I’d been happily using HBVC since my dog went to puppy school 12 years ago, but had a disappointing experience when she died last year. More attention to admin and compassion is needed around end of life care and advice. When my dog became ill we saw two different vets who gave us conflicting advice and different (very expensive) meds within days of each other. Then after spending a harrowing night at Kensington 24 hour vet we were told to take our dog to our regular vet (HBVC) the next day. On arrival, clearly beside ourselves with worry, my daughter and I were asked sharply by vet Robyn “why are you here?!” Her lack of compassion at that distressing time was quite shocking. When I made a call a few days later to discuss a possible home visit for euthanasia the vet seemed eager to get off the phone rather than explain the process. Thankfully our dog died at home on her own time soon after. I notified HBVC with a card thanking them for caring for our dog over the years. A week later a letter came to inform us our (now dead) dog was due for a check up. It may seem like these are all small issues but at a time when we were worried about and then grieving for our lost animal friend it all added up to an awful experience and one I won’t forget. HBVC please have your vets compare notes when looking after sick / dying dogs, have all of your vets do end of life compassion training because it really does matter SO much for the families of beloved pets.

Absolute drop in quality of service. I took my dog in for surgery, he has not eaten for over 5 days post surgery, which I took him in for a check on his health as I was scared for his health (keep in mind I called for advice after a day of my dog not eating). The advice I received was to buy him roast chicken? Are you serious? Other vets told me that it was a serious issue if your pet hasn't eaten in 2 days post surgery, let alone have gone almost a week without eating. Absolute disgrace of a vet. I have been a loyal client for over 10 years but you have lost my trust with your unprofessional opinion. I am no longer your customer. Edit: My dog passed away several days after this post. The surgery went horrible, the stitching became infected and he is no longer with me. Take their advice with a grain of salt, listen to your gut over their opinions. We just moved into the area and were looking for a vet for our new Australian Shepherd puppy who seemed a bit off. Luckily we found these guys. Within a few minutes of our appointment, the vet had found something that didn't feel right inside his tummy. She consulted with the other on duty vet prior to ordering an X-ray who agreed and we went ahead. The X-ray found our puppy had ingested some rocks and needed emergency surgery. He's on the road to recovery now but Hobsons Bay Veterinary Clinic has been great to deal with - they always try to squeeze you in if something is urgent and they are so caring. Even if we moved away from the area, we'd travel to come to this clinic. Erlich says thank you!

We have been going to this very for 7 years since Reuben went there for puppy school. We have since moved out of this area but we still go back to this vet due to the accurate advice we have been given over the years. I've had friends change vets that seemed to specialise in up selling treatments that aren't required (look for the green plus logo if you want to know which chain of vet clinics are renown for upselling and catering to their shareholders instead of their customers) but at Hobson's bay we have never experienced this. In fact they often do follow up checks for free just to make sure their treatments are working.

Just wanted to leave a fantastic review to all the amazing vets and nurses at Hobsons bay Vet clinic. They saved my dog Millie last night after a ball got lodged in her airway- it was an emergency situation and their level of professional care was incredible. After they removed the ball her heart stopped beating and they performed CPR for 2 mins .We will be forever grateful for their outstanding care and compassion towards us and our gorgeous Millie in such a stressful and emotional situation. My friend was told they only dealt with desexed dogs, told us ultrasound for pregnant dog unavailable. Then to find when asking where her dog was taken- receptionist told us ultrasound??? Without owners consent!! Very traumatic for the owner, concerned about dogs general health eg: weight. To walk away $130 broker and No RESULTS BESIDES APPARENTLY 2-3 PUPPIES were spotted. 2 weeks later Shitzu had 4 pups, all healthy and well. Owner of dog called made appointment but when we got there the discussion was different to what services she expected from booking.

Moved into the area 3 years ago, and after having a fantastic vet previously, was concerned i wouldnt find another as good. Then i came across Hobsons Bay Vet Clinic and those fears were soon gone. Have been to see David, Phillipa, and Natalie and all have that care and passion that you look for, and have been fantastic with all my pets that we take there. Add to this the helpful, friendly reception staff, and a great selection of products in store, which the staff are happy to advise you on, you really can't go past this place.

The vet, Josie, was very nice investigating our kitten for any ailments. She was thorough with explaining everything and covering all the bases and possibilities. Recommended resolutions and prescribed medication, and went above and beyond being gentle and kind, all with a smile, which isn't very common these days! Front counter staff were friendly and welcoming. Miso left with a smile and a healthy recovery ahead! There's also a selection of items you can purchase such as food, toys, accessories, collars, tags, and much more!

Very nice, caring staff, looked at a baby bird that my cat had caught - free of charge, giving me all the right advice on how to release it. When I found the bird it looked like it was dead but thanks to the great advice from a lovely girl at this vet, I was able to help him regain his strength and he later flew off to rejoin his family in the trees. The guidance they gave me was spot on!

Took our dog there with a cough after being looked after at Hairy Hounds for 10 days. Easy diagnosis and good service but very disappointed with the cost of generic meds they provided for his treatment. Online cost about $8.50 but they charged $56.00 which I consider price gouging because they could buy them cheaper than me thru their suppliers and. Such a big markup doesn’t seem right.

David, the owner, is easily the best vet I’ve ever been to and I’ve had 4 of my own dogs over 18 years and lots of need to visit vets! He is clear and easy to understand and extremely supportive. My dogs have come out of multiple operations and recovered quickly with his expertise. I am deeply grateful for the service and care especially around the passing of one of my dogs.

Had to come here a couple of times recently as our usual vet is on the other side of town. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and compassionate. We had to put our rabbit down recently, and they stepped us through in a very understanding way. One great thing they did was settle the bill in the room, instead of us having to pay it in the waiting area whilst we were crying.

Duty for care zero. Recently our dog had an operation for kidney stones. Follow up consultation all about more money $ without investigating why our dog is in an emancipated condition. I called for support and was advised Hobsons Bay clinic is too busy and was advised to take our dog to another emergency vet in Kensington. No support on offer for a very sick animal

Great service! Friendly staff and they really cared for our AmStaff Pablo when he was there for desexing and again when he decided to escape our property and someone luckily took him there...They called me straight away and told me he was there 'visiting' them and no rush to fetch him because he was totally at ease with the ladies. Great job, highly recommend them!

Best veterinary clinic! Vet doctors and nurses that genuinely care about animals (pets and wild). They keep up with the latest and greatest information in veterinary science which is evident in their work and they share in a comprehensible form to pet owners. They have always guided us based on what is best for Hendrix. Thank you for being such an amazing team.

While the vets have been fine, one thing that I have noticed is the vet practice is dirty. Always grubby in all different areas even in the back where they do operations. Due to moving we have been at a few vets all over the country and this is the dirtiest one I have seen. There is no excuse no matter how busy. Cleanliness is paramount when treating animals.

What a caring vet this is, I think I am going to make this my dogs new vet. I turned up with an injured Rainbow Lorikeet that I found on the road that was in danger of being run over, took it here and they were wonderful. They saved the bird, and he/she will be released back into the wild. Thank you from me and my son who rescued the bird...

Our pup Bailey has always been taken great care of by the team. We trust she is in good hands and find it funny that she seems to be excited to get in the door. The girls on the front desk always answer my random questions when I call to panic about something probably harmless related to our dog. Highly recommend this veterinary clinic.

Friendly and helpful staff, honest prices. Flexible pick-up hours. Not being happy with my local vet, we shopped around for some pricing on tooth extractions. Not only was the price cheaper, but the staff were extremely helpful and efficient. They took really good care of my dog and looked after me as a customer. Just found my new vet!

Big Hearts. The staff here made what was the hardest decision of my life, into a beautiful final memory with my best mate. They showed such compassion while helping us through an extremely emotion event. We were given all the time we needed to say our goodbyes.and I could not have asked for any better service and professionalism.

We’ve been to a few vets in the area until we found this one. Lovely staff, and practitioners, very thorough, professional and caring of their patients. We have moved out of the area but continue to take our dog here because we haven’t found a vet that offers the same high level of care and service. Would highly recommend.

Dr David Elliot was so gentle and empathetic with our chicken who was put down this morning. We were impressed by his thorough examination of her, including tests that other vets hadn't performed. He calmly explained his assessment, told us our options and supported our decision. Very impressed by him.

Saved my rabbits life! Did emergency surgery after hours and the vet nurse took her home to monitor her that night. Would have easily cost me double elsewhere. The staff really do care about all animals well being and are very understanding of the owners too.

We have 2 dogs - an 11 year old greyhound and a 5 year old Bull Terrier. This clinic is always our first port of call during standard hours. When they think it necessary they will refer on to Advanced Vet Care in Kensington. We could not be more satisfied.

Extremely rude and pushy. Very abrupt and abrasive dealing with customers with sick / dying pets. Not compassionate at all. Clearly only care about getting money out of you. Will never be going here again and highly recommend not taking your pets here.

I bought my dog here after she received sub-standard care at another vet clinic. Hobson's bay staff were all very thorough, caring and friendly. They helped my pup recover from what was becoming a chronic condition. Happy pup and very satisfied owner.

I get on very well with the veterinary staff and the desk staff at Hobsons Bay Vets, especially Eddie the concierge. I appreciate the difficult role they sometimes have to perform. They communicate well and treat our pets with compassion.

Pip, David, Gretchen and the team are amazing with our boston terrier who is a regular visitor to the clinic. They are always responsive, caring & friendly in treating our dog and dealing with our anxieties.

ALL the staff ,are fantastic from the Vet Nurses to Vets .We have had two dogs taken care by them over the years till they were old 16 +17 and had their time. And now there with our new little Pup ..

Pretty expensive, $900 for a teeth clean on a dog and removal of 3 teeth, which apparently were easily removed. Also dog returned with feaces smeared into fur.

Knowledgeable and caring staff. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. We’ve trusted them with three of our dogs and wouldn’t hesitate recommending them.
