This is a truly fantastic second hand English bookshop, the quantity and variety is second to none and it’s a place I visit fairly frequently. Unfortunately, and this is the only reason Hibernian doesn’t get 5 stars, the gentlemen who owns the place is miserable. It feels strange that a guy who has chosen to operate a second hand English book shop always seems disappointed by customers. It's as if the chap feels that if his shop really has to be visited, then he’d rather the clientele consist of the type of self-satisfied, puesdo-intellectuals who are never far from a copy of Dostoevsky and always up for a chin wag about sustainable gardening. Ask him for direction or help and suffer through his quiet judgment as he peers over the rim of his glasses and begrudgingly proffers up the tiniest bit of assistance (if any at all). For the sake of being fair, I will put forward that perhaps the gentlemen is shy. That he doesn’t quite know how best to act with people and that his arrogance acts as a thin veil for his insecurity. Perhaps even, he is an introvert and mustering up the confidence to deal with customers is a real struggle. If this is the case, get over it, dude, you run a shop. If it weren’t for the fact that it really is a superbly well-stocked bookshop, I’d say, avoid the bother. To the guy who owns the place: cheer up, mate – we’re only after a decent read.

I am totally crazy about books and I was in this shops for definetly more than one hour, stollling along and piling books on my arms one after the other without being disturbed by any question of the shopowner if I were looking for something special. I can see that some people might mistake that for bad service but I believe there are many book-addicts as I am which love hanging around in such a store undisturbed because by those kind of questions we feel cornered and kind of forced to buy sth and then leave. For all those others who would love some more assistance on finding whatsoever: if you address the shop owner directly, he's very friendly and very helpful and also up for some chatting. I mean, in the end, all the booksellers in the world have the problem: either they jump on customers within the first five minutes and might scare the ones like me. Or they keep in the back, ready to anwer any upcoming question and to support you, making book shoppers like you feeling unattended to. So what would you suggest should be the perfect solution? And as for the price: Many of the books are at 1,75€, some at 3,50€ and - yes - some are more expensive but I would say in average evrything is totally fair about that.

The most complex English bookstore in Barcelona! You can find books of many topics here. Probably, they have everything in this place. People who work here know their stuff, so they can surely help you to find the book that you’re Serra hung for, navigate you within all poems, thrillers and all other books. They are very proficient in this field and they are very friendly You have books in many languages here: not only English, but also Dutch, German, French etc They are trying to keep up with trends and they also have new books here. The price for a new book is a bit higher, compared to prices for second hand books, but it’s still affordable Needless to say that all the books here are in good condition, so you don’t need to worry about the book falling apart in your hands, for example haha Oh and they also have antique books here, in case you’re interested

The best bookshop for English books. There are literally thousands of books, from old to new (with the majority being old or classics). I dare say that it's the best bookshop in Barcelona when it comes to English books. The majority of books are classified by genre and there are also a few that are classified by their age. There are multiple genres to browse, including crime, thriller, historical, fantasy, horror, and science fiction. The only downside is that the majority of books are somewhat unknown. There are only a few well-known authors and/or books but that's mostly related to the books that people bring in. I assume not that many people want to part with their favorite books. Given the scarcity of English books in Barcelona, this place is a definite "must-go" for everyone looking for English books.

A nice find while traveling in a foreign language country. The books are well organized and you can wander in for hours if you have the time for it. There's also an interesting antique book collection, the lower cost ones have several duplicates and the binding might be a bit loose, but it's still with the look. They keep track of their inventory quite well so you can always ask them to find a book if you don't see it on the shelves right away. I was unfortunately unable to find much of what I was looking for though... Which is understandable since it's the only English bookstore, most hard to find novels will disappear quickly. In terms of popular authors, crime and classics, they are very well stocked so go have a look, you might be surprised with an unexpected find.

I took my list of books downloaded from there website and used a Google map print to find my way to this small (only in size not value) second-hand bookstore in the heart of Gracia neighborhood. The lady and the gentelman who run the store, took the list and all the books were ready on the desk in around ten minutes. Only one book was missing. They took my email in case they managed to locate it. Next day, I got an email saying that the book is ready for me to pick up. Great service. Friendly people. Unbelievably inexpensive prices. If you are in books, you must not miss this bookstore.

  • Louis Gibson

Love this place, endless second hand books that could easily take an entire afternoon browsing. Plus a small but excellent collection of new books at ridiculously reasonable prices. If you go to the big book stores in town you'll easily pay 15-20 euros on a decent book in english, but in hibernian you can get many of the same books for 6 or 7 euros. You probably won't find what your looking for in terms of newly published books, but you'll definitely find 5 or 6 other books to buy. The owners have a complete knowledge of their catalogue. 5 stars doesn't do this place justice

  • Christopher Bryan Recio Tenorio

Really nice collection of books! Very diverse ranging from classics, antiques, YA fiction, thrillers, you name the genre and they probably have it! Most of the books are very cheap to so that’s definitely a plus! A bit hard to find though but that’s not a problem since it’s definitely worth it. In my experience when I came, my mistake was looking for newer books. Because in most cases they’re not gonna have them so it’s better to look for books from maybe 2016 and back. If you’re lucky they might have what you’re looking for!

  • Carlos Lorenzo

A small bookstore in the heart of Gracia neighborhood. In fact it is located in an inner street away from all the traffic and noise but really worth visiting if you are fond of second hand books in a foreign language (something not so common in Barcelona). In my case I bought two almost brand new books for 11 eur: Ken Follet's 'World without an end' and William Gibson's 'Neuromancer' so it was quite a bargain. I will come back for more!

  • Louise Curran

After travelling 35 minutes to go this bookstore I was made feel very uncomfortable in the store by the ownerm He was extremely annoyed by misplaced books (which were not done by me) as he walked up and down the store giving out to the other lady that someone had been having a tantrum in the book shop. I would have bought more books but after this I was so uncomfortable that I just wanted to leave. Owner is very rude and unprofessional.

  • Andia Ago

In theory I love this place and their collection but it's impossible to give more than 1 star honestly. Just as we got out of the shop today, the owner was going in and in the 1 second that it took my friend to get away from the door, he almost screamed 'would you let me go in???' Everyone has bad days but this is not the first incident and other reviews say the same. It's a shame really.

  • Chioveanu Flavia

Cozy and quiet place. Reminds me of my childhood home town second hand library. Thr prices are between 3 €-13€(from what I seen). I can't complain about the diversity of books, if you really enjoy reading you will definitely find something good. Most of them are in English, but they have some other languages too. Just stop by and buy a book. They made my day when I discovered them.

  • Irene Cotrina

Interesting bookshop that covers the great need of foreign readers in Barcelona for English language books . Most of the books are in very good condition and there is a good variety in all the genres. One might also find the latest editions, as the books are always renewed. True, the prices are higher than Re-read, but the choice is infinitely wider.

  • Jessica Bolaños

Great stop for English books in a city full of Catalan/Spanish language books! Found 2 great business reads for around 4 euros each. They have a small and amazing collection of classic 1st edition books (adult and childrens). Wonderful old and new books. Stop by and check this bookstore out. There's something for everyone! ❤

  • Yi-Jie Lai

It's a quite and serene place with various kinds of English book, from classics to modern, from fiction to non-fiction. Books are well organized by alphabet letter. Always easy to find books in reasonable price and good condition. I've bought Persuasion of Jane Austen, and it only costs me 5.75 €

  • Housni Alami

If you are looking for second hand english books in Barcelona, this is your best option, unfortunately the owners (a couple) are rude, they always look like they are alerted to fight, when they're not there, they hire random people who doesn't speak any english and can't help with anything.

  • Michael Karman

The only second hand english bookstore in Barcelona. Even if it weren't it would still be the best, I'm sure. If you go there as often as I you might wish its selection were bigger, but I have said the same of every book store I've ever been to--and I lived for seven years in Portland, OR.

  • Artemios Vazhui

Today, I visited this store, it was recommended to me by English-speaking people from Barcelona. I was so happy to see books only in English, I will come here often for shopping. Lots of interesting books. But today I bought these for learning English. I give 5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️…

  • Felix Martin

A great find for the bookworm in Barcelona. Prices are very Good, selection is very good and the quality of second hand books is also very good. I would recommend their selection of Granta publications which go back quite far and are sold for a fraction of the original retail price.

  • Cedric Hurth

Good business model of trade-in for credit. Decent selection but I was surprised to not be able to find books by Neil Gaiman, for instance. I suppose they have to rely on what people bring in for trading... A few new books as well, mostly classics and literature.

  • Elizabeth Deshi

I was so excited to find books in English sold for such a good price! The variety of titles available was so massive, I could spend all day here and consider it my happy place. The staff were really friendly and helpful too! Trust the maps for the location too!

  • Janette O'Carroll

1000% recommend. Great personalised customer service. I made a mistake with my online delivery and Viky sorted out the problem immediately. Before you buy another book, check out their online store to see if they have it first. Happy reading book lovers!

  • Raul Walsch

I love traveling and wherever I go I always look for cozy bookstores. Hibernian has a wide selection of second hand English books as well as some in German and other languages. It’s so fun to even just browse through books in different sections.

  • Elif Özkan

While I was searching a store for books in English, this one is recommended to me. When you enter inside, you can get the amazing smell of old books and you could find any kind of book in English. Also the ambiance from outside seems so nice!✨

  • Laura Carolina

Great to have a shop in Barcelona specifically for English secondhand books. I picked out a paperback to travel with and received a bit off the price for the small, old book I brought in to exchange. Non-fiction and fiction, a good selection.

  • Samantha V

Charming bookstore, with a great selection. They have a small selection of books in a few other languages besides English. The books are all in excellent used condition. I was also able to trade in some of my books with my purchase.

  • Artrenus Lezcano

Very nicely sorted, clean and with very friendly staff. Selection overall is pretty good for a second hand bookstore. It was a nice surprise to find they also have a section for other languages (French, German, Dutch, Italian,...).

  • Jamie Hay

Eclectic mix of books in English. Lots of old sf novels that may never see print again. A few Spanish authors in translation. Typically, lots of thrillers etc. Personally, I'd have lied a bigger selection of history books.

  • Matvey Davydov

Donated some books when I went there. The staff was very kind and helpful both in person and when emailing the store. A very calm and nice place overall with great staff. Will come back and would recommend. Solid 5/5

  • Sarah C

We have been taking our used books to Hibernian for years and buying new and second-hand books with the credit. They are very fair and we rarely leave without finding a book that takes our fancy. Very recommendable.

Probably my favourite bookshop in Barcelona. Both new and old books. Stuff you'd expect to see elsewhere and stuff you wouldn't. The staff/ owners aren't very friendly though.

  • John Stone

Prices are decent (particularly for first-hand stock) and the multilingual owners highly knowledgeable. Children's books are at the very back, antiquarian books at the front.

  • Pablo Sanchez

A very good 2nd hand bookshop. Probably the best in the city (the only thematic on English and other foreign languages). Good value for money and also some antics.… Más
