We can't survive without their wholemeal bread. We've been buying it here for many years and it seems as good as ever. Sometimes we go for something different (Spanish peasant bread, olive bread). There's always something worth trying. Our daughter-in-law can't eat wheat, and she says the spelt bread is the best spelt she's tried. Can't comment on the cakes, as we don't eat much sweet stuff. Three whinges: 1. There's often no large wholemeal loaves left by midday on Mondays - why is that? 2. In the past, the croissants have been too bready and not enough flakey. Maybe this has changed since we last bought some. 3. The organic wholemeal (which can't be called wholemeal as that's apparently a trademark or something) is too dense and a bit too worthy, although I know someone who comes half way across Bristol specially to buy it.

they use not the real cherries - they use this artificial chemical looking cherries without real taste. You gonna pay £3.80 for vegan cake with these kinda cherries. I don't get it - why it's so hard to use natural cherries, they would add so much flavoure to this cake. But no, they use this chemicals...I tried few other things there too, but I liked only apple piece of baking (I forgot the name lol))

There are 2 shops, 2 very different experiences. The shop by the prison has problems.... This shop further down the A38 nearer the city centre is much better for customer service. This shop has friendly staff, unrushed opportunity to choose your food and bread, just generally a better experience. The cakes are excellent and a fair price, there is a good selection hot savoury food (Good bacon).

Couldn’t find any of those artisan sausage rolls in any cafes while wondering down Gloucester rd into town (it was 3pm) thought I saw one here but it turned out to be a veggie one, so I ordered a chicken pasty instead. Although it wasn’t what I had set out for I was glad I had bought it, very nice pasty.

Great artisan breads. There's a large range from small tin loaves to olive and tomato breads and a whole bunch of cereal combinations. They usually have a good selection of slices of cake, flavours such as date and walnut. On Saturdays there are queues out of the door and they are often sold out by the end of the day.

The bread is excellent here. I do have to agree with a previous commenter that the pasties are not the greatest though, not enough filling. The cakes I have tried have been as good as the bread though. The staff are always friendly.

Round City loaf all the way, if you start going to this place regularly you'll start turning you're nose up at other breads and bakeries. It's simply the best. The pasties aren't great, maybe go pizza slices instead.

This is one of two shops run by Joes bakery (the other one is at the top end of Gloucester Road) near to HMP Bristol Same quality of bakery Good independent shops in the area, great cakes and bread

No longer the Bread Store, has been sold on. Now some kind of greasy spoon at lunch times selling sausage/bacon baps. The wonderful & friendly staff have left, and now its very dour.

Great tasting savoury snacks with great variety daily loafs. Definitely recommend the premium sasuage rolls - heavy but delicious! Like a mini beef Wellington

Keep on keeping on with great quality bread. Just fabulous, award winning bread, including an array of different sour dough delights.

  • Kelly-ann Luckhurst

Great variety of fresh bread, and flours too. I tried the olive loaf which was delicious with some soup. Will be returning.

  • Tom Fletcher

Downhill I'm afraid. Older staff member was quite rude, pasties were cold, and bread was overbaked. Won't go back.

  • Tasha Jones
