available including drip. Also really good sourdough breads made to your liking. The crusts were superb.

  • F F

Cool cafe and probably the best coffee in the area, although the food menu is very limited. Great little shop on top selling kids stuff, love the children’s books selection, albeit a little overpriced.

  • Jay Shell

Wow! The best croissant I have had in the last three years. I've visited many too pastries in Melbourne including Lune. This place has crunchy soft buttery croissants. Also great chai and fit out.

  • Kamil Cholinski

Great coffee and pastries, and the interior is light and airy. The queues for coffee are often long and there's a 10-15 min wait on weekends - but it's well worth it. Love the escargots.

  • Rajat Bhalla

They have been popular but I guess that has made them arrogant. The staff was rude and unapologetic about deceptive menu. Paid a premium for sad looking danishes. Not coming here again.

  • rebecca Powell

Love love love... My new favorite coffee stop off. A simple and easy menu for those who don't like to be overwhelmed with a multitude of options. Fresh bread and welcoming staff! FAB!!

  • Zac

Top notch Melbourne-esque coffee. Bread is the best. No, really, it's the best. Try the Turkish loaf and grab a chunk off it as soon as you've left the shop. Best. Also, lovely staff.

  • Mitch Warburton

The quality of coffee blend and home baked bread is excellent. If you're looking for a brekkie stop in Healesville, you've found it. The outdoor seating is a really nice extra too.

  • Jade Pucheta

Waited half an hour for tea and coffee. All drinks came out separately. Soy latte was luke warm, green tea was bitter. We had finished our pastries before the drinks even came out.

  • Rhys Edwards

Best coffee you'll find in Healesville. Was on the weekend with a 15 minute wait and only one on the machine so would definitely suggest getting their early if its a long weekend!

  • Travis Kelly

Nice reuben, but it wasn't toasted... strange, but still good. Disappointed with their drinks though. No decaf, one beer and two wines available. Seems odd for a produce region...

  • Christine Hocking

We came to Healsville for Elton John on a 43 degree day. And came for coffee the next day. We had iced chai lattes and long blacks best coffee and service in Melbs thanks guys..

  • davo and storm

$5.30 for a small coffee and a little bit of milk. Bloody dreaming. For that price you would want the best coffee you've ever had. Wont be going back. Looks really nice inside!

  • Tara Stevenson

Pretty outrageous to include normal retail products in long weekend/public holiday surcharge price increases. Especially as it is unlikely that staff were paid more today.

  • chiliona

I drink soy, so I can be a bit fickly but I didn't think the coffee was that great. Bread on the other hand looks delicious and their little food treats are good.

  • eve dup

Best bread and pastries in the Yarra valley. Unfortunately open at 8 o'clock now, so mean that's it's impossible get a fresh loaf of bread before going to work ☹️

  • Small victory Everyday

Coffee was good and sandwich was very simple but tasty. We arrived almost the end of operation so did not have lots of choices but it was enough to fill the gap.

  • Fabio Curci

5/5 pastries! Great baker!!! 5/5 service. Friendly helpful and pleasant! 1/5 coffee. I'm really sorry but I couldn't finish it. It was awful. Please improve it!

  • Pascale Jacq

Expected more of a menu but they concentrate on AMAZING coffee and EXCEPTIONAL bread and pastries. Looks like alfresco pizza oven gets used later in the day too

  • Andrew Stuart

Great bread. Decent coffee and quite possibly the worst mannered staff I’ve ever encountered. Not sure if it’s a requirement to be a jerk to work there or not.

  • Neem Nyima

Smallest $14 lunch meal ever! Like an entree at an expensive restaurant. - I did mention it to your staff, she responded does it taste nice. Rip-off tortilla.

  • Rick Liston

What a combination of the best barista in the valley, Big Dave and the most bangin' toasted sandwiches I've ever had. There's nowhere better to start the day.

  • Cameron Yaw

Great location, great coffee. Bread was out of this world. The food was good even though selection is small. Friendly staff. Worth a visit. Dog friendly too!

  • Denis Mysenko

Made a random stop on our way to Melbourne and this place was a pleasant surprise - great bread, great sandwiches, tasty coffee. Everything top notch really

  • Zoe Lai-Ladomery

Great coffee! Love the caneles - one of the best I’ve had. Service was quick and friendly. Will definitely visit again to try out other pastries and bread.

  • Laura Fluyt

Very nice cafe in Haelesville. I always drank my coffee there. Not many options on the menu considering food but the quality of the food makes up for it.

  • Sam Neil

I've stopped by twice for a coffee and both times the coffee has tasted slightly burnt and quite harsh, even with honey added. However lovely atmosphere.

  • Courtney Walker

Omg The croissants. I would drive the 2 hours from home back there just for them! Also really lovely coffee. Would return every day if I was local!

  • Steve Chapman

Amazing fit out. Great breads and coffee. Very light menu. Could definitely benefit from some slightly different pastries and meals occasionally.

  • Heather Wilson

Freshly baked goods, great coffee. All in a lovely environment and friendly staff what more can be said. HIGHLY RECOMMEND also puppy friendly.

  • Vicki McKay

$23 for a plain toasted sandwich with barely any filling, coffee was cold and came approx 40 mins after the food (place wasn't busy) yeah nah

  • David Hill

Looks like the best option for great coffee and fresh pastries in Healesville. Expect a queue in the mornings on weekends. Dog friendly too.

  • Cat B

Very delicious pies and sandwiches. Indoor and outdoor seating. There was a line the whole time we were there; obviously a fave all round.

  • Margaret Tok

Great ambience. Perfect spot to sip that coffee, enjoy those baked goodies and watch the world go by. Friendly and super efficient staff.

  • Rob Goode

Most delicious, flakey pain au chocolate I've had and the coffee was very good too. Not the cheapest, but worth the extra dollar or two.

  • Steve D

Excellent coffee, sensational raspberry muffin, pleasant service. The kitchen closes at 1500 then it’s whatever’s on the shelf …

  • Alex Liu

Pastries were tasty, focaccia was unfortunately pretty bland - entirely plain inside. Would definitely not grab coffee here again…

  • Ali Karsaz

It took 20 mins for them to make a coffee, and they serve the foods and drinks in take away containers. Definitely not worth it!

  • Simon Matthee

Fantastic service, coffee and baked goods. The bakery is incredibly well styled and a welcome find for a quiet coffee and lunch.

  • Adriana Caldero

Good coffee, good quality croissants, service very efficient, but a feel that they are giving you orders rather than guidance.

  • Chris Frost

I had an excellent piccolo latte from here. Didn't have time to try the food. Coffee cart was outside and was credit card only

  • Ad Ross

Coffee is excellent. Not many food options for lunch only baguettes. Bread is obviously super fresh though. Staff are lovely.

  • wayne preston

Nice coffee but $5.30 for small latte and $21 for ham cheese tomato toastie. Really? Won't do that again. Way over the top.

  • Joshua Goodman

Great coffee, loved our cardamom pastry. This place is really high quality, and I just wish we had space for their bread.

  • lauzz

Great cosy cafe, lovely people wonderful customer service, they also make fresh bread daily providing a nice selection.

  • Jeff Higgs

Good setup for take away to work with COVID restrictions. Always good coffee, even if you can't dine in at present.

  • Alok Joshi

Must try the tomato and Comte croissant! The coffee is great too... Wonderful bakery smells when you walk in :)

  • Alan

Very well balanced, great body and rich tasting 3/4 latte. Very pleased and would visit again if in town.

  • Maricris Gulay

One of the best and tastiest coffees we've had, easily beats many of the cafes in Melbourne CBD
