I've been an avid collector of assorted items, mostly comic books and printed publications from Marvel and DC and other misc. ( Frank Miller ) since the age of 9 in the borough of Bklyn. Since 1993 I have been residing in Staten Island. I'm still an occasional collector of specific items, mostly from Frank Miller ( Sin City ...Hard Boiled). 90% of these purchases are from JHU Comics, owned by Nick. I have been making these purchases since JHU has opened. Over the course of residing in SI I have spend A few thousand on collectable items. I'm moving in the next few months and wanted to sell roughly 90% of my collection. I took these back to JHU and Nick to sell at a loss. I presented to Nick and I was told he had no interest in 90% of the items even though they were purchased there at JHU Comics. I was shocked...!! He was very happy to sell these items to me at a good profit but had no interest in purchasing them back. Even if I took a hell of a loss. I think a GOOD retailer would be more than happy to purchase merchandise that he sold to me back even with me taking a considerable loss. Nick is more than Happy taking my money but returning even a very portion of that money he is unwilling to do. Wow..!! And he wants you to be a repeat costumer. Sorry..! No thank you.. Nick doesn't like to play fair at all.... His store will never see my face again... To his response: he comments that a buyer shouldn't think of a retailer as a BANK.... But..!! He does think of every buyer as a bank..!! To purchase and endless amount of comic books..Nick is FULL OF HIMSELF... He Knows The Line and What to say..Every retailer I ever dealt with over the last 50 years at most times he would act in good faith and buy back merchandise that I purchased . He may have only given back 25-30 cents on a dollar but he played fair to some extent since he would like you to be a return customer.

Went in to buy some premium Pokémon trading card boxes and at first sight everything seemed okay, but when I opened them I noticed every single pack was resealed, even the premium shining fates box had packs inside of it from a different set, every single pack was resealed and when I called to ask the owner about it he pretended like he didn’t know what I was talking about, I spent over $130 dollars for resealed merchandise, please do not go and buy any kind of cards from this store.........follow up response to the owner, the premium box was not shrink wrapped, I’ve been collecting cards for a long time, I have picture evidence as well boss man, the shining fates premium box that I purchased today had champions path packs inside of them, do not try to play any games to cover yourself and your store. The boxes were clearly tampered with and when I was purchased them I gave one back because the box opened on its own without me even touching it. I could care less about what I pulled or didn’t pull, this review is about your store selling resealed products. Nice try BOSSMAN

This place is great and worth the trip no matter what part of the island you are on or further away. Huge selection, always have the latest and hottest issues plus they have a great pull program and can order you exactly what you want in either single issues or subscriptions. The store is always clean, organized and easy to travel through. The sales staff are always friendly, very knowledgeable, make you feel welcome, bend over backwards for their customers and will never pressure you to buy. It’s now more important than ever that we support our local comic book shops and I promise you JHU will reward your continued patronage with the ideal local comic book shop experience. Stop in, make a purchase and see exactly what I mean.

This place is very cool and is filled with many comics. The staff there are friendly and offers assistance if you need help. I came there to buy some mangas even though there were not that many. I found some hidden gems that people have not bought yet and it is a huge steal. Also, there is also a place where people play trading card games like Magic and Yu-gi-oh!. I shall come again. Pricing is fair, not really that expensive except for some huge omnibus books and a handful of classic comics. I give this place a 5/5. I recommend coming to this place and bringing your friends over to chill. :)

Friendly staff, more than accommodating atmosphere, place to practice trading card games. Play area is small with only two tables, but it makes up for it with the vast amount of comic selection as it is a comic book Shop first. They have a variety of items that any enthusiast will enjoy. Stop by or call ahead and you will be greeted with the same unwavering friendliness and customer service. Parking is paid street parking available at a 2hr limit, the cost at this time is $0.25 per 12min so for $2.50 it is reasonable. Store prices seem fair and accurate.

Went to play MTG and buy some sleeves. Steve went around giving everyone a free promo card. Such a small gesture, yet it shows just how much he cares for and appreciates his patrons. Therewithal, Nick was a great assist in finding exactly what I was looking for. It's these kinds of things that create a lifelong customer. Their prices are good and they offer a vast selection of Magic: The Gathering products, Dungeons and Dragons products, and, of course, comic books on top of a myriad of other items. Couldn't ask for a better shop so close to home.

Fantastic selection of comics, graphic novels and games. This is the original location for the JHU stores. I've been going here since the 80s. Good service, clean and appealing layout for the store. They will order deliveries for pickup as requested, and still buy comics for those who have them to sell. They have a large selection for youngsters also, which is not as common in Comic book shops these days, for those who have families. Relatively easy parking and good location in the New Dorp commercial corridor.

Been coming here since I could read. 30 something years, 3 locations on New Dorp Ln. I’ve had an on/off relationship with comics and collectibles, but this store kind of set the standard for comic shops for me in terms of selection and service. Now I bring my 8 year old son here and the staff has always been friendly and patient with him, and we feel comfortable browsing around. This is an ideal example of a comic shop, and a staple on Staten Island. Thanks for sticking around and keep up the great work JHU!

Every time I go to this store, I keep getting more disinclined to return. I walk in and am immediately ignored by the staff on duty. If that happened once or twice, it wouldn't be a big deal, but every. Single. Time. And the last time I went in I was literally the only customer in the store. I just feel like they don't create as much as a welcoming atmosphere as other comic shops on the island. It's a good place to go figure out what books I might want to buy, but I usually end up buying them elsewhere.

  • Michael Losi

Great staff that is super helpful and seem to be avid readers. Always willing to chat and find whatever you need. Went out of their way to find me a back issue I was missing. Nice selection of back issues and wall books and supplies. Great selection of new titles. Everything seems priced very fairly. Shop is around a long time, you don’t last that long if you’re not doing everything right. If you visit, you wont be disappointed.

Very overpriced, outright refuse to haggle. You have a wall of books that everyone wants yet they don't sell. Take a hint. 7.0 books at 9.6 prices. People, Youre better off on eBay if you are looking for that one book. And the guy with all the tattoos and piercings. Unfriendly anytime I went in there. Ask him for help and he sighs, can't be bothered. Over all one of the worst shops in the whole city.

I've been a customer on and off here for many years, dating back to the former Merchants of Venus and Fantastic Store shops. There's usually a lot of older gems here, new items are usually in stock and if it's not there, someone will try to get it for you. A store is only as good as its employees. In recent years I've found the staff to be friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. That goes a long way.

This store is a gem! There are not too many stores like this anymore. Very retro and right here on Staten Island! The staff is very nice and personable. I am a huge Walking Dead fan and they have the comics there. It is nice to see kids interacting with each other! Plenty of events held in the store! The store reminds me of stores back in the 1980s when I was growing up! Love it.

Such a great place to have on Staten Island. Don't know of any other place around here that is truly dedicated to comics. They have so many trades that are even hard to find online. The workers have a lot of passion for and knowledge of comic books. Great environment to just explore the shelves and easy to get lost in for hours.

  • Daniel Costello

With the dwindling number of comic shops around, I feel blessed to have one so close and of such quality. The staff there are always super friendly and quick to help you find something you'll enjoy reading. They also have a game space in the back for those who wish to get some card or D&D play in. It's worth the visit!

  • frank Fontaino

I go to the JHU Staten Island location weekly to pick up my weekly pull list. They have a great selection and always have the books I need. Both Dani and Nick are great and they are always down to talk comics and help you find what you need. I've shopped in many stores across the city and this one is my favorite!

  • Nelson Montalvo

They have a decent collection of comics available. They are pretty organized with new issues. The staff is nice Cool! The part I like is they have some nice stuff for kids and also for the big kid in me lol. They sell shirts and they were even having a dungeons and dragons game going on in the back on!

  • george simon

Just recently got back into collecting comics. Wasn't sure how much had changed over the years, but the staff at JHU made me feel at ease. Super helpful, friendly and even suggested options I hadn't thought of. I've been back several times and it's a great feeling when they recognize return customers.

Walking in I instantaneously transform to my 10 yrs old self. The aroma of storytelling and art emanate from every crevice. You can smell the adventures on every wall. Step into a world of imagination and wonder. I'm thankful there exists an environment like JHU Comics. Thank me later!

  • zaza steve

When I want to go buy comics , I don't waste money at Barnes and Nobles or on Amazon instead I simply go to JHU. Each and every time I go there I feel as if I'm being treated like royalty. The serve is great ! If you want to sit down and read you're more than welcome too.

Finally got to visit this legendary comic book store. Grew up in Nyc and never had the opportunity to shop there. My first visit will not be my last. Not a HUGE selection but I really enjoyed the place. Staff was awesome. Recommended if only the great atmosphere.

  • Lloyd Jacobs

Welcoming, professional, well stocked with stories homebound and reaching to the stars. A great place to purchase comics from a local business with a history stretching back decades. I've shopped with them for years and I hope to do so till the end

  • Shawn Bumbalow

I’m not the biggest comic collector. And my knowledge is very slim-to-none. And I walked in and actually told them that. But I wanted to buy my son some “higher end” comics and the guy behind the counter ( who’s name escapes me) I believe

  • Kush Kush

OMG...a real comic book store with real knowledgeable staff. I have been to many comic book stores around east coast due to work related trips. But have not seen one like this in a long time. A comic book store MUST have 2 items to be

  • J Charles

Went there with my daughter. Very nice, helpful, knowledgeable staff. Great selection of comics and collectibles. Definitely coming back. And they didn't complain that she was looking around. (She's 11) That was a big plus in my book.

  • Rob Genca

Great store. Helpful staff. Open floor doesn't make u feel.like ur in a cave. Tons of older issues that are well.organized and awsome priced. 2nd store on the island I've been to. Defiantly better than the first. Highly recommended

  • Jason Macchia

I don’t know much about comics but every time I go here there is something happening, like a DND game in the back or MTG decks being made, the location is amazing love getting a comic then going across the street for a milk shake.

  • WuBattlescarr shogun

if i could give 20 stars i would built the majority of my back issues collection off this store. love looking through the boxes and being surprised at what i find most of the time. wish they extend their ours like they use to.

  • Nicolas Hodgens

Have been coming here for a few years now and I love it. Staff is very welcoming and always happy to help. They do not always get there single issues release day but they still have a very large selection and I love it there.

  • Andre Stuart

The staff is nice and will help you find anyrhing if you have trouble, which shouldn't happen because the comics are organized perfectly. The store is always clean and the bathroom isn't a mess and always smells clean.

  • Michael Bianco

I'm a regular at their Manhattan location but stop here occasionally. A nice store with a good selection and excellent customer service. If you're on SI and looking for comics it's definitely the place to go.

  • NY581

Cool comic book store. Only thing we do not like is the bottom shelf of comic books against the wall. They are all packed together and you cant see what comics they are.

  • Jack Fuller

Great staff! I'm not on Staten Island as often as I used to be, but I had great memories from this place. The owners are wonderful and go out of their way to help you.

  • Austin Logatto

One of the only two comic shops on the island and simply just amazing. The owners are awesome, the people who work there are awesome. Don't miss out and go to jhu

  • Retro Glasses

JHU is amazing! I go with my sister there multiple times and we have no complaints, Plus always got comic books and Pokémon cards at an amazing price! 11/10!

I love traditional comic stores so I'll always go back. Getting my favorites pulled for me so I never miss an issue is something I'm really grateful for
