In my opinion, one of the most disorganized schools I've ever seen! Although some of the student bodies in this campus may be over exaggerating the problems in this school, the problems are still there. This school has already drained out any hope for an acceptably organized school system for most of my peer. Every SINGLE YEAR! They have to adjust their pathetic excuse of a schedule to fix problems that should had already been thought out and FIXED. Instead they make more problems with their schedules which have the outcome of more regulations that do more harm than good. If they expect anyone to take this school seriously, they need to allow as much refining to artistic areas as POSSIBLE. Moreover CLEANING THIS SCHOOL! Who in their right mind would bring their kid to this school if they even glance at that ground on a clear well lit day?! I still recommend any student who is serious about the magnet program to come by and see but I'm not making any false promises. The academic aspect in this school is okay at best and the magnet program has their moments. If you're fine with a disorganized school and not the cleanest environment then this school might be for you. I don't hate this school but the problems here do appear to be widely ignored and if they are not ignoring these problems, it obvious to say they need to fire some of the administration for the benefit of this school or use the budget on more important things such as maintaining. As sad as it seems, this school appears to be a dying school. Teachers are getting sick of Blake and are leaving. Also lets not forget, as the years pass this school appears to be getting worse. In Academics, Food, Environment and most importantly motivation.

From a previous student: --Once was asked to do a mural as a Freshman in the art department (offered $200 on completion). Told to buy the paint herself, then that paint was given to Seniors to do other murals and given the leftovers to work with (which were messy and not well taken care of). Told if she wanted more paint she would have to buy more herself. Then told what to draw; when it didn't come out the way they liked it, was told to paint something else. This went on for 4 years until she was like "f you I'm not being jerked around anymore". Then told: "Well you could at least buy the paint to cover up the old mural." --Girls being sexually harassed by boys, told by teachers "They are just expressing themselves!" or "We don't need an incident." --feels like a prison; someone gets tased every day --yes the magnet kids go to the same classes as the non-magnet kids. --Constantly no budget for supplies --One new English teacher who actually could teach was fired due to budget cuts, replaced by a teacher who had been there longer but could not teach; constantly misspelled words, got stuff wrong, had to be corrected. Obviously we did not learn English in this class. A few friends of ours taught the other kids English and tutored them because the teacher was so bad. --Decided to quit art program and told I was not a "real artist" even though I decided to go into cancer research instead. Looked down on after that. Culturally, we learned a lot more on how to be street smart. Also liked the black kids more because the white/magnet kids were all spoiled rich kids who got away with everything.

I attend Howard W. Blake High School of the Performing Arts as a piano major, and the administration is very strict and un-trusting with the student body, which keeps students from expanding on their talents; the administration is so strict that they prevent students from practicing during lunchtime. Isn't that why we're attending on arts school? To better our craft? Anyway, with academic teachers who don't know how to teach patiently and coherently, students don't learn much to begin with. All in all, going to this school will not reap any student educational benefits in the performing arts nor in core academics. It is pointless -- pointlessly stressful, pointlessly frustrating.

It is a really good place if you have grown up in that area. But there are few things that i would change about it 1.)It is kinda dirty 2.) Some of the teacher are rude and dont wanna give you the time of day to listen to anything a student says.Other than that it is very good school id recommend to friends. :D :P :3

I went to Blake for 3 years until I absolutely couldn't take it anymore. The lack of care from administration was disgusting! An illegal form of bullying was taking place and the administration did nothing until legal action was threatened. If I could give 0 stars I would.

Best school I've ever been to. I've never been to a magnet school before but I'm so glad I did with Blake. Super friendly environment, most AP classes available in the county, but most of all incredible arts program.

I’ve only been here two years and I hate it! Administration has horrible punishment for misbehaving kids. Kids in general are so mean to each other including the teachers I would recommend this school

Great school and it's really musical. I haven't gotten in but my boyfriend did and he absolutely loves it. I've seen it and met the teachers and I really like it.

HWB has an amazing arts program, but other than the arts program, the school is kind of dirty and unorganized. I wish it could stay clean for at least a day.
