Love this church ⛪️ LOVE IT! Pastor Gregg is young, energetic, clear. Furthermore and most importantly, he really teaches you the Gospel as it is. He has series and now we are learning the series of Skeptics. It has been awesome, we can use so much of the information we heard, with ppl that are skeptics and non believers. Love it!! He shows us what good or bad can brings us. He talks about all the beautiful things and gifts and sacrifices Jesus did for us and for our sins, but, he also talks about our nation problems such abortion, homosexuality, gay marriage, therefore, he’s not a lukewarm pastor, only preaching what people would like to hear, he preaches what we need to hear, even if is hard to hear. No PC here, he teaches us true Gospel. He also make us participate in each service, we write messages every Sunday because he makes us fill cards with the information/message his giving us that day. It is very scholarly, he’s a teacher and I really love his preachings and lessons. Another thing is that, what he preaches, he does and now he’s in sabbatical, and he was preaching about taking our time with God, Our of work, but just with God. Something I’ve never seen in a Christian church Last Sunday, we all pray in our knees, all the church in our knees...wow. This is amazing, I didn’t see that before (except for catholic rituals and muslims). Everybody in our knees, praying for our country, we also pray for our leaders, we pray for different events. It’s just awesome we all do that in a regular Sunday service, everybody praying a common cause. If you are searching for the Gospel, the Gospel of the Bible, this is the place. Members are so passionate in this church, and the children participate all the time, singing and sometimes in prayers, and you can see how much they love God. I’m so Happy and Bless I found this amazing and beautiful church and I’m planning to become a member. Love it!

I'm rating this a 5 star because we were greeted the best here. When we visited the Cypress campus, which was closer to where we live, no one bothered to greet us at all. They were all about what they were doing with folks they were talking to. I went with my son to ask for help at one of the stations, and we were shunned. We went to another station where another person jumped in front of us, and as we waited to get help and some directions, they never acknowledged us the entire time we were standing there. We had to walk around to actually find the sanctuary. One person near the sanctuary said hello and then handed me what looked to be a bulletin of sorts. As for the other stations there where we walked to, NO ONE offered to ask us if we needed help, NOTHING. VERY DISAPPOINTING. However, at the Katy Freeway location, my son and I received welcomes in both the parking lot and help parking. Once we parked, the parking attendees greeted us openly. As we approached the front doors at the Katy Freeway location, again, we were greeted openly by those standing in the doors. No church is perfect, but I expect better than what we received from the Cypress campus. They would have gotten 0 stars.

I'm writing this as a five star because the Katy freeway location greeted us not only in the parking lot, but also coming in through their doors. Cypress location was anything but. They did not greet us; they did not do anything. When my son and I got to the Cypress location, we had to find for ourselves where the Worship Center was. One person gave us a little bulletin of some sorts and said hello that was the only greeting we had. When Services was over, I had questions I wanted to ask. I went to two different stations to get help and the persons standing at the counter we're in conversations with friends they knew. I went to a different counter to get help and someone ran in front of me to the person who was available to speak to. Then they got into a long conversation. I stood for 5 minutes waiting for help and got none when I was there. I can say that this nearly deterred me from going back to any location. But I decided to check out the Katy Freeway location and I was pleased with the reception that my son and I received. I can only hope that up on our next visit the same reception will be administered.

I LOVE this church and everything it has to offer. My family attended a different church for years previously, then begun visiting different churches, but we never felt like we really fit there and felt so much like an "outcast" and they never felt like a good fit. We decided to try Houston's First (main campus) and never stopped going! This church has a group FOR EVERYONE. Literally, everyone. Are you struggling with a problem? There is a group for it! Are you divorced, a single parent, changing your life after a lifetime of living the wrong way, a recovered addict, or even a blended family and haven't been able to meet others who you feel are like you? Please try this church!! If there's one thing that I cannot express enough to people it is the IMPORTANCE of CONNECTING with a group! This is how you plant your roots. Pastor Gregg speaks the truth, the worship music is great. Also, do you have kids? This place is one of the best decisions you can make for their lives. Their children's ministry is amazing and I've never seen anything like it. Great church, great people, great messages.

Dangerous place to worship, in my personal opinion. We attended a concert, but their assigned seating had us packed in like sardines in a crowd not wearing masks. We left our assigned seats as soon as we could, to sit waaaaaaaaay far from others, and I hope and pray it was soon enough to avoid infection. The last straw was when it turned into a sing-along, seemingly just to shed even more virus into the air. Now we have to worry for the next two weeks that we didn't move elsewhere early enough to avoid a particularly unpleasant way to die. Aside from fearing for our very lives, the concert was nice. Very well done. If they had followed safety protocols, it would have been perfect. Church leadership has done a literally grave disservice to the congregation, in my personal opinion.

Visited this church's recreation and fitness center for a birthday party. Nice, clean facility with lots of space. The children's area was a good indoor playground, nothing fancy, but indoor fun for kids is always fine with me. The parking lot was clean of litter and not too busy early afternoon on a Sunday which was surprising. The only thing I think that could be improved is the fact that the stairs to reach the top of the fitness center is on the middle of the kids area and says, no kids upstairs. That was a little strange for me because every kid I know is curious and all it takes is a second and they'd be upstairs. Thankfully, I kept my eyes on my little ones, but I know everyone isn't as mindful.

Really wanted to love it. I had my daughters party here, she has autism and cerebral palsy so 75% of the party was special needs. We were told things would be sanitized before hand but people were sitting on top of everything up until the minute our party started. There was also a terrible leak in the bowling room and noone came to do anything about it the entire time of the party there was water all over the floor with kids using equipment for walking.Definitely not worth the 250.00 we spent to have a party there. Noone ever checked to see about our experience or even offered an apology for the terrible water leak. Emailed the person who I dealt with from the beginning and never got a response back.

It is 9/5/2021 and I am not sure what the new exec pastor Dr. Stephen Trammell ate for breakfast. He must of ate his wheaties. I been a legit follower of Jesus for about 12 years off and on. Heard thousands of sermons thousands of times probably. That was probably hands down one of the best most authentic sermons I ever heard in my life. He didn't just do an exegesis he shared his life. Isn't that what preaching is about? Sharing not only Gods word, but the impact and your life. Its remarkably beautiful. Been coming here for only about 6 months and Greg Matte is a perfect example of what it means to be Jesus if his leadership is producing this kind of phenomenal preachers.

Although I have been a member at First for years now, the thing that initially drew me in was the warmth of the people and the unapologetic way that Pastor Gregg delivers the truth of the Bible...so refreshing! The early service at 9:15 is good for those looking for something more traditional or the 11am or evening services for a more contemporary vibe/music. For newcomers, it is important to note that parking often gets packed, but there is a specific parking lot just for 1st-time visitors...and you can always follow the signs to the overflow parking at the parking garage just south of the church or at the Marq-ee, which had shuttle service to/from church.

  • Reese McWilliams

Probably THE best church you could ever go to. Pastor Gregg preaches in the best way possible and the singers, orchestra, band, choir, kids choir, and the student choir are absolutely AMAZING. The special needs ministry is awesome. So is the kids ministry and the student ministry. There's a spot for everyone of every kind in the church and I and my friends and family have learned SO Much about the Bible and God. They support so many families and people all over the world through missions and giving. They have never and never will turn(ed) anyone down. This church is a big part of my family! This is THE best church for anyone.

  • arcansawgal

Enjoy this church and enjoy the Bible study class I am in. The women are caring and truly Christian women. The church itself does not stay within the four walls, it goes out and ministers and missions to other parts of the world . They are also were a big part, as other churches were in town, in the aftermath of the hurricane . The service is a Bible teaching service, as it should be. We go to the second service. I do not care for the music. It is what you hear on Christian radio therefore it is very repetitive. Yes, you are to sing praises to the Lord. But I wish there was more concentration on the actual Bible teaching.

  • angela bynum

My mom attended this church from 1986 till 2020 when she no longer had a way to get to church. She has dementia and I am her only child taking care of her and trying to make a living. I have sent two prayer requests via facebook messenger and both have been ignored. I am very disappointed in this and we will no longer be watching sunday services. This church is for the rich folks and have no interest in praying or at least acknowledging a message without they are able to feed their ego and boast about all they are doing while the less important in their church are ignored.

  • Nitaya Luu

Pastor Gregg and Dr. David Self and their staff are loved by the church members. We have been attending this church for 14 years now, we have been taught Christian principles, live Bible Study is very informative and useful. Over the years, we were taught a strong core of Christian faith. When you find a genuine church, you will be able to spot a counterfeit one easily. This is a must attend church. Thank you Lord for the church and the body of Christ at HFBC.

  • Victor H Santillan

I'm not a Baptist but we went there to have a birthday party at a place they rent out inside their Pavilion and that place was outstanding we had the place we had the party and a place where the kids can play and everything was indoor and the air conditioner was great it was probably a little pricey I'm sure I was in the person peeing but it was nice they are very strict with their time reservations they expect you to get out of the place when your time is up

  • David Templeton

Houston's First Baptist is an amazing church that goes beyond the stereotype of mega-churches. It truly feels like a family, with numerous opportunities for kids and various ways to serve. With over thirty Bible groups, you can find the perfect fit for your spiritual growth. Personally, I love the Catacombs Life Bible Study, where we have a blast breaking down the Word and supporting each other through prayers throughout the week. Highly recommended!

  • Charleston Burks

I am making this my Church home. Greg makes everything about Jesus, the way it should be. I liked everything about it and you have a great sense of security knowing that you're worshiping with Christians alike. (edit) I reside in Michigan now but I very much consider this my church home still and Pastor Greg is still awesome and the friends I made, I'm happy that they've grown and gotten married, children, new careers, ect... God is good.

  • TracyAnnMcCurry #CoffeeWithKevin

I went earlier for first service because I wanted to sit near the front. The music, praise and worship was special. Loved this big choir too. The message of FAITH was awesome, sat through another service right afterwards to sing with the congregation more. I look forward to working in Houston more often! Thank you Pastor, and thank you Minister Tim Young. I appreciate y'all! I'll be back Lord willing soon.

  • Evan C

I attended this church with my partner and his mom for Mother's Day. I was expecting a simple Mother's Day message, but instead heard a decisive, political sermon that projected an "us versus them" mentality to the congregation. There was even a portion of the sermon where this pastor flat out said that Christians shouldn't be friends with atheists. I hope to never go there again.

  • Rudolph “The World Inspector”

This is simply one of the best churches in the Houston area. Orthodox to scripture yet makes people from all backgrounds feel comfortable. Strong in the faith yet humble enough to be relatable. The pastor has a long track record of godly living. The only complaint would be traffic and parking, but hey thats a good problem to have. Try to get early on Sundays for beat parking.

  • Henry Ogbalor

Beautiful place with loads of games for adults and kids. I just hope the management will look into some of the equipment's such as the ping pong bats that are old, thus the pads are peeling off and also the pool table needs a lil touch of love, we couldn't find the chalk for our cue stick nor the powder . Additional plus is that there is security and loads of parking.

  • Hurley Carpenter

Using a supposedly spiritual place to push divisive political propaganda all while enjoying tax exempt status. Went today and they were actually passing out fliers listing talking points from Fox News. People have the freedom to believe what they wish; however, this is not the proper place to feed the fires of political discord.

  • Deborah Somoye

Do you know there is a school in here too?yea, a chapel and a school on the side “First Baptist Academy “yea.... it’s beautiful, organized and colorful.it’s a peaceful environment, neat and have a lot of parking space.mask required and sanitizer at door to keep everyone safe.you might want to have a look yourself. …

  • Phillip Christopherson

We threw our son a birthday party here and it was so much fun! We had a nice big room to set up in and a bouncy house was blown up for the kids. It had everything, bowling lanes just for us, pool tables and an indoor playground. It was not expensive either. I highly recommend throwing any kind of party here for kids.

  • Kasey Wickens

This is a church that believes in young adults! I'm so grateful for the community i found here. There are so few young, singles, Christian groups in Houston, but this one is great! I go to a bible study called Lighthouse on Sunday nights at 6:30pm and I highly recommend it to anyone between the ages 21-26. :)

  • Michael Detana

One of the best churches in the whole city and I’ve been to many. This church has something going on all of the time. They do a great job with making a big church feel small (community). Amazing work around the world. World class facilities for all ages. Good food. Oh and they love Jesus and preach the word!

  • M M

Highly recommend the classes before service followed by the larger service. Overall amazing biblical place full of people who will LOVE and care for you right where you are in your life. Bring your true self and let the Lord meet you where you are at. Also has a wonderful coffee bar and Christian book store!

  • Andre Eusebio

Very nice church to come to. The staff is always courteous and helpful, the facility is ALWAYS neat & clean, there's lots of bible study groups, service is always a great experience. It's just a comfortable atmosphere to be in. Hear the word of God, and have fun doing it. VERY highly recommended to visit.

  • Mia Kromer

I go to church every Sunday and Wednesday and even got baptized last weekend there. I have learned so much more about God and have built a stronger relationship with him and love the style and the music. I am apart of the middle and high school choir and going to be apart of celebration over Christmas. :)

  • Christopher Ray

Pastor Greg it's been a few years since I attended your sermons, I tag along with Wiley. I enjoy the music, your sermons and the IMAX effect I get when in attendance. I have a problem I would like to bring to your attention again. Once did in a prayer request. Can I meet with you in person sometime soon?

  • Megan Kamp

I found the people to be friendly, accepting, sincere, and intelligent. I really enjoy my experiences with this great group. The office hours can be odd but I always get a prompt phone call back if I leave a message. Really enjoy the openness and being able to go through life with these people.

  • D Sin

Excellent service, friendly staff the seating is set every other row and people are social distancing correctly. The music and sermons are great though I felt uncomfortable when certain individuals decided to unmask when singing along with praise songs. Other than that very good facility.

  • Alexander Campbell

Very good church. Pastor Greg knows his scripture and doesn't pick and choose sugar coated passages. He answers difficult questions in a well educated and confident way. The church is large and very welcoming and has numerous studies and activities for anyone looking to participate.

  • Chris H

Love this church! People are down to earth and friendly. I like that they have a lot of opportunities to serve people all over Houston. I have also really liked the small classes that I have attended. They make a large church feel small. It's nice to be a part of a community.

  • Taylor Brione Ballard

This is a really beautiful church high tech and very modern. Everyone is pretty nice here and the church makes it easy for first time visitors, offering shuttle parking and greeters. I don't really like the atmosphere or the music style, but the lesson is really good.

  • Glenda Beall

Josh Bolin, the church orchestra, and the amazing choir usher the congregation into the throne room of God every Sunday morning. The praise and worship is powerful and heartfelt every Sunday. Pastor Greg's messages help me to connect God's word to everyday life.

  • Paeton Wooden

The special needs ministry is second to none. The children's ministry- from babies to teens- is 2nd to none. The music ministry- teens, choir, band, orchestra- 2nd to none. The pastor and the staff- 2nd to none. If you've been looking for a church- look no more.

  • Andrew Colvin Jr.

ALMIGHTY GOD regularly does a miracle at this church. The miracle is that the pastor manages to make the church "seeker of the truth" friendly without compromising The Word of God. However far you have to drive to get here, it's well worth the trip.

  • Juanita Irene Barnes

This has become my family! There is so much love to share here, both horizontally with your neighbor and vertically with our Father, that you will sense God's Holy Spirit alive and well among us, working powerfully to comfort and sustain us.
