The baked goods merchandised in this bakery’s display case will no doubt tantalize your senses. Speaking from experience. This was my first visit, and I knew I was in for a treat when at 10 a.m. on a Friday there was a line out the door. Lines are usually a promising sign of a good business. And the experience was worth the wait. Indeed, this bakery serves a diverse selection of upscale pastries and other gastronomic delights. On your visit you can expect to see huge cookies with eclectic and traditional flavors, croissants, scones, brioche, muffins, and more. In addition to fresh baked bread there are paninis and other sandwiches available for lunch. In spite of all that mentioned above, I have only had the Quiche of The Day. It was ham, egg, and cheddar cheese, and it was good. IMO, it would have been much better hot or at least lukewarm, but instead it was served at room temperature. The lady taking my order said they weren’t able to heat it due to COVID-19. Aside from that, good experience. The prices can be on the dear side, as in “oh dear!”. So don’t be surprised if a huge cookie or a single slice of quiche cost $6.00. All in all, 4.4 stars out of 5, or said another way, an 88 out of 100. Final thought and tip. If you’re new to the area consider walking to Alamo Square Park which is home to the iconic Painted Ladies and about an 8 minute walk south on Steiner St. That way you get a taste of a local bakery, sightsee, stretch your legs and walk off whatever calories you’ve picked up from Jane’s Bakery. Whatever your choice, I hope you enjoy. Stay safe and cheers to your next discovery.

First, the people who work there are SO KIND. It felt like I was surrounded by really good energy even though it was busyyyyyyy. On the busy note: I got there on a Saturday, mid-morning. Maybe the busiest time you could ever go LOL. So I waited in the line for about 15 minutes. It goes by pretty quickly and even more so as more bakery attendants trickle in to assist with the flow of customers. I happily waited, it gave me the utmost time to thoughtfully pick out what I really wanted and see what I could try for next time! I went two times in a weekend: the first trip I picked up the Almond Slice and a Sesame Demi Sourdough. The Almond Slice was absolutely perfect and really easy to eat. It's not too sweet, so it's a perfect coffee/tea cake. I don't normally eat sesame breads, but the Demi was delightfully savory and crispy! I love that it's a small version too because it's a great on-the-go munching bread or even a great small bread for a few sandwiches. I went back a second time to grab the Apple Tart and the Sesame Demi again because I loved it so much! The Apple Tart has a delicious, spiced spread below the glazed apple slices. The crumb was buttery and perf. Don't know how I missed this being in the area so much but I'll certainly become a familiar face!

Omg everything here is just mindblowingly amazing and the cashier's nice. ❤️ Whole wheat chocolate brownie is off the charts tasty, I always dreamt of finding a place which makes whole wheat brownies and finally my search is over, will be going back again and again to grab some ❤️ Traditional croissant was just perfect, exactly what you would expect in your croissant ❤️ Dill and cucumber tart is also amazing and dreamy, the freshness from cucumber and cream cheese adds such a soothing twist to it and add to it the stuffed caramelized onion, just loved it Visit #2 ❤️ Chocolate Bundt cake - loved it ❤️ Cauliflower chard something - tasty Multi grain vegan sandwich - it was okayish, nothing too great about it, will not buy again. Visit #3 ❤️ Chive biscuit - it's great, reminded me of a biscuit I used to eat when I was a child Visit #4 ❤️ Mediterranean turnover is really good, reminded me of the aloo patties I used to eat in India ❤️ Kale parmesan scone is great too, it has a bit of spicy tinge every now and then which is interesting Can't wait to go back and try all the other items that they have.

I’ve already been to Jane’s 4 times since the first time I went a few weeks ago and it’s amazing. I love the bustling, open kitchen vibe of the place. On weekends the line will most likely be out the door but it moves fast. They also have a few spots in the parking lot in front and several spots of cheap metered parking adjacent to their lot. They have bread, pastries, cakes, a variety of loaves, and the most amazing sandwiches made with their own bread (sandwiches made with fresh bakery bread makes a world of a difference.) Their cakes are unbelievably moist and tender, and not overly sweet. The things I’ve tried that I would recommend are: roast beef and turkey sandwiches on multigrain sliced bread, mango chicken salad on a baguette, lemon loaf (so moist and flavorful), black cocoa bundt cake, and brunch croissant (and any of their laminated pastries).

I marked this place on my Google map because rumor has it, they have the best croissant in SF. Unfortunately they sold out at 10 AM when I was there today 3 PM on the first Saturday of September, 2023. The staff said croissant sold out at 10 AM on Saturday. Even though I was disappointed, I still asked for recommendations from the staff, glad I did, because it's amazing. I have to tell you even though this is not the luxury type of cafe you expect them to be but under the unassuming store front unassuming packaging, each bite will blow your mind. So tasty. The thousand layer pie is so crunchy. And most importantly, they just know how to measure the right amount of sweetness. Now I know I have to be there around 10 AM to get the best croissant next time.

This is a diamond in the rough...tucked in an unsuspecting area letting the nose lead you in. Inside you will find a wide selection of well crafted pastries and other baked goods with offerings from sweet to savory and experimental. The interior is very functional and asthetically pleasing for its operationl prowess. Staff is extremely friendly, helpful and customer service focused. This is a bakery i will return to time and time again due to the extensive offerings all at a high level of quality and for the people who make it a pleasure to one of their customers

I came for the croissants and stayed for the mini carrot cake. The butter croissant was flaky and crunchy and soft all at the same time. I loved this croissant out of all the ones I've tried during this trip. Worth stopping off. The carrot cake is great. Perfect for a follow up breakfast item. Moist, and the icing is the perfect amount. The candy pineapple on top is nice. If you're looking for breakfast to grab and go in the area. Come over here for a stop off.

9-2-21: Heard about this place and couldn't wait to try their bread! The kouign amann was excellent. Also tried a regular croissant and it was very good. Tried 4 sandwiches: #1 was the salad which was a vegetarian with hummus, beets, radicchio + lots of other veggies. #2 was the prosciutto which had mozzarella. Tip is to add some honey to the sandwich and you get a really nice salty and sweet balance. #3 was the turkey which had a nice caramelized onions. #4 was the chicken schwarma. I also tried the buttermilk white bread and the fig walnut bread. Both were really good. Will definitely come back again for more delicious bread and treats!

What can I say about Jane that hasn’t been said? One of our all time favorites in San Francisco. Our usual orders include the lemon loaf cake, banana bread (both the vegan one and none), Vietnamese coffee pastry, all the cookies, baguettes, breads, chicken shawarma sandwiches, roast beef sandwich, any fruit pastry that they make seasonally, and then there’s the coffee and matcha drinks. Love their matcha. Staff is consistently there and so friendly and knowledgeable, the owner must be a good egg. Outside covered seating in parklets. Plus you have a nice park across the street to sit and enjoy your treasures. Love Jane!

  • Nini “Nini” Salinas

I really love this bakery! Their flat cheese bread omg is my favorite savory food they have but there are so many delicious choices it can be hard to choose from. Fresh prepped salads they make themselves for you to take to go! Pastries are a whole different level! Amazing ❤️ most of the pastries are their usuals they have everyday but they do surprise you daily with new pastries and flavors. All delicious. Their coffee is soooooo good!!! It’s not bitter, it’s just delicious. I get a café au lait usually which is half coffee and half steamed milk, delicious and perfect balance!!

What a FAB Bakery in the Western Addition on Geary. Long time SF residents will recognize it as the old KFC spot. Expect a line but know it does move fast. A few 15-minute parking spots but street parking available too, just walk the block or two. I can tell each Pastry is baked with love - crafted so perfectly. I enjoyed my sweet, savory, fruity selection of: Kouign-amann, Ham & Swiss Croissant, Raspberry Brioche. I added a wonderful cup of Matcha Latté! Jane the Bakery rekindled my mornings in Paris where I’d awake to a fresh Croissant and Latté...

I have loved everything I've tried here. My go to place for tarts for the office - mushroom gruyere tarts, cardamom buns, chocolate torte, kouign amanns, scones, etc. Also the chicken shwarma sandwich is absolutely perfect.

Jane The Bakery is my go-to place for breakfast! I can't resist their sandwich and pastries. The aroma that greets you is just a hint of the deliciousness to come. They use fresh ingredients with a balance of flavors. Their coffee is delicious. You can also order cakes from them. The staff's warm greetings and attentive service add a personal touch to every visit. I would recommend visiting this warm and cozy place for a quick bite. The price is also reasonable.

  • Kevin Davila

Tried out the Mango Chicken sandwich, didn’t like it, tasted more like chicken curry. But i really liked the bread they use at this place, fresh & toasty. They also sell pastries, like Strawberry Brioche tarts, gonna try that next time. Really friendly staff. Really clean too. The guy behind the counter recommended the tuna melt sandwich i regret not going with that choice, gonna have to go back & try that next time too.

  • Mitch Mitchell

I rarely allow myself baked goods as I try to watch the carbs. That said, Jane's really is an amazing bakery! Their quiche is excellent and I even have allowed myself one or two of their sweeter creations. I've ordered a sandwich from them to eat at the nearby park with friends on several occasions. I've never had a bad experience there, though you have to expect there to be a line, especially around lunchtime.

  • Wilson Tsang

TLDR: fair prices and high quality, tasty treats that aren’t overly sweet I got here at 10:30 AM and only one person ahead of me in line. I got the cardamom lattice bun with a nice light cream filling inside and a raspberry vanilla brioche that looked pretty sweet but again wasn’t that sweet! They also have seating sections outdoors for you to enjoy your pastries and coffee so come and eat up!

  • Dh Na

This bakery is located at the intersection of Geary and Steiner in the small strip mall. I also noticed there were several car parking spots. But I don't remember seeing any spots for bicycle parking. The bakery is surprisingly huge. There was a large variety of baked goods. When I was here there was not a big line - just one person before me. The quality of the baked goods were excellent.

  • Brittany Stricklin

I would give this twelve stars if I could. Do yourself a favor and drop by. The Nutella brioche and almond cake were our favorite sweet items. I loved the vegetarian cauliflower sandwich. It is probably the best cold sandwich I've ever had. I wish I were local, as I would buy it regularly. It was absolutely huge and was perfect to stick in our bag and eat later while sightseeing.

  • Laura Peters

When my husband and I walked in to Jane the Bakery we were greeted by a charming young woman who filled our order with joy. We liked their baguette and other loaf we purchased. Both had great crusts. Our sandwich was tasty and filling. I only got one pastry on this first visit, a lavender lemon scone that was top notch. We will be returning without question!

  • Tibor

Holy moly! You walk in and you just see the most incredible array of baked goods! Beautiful, artisan bread of every variety, shape and size! Wanting to get a simple taste of this location I got a pain au chocolat which apparently is award-winning. Very rich and flavorful. I just wish I would’ve chosen a black coffee to go with it! Easily worth a visit!

  • Katherine James

OMG! This place is amazing. Such a huge selection of breads, pastries, sandwiches and they even had coffee. It was my first visit and I loved how the young man who assisted me answered my questions (dozens of them) about the various items. I ended up leaving with a huge box of goodies because everything looked delicious...and was.

  • Aakash Gupta

In my opinion, the best bakery in America. Croissant, chocolate croissant, baguette, whole wheat sourdough - in four crowded categories, they come out at the top. Then you add in good coffee and sandwiches, PLUS like 50 amazing pastries that just they make, and it becomes clear why this is the gold standard of bakeries anywhere.

  • Katarina Stein

Amazing bakery! Great Kouign-amann. Tons of different pastries, both sweet and savory. The line moves fast. There is seating outside. Many types of bread to choose from. Just picked up the olive polenta bread and there are WHOLE olives and little polenta chunks throughout. Wow! So unique. At $10 a loaf, my expectations are met.

  • Liz Aleman Moore

Best baguette in the hood, and I love the rainbow sprinkle cookies and olive polenta loaf. Too bad plain croissant is so expensive! The weekend biscuits and jam are great. Coffee has gone downhill a bit. Love the small cheese selection. Cookie dough is delicious, although pricey. Salads are big and yummy, sandwiches too! More

I went around 4 PM on a Tuesday and the baked goods were almost completely gone. I ordered a Chocolate Croissant, which was yummy. It tasted fresh with a dark chocolate filling. The prices seemed fair and the on-site parking was an added bonus. I'd be open to going back, but in the morning to see the full offering.

  • Chris Smith

This was my favourite bakery in San Francisco. Everything was delicious and the bakery had a very relaxed and cool vibe. Their coffee was also very good. The pastry is amongst the most perfect I’ve found in the US. Lots of people seem to come past on their way to work in the morning. The breads also looked amazing.

  • Jordan Vincent

As a French person I can say that the croissants are better than 99% of the viennoiseries you can find in France. My French friends who came to visit still rave about it. Jane The Bakery has a wide variety of pastries, breads, and sandwiches, all as appetizing as each other. It's frankly hard to pick just one.

  • Elif Nur Dayi

Sourdough is simply delicious, but 13$ for a small cup of cheese is just waay too overpriced. We didn’t know this as nothing had prices on them. Also would be great if they were serving more products in slices than full loaves so we could have different things, we didnt get to try Babka and different breads.

  • Sara

Have you been to jane the bakery? If not, YOU MUST! It’s an absolutely delicious bakery! Their sourdough walnut fig bread was on point! I missed out on the croissants that apparently sell out by 9am. I really wanted to try the olive bread that was sold out too. The coffee and the fig bread made my day!

  • Saif

Best bakery ever! I found it by chance when I was walking in SF streets in the morning, the bread smell caught my attention, and here it was, a line of people standing lines, we waited in line to see what’s in there, and it was amazing lot of tasty things, Cardamum was my favorite …

THE BREAD! Tell me this isn’t the best bread in SF. You can smell it down the street. Every sandwich is delicious, but especially the prosciutto and burrata. All of the baked goods are carefully crafted and look beautiful. Looking for a place to pick up lunch for a picnic? This is it.

  • Malte Nuhn

Impressive. I'd mostly given up finding this level of pastry excellence in the Bay Area - and then found it randomly. On par with London's Dusty Knuckle, and that's saying something! I'll be back to sample more of their repertoire, but after this croissant I have few doubts.

  • Daniel Bahmani

Nice and clean bakery in pac heights with a variety of sweet and savory baked goods and coffee. I have tried their cinnamon raisin bread which was wonderful. Jane cafe on Fillmore offered high quality food and drinks and was a hit. This place will pick up more traffic soon.

  • Christine P.

My first time here and really want to return to try other bakes goodies. Everything looked delicious so I had to really control myself, they tasted delicious too when we ate them - got the cardamon lattice bun, regular baguette, the scones and the apricot tart (yummy!!)

  • Spencer Naomi

Arrived at noon and the line was about ten people and moved fast. I thought they ham and cheese croissant was very good, but perhaps not the best in San Francisco - I will keep looking. I also had the morning roll, which was good, but the outermost loop was pretty dry.

The ciabbatta was good for sandwiches. The wheat sandwich loaf was also for making avocado egg sandwiches for breakfast.

Nice bakery excellent bread and pastries…cookies are hard not soft which was a bit off a let down for me but everyone’s as their preference. Definitely worth the line to enjoy great baked goods! Prices were fair and the staff were friendly.

Artisan bread shop with a well deserved reputation. All their breads are superb; the multigrain, basic wheat and sesame demi baguette stand out. All their sandwiches are excellent; we prefer the salad sandwich with beets and hummus and the

Top level bread and pastries! Jorgen and the team are doing an incredible job to keep the quality consistently high any given day. Get the buckwheat pan su chocolate or the pan au raisin, a must try. The baguette is also a great one.

  • Jeff Ho

We came here for the kouign amann (pronounced queen ah-mon) $5.50. It was delicious and well worth the wait. Kouign amann is the considered to be the fattest pastry. It is layers of butter and sugar with crispy dough. So good.

  • Sammy Yang

Like their bread very much. Especially, sourdough bread with figs and walnuts. Olive polenta is also great. Jane’s bread are all well balanced in flavor and moisture and the outer skin is perfectly crispy but not too hard.

  • Flapjack

Great selection of pastries for both breakfast and dessert. A lot of vegan options as well. Prices were surprisingly reasonable, only thing that was eh was the line but a long line means it’s gonna be good, which it was!

  • Meredith B.

Awesome bakery and brunch spot easy to park and great for after a bike ride. The food is amazing and the lines are not as hectic as Jane on Fillmore. Kind of in a random area though - but worth it. Definitely visit!!

  • Kehinde Akintomide

One of my favorite spots to get a yummy pretzel, perfectly baked and lightly salted and the chocolate chip cookie with bits of crunchy toffee laced inside of the cookie! So scrumptious and seriously irresistible!

  • Jimmy Pyne

As a bread enthusiast its almost worth a stop for the vibe inside and peek at the selection of goods on offer. The pastry was ok, more impressive for the selections on offer. Sandwiches and bread look good.

  • stay_hungry_taipei

the staff looks really happy working the atmosphere was great went there around 2 pm and most options were sold out got a gluten free loaf cake and traditional croissant it was not as flaky as expected tho

  • Isaac Appel

Staff is super friendly and sweet! Sandwich is a mouthful of flavor. Hearty and fresh with some tang. Curry is one of the better sauces I've had. And good bang for your buck. Lots of food for the price.

  • Sarah Paik

Parking lot right out front but very small. Going in around 9/10AM on Monday was not very busy. Sandwiches are AMAZING...chicken shawarma and prosciutto. Pastries were also VERY good. highly recommend.

  • 1 Yo

Ordered a traditional croissant and a mushroom biscuit. Both were really good! Croissant had very crispy outside, Beautiful and even gas bubbles inside. If you live near, this is a good place to go to!

  • Jackie Adams

Delicious pastries and fabulous enthusiastic staff. Tried a bit of everything, veggie sandwich, chicken sandwiches, all good. Pastries all good, but almond croissant best of the bunch.

  • Kayla

Very sweet staff. Loved trying out their gluten free sourdough (with a good selection of cheeses to pair!) and raspberry muffin. Cute little park across the street to sit and eat!

  • Jordan

This is one of the best bakeries in San Francisco right now. Be prepared to wait in line and pay a premium for baked goods but you will be satisfied after trying everything!

  • Jake Young

Probably the best croissants that I ever had in my life. I'm not local but me and my family are very much looking forward to come back and try their other pastries

  • Michael Wu PhD

One of the best croissant with lots of special pastries that you can't find anywhere. They have enough variety of both sweet and savory to meet all your craving.
