The shorter version: Stop reading this review and go train at this gym, you will love it! Now for the longer one: Hayabusa Academy is a great facility, with plenty of space and equipment in great condition. It is always spotlessly clean and tidy, making you wonder if they are priming it for a photo shoot - but it is the owners', Chris and Janet's, care that keeps it in such great condition (Chris's germophobia, a great trait in a gym owner, may be a contributing factor too). This alone would already be a good reason to consider training at Hayabusa, rarely will you see a gym looking this great; but it is the care and passion that Chris and Janet show, as well as the enthusiasm and knowledge of their instructors, that make this gym a truly amazing place to train. The awesome community of members at the gym constantly look out for each others safety and learning progression and make the workouts fun. The instructors and classes will accommodate anyone, from someone looking to get in shape, to the next UFC aspirant. You will find both quality Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and Muay Thai classes at the gym, as well as Janet's intense but fun workout classes. If I had to come up with any regrets concerning Hayabusa Academy, it's that I did not join sooner.

I have been involved in various MMA trainings for over 2 decades and spent time at varios schools teaching varios styles. New to the area, I was looking for a club that would have competent and passionate trainers and owners who have understand that martial arts club is not just a business - it is a business derived from passion for the fitness, health, self-knowledge, and improvment. Chris and Janet, the owners of Hayabusa Academy not only have the passion, they also have the know how to create and maintain positive, up-beat, and growth promoting environment necessary for learning and polishing any self-improvement acitivity. After few months, I am impessed with the organization, facility, cleaniliness and variety and level of expertise of Hayabusa Accademy instructors. This is by far, the best run and maintained club I have came accross. I strongly recommend it to a new or experienced BJJ, Muay Thai or MMA practicioner. Chris and Janet: great job and thank you for your work, dedication, and commitment - it trully shows. Keep going!

I drove to Kingston from Alabama to visit with my in-laws and I needed a place to train for a few days. I found the Hayabusa Academy online and decided to check them out. Janet welcomed me right in and asked a few questions about any experience that I had before she showed me around the gym and handed me a three day trial pass. Needless to say this gym is AMAZING! It is the ideal training space for MMA, BJJ, Muay Thai (all of which they teach at this location) and then some! The next day I met with Chris for training and I was again welcomed right into the group. I did not meet one person who thought they were there just to beat somebody up. Everyone was there to train and help one another. All in all, Hayabusa Academy is a world-class training center that can cater to every persons training needs with zero intimidation. I highly recommend this gym to anyone who has an interest in Mixed Martial Arts and wants to get the best training possible from a great staff and clientele.

I really can't describe the awesomeness of training there. I started a month ago, knew nothing about martial arts (literally nothing). I don't even watch or like ufc (weird right?). Being over 30 knowing nothing my first day was the most welcoming experience I've ever had anywhere!! No matter what question you have or how stupid you think it is, to them no question is a stupid one. If your always willing to learn, they're always, and I mean always ready to teach! From head instructor to seasoned student someone has always been willing to help. When you get hooked (trust me you will) you get a full appreciation of how dedicated the staff are to the students. Even if it means being there several hours early so the bosses (not an outside service) personally clean the facility. Believe it or not... Soon enough to they feel like family, the gym feels like home. Thank you Chris and Janet for such a great place to learn from great people

I'm always excited to try out new gyms whenever I'm in a new town for work or just visiting friends. The gym itself is in great condition, very clean, and very well laid out. More important though was the quality of instruction. It's the hallmark of a solid jiu jitsu practitioner when they can explain technique SIMPLY to their students. Great classes, Chris Wellstood! I also felt very welcomed coming in from another school of training (10th Planet). It was a couple classes filled fun, respectful, eager students. I hope you guys are opened this Christmas when I come back for the holidays! Post script: Hilarious that all the 1 and 2 star reviews here and on Facebook are from people out of country presumably thinking this is the fight equipment company. Post post script: 10P4L!!! Chemtrails!!! OPERATION NORTHWOODS!!! #layofftheweededdie

Extremely high level instructors, an incredibly welcoming team, a gorgeous, clean, facility, and classes which are well organized, yet still allow you to get a great workout. I've been doing BJJ with the team at Hayabusa Academy and cannot recommend the school enough to anyone. I was very nervous to start BJJ as I have had back problems throughout my life, I was so glad to realize my concerns were totally unfounded. Chris and Jan have built an exceptional team and location which will appeal to people of ANY skill level. His whole team are incredibly welcoming, with very high level jiu-jitsu for anyone, regardless of their skill level, age, or size. If you're in the Kingston area, the only thing you'll regret is not starting here sooner. Thanks Hayabusa!! 10/10⭐️

Due to military postings/courses, I've had the opportunity to train at several different gyms. They all have their strong points, but Hayabusa, for me, is different. This gym is the complete package. The owners Chris and Janet make you feel very welcome from the moment you walk in the door. As do the students. The instructors are excellent and the classes are well run with a nice balance of technique and rolling. There's a place for everyone here from beginners to serious competitors. On top of this, the facility is excellent. Always very clean and modern with high quality equipment. Whenever I'm in Kingston or at least nearby, I look forward to getting back on the mats at Hayabusa.

I came in from out of town, during my training camp and was met with open arms. The team at Hayabusa Kingston went above and beyond to locate training partners for me and to keep my tools and techniques sharp. It was a melting pot of knowledge and I both listened and offered technical advice which was met with the utmost respect. I highly recommend paying this gym a visit as it was clean, spacious and filled with enthusiastic and knowledgeable athletes. I owe you guys a huge debt for your services and wish nothing but the best as they continue to expand the mixed martial arts community in Kingston and Ontario.

I have been going to Fitness Kickboxing classes at Hayabusa Academy Kingston for just over a month now. From the first class, Janet went out of her way to make me feel comfortable and excited to get moving! Her teaching environment is so warm and welcoming, and she will always make sure that every class is unique, fun and challenging for all skill levels. When there were classes with a large waitlist, they even added an additional class to their busy schedule just to accommodate everyone who wanted to be there!! So nice. Thank you guys for welcoming us to your space! I will recommend it to many, many friends.

  • Ryan Pimentel

I've always wanted to start BJJ and joining the Hayabusa academy in Kingston has been one of the best decisions I've made. The environment and people welcomed me from the very beginning and everybody wants to see you succeed. The coaches are very knowledgeable, polite, funny and down to earth. They've taught me things beyond jiu jitsu, positive ways to look at life and how to overcome stress. There is always a time slot that will fit your schedule wether you work nights or days, or if you want to come in for a roll on saturday. 10/10 stars.

Kingston East is very luck to have this amazing gym in our community. Chris and Janet are just awesome with the kids. My son took Jujitsu classes and the coaching was excellent! He thought the world of Chris. And the gym itself is clean, spacious with nice change rooms. As well, very fair business practices. We couldnt continue classes and Chris and Janet treated us fairly and with respect, we will certainly be back if possible in the future and we highly recommend this great business!

This is a large, clean gym with great equipment and mats. The team was very welcoming when I dropped in while traveling on business. I attended their Friday evening BJJ class and open mat the following morning. Chris Wellstood, an owner and instructor welcomed me in with open arms and even have me the opportunity to roll with him several times after class. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and I look forward to dropping in again the next time I'm in Kingston.

  • Santiago Duque

I have trained at several different Brazilian Jiu Jitsu clubs and this one is honestly amazing. This club is perfect for everyone, from the fitness fanatic, to the BJJ competitor, to learning self defense. The instructors and students are extremely welcoming of beginners. The instructors are extremely experienced and they do it for the love of the sport. They are very conscious of hygiene and careful in order to avoid injuries. I recommend it 100%

I lived in Kingston for the past summer and wanted to get back into training MMA after doing it for a couple years in high school. Hayabusa offered a very happy and healthy atmosphere with great instructors, and safety/respect-oriented programs for all levels. Chris and Janet (the owners) are huge beauties and I would highly recommend this gym- I don't usually write reviews but I wrote this one because I figured I owe them.

Awesome Facility! I was staying in Kingston for the night and looked for a place to train. This place looked impressive from the photo's online and so I decided to email and ask about joining a class for the night. Chris was more than accommodating. The facility is very modern and clean. Great rolls, great instruction, great people. will easily be back when I can. 5 Stars!

  • Gord Jackson

Three reasons to train at Hayabusa Academy: 1. Great instructors and classes. I like how Chris sets up progressive drilling to work through the technique being taught. 2. Large clean facility. 3. Most importantly, a sense of community. Chris and Janet immediately made me feel welcome in their gym and this carried over to all the members. Thank you Chris and Janet!

  • Taim Saeed

Chris, Janet, and all of the coaches have created an incredible environment for training and the community at the academy is very friendly and supportive. The training itself is a perfect balance between teaching technical skills and building physical/mental fitness. I would highly recommend Hayabusa for anyone with any experience level!

  • Aidan Fritz-Millett

The staff and instructors at the Hayabusa Academy are incredibly friendly and the quality of classes and instruction is amazing. I would highly recommend this gym for anyone looking for a great workout, to learn some self defence, to learn about combat sports or looking for some great social connections.
