I went to this school for 11 years of my life . The first few years where really good through out elementary but took a big downhill in junior high. Some teachers were really amazing and helped me through my struggles with school. Unfortunately most of the teachers didn't give off a role model character. Through out junior and high school i would experience lots of impatience and lots of mistreating. Me personally, I didn't experience much disrespect from teachers but from seeing or dealing with my peers in the same class has shown otherwise. The way teachers handle their students at HCA is unacceptable. I learned this from transferring out into a public board. In the public system the teachers are extremely self controlled and not just handle students that come off disrespectful in a professional matter but maintain a good role model character and set a good example. This isn't attacking the staff at HCA it is just my opinion. Teachers are way too involved in situations they shouldn't be. For example there was a situation my peer that was involved in that happened after school hours and off school property but the school staff and administration got involved due to an angry parent contacting the school. This example may seem very broad and may come off as a "petty" example but me knowing the whole situation it was totally not necessary for HCA staff to be involved. I'm not here to complain about certain things because that wouldn't be a review. I am currently stating what i have experienced during my time of study which was 11 years. in my opinion if the staff where to be a lot more disconnected from students there would be a lot more peace. Also I find quite amusing is the fact that HCA used their Facebook rating because the google rating was a lot less. From reading a lot of they other reviews i would agree with most. I am definitely not the only one who has the same opinion. For grades K-9 I feel the school is best benefited. I would not recommend this school for sending your kids to high school. First off the school doesn't have a great population of kids for highschool. In my grade 10 year there wasn't any school sports and not many option classes due to the lack of people, in fact both grade 10 classes were conjoined due to the amount of people. It depends on what you want to do with your life. If you are looking for a music program i 100% agree that HCA is for you because no doubt that HCA has the best music program i know of in Calgary. For other things like sports and other option classes that might open a door of opportunities, unfortunately there is limited supply of variety. For me my experience was amazing from K-7 and after that I wish i moved to the public system. After moving I really found myself and discovered who i was. I encourage staff, parents, and kids to read my review with knowing that writing this review was written to my best of intentions. I understand to my knowledge that the staff are trying their absolute best to create a good and safe environment and hopefully take my opinion into hands. In the run down of everything, my major complains would be Staff not treating and handling students in a professional matter.

I came to Heritage back when I was 12 years old and it was probably my 4th month being in Canada. When I was told about this school, I saw that it had great reviews for when it came to peer relationships as well as student development in Academic, and Faith. When I first came there I hoped for the best considering the reputation that it held only to be disappointed to the point that it caused me psychological stress. Some teachers that I had are phenomenal when I was there but there were some that had a great deal of negative impact on me. What I was expecting was a caring environment where my education and my faith can grow but what I got was basically being drilled to think a certain way and risk suspension or even expulsion if I didn't agree. I understand that there are expectations when it comes to private Christian schools but when theology and doctrine is crammed and forced down without even a chance of asking questions, it did take quite an effect on me as well as my faith. Heritage being more "Evangelical" or some would say "Alliance", they have adopted what almost all Evangelical and Alliance Churches do and that is adopting Augustinian and Clavinist principles in which my nature as an individual is nothing more than a product of the "original sin" and that my freedom is also predetermined are some of the things that affected me throughout the three long years I have spent there. My earliest memory of Heritage which raised red flags for me was when I was given a talking to by the principal who believed my actions merited some strict tongue lashing. My action was just listening to and I quote "evil, non Christian music". I was told to remove my favorite artists unless I wanted to be suspended or worse in school suspended. I still to this day can't figure out what was evil about listening to Boston, Led Zepplin, and even Johnny Cash (who was a devoted Baptist). I wont list out everything in detail but the bottom line is that the way children are forced to think by Heritage, manifests in their actions and behaviors. There were times I asked questions that called a bit of doubt about the Christian faith amongst my classmates only to be insulted and ridiculed by the self professing "pure of heart." I had no personality except for the wretched that needs to be made well and I was treated as an outsider. I eventually found somewhere I belonged when I transferred out and went to a public school. The students and staff there didn't care about my values and beliefs so I was able to craft my own person which I was once made to feel ashamed of. I came to Heritage as a Christian, and I left as an Atheist and honestly I don't blame anyone who wanted to leave their faith because of what they were taught at HCA. I came back to Christianity after exploring my faith and beliefs with a group of people who cared more about me exploring rather than being told what to think. I am an Orthodox Christian as well as a skeptical man and the more skeptical I get, the stronger my faith becomes. I do hope that Heritage has changed for the better since the years I attended for the student's sake so that they may grow strong in their faith.

Mike and I are so grateful and blessed to be able to send our two kids to Heritage Christian Academy from Kindergarten-GR12. It is our 18th year, and our daughter will be graduating this year (2020). We love this school because the teachers and staff have always strived to follow and glorify our Lord Jesus Christ in their teachings and lives. Mike and I enjoyed volunteering whenever we were able, be it field trips, Music Tours, Mission Trips, School Christmas/Spring concerts, attending school council meetings, cleaning/organizing the library, photocopying, etc. Yes, we could have been using those volunteering times to work and make more money, but we never regretted doing them. We thank God for the opportunity. I agree that there has been staff, teachers, students, and even parents who have had challenging and less desirable personalities & behaviours, but such is life. Our family is not perfect, too. Even the Bible is full of believers who gave Paul, Peter, and Jesus lots of headaches and heartaches. HCA is no exception. But, in general, it truly is a beautiful school and Mike & I wish HCA all the best!

my experience at heritage is probably one of worst experiences i’ve ever had. the staff are overall bad at their jobs. ex. either paying too close attention and giving students no freedom whatsoever, making them feel like their in a prison, or no attention and letting the children run wild also there is favoritism in every corner, students who’s parents donate big money to the school get away with a lot more then regular kids. some teachers are just bad at explaining curriculum, others are amazing, it’s truly hit or miss. and if you have opinions that disagree with some aspects that a teacher does agree with you are ridiculed and outcasted// being told that your opinion is wrong and you shouldn’t think that way. overall not a school i would ever put anyone through.

This is a great school, it has great teachers, great students, and is an amazing place to grow in a Christian environment, it is wheelchair accessible, people with disabilities can go here, and they have a cafeteria for those who don't/can't bring a lunch. I would DEFINITELY recommend this school, it would be a great school to bring your kids to. This school also ranges from k-12 so if you have a big family, your family can all go to the same school. Like I said before, it's a great school, you should bring your Christian kids, and I would rate this 5 stars because of it's Christian environment, and ability to grow spiritually.

The amount of negativity in some these reviews is shocking. This is not at all how I would describe my experience at HCA. I am a graduating student who has been at the school since kindergarten and I have received so much love and support at this school. The teachers and other staff members are incredible, not only at delivering material, but also as being mentors and role models. The friends I have made here will last a lifetime. I have grown in my faith and as a person, and I have felt free to be myself. This school has been like a family to me and I will miss coming back every day!

I highly recommend this school to all parents. This is a safe, fun school which we have enjoyed and appreciated immensely. My children have been attending HCA for 7 years and we have all loved being part of such an amazing community. We moved across the city and all the kids begged to keep going to HCA, which we did. The teachers are exceptional and they care about their students well-being. I wouldn't want my children going anywhere else. The school ranks in the top 11% of all schools in Alberta according to the Fraser Institute report in 2015-16. The results speak for themselves.

after spending 10 years of my life at this place i can safely say that this place was not a safe environment for me. people who give this school a good review usually mention how the students are the problem and the teachers have nothing to do with it. while that’s pretty much true, the students are still a part of the school and i had an overall horrible experience. since leaving i have discovered more about myself than i did at heritage. if this is the school for you i won’t judge, it just wasn’t for me.

This school is a little bit expensive. But other then that it has amazing teachers. There is this one teacher named Keegan Harrison. He makes me laugh and we have a good time. I Used to hate doing work experience but now I Dont mind it. It is a good use of my time. Because One day I Know I Will need to know how to dishes in the future and the best time to start is when I am Young. thanks for reviewing this.

Heritage is a great option to send your kids to if you are looking for a place for them to feel safe to be open about their faith and grow more in their relationships with God. Of course every school comes with its issues but I have enjoyed my time here at Heritage and would recommend it to anyone. Just wish it was less expensive and had more option courses for High School students.

We have been at HCA for 18 years so far. All 7 of my children are either currently attending Heritage or have graduated from here. It is home to us in so many ways. The support and care and love that has been poured into our family has made challenging roads much easier to navigate. We are very blessed to be a part of the Heritage Christian Academy family

We have always wanted our kids to enroll in a Christian School. GOD granted our heart desires by allowing the kids to be enrolled at HCA. Miraculously there was availability and my 3 kids are now here. The kids have developed stronger interest in the things of God and I have also seen improvements in their academics. Always, always will recommend.

  • SAMMY 4LIFE

The school has great education for kids and teens. And the best part is that HCA is a school where you learn about christian values and the teachers are super nice and super thoughtful. If your considering taking a kid to a christian school, I personally would recomend you sending the kid to HCA! -Samuel M.P

I love this school so very much. No one can make me change my mind. the other reviews that say anything negative about teachers are not true at all. The teachers are NOT racist, nor sexist, nor rude. they do not bully the students. Some of the students make them very upset, and that is they're problem.

  • Adam Boyko (SoulSportif)

HCA is a great school that I would highly recommend to parents who are looking for a high performance school, that brings out the best in our children. The teachers and support staff are incredibly welcoming and care so much about the kids. This is one of the best schools in the city!

  • Jina M

HCA is very good school. I highly recommend it. My kids are attending this school since last three years and we are very thankful to all the support we get from teachers and other staff. Very good atmosphere and God is honoured in this school. God bless HCA

Wonderful staff to work with. I have grown in my faith in Jesus ever since I started working here. I can't wait for my daughter to know Jesus more, develop Christlike character and have quality education when she starts her Kindergarten year.

  • Jng Clan

I'm a student in grade 12 and as it's my last year here I would love it, if the school made some warmup training shirts for this year's soccer season and hopefully get some better coaches and staff because I'm dedicated to win a banner.

  • Sony Abraham Mammen

  • Evild DS

Has Good Support and Teachers...I only struggled because I have Depersonalization/Derealization Disorder. So...i felt alienated but that is not the school's fault. It tries it's best to be a functioning Christian School.

  • Jaxon Brown

I come to Heritage in 2011, and I loved it here. The teacher cared about the success of their students. They were willing to help you if you had questions on faith, school, life or if you just need to talk.

  • Elijah Gillard

pretty glad I went here, tho kinda not here now, here is a happy horse Uno man that I discovered doing a bible project where I made an Uno Cult, hit me up to get the Uno Bible

  • Bon Soir

The teachers are racist, and people of colour get suspended for no reason and the teachers do not care about you whatsoever. All the school cares about is money.

  • mae

I think its great. the students are nice and welcoming, honestly, i think the fees are high though haha, but still great school!!
