I honestly feel bad for all the people who had negative experiences here. I might just be lucky, but this has been one of the nicest places to buy both cake and bubble tea for me in Birmingham. Bubble tea is consistent, and sure, tapioca are kinda hard sometimes. However, I still give 5 stars because I have had this experience in every bubble tea shop I have tried in UK. Actually, Hey Sugar manages to give hard tapioca less frequently than other places (from my personal experience). They also have lovely cakes on display. I buy them on every occasion because the sweetness level is just right and the cream is nice and light. Prices at this place are pretty standard. I also never had a bad experience with customer servuce- they've been fine by me!

Disgusting bubble tea! Ordered the Oero bubble tea and what I got in reality was very different from what they advertised the drink would look like. There was no oero in my drink at all it was just plain tea! I could have made this myself with a teabag and water. I have attached a picture of what it was meant to look like vs what I actually got. Got scammed for a £6 drink. First time and last time I’m trying again from this shop. Save your money and spend from a better shop instead!

If I could give this place 0 stars I would because I bought two of the paper cupcakes just now and upon opening the cakes, I found them soggy but thought it would be fine to eat. That is right until I removed the paper and found black mould all over it!!! Upon further inspection I found black mould dotted all over the bottom sides of the cake as well. Absolutely disgusting! Will not be returning. If anyone else buys these cakes -- don't!!!! God knows how many days these were left on the shelf and are not "fresh".

I wish i checked the reviews before buying. I ordered a Taro Milk tea and it tasted nothing like taro and just more like warm milk with a tiny bit of tea in it. The colour was white (no where near the purple taro colour). i also ordered it with no boba or jelly in it (as i’m not a fan) and i still got jelly inside it. Could just be a one off but overall, wasn’t the best experience. I wish them well on their journey though!

Reasonable selection of Chinese pastries and cakes. Hygiene however needs desperate attention! Self serve pastries and buns such as custard tarts left in the open without a covering such as a plastic door and no tongs or plastic bags/gloves available to pick and box them forcing customers to use hands. Worst of all there was a large tray of cakes on a table in the open air by the door uncovered with multiple customers making contact with it.

Honestly probably my favourite place to get bubble tea or baked goods in Birmingham city centre. I’ve seen people say it’s rude or rushed here but I think it’s more efficient especially because it can really busy which I like. Orders are taken super quick and drinks are out just as quick. Would say it’s a little expensive but that’s typical for city centre, never been disappointed in terms of the products themselves.

I was very disappointed with my recent visit. I like this place for their pastries and cakes, but I don't think I'll be coming back again. The lady who did my drink was very rude. She pointed out my drink in the air and called rudely "hello" while she was waving my drink in the air. She just tossed it on the counter, didn't even give me a straw. The matcha I ordered didn't taste nice either.

As a bubble tea connoisseur I have tried all the bubble tea's around Birmingham, so I was excited to try their density milk tea with high expectations. All I will say is, overly priced, no bubbles and just full of milk with little to no taste. I might as well of bought a carton of milk from Tesco and would of saved me from the disappointment. Only positive was the staff were polite.

Tried the red bean pastry, egg yolk pastry and a coconut custard bun and they were all really nice and affordable! Flaky pastry, generous filling, and the bun was soft and not dry at all like it has been from other places I've tried. Everything tasted fresh and also not too sweet which I liked. Didn't try the tea and the service was fine, would recommend for the baked goods!

I usually go here to buy the buns, but the customer service is awful and really unfriendly, I walked in and the server just looked me up and down which was weird. As much as I like eating cakes and buns there are many other Chinese bakeries I can buy from in Birmingham and I would rather put my money in places where you feel they want you to buy from them

Today the lady who was serving me acted in a rude manner: after preparing my Honey Lemon Tea, she called me saying “Hello?” And tossed my drink on the counter toward me as well as the straw. It was almost as if she didn’t want to work anymore or was just bothered by my being there and paying for a drink and a couple of pastries.... Terrible experience it was.

I recently visited Hey Sugar and was pleased with the sweet and delicious treats they offer. The cakes were lovely and the drinks were decent. However, I did notice that the staff weren't the friendliest, which slightly affected my overall experience. Despite that, I still enjoyed my visit and would recommend Hey Sugar for their tasty desserts.

Have been here twice now, price is good but the first time I came (grass jelly green tea) it was very tasteless and this time the matcha milk had a very bad aftertaste - needed more sugar and tasted as though the matcha wasn’t mixed thoroughly enough. Definitely better places to get your milk tea but the baked goods look amazing here!

Highly recommend their Caramel Pudding Milk Tea with Cream cheese. I buy this milk tea every time I visit. I travel far to come here just because the space is so calm and the bakery smells lush too. The most polite staff I have ever met too! Always so happy to see me and know my order before I could say a word! :) HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Order two medium drinks - normal boba milk tea and a taro boba milk tea. Got home and taro was not taro...it was a normal milk tea. Boba in both tea were overcooked and soggy. It like ordering a drink...not drinking it straightaway...microwaving it to heat up and there you go. Paid extra for taro too. Not going back

The bakery is really good! One thing that I particularly liked was the fact that every product had a tag with the ingredients used to make the product, which can be really helpful for people that can't eat a certain type of food. The tiramisù tasted amazing just like the one I tasted in a bakery in Italy! Love it.

  • Lina B

Lovely selection of buns. Kept fresh in sealed packaging. Although I wish their mooncakes had proper descriptions on them and not just saying “mooncake” on them as confirmed by Chinese husband, as we hate mixed nuts mooncake lol.

My new favourite place, I want to try one of the big cakes next time I have event. Good quality food and drink here. Clear ingredients for the bakery items too. I had the passion fruit iced tea, I wouldn't say it was boba, it had coconut fruit jelly instead of boba, but it was nice. Nice and clean too.

  • Adbur Rashid

I'm sorry, but this tea has an unpleasant odor and doesn't taste right. I suggest prioritising your health and opting for regular, healthier tea instead of the boba tea. It would be best to avoid this particular tea. Don't often write review but I know it should be a warn for younger people.

  • Shakshi Mehta

Terrible experience with the staff. They didn’t seem interested at all. Asked them for suggestions as it was out first time there but they didn’t welcome any questions. We ended up liking nothing. It’s quite pricey. Quantity is good but terrible taste. Don’t recommend going here.

I've had 3 birthday cakes from this place and dozens of drinks and pastries and they never fail me. The cakes are amazing and the staff accommodate to the customisations like putting names on the cakes and the pastries and drinks are always good and the options are endless <3

At first I never liked fruit bubble tea but since I came to Hey Sugar I fell in love with bubble tea especially passion fruit ohhhh yummy and although I live 10 miles away I'll come into town for it. Distance is no issue. I think I'd ask the owner to open a shop nearer to me.

  • Aaron Liu

Delicious and authentic Chinese bakery with a wide selection of bread. They also sell lots of new kinds of bubble tea. The bubble tea I ordered (Oreo cake bubble tea) was delicious and the portion was large, i was also given a generous amount of boba. Will be returning

  • Leigh Bilston

I'm a pretty frequent customer (at least once a week) the staff pretty much know my order as soon as I walk in, they're always polite and the food and drinks are always great quality, I'd highly recommend checking it out Drink recommendation: Caramel pudding milk tea.

  • Mo

Customer service is awful and disrespectful. The staff are extremely mean. They discriminate, rush, and disrespect you. Really do yourself a favour by not going to this place. I regret spending money here. 0/10 I wish I can report some of the staff members.

  • Sruthi

I normally enjoy the pandan cake and the egg custard tarts but because the custard tarts are left out in the open they’ve gone off as the filling was really runny and tasted off. Same with the Pandan cake, although it’s packaged they’re not

  • Manjot Kaur

Very very pricey for what it is. Sometimes it's closed when not expected and no signs of new opening times. The staff can be very rude and the tapioca can be raw... so thinking of going else where for my regular bubble teas from now on

  • Food_views and_reviews

Excellent quality cakes Good value for money I had the chocolate Swiss roll type cake from the chiller. It was light and fluffy, with a lovely chocolate flavour I would highly recommend and will definitely be going again

  • Weni Anthonia

The place was amazing. There was a long wait though because it was very busy. The milk tea was amazing with boba . They do cakes there too. Will definitely buy some. They are so cute with pikachu design …

  • Abbey M

I got a matcha milk tea for nearly £7.. And to say it was a dissapointment is an understatement. Didn't taste like matcha at all! The customer service was not friendly. Wouldn't go back or reccomend at all.

Worst customer service ever. Look again your receipt before the payment. They always overcharge you

Best bubble tea I've ever had. Their brown sugar tapioca makes everything else pale in comparison.
