Po rozhodnutí o asanaci židovského ghetta vznikl v roce 1896 Israelitischer Synagogenverein in Prag (Israelitský synagogální spolek v Praze)[4], neboť bylo třeba postavit novou synagogu, jako náhradu ze Cikánovu, Velkodvorskou a Novou synagogu, které měly být zbourány. V roce 1899 zakoupil spolek starý dům v Jeruzalémské ulici na Novém Městě, jakožto pozemek pro novou stavbu. První projekt na stavbu v novorománském duchu byl předložen ještě tentýž rok architektem Aloisem Richterem, druhý návrh od stavitele Josefa Linharta, v novogotickém slohu, roku 1901 a konečně v roce 1903 předložil zkušený vídeňský architekt mnoha synagog v Rakousko-Uhersku, Wilhelm Stiassny, návrh v maurském slohu, který byl roku následujícího schválen a tak se mohlo započít se stavbou. K jedné z nejkurióznějších překážek ve výstavbě synagogy patří námitka vznesená pražským obecním starším Václavem Březnovským na IX. schůzi sboru obecních starších královského hlavního města Prahy, konané 3. září 1900, že „… Několik kroků dále stojí starobylý kostel sv. Jindřicha. Zpěv z jednoho kostela bude rušiti zpěv v druhém chrámu. …“[5]. Stavba byla na náklady spolku zbudována stavitelem Aloisem Richterem mezi 26. červnem 1905 a 16. zářím 1906, kdy byla na svátek Simchat Tóra slavnostně zasvěcena. O rok později přešla z majetku spolku, který oficiálně zanikl, na pražskou židovskou obec.[3] Do začátku druhé světové války sloužila Jeruzalémská synagoga k bohoslužbám neologického charakteru. V roce 1931 v ní proběhlo první synagogální kázání v češtině a převládajícím jazykem kongregantů se od té doby stala čeština. Ještě v dubnu 1941 se v synagoze pořádala poslední židovská svatba. Nařízením zastupujícího říšského protektora Reinharda Heydricha byla synagoga v září 1941 uzavřena pro bohoslužebné účely a následně sloužila jako skladiště konfiskovaného židovského majetku (díky tomu byla do značné míry uchráněna devastace). Původní synagogální nábytek byl ze synagogy vystěhován nejprve do Španělské synagogy a poté pravděpodobně zničen. Bezprostředně po válce byla její činnost obnovena. Bohoslužby se zde pravidelně konají dodnes. V rámci nedávné rekonstrukce byla objevena a obnovena původní výzdoba, sestávající z bohatě malovaných ornamentů ve stylu vídeňské secese. Při průzkumu nástěnných maleb byl v lednu 2003 pod mramorovou deskou vlevo od svatostánku objeven ukrytý pergamenový svitek – „Závěrečná listina“ z roku 1906, který obsahuje vylíčení historie stavby, údaje o stavebnících a stavitelích a seznam firem a řemeslníků, kteří se na podíleli na stavbě a výzdobě. Jeruzalémská synagoga je posledním místem na světě, kde se doposud dochovaly v rámci liturgie melodie od slavného vídeňského skladatele Salomona Sulzera, např. Lecha dodi. Jako jeden z posledních klasických předválečných synagogálních kantorů zde mezi lety 1963 - 1994 působil doktor Moše Blum.

Astonishing architecture and a very interesting exhibition about the Jewish community in Prague. The synagogue is not far from the main railway station so you can visit it even if you have just a couple of hours in Prague. There is a leaflet about the history of this unusual place, in many languages, to pick up at the ticket office. Remember that it is closed on Saturday!

Also currently houses some fascinating retrospectives on lesser known figures from Prague's history, as well as permanent exhibits with interesting and personal details on Czech history in the 20th century. The Jerusalem Synagogue is the only active place of worship and corporate observance of Judaism in Prague, accept for family homes. It is worth a visit as the other synagogues in Prague (Jewish Quarter) are now museums and memorials to a people who have been victimised for over two thousand years. There are a number of free standing panels in this synagogue that tell the story of the Jewish community in Prague.

Nothing can escape the art nouveau style of Prague not even a Jewish synagogue that was built in 1906. This colorful building is very eye-catching when walking from the station to the city center. The Western front face is decorated by a Czech and Hebrew inscription: This is God’s gate, through which the righteous enter. Don’t we all have but one father? Have we not been created by the only God?

Truly beautiful. Downstairs is stunning, with the Morish influences and colours. For me breathtaking. Important: make sure you have enough time to visit, as there is a permanent exposition upstairs. A very well written, shocking history of what has occurred to the Jews in Prague. I had not enough time to read and see it all before closing time(17.00) and I am really sorry about that.

It's pretty, although not as overwhelming as the Cathedral. Still, for a modest price of 100CZK (around 4-5€) You get to see a beautiful building, and as a bonus there is something to learn about Jewish history in Prague. For this alone it would be better to visit Jewish Museum, but combining a bit of history with amazing architecture makes for a great experience.

This is a stunning and fascinating place to visit, and the staff made us feel welcome. We purchased our tickets online before going which made things quicker when we got there. Make sure you visit the upper level which involves going outside to the entrance and up the stairs to the left.

Really good, much more simple than the churches in decor but all the better for that. Friendly guy that took our tickets helped us understand [not Jewish]. Three excellent exhibitions covering different aspects of history - really interesting.

Such a beautiful architecture, with interesting and colourful Moorish and Art Nouveau touches. The entire city of Prague has many buildings with stunning façade and this synagogue is surely one of the most beautiful ones. To my surprise, the entrance was free of charge.

Such a nice and colorful building. You can learn about the Jews history from Czechia. There is an exhibition about this on the 2nd floor. This version of the building is the one renovated. Before, it looked more simpler and without so much colors on it and ornaments. You can get a free entrance with the Prague card.

Amazing. At google says that is closed but is actually not! Super worth to visit. Affordable and better than all the other ones. The first one that I visited and honestly the best visit of the day. Also the guy that gives the tickets is the nicest person I met in Prague. A very very nice guy.

Objekt je jediný exot v ulici Jeruzalémská. Byl postaven v Maurském stylu. Uvnitř je trvalá výstava o židovských objektech, osobnostech apod. V současné době probíhá rekonstrukce uliční fasády.

Velmi výstřední, ale krásná památka v Praze. Je velice zdobná a jsou na ní dotvořené nejmenší detaily. Rozhodně doporučuji za vidění. V současné době se opravuje, ale věřím, že to nebude dlouho trvat a ukáže se nám ve vší kráse. Synagoga se nachází v blízkosti Hlavního nádraží.

It is so beautiful interior and exterior. I am not sure whether included to Jewish Quarter ticket. I visited only this Synagogue in Prag. It has mourish style and fascinating. There are exhibitions about Synagogue and Jewish Community in Prague prewar and postwar.

Rozhodně ano. Byl by hřích vynechat právě tuto synagogu při prohlídce židovských památek. Rozhodně patří k nadherně vyzdobeným a krásně zrekonstruovaným pamatkám. Škoda, že zvenku je stále ještě místama zakryta. Nelituji, určitě se do ní zajděte podívat.

The nice lady at the desk was very helpful with questions regarding the faith. The entry fee was really cheap, 100 kr per person. The inside was quite beautiful and the info regarding the building of the synagogue was a nice touch

Must visit, it's a very beautiful place. Small and elegant, with historical significance. Plenty to read, gives an overview of the struggles faced in the past. Picture gallery was also amazing with a view from the balcony.

Very interesting architecture. It looks cool. They have educational pannels about Jews in Prague inside. You can go to the second floor from outside. We had really good experience. We definitely suggest the visit

Nice place to visit. there's an entrance fee. . 80 CK for adults . .. keep enough time to see inside because there's a permanent exhibition and the synagogue closes at five. So you might take some time

A hidden gem. Colorful, bright, unique place with a nice vibe. Not crowded, so you can enjoy the synagogue and truly feel something special there. Be sure to check the 2nd floor.

Krásná, barevná a sluncem prosvětlená stavba. Hezky zrekonstruováno. Vstupné symbolické oproti jiným pražským památkám. WC uvnitř. Příjemný personál, který Vás uvítá, poradí.

Nádherná židovská památka, kde také v horní galerii probíhají dvě výstavy. Rozhodně stojí za návštěvu, ať už běžná prohlídka nebo některé speciální akce, jako jsou koncerty.

Zvenku je to moc krásná budova, tak pěkná, až se mi ani nehodí do Prahy. Uvnitř jsem nebyl, tak nevím.
