Thank you so much for making me wait over 2 hours to still not even have my food ready. I wanted Chinese on Christmas so I knew it would be busy, but this place was a disaster. Placed an order on THEIR website (trying to save them money and cut out the third party) at 6:12pm. I was told my order would be confirmed via email. I checked my email for over 40 minutes and called multiple times to receive only a busy tone thinking surely they are closed. Start looking to order from elsewhere when finally at 7:02 I receive confirmation but with no pick up time or estimate (I chose ASAP.) I took my time heading over there and got there around 7:20. The place was packed with angry Uber eats drivers who were losing money and had been apparently waiting hours for the orders they had to deliver. I agreed that a wait is understandable but fine. Waited until 8:35 when finally I tried calling again since the staff were ignoring anyone waiting inside. I was told their “system crashed” and my order wasn’t placed until 7:45, so it would still be another hour, to which the person answering the phone laughed at (pushing dinner until at least 9:30pm.) What an incompetent restaurant- I canceled my order and they made no attempt to remedy this situation. Go elsewhere if you actually want to have your food in the same evening you order it. Update- they still had the nerve to charge my credit card despite my calling and canceling the order.

Parking
Parking is a problem in whole DC. Since this restaurant is located very central, close to congress, it is difficult to find a free spot to park. However if you take around 15 minutes time, you can find the spot to park, in the neighbourhood.
Kid-friendliness
I would say, it is kid friendly place.

I ordered a qt of Wonton soup, asked if they had Wonton Egg Drop, was told No. They however also have Egg Drop. (Smh) However when I got back to my hotel room. The Wonton soup was so salty, tasted like I was drinking Ocean Water. Completely unconsumable from the amount of salt. Besides the fact, there were no greens or pork in the soup at all, besides costing $9.00. There was only about 6 small Wontons. Basically a qt of salt water. I've passed the front of this establishment several times looks very deceiving from the outside, almost like a shady massage parlor. The restaurant is on the second floor. Once ordered, I was told it would be a 10 minute wait for a qt of soup, place was empty. Then told to have a seat and wait after driving for the past 12 hours... Tried once not again.

  • No one really matters, but cats

How disappointing.. I enjoyed the egg rolls, the hot and sour soup (which had some good kick to it), it was the best hot and sour soup, I've ever had..THEN, I got to my general Tsao's chicken and general Tsao's shrimp. IT DID NOT EVEN MAKE SENSE HOW HOT THAT WAS, why would anyone make food that hot. I had to throw both of those dinners away. I eat hot, even suicide wing hot food all the time. This stuff was the hottest thing I've ever put in my mouth. Tears literally started rolling down my face, as a reflex to the heat.. I don't know what Chef they had cooking that dish tonight, but they need a talking to for serving food that spicy..no one would expect General Tsao's chicken and shrimp to be that hot, I was expecting spicy, like the hot and sour soup..

After months of searching for an old-school comfortable Chinese restaurant in the DMV (and trying some wonderful suggestions), I am concluding that HUNAN DYNASTY is exactly that! It has the perfect combination of a beautiful fish tank, decorations that haven’t been changed since what must be the 1990s, signed photos of senators who visit on the wall, and tasty Chinese food (think quintessential Chinese takeout rather than Dim Sum or traditional Chinese). It has been relatively empty these days as they just reopened for dine-in, but if you are ever in the area in need of some chinese food in a quiet, old-school atmosphere—this is the place! For those of you who are interested in my favorite places for more traditional Chinese food, check out Mark’s Duck House (Cantonese Dim Sum), and A&J Restaurant (Northern Chinese Dim Sum).

General Tso chicken not spicy. It’s sweet. I asked for spicy general tso with sesame on top. Before leaving I check the receipt says Sesame Chicken Spicy. I’ve known other restaurants where it’s much more of a difference between the two dishes. I asked, to be clear about this. I asked about the veggies. They said only broccoli. It came with 2 tiny pieces of broccoli garnish. Way too saucy too. Like yuck. I didn’t check before I left. I wanted to be surprised. I guess my complaint is they gave me the wrong order? Idk. Worst Xmas dinner ever. Worst part is that it was the owner that did me like this. Broccoli cooked perfect. Rice is good. Very nice staff

This restaurant didn’t look that inviting from the front and I wasn’t sure about going upstairs to get to it, but it was amazing! The service was excellent…very fast & attentive…and the food was delicious. We shared a bowl of hot & sour soup and the cucumber salad to start with and then ordered 2 main dishes. The Thai noodles & the triple something were our main dishes and they were very tasty! The plates were a good size too!! My husband & I highly recommend this restaurant…he wants to go back for lunch tomorrow before we fly back to the west coast

We ended up here after discovering the kor-mex place a couple places up was only open until 6 on Saturday. Restaurant located on the 2cd floor, entrance has all the hall of infamy politician photos that have ate there. We ordered sczezuan chicken stone bowls, pork dumplings, andbang bang shrimp. The prices were pretty reasonable for D.C. and we enjoyed the food, even had enough for 2 containers to bring home which we ended up giving to homeless along the way. Overall great value, highly recommend.

A truly pleasurable experience. Food made my soul happy it was so good. Beef Lo mein, Crab Rangoon and Sesame Chicken. Beef was super tender and noodles perfectly cooked, Sesame chicken was soft but crispy not a hard piece on the plate. Crab Rangoon was hot and crispy. This is a must visit while in DC!! You never know who you might run into sitting one table away was Senator Bernie Sanders.

We came here on an early Wednesday evening and where almost alone in the restaurant. The entrance downstairs isn’t much but when entering the restaurant on the first floor it is very welcoming. The food is excellent. I had fried rice withe combination of chicken, beef and shrimp and is was very good and to much. My wife had fried noodles with vegetables and that tasted also very good and my finished a little more then have of the dish. We recommend this restaurant to everyone who like Chinese food.

I had a dinner party there yesterday. The service sucks the food sucked. They charge me 300 something, Dollars and then on top of it all, we all woke up the next morning with stomach aches from the food I recommend you don't go there. I should have new that it wasn't a good idea because no one else was there buy my family and friends in one room but other than that only people who was there was the people who work there in the hold restaurant

Mid week experience in the evening, no one there but plenty of takeout orders waiting for pickup. My personal experience was great. Awesome tea before dinner, I ordered triple meat special fried rice, and my partner and I shared fried wings with mombo sauce... all delicious, and I know my partner rated his choice for dinner a 5 star. Definitely recommended!

We have been trying to find a solid Chinese place in NE - we were city lights believers before. Hunan was very solid - we will most likely be back. Fried rice was flavorful, pork didn't taste weird, general TSOs was solid as well, highlight cream cheese wontons - no crab - amazing. Everyone knows the crab makes it worse. The beef chow fun was also good, beef was flavorful and noodles saucy.

I thought this place was nice. It was cheap for DC and I was able to find parking right around the corner. I ordered basic stuff such as egg rolls and General Tso's chicken as well as a crispy chicken dish on a Monday afternoon and I heard them start the order immediately after it was placed and the food was out before I knew it. The portions were healthy and I enjoyed what I ate. I will return next time I travel to DC.

Combo lomein, shrimp egg roll, hot and sour soup. Placed an order for pickup it was ready in ten minutes, food was hot, fresh and delicious. So happy to have a new takeout spot. Edit: they deliver locally. Even tho I am exactly two miles away he still did it for me. For the second time now food was hot and fresh and fast. So happy to have a local takeout spot I can rely on.

Visited this place because of the good reviews but wasn't as impressed. The food was alright. Quantity as fine too. It did not appeal to me as someone who's not acquainted with the Chinese food in the US. Maybe it's just me. If you're Indian. You might not like the taste.

To eat in this restaurant, you will have to go up more than 20 steps. It's not advisable for old and those who have knee problems. Service is bad , the waitress is hurrying us to give our orders, cutlery are not clean, not helpful with the menus. The food sucks, its salty and meat not tender. The food is pricy as well.

So far the best Chinese food I've had on the East Coast. We had the Szechuan Chili Pork and Sweet and Sour Chicken. The pork was expertly seasoned and came in a fantastic broth. The chicken was night and lightly breaded. We also had gyoza and egg rolls for appetizers - the gyoza was better. 10/10 recommend

Finally got take out from here after living around the block for 4 years and I don't know what took us so long! We ordered General Tso's Eggplant and the Fish Fillet with Spicy Sauce (in Chef's Specials) and both were delicious, but especially the fish! The dried peppers really made the dish. I'll definitely be going back soon.

I really like the food here, sushi is big and really good than other places also I'm unsatisfied often with the service, special the Chinese men, one time I order lunch special and he charged dinner time, other time I went with a Chinese friend who tood me the don't have anything in the traditional chine food and he was rude with her, anyway if you don't care the service the food is good.

Fantastic place for simple yet delicious food. Was initially going to order off of UberEats but the restaurant's own delivery was faster, cheaper and it supports their business more. Recommend you get takeout from here and do the same, you won't be disappointed.

My first time eating here -i ordered to go. The food was very hot and tasted fresh! Flavor wasn’t bad. Portion was nice. Friendly staff. My only complaint is that they don’t put napkins, plastic ware or condiments in the bag. Luckily I was going home and keep my own stash but that was a little annoying. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my food and will patronize this business again!

  • Sabrathia Draine

I ordered shrimp fried rice, wontons, paid Thai shrimp and spring rolls. The pickup service was quick and safe. The owners were friendly and helpful. The servings were large. The flavors were less than mediocre. There were lots of pictures of senators and famous people on the restaurant walls, and the reviews were great but the food was not delicious.

  • Angela Lee

I never thought this place would be so good. I m surprised that not a lot of people are around. The food is really authentic and the most important thing is, its soooo cheap. You can have General Taos chicken for no more than 6 dollars. And it tastes sooo good. Anyway, if you happen to go to capital hill, you should definitely go there!
