It is opened from 10 to 16 through Monday to Saturday and it’s free. It is a small but beautiful construction on Centenar Square. On the 12th June 1923, The Prince of Wales laid the foundation stone. He said that the building would stand to "symbolise to generations to come that Birmingham stood for, during a period of great national crisis - work of every kind unflinchingly given, compassion to the sick and wounded, courage and resource in adversity, and, above all, self-sacrifice in the face of death." Opened in 1925, stands as a memorial to the men and women of Birmingham who gave their lives in the First World War, Second World War and in active service since 1945. 12,320 Birmingham citizens died and 35,000 were wounded in the First World War. Built of Portland Stone, and constructed almost entirely by Birmingham craftsmen, it was paid by public donations. Around the exterior on granite pedestals stand four larger than life bronze statues by local artist Albert Toft. They represent the Army, Navy, Air Force and Women's Services. Visitors enter the Hall of Memory through huge cast bronze doors. Inside the Hall, a sarcophagus-shaped dais of Siena marble sits in the centre of the marble floor. On top of the shrine rests a glass and bronze casket containing two books: the First World War and Second World War Roll of Honour.
Very sympathetic and peaceful in the hubbub of the city to have a proper building as a memorial. You can go on and sit for a while to contemplate on the sacrifice made by those who stood up to fear, or simply walk it around and read the stone inscriptions and sign the book.
Allegations by Abergavenny public to gwent police not true. I drive on roads, can you join a round about without stopping, I can now as gwent police have enforced this challenge upon me. I have medical conditions which need monitoring,
Finding it open is its biggest problem. But it's a remarkable place which records the men who lost their lives in the Great War. If we don't learn from history and their loss we are doomed to make the same mistakes.
Hall of Memory for great soldiers who fought for peace and better world. This place is at Centenary Square close to Birmingham Library. Nearest Tram station is Library just a minute walk from there.
It's a building right in the middle of the city centre, somrwhat out of place... But it's absolutely fitting for remembering the fallen. Serene and brings a tear to your eye at its unique placement.
It's all too easy, to forget the many lives that have been lost, so we can live in peace and freedom. This memorial is a perfect way to help remind us!
This building is the memorial for a the fallen soldier that died in World 1 & World 2. Beautiful carved marble all around inside this beautiful place
Nice and calm walk around this hall of memory. There are lots of construction going on around the place, soon there will be layout.
When it is open it is worth spending some quiet time inside and reflecting on the lives lost.
Gyönyörű a tér, tiszta a környék. Télen jégpálya is van meg kisvidámpark.
전쟁 추념관은 Civic War Memorial 을 추모하기 위해 만든러진 건축물로 도심 안에 있다는 것이 신기해 보입니다
