My son entered this school during the middle of his 5th grade year because they had an opening for him and basically told me this was the only way to guarantee he would be able to attend KIPP for middle school also. I was worried about moving my son in the middle of the year but I did it. They didn’t attempt to teach my son material they already learned, I had to do it but they expected him to be able to test on the material. I was upset when my child came home with an 80% because of answering questions incorrectly on material he wasn’t taught. Anyway, against all odds, my child ended up with all A’s that quarter (3rd quarter) as well as 4th. So graduation/ceremony day comes, my child doesn’t receive an honor roll certificate and I’m given the lamest excuse that it’s because they didn’t have his grades from his previous school. Mind you, my child was 1 out of 3 kids in his class to pass all his EOG’s. 1 out of 13 in the whole 5th grade. Yes! I said it correctly only 13 kids in the whole 5th grade passed all 3 EOG’s. My daughter was supposed to attend this school for the 18-19 school year but the way they did my son has shown me their true colors. They also don’t allow kids to socialize during lunch which I think is absurd. I thought this school was great because the curriculum was a challenge for children to think outside the box. However, I do not recommend this school to anyone based on the lack of within the faculty itself. Run as far away as possible.

This is my 2nd year at KIPP Charlotte Academy. I chose the KIPP brand because of its reputation in New York City where I am originally from. Unfortunately, I'm sorry to say that my experience hasn't been as great as I had hoped it to be. Let me be clear in saying there are some great teachers at KIPP but my less than pleased experience is in mostly part due to lack of communication and faulty leadership. The school leader is never on campus and as a member of the Parents Alliance; she's not once made herself available to myself or members of the alliance. The school often times penalizes good students prematurely over minor infractions to be used as an example. Whereas, the students with behavior problems and there are plenty of them; aren't disciplined at all or not enough. The school has many problem areas but the one I have the biggest problem with is its response to children who don't adhere to the Parent/Student handbook. The work is vigorous and the expectations are high which I do admire. My daughter is an Honor Roll student and well liked by her peers and teachers. But for us even with the positives of KIPP, the negatives far outweigh them and we are aggressively looking for new middle schools for the 2017-2018 School Year. The parent support is less than 1% of the school body which is desperately heart wrenching. Good Luck!

Parents, make this your last choice. The only good thing from this school is the teachers, the majority of them. Just about everyone outside of the teachers and Mrs. Leah should be pulled, retrained, or replaced; just that simple. Here are some of the thing you will experience: unfairness, lack of follow-up or follow-through, you will get ignored when you've called them out on their wrongdoings, and a ton of unprofessionalism. The receptionist will screen your calls via caller id and decide if they will answer your call or not ( so if you have made numerous attempts to reach this school and no answer, chances are they are intentionally ignoring you), they abuse their authority, don't know how to keep their hands to themselves, don't know how to talk to your children ( like they won't come back and inform you); these things I have witnessed. When it comes to facing an issue, they avoid you. I am in the process of removing my children from this school. I always like to allow everyone to prove themselves instead of forming an opinion on other people's experiences, and I was utterly wrong with this one; I should've believed every word. I wish that there was an option for no stars, they've earned it honestly! They are hypocrites and want these children to act in a way that they don't govern themselves.

I sent my child to Kipp two years ago. She is a well behaved child and was really liked by here teachers and staff. She was on the A/B Honor Roll but did not perform on her math level. I decided to move my daughter to a different school because the students were unruly and my daughter would come home some days saying the teachers had to argue with some students to get control over the classes and at times it was scary. Plus I felt like they would give my child grades in math she didn't earn. When I had a conference about my concerns. I was assured she was getting the grades she had earned. My concern was if she is just giving a good grade because she is not a problem child. That would not help her if she had not learn the work and because she did not get help and got false grades. She is paying for it know. I know of Kipps in other cities and they are really good schools. The teachers and staff make sure the kids preform well and reach for Excellency. This Kipp just has the name without the principles. I would not send my back to this Kipp.

My son had a horrible time adjusting from Elementary to middle school a few years ago and no one cared. He was bullied and picked on often and is very intelligent but instead of helping they retained him.His first day we were running late and he had to sit alone at lunch, there were no school buse (don't know if there are now). At that time we lived across town but I wanted my son in a good achool and heard great things.Teacher was arrested and still able to come back and work.We were three minutes ahead of class time and I will never forget the Principal still sent him to the office, knowing the tardiness adds up to absences. The children are not prepared for the EOG and the testing scores are LOW! This school is a disappointment and made my son look like a below average student and he is not,he is off to college soon! And I also want to add don't not have your child's lunch money in order, they will refuse them food.

This school is a disgrace to the education system. I went here and everyone in the comments saying this school is good need to stop ASAP, I know they paying y’all but I also know it ain’t much. There is no nurse, you could buss your head open and they will give you a bandaid and a ice pack. Make it make sense. The food was being brought by a private prison. The kids in prison program should be for juvenile delinquents only. The teachers hit you then lie about it, they cuss and give up on students. Thanks for your time and unenroll your kids If you love them.

I Love this school and wish they had a High School here. Everyone has different opinions about Kipp, but i know starting here in 5 grade with my son was A struggle. The teachers were great and they were team players with us. I appreciate all the time and love they gave us. I'm a vey active parent and i was always around, so they knew me very well. 8 grade graduation my son and i both cried and talked about all of our memories there. We're missing the whole staff this year, KIPP CHARTER Y'ALL ROCK

The school itself is not bad at all, Its just that the environment isn't the best. The school is in a very rural area of Charlotte and you would not believe how many lock downs they've had because of the shootings that have gone on in the surrounding neighborhoods. I've also witnessed several accounts of bullying during my time here. Not to mention The time a student was caught with marijuana in one of the bathrooms. But the academics there are very good and they challenge the kids a lot.

They yell at me for no reason I hate how kids get hurt everyday and there's still no nurse kipp honestly needs closed down there's barely ever any authority around and teachers don't care if you need to call home , they say " one pride one sound " then when the whole class is talking they yell at one person , the food is discussing and makes me want to barf they don't even make the food they buy it . I would never recommend this school to any body

KIPP of Charlotte needs to be shut down. The staff is unorganized and unprofessional. They do not adhere to state and federal guidelines for kids with an IEP. Noone responds to emails or phone calls. The teachers do not help students when they ask for help. The overall experience was terrible for my child. This school make CMS look like Harvard University. I would not recommend KIPP to noone if they want their child to have an education.

This is a bad school they do not care about the students they won't even listen to them when they're trying to tell them something my daughter has been wrongly accused for something two timese child hits my daughter today and my daughter tried to tell the teacher all they can do is tell her to be quiet and sit down I am so sick of this school I would not recommend this school for dog training

This is my children 1st year and the school. so far the only thing I don't like about is the poor decision they do with choosing the bus drivers. My son one day flow off his chair because the driver suddenly hit the brakes. She is always yelling at the kids on the bus... ive talk transportation and The principle. They say it will be address but nothing gets done.....

I didn't enjoy the learning experience for my nephew. He was bullied and picked on often, with no assistance from the teachers in preventing it. Often time the school or teachers were unorganized or unprepared. Information would be presented as one way and a few days later it would completely change to something else. No consistency

It was straight all my class mates were funny and if u are not a push over this school is very lit I gave it a 4 because I had a lot of fun times but the teachers had favorites and treated some students with more respect than others my main problem was not being allowed to use the bathroom several times but that is all.

This school is very unorganized. The administration is very unprofessional. There is a big turn over rate umongst the staff. My daughter has been here for 2 yrs and this will be her last year. My daughter has had some growth since being their, but this year she has been stagnant due to the multiple changes with staff.

Kipp is really what you make of it This is my second year here and I can honestly say that The education they provide here is great. Although like every other school there are behavioral problems that intrude class time but if your focused you’ll do fine

  • Caroline Brockenton

  • Yxng Jay46

The Total Children's Wellness Fair venue: The campus is lovely. The staff is welcoming and the children always seem well behaved during each visit.
