Rented a car for a week at the Piazzale Roma Hertz/Dollar in October on vacation. A very unhappy incident happened after I returned the car to the location. I returned the car during office hour, parked it right outside the office (not at the garage above), and the staff inspected the car and said everything was ok. A few days later I was quite surprise to find that my credit card had been charged an extra EUR50 by Hertz! I called its Piazzale Roma office to inquire. The staff answering the phone immediately said that it was for the garage parking charges. He directed me to the Hertz website to look under location information. I did and here is the exact quote: "If you return your vehicle to the "Municipal Garage" (above the Hertz location), a parking fee of € 49.50 will apply". So I argued that I shouldn't be charge for this parking fee since I returned the car to the Hertz location and not to the Garage above. The staff simply said it doesn't matter, everyone has to pay. I feel that this operator has been dishonest. This is not what the website states literally. And even if this is a mandatory fee ("everyone has to pay") then it should have been stated in the rental contract. Failing to reason with the Hertz staff, I called the credit card company and explained the situation. The credit card customer service immediately credit back the EUR50, and indicated to me that they will investigate the case. The lesson is, be very careful if you decide to rent from hertz at this location. My experience with them has tarnished an otherwise fantastic impression of Venice.

The worst car rental experience I've ever had with the most unfriendly staff I've ever encountered. This is not an exaggeration. We were simply astounded. I prepaid for a car and was delayed and unable to make it to the rental location at the originally scheduled pickup time. The location closes for two hours in the middle of the normal working day, while all other rental companies there remain open. We arrived 4 minutes after they had closed their doors. A staff member came out and was immediately incredibly rude to us, unprovoked. He literally mocked our words. He said that they will hold the car reservation for 2 hours, except for when they close midday during that window, then the reservation is terminated and it is up to their discretion if they will honor the reservation at all. He said something to the effect of "maybe we will have a car for you, maybe not. Maybe I'll help you." What doesn't make sense is that when we got there, it was still within the two hour window AND it was a prepaid reservation. There is no reason for them to have rented the car we reserved to someone else, which he claimed they had. The whole experience really ruined our day. Luckily the main Hertz customer service was much nicer and refunded our prepaid reservation. It still really threw off our trip as we were not able to get another automatic car reservation. We ended up just taking the train everywhere, which isn't ideal with luggage.

This was such a stressful experience renting a car from here. I had everything booked in advance - a confirmed payment off my credit card and all the information provided to the company previous to picking up the car. On the day of the reservation, we were told we can't rent a car & that it is impossible because I am not of age. Even though i double checked the policies and had to put my age down while making the online reservation. After some discussion in Italian, the men behind the counter came to the conclusion that I can indeed rent a car but it will cost 3x more. They gave me no other option and couldn't even refund me the money I had ALREADY paid in advance for this reso. I ended up taking the loss of money and going with the car they had because I had no other choice to continue my trip. It has been 10 days and i still haven't been refunded the original money I paid and am still frustrated and angry at the amount of money I ended up losing. The car was great but the process to get it seemed so inappropriate.

This place is fine. There are serval car rental company in the same plaza. Staff is kind and willing to help. Average speed of service is about 20minutes per customer in line. When I got my car, I waited about an hour as I am the 3rd customer in line. My friend got theirs from Avis next door. Similar speed. Some of the wait time because they have to drive your rental from their lot to the office. The rental office parking is very small, be careful go in and out because it is one way! In regards to some of the issue of overcharges, here my observation: There could be bad apples in any if these rental.places, you should protect yourself by: 1. Inspect the car and take pictures and video which shows car mileage and Gas tank level. 2. Note and damages and have the office signed your note. 3. Keep Gas receipts and take picture of mileage. 4. If the house Rd San we photo and video on your car upon return. Simple er steps an keep everyone safe environment :)

The manager went out of his way to help us out, opened office on Sunday to allow us to pick up car. Had arranged for a hire car for pick up from airport but wallet stolen with driving licence and credit cards. Car hire company would not allow us to pick up car using digital copy driving licence and debit card. Stood around on Saturday trying to find out if any of the car hire companies at this location could help. All very busy with customer pickups. Eventually spoke to Hertz. No problem, accepted both digital copy driving licence and debit card. Saved us a heap of trouble as we were due to get to Siena on Sunday. The manager is great, always super polite and super helpful with all customers. A massive thank you again for your help, which allowed us to continue with our holiday in Siena.

The rental process was fine, and I was prepared to return the car by 5pm same day but the guy at the counter said I could return it anytime by just leaving the car in the parking garage and dropping off the key and card in the dropoff window slot. So we came back at 6pm, half an hour after closing. Of course what he didn't volunteer and say was that by doing this there is a 40 Euro parking charge plus 22% VAT. The rental terms and agreement did not say anything about this either. I will try a dispute with my credit card and see what happens. It's totally ridiculous because they would have parked the car in the same exact place if I had returned it at 5pm. So I suggest to avoid this rental location due to the poor hours and rent at Marco Polo airport instead which is open 24hrs a day.

Run far from this Hertz-location. We ended up paying almost twice as much as the initial price as stated by the Hertz representative in Milan. Paid outrageous extra amounts for parking which wasn't on the receipt (in a space designated for dropping off the car), fuel refill, and vague additional fees. Nobody communicated these fees, they just hurry you to sign the contract and get out of there. Upon calling this location, I finally got a representative on the line after 7 (!) tries over different days, and was met with the most rude and unprofessional Hertz representative ever, interrupting me in every sentence and calling me a 'problem case' and a 'stupid tourist'. Listen to all the other people on here giving this a 1-star review and rent your car somewhere else.

Huge fees when trying to return to this location. $40 for parking was TWICE what the car itself cost per day. While this isn't directly Hertz related they offer little to no assistance with Gas especially for foreign renters who might find it difficult or impossible to fill the vehicle on their own. In our case, we stopped by 4 gas stations and not one had someone who could accept a Credit Card in person and automated machines require a PIN which is not available for U.S. Credit Cards. The "Fuel Service" option when you pre-pay was $80 and we declined it. Thankfully returning the vehicle with 1/2 a tank ended up costing $60 so we "saved" money but the actual gas was only $30 so they doubled it in service charges.

If you understand the Italian culture, you’ll know the pace is much more relaxed compared to the US. With that said, I arrived to find a slow moving line with those in front of me experiencing the same issue, the class of car reserved was not available. This problem is not the fault of the employees working there but a corporate issue. I too was placed in a much smaller vehicle. However, the staff remained calm and professional, doing the best they could. It’s worth noting that even if you are a Hertz‘s triple platinum member and in their customer hall of fame, at this location you will wait in the same line as the person who just walked in off the street without a reservation.

Terrible and rude staff. When a question about price was asked, the answer was insulting. When we were waiting for our turn, 2 customers walked in and asked for help but were turned away without receiving help. One asked whether the car can be returned to Hertz at the Venice airport but he did not receive any help, and was even laughed at (mockingly) after the customer left. The other asked for help with the GPS and the staff member said no help will be given because the car came with a “free GPS” and “you did not pay for the GPS and if it works, you are lucky”. This franchise needs to do something about its customer service as it was literally non-existent.

Most of the reviews here are terrible but we had a routine, normal experience at this Hertz location. American couple in 30s. Booked online a few weeks in advance. Only short wait at the rental counter. The Hertz representative was polite and spoke English well. He did talk me into a diesel motor version of the Fiat 500 and this extra cost (5 Euro/day) was reflected accurately on my credit card bill. Otherwise the bill was unchanged from my online reservation. Basic auto insurance was included in my online reservation so there were no extra, surprise costs. I hope this review is reassuring that it is possible to have a normal rental from this location.

Horrible experience: I reserved and pre-paid a car via non-Hertz rental car web portal for EUR 73/day. On the day of the pickup, they told me that they are charging an additional EUR 70.70 for parking and other fees. This was NOT communicated via web portal. As I needed the car on that day and other agencies would have charged the same for walk-ins, I had no choice but to take it, unfortunately. Due to that rip-off, I CANNOT RECOMMEND HERTZ in Venezia! Update 26. Oct. 2023: After I filed a complaint via the non-Hertz rental car web portal, Hertz has sent me a €71 refund of the additional parking and other fees. Thank you!

WIll never rent from Hertz again, I was overcharged and I keep getting unexplained charges on my credit card. When I contacted billing, I got a very disrespectful person on the line who wouldn't even let me finish my sentences and basically told me that it was my fault for not checking the contract before getting the car (I was charged a parking fee for no reason. Booked through Expedia and got the amount I should have paid, but after the rental several other fees suddenly appeared). I understand that there are local fees, but I also expected to get a respectful customer service from such a well known company).

Had a great experience dropping the car off. It was a little confusing where to park the car (drive into the ramp entrance to the left of the hertz building, grab a ticket, and the ramp attendant will direct you to the 10th floor). However, once parked, it was super easy to just drop the keys and ramp ticket off. The employee behind the Hertz counter was friendly and I was in and out within 30 seconds - it was that quick! My credit card was charged a few days later and there were NO hidden fees for damage or otherwise - the price was just as I expected.

Our car was great, the rental process easy, and Hertz has a convenient after hours drop off in case you don't return by 5:30 pm. I have to give this a bad review because Hertz charged me extra for repainting the front of the car, claiming there were chips in it. We didn't hit anything on our drive, and when I asked for photo evidence, the photos they sent were extremely low resolution and I didn't see any nicks. As with all rentals, do a visual check of damage before hand and to be safe, return the car with someone present to dispute possible damages.

I wished I read the reviews before renting. We have never accounted a car rental in any country where they charge you for dropping the car off in a car park that they ask you to. Staff do not explain this. They just print the contract, and hurry you to sign. Not only that but they charge €46 when the parking itself is is free up to 12 hours and €35 for 24 hours. Considering it is not the client/customers decision to park in the garage it customers should not be bearing the costs. It would’ve been cheaper to rent next door at Europcar. Lesson learned.

I was very nervous going into this rental experience, but we had an excellent experience with this Hertz. The staff was very accommodating and efficient. I think there was an issue with our reservation (the car we booked was not available), so they upgraded us to a beautiful car at no additional charge. We quickly received our car and were on our way. Returning the car was also very easy, I was very impressed. I would definitely recommend this rental office.

We had a great experience with this company. The man behind the desk was very quick to get us our car and gave us very easy instructions on how to return it and how to get out of the rental area (somewhat confusing for an American). We had no issues at all. We were given a brand new Audi that was very clean. We opted to fill up before bringing the car back because it was a bit cheaper that way for us. Would recommend!

We were not informed that the office would be close from 12:00 till 14:30 due to lunch break. If we knew this we would had scheduled the pickup earlier. I find an absurd this kind of touristic company close in the middle of the day, while Sixt for example was open. This ruined our experience an our travel plan as we lost precious hours waiting for them to reopen their doors.

We had an excellent experience returning the vehicle. The staff were very cooperative and were waiting to receive the vehicle since its a small center. The whole process was completed within 10 minutes. The only criticism I have is that there isn't much parking at the center and so could cause issues during peak tourist season.

I rented a Ford Focus in Venice heading to the Dolomites. Unfortunately, the car suddenly stopped not once but TWICE due to problems with the battery. I tried to call the road assistance but it took me hours to get an answer from them. Please get yours cars double checked before handing them over to customers. Thanks

Don't rent from the place! Got a one-way car from the place, they gave me a damaged car, full of dent and scratches, didn't want to waste time so I took the car. One and half month later after returned from Italy, they posted two more charges on my credit card, ending up around $250 for the two day rental.

We only need the car for the weekend but need a bigger car for 5 people and our luggages. The staff at the front desk is friendly and also warn us about the speed camera exiting Venice on the bridge. The car is big and comfortable with a nice build in screen. Overall I am pretty happy with the experience.

Dropped car off, and parked in front of the Hertz office as directed to by the Hertz representative there. We were actually pleasantly surprised at how easy the drop off was. Later, we learned that we were charged over 40 Euro for parking!! No mention of this by the guy that helped us. Beware!

A little crowded, but so is everything else in Venice. Great service however, and conveniently located right off the water bus' last stop at the bus station. The boys helped me put a child seat in, and helped me program the built in navigator. The mid sized car is very roomy and comfortable.

Friendly staff, car was almost new and clean. Car was booked for 10am. We arrived to collect at 11:45am. It took until 12:30am for the car to be ready for us. I guess that's just how it is in Venice?!
