Krakow Urban adventures is fantastic. We recently had a trip to Poland, Krakow to be precise. We travelled from Dublin Ireland. Our package included a tour of the Salt Mines which was amazing, would definitely like to visit the Salt Mines again. We were given a gift of the food tour which was organized by Monika, this was truly wonderful. We met our guide at our hotel and she travelled with us to the Centre of the city. She gave us lots of information and explained history and Polish life to us in great detail. As we walked along it began to snow and this made our evening really magical. We visited many restaurants and partook of the beautiful food made locally and so fresh and apetising We were adventurous in tasting and enjoying the different food. Our guide was excellent in explaining the recipes and the ingredients. I truly enjoyed that as I am interested in cooking myself. We finished the tour in a very old historical area( ?Jewish) a very old restaurant/ pub with great character. Our guide returned with us to our hotel via tram and we felt very safe as it was late evening. I would highly recommend this wonderful food tour to visitors to Krakow, Magical, informative, historical, and a beautiful gastronomical experience. Thank you Monika for making our trip to Poland so memorable. Helen and Tony McCormack, Co Tipperary, Ireland.

I can't recommend this tour highly enough. This was a fabulous tour - full of information, a lovely overview of the city, interspersed with interesting food & drink experiences in places were the locals hang out. It was informative and delicious (and filling!) and not at all banal, a winning combination in my book. Perhaps most importantly the guide was everything I'd want from a guide: a lovely person to be with, and she gave us personal and meaningful insights into the history of Krakow (medieval, WWII, under the Soviets) and also contemporary life and traditions in Poland, all in the context of an easy-going conversation. Thank you so much for this incredible experience!! We also did an in-depth tour of Krakow the following day with Tomasz and this was equally amazing. My 14 year-old daughter who is usually attached to her cellphone as if it were her lifeline was enchanted by his stories and descriptions and said the 4-hour tour flew by so fast - she (and I) just didn't want it to end!

This was a very special tour and one of the highlights of my visit to Kraków. Aneta was my cooking instructor for this tour and she was excellent! First, we stopped at the market to get some traditional snacks to eat before making pierogi and it was fun to see all the produce, breads, meats and cheeses on display (there's so much) in a traditional Polish farmer's market. Then, we headed back to her flat to eat the snacks and make pierogis. Aneta is very personable, kind, and patient, and made me feel at ease about cooking pierogis. I also learned a lot about the culture of Polish food, which I very much appreciated. Learning how to cook a traditional Polish dish has deepened my understanding and appreciation of Polish cuisine and culture, and it has enriched my visit to Kraków overall. Also, to be welcomed into someone's home while traveling abroad is very special and humbling experience and very generous on the part of the guide/instructor. Thank you, Aneta, for a terrific day!

I highly recommend this pierogi class. Izabela was incredible at teaching us how to make pierogi. We first walked through the market and bought the items we needed my group and I had a chance to practice our polish in the market. She bought pastries at the market for us to try back at her home. She shared stories with us about her own childhood and her memories of making pierogi with her mother. She shared tips passed down from her mother and that made the experience even more memorable. We got to try the pastries with coffee that she made and with our pierogis we had beer. This is a very hands on experience and it was so much fun! By the end of it all we were stuffed but it was all so delicious and worth it. Book this wonderful experience, we learned a lot and will never forget how kind Izabela was, we felt so welcomed in her home. She also provided us with wonderful information on things we can do in krakow and restaurant recommendations.

Book the experience - you won't regret it! We got the privilege to be hosted by Iza :) She taught us the history behind the obwarzanek and got us a few to try. We also were given the task to shop for our own ingredients at the local market where she taught us a few Polish phrases (we loved being able to interact with the local merchants in this way. It truly felt special!). We were then welcomed into her home where we learned about Polish culture and pierogi. She was patient, warm, kind, and very welcoming. We even got to taste beer that her friend brews (how awesome is that?). It was more delicious than the ones we had already tried. We had great conversation over our delicious pierogi, desserts, and tea. Honestly, I could go on and on about how unique the experience & Iza was.. but words can't do it justice!:) Thope you get the chance to try this experience with lza!

Took two separate tours with Urban Tours. First one was in Nowa Huta - Ideal Communist City with Tomasz. Fantastic walking tour throughout this USSR built/planned community. Seeing history behind the iron curtain and how people work, lived, and played under communist rule. Great tour highly recommend. Enjoyed spending the first part of the day walking around with Tomasz who has also lived in Nowa Huta, to learn from his experience and his board base of knowledge of the area. Second Tour was Krakow Food by Foot with Monika, it was an enjoyable evening walking around the Old Town and Kazimierz, trying different foods and beverages that are local to Krakow as well regional Cuisine to Poland. Monika was fantastic very personable and enjoyed the evening learning about about food and drink in some great spaces throughout the tour.

Being a couple of foodies, my wife and I decided to attend one of Krakow Urban Tours pierogi making classes. So glad we did. The class was conducted by Tomasz, who was a great host. He met us as arranged and first took us to the market to buy the ingredients we would need. Previously he made us practice some basic Polish phrases. Buying the items we needed was great fun. Tomasz was a very knowledgeable host and gave us a brief history of the market. He then took us to his house in the suburbs of Krakow where he instructed us in techniques of pierogi making. It was great fun and having been in the food industry for several years I can say with confidence he was a great instructor. Having filled our stomachs with homemade pierogi, Tomasz returned us to the centre of Krakow. I would highly recommend this class.

  • Jim Isch

Alicja was an absolute delight. She met us near the market and presented an ingredients list along with appropriate Polish phrases to purchase the goods. Not only was it fun seeing all the wares the vendors were selling, but we also had a little language lesson. What a treat. After purchasing our ingredients, we went to her home where she served us some appetizers from the market she quickly prepared and then she allowed us to begin the process of making pierogis. While I am not a cook nor intend to learn much, her humor and light touch made it a delightful experience. After making the pierogis, Alicja sat done with us for conversation and good food. The day was a pleasure. Would recommend to anyone wanting to enjoy a meal in a polish home, or have an enjoyable experience.

We took this tour on our first evening in Krakow and it was such a great time! We had no problem finding the designated pickup location & we were greeted immediately by our guide Olga. Olga was fantastic- so friendly & down to earth! She was also incredibly knowledgeable & full of interesting little factoids about all of the pubs/restaurants we visited & things we saw along the way. You could tell immediately that she really enjoyed her work and took pride in introducing us to her city & Polish cuisine. The food was outstanding & plentiful...I'm not kidding when I say come hungry! My only regret was that I didn't have room for more! Overall, it was an incredible experience and an excellent way to spend our first evening in Krakow. We can't wait to go back!

  • Ellen Thomas

We had such a terrific time with both Monika and Tomasz. We booked the Food on Foot tour for our first evening and Monika was our guide. What a great introduction to Krakow! It was like we were out with one of our close friends who just happened to know all about Krakow food, culture and history. And there was so much to eat; everything was so delicious! The next day we booked Tomasz for a Krakow history tour in the morning and then Jewish Krakow in the afternoon. Doing all three tours in this order was the absolute best decision. We learned so much while being entertained by our delightful guides. They truly know their stuff and were at all times professional, flexible and concerned for our wellbeing. I highly recommend these three tours!

Several of my family members and I recently enjoyed the Krakow Urban Adventures Virtual Guide to Polish culture. Our tour guide, Monika, was engaging, warm, extremely friendly, and very knowledgeable. The tour was conducted in English, which she managed like a native speaker. We had hoped to be able to visit Krakow this year, but travel restrictions have required that we postpone our trip. This virtual tour is a very good introduction to Polish culture and will certainly aid in planning for our eventual trip to the city. We can’t wait to meet Monika in person when we finally do get to Poland. I do encourage anyone planning to visit Krakow to reach out to Krakow Urban Adventures as your local guide.

  • Kathy W

This class was amazing. The host Alicja was great. She welcomed us into her home. First we met at the assigned meeting place. Then we went to the market and bought what we needed to make perogies. Her home was a about a 15 minute cab ride away away from the centre of Krakow. This made the experience even better. We learnt about life away from the city. There were 4 in our group. Two of the people chopped onions and the other two peeled potatoes. While that was cooking we prepared the dough for the perogies. Since the dough has to rest we had appetizers which consisted of cheese smoked and not smoked and pickles. The pergoies were delicious. We had poppy seed cake for dessert.

  • Natasha Raezer

I had a great afternoon cooking with Tomasz! I was traveling alone for the first time and turned out to be the only person that was signed up for class that afternoon. I was initially worried that it could quickly become stilted or awkward, but instead I had a really warm, intimate experience and felt well taken care of the entire evening. We enjoyed some great food and I got a glimpse into day-to-day life in Poland. I highly recommend taking a class early in your time in Kraków - Tomasz's advice and expertise helped me plan the rest of my trip, which turned out to be maybe the most fun I've ever had on vacation. Can't thank him enough or recommend the class more strongly!

  • Brian Lowrey

Tomasz was absolutely incredible. He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, talkative, and made a genuine attempt to get to know you. It’s a testament to his skill that he made what ended up being a private cooking class so entertaining and memorable. Everything about the experience, from shopping in the market in Polish (with his prep) to feeling like you’re a part of the family, was above and beyond my expectations. As a foreigner, it was great to see the Kraków suburbs and an average Polish household. I would recommend this to literally anybody. It goes without saying that the pierogi were delicious, as I have not even mentioned them in this review yet :).

  • Eric Liu

This is one of the most unique experiences you get in Europe. You not only learn how to cook pierogi from scratch and try Polish foods from the open market sold by locals. But what makes this special is that you get to have a direct experience with locals and have close conversations with them unlike many other tours. Aneta was my guide/instructor and highly recommend her since she is more than just a instructor. We were able to talk about our life experiences from our respective countries, share our interests, and she even taught me some Polish phrases and traditions. Would definitely do this again. Bonus tip: you also get a copy of the recipe too.

  • Brenda Sinkovich

I booked this pierogi making class for my daughter and I and it was nothing short of amazing. Our hostess, Domenika was warm, kind, patient and personable. She took us to the market (which was a sensory delight) taught me how to ask for my items in Polish, was highly environmentally conscious and efficient. Her flat was simply adorable with a bohemian vibe and neat as a pin. We loved visiting with her and learning all about making the pierogies. They were delicious and she provided a copy of the recipe so I can make them when I get home. This was a highly enjoyable experience that I cannot recommend more strongly. 10 out of 10!!

  • Stacey De

I had the absolute best experience making pierogies and taking the food tour. I was lucky to have Aneta as my guide! She was so kind and friendly! I loved visiting the market for ingredients and making the traditional pierogies with Aneta. I also did the food tour which is the best decision you can make! EVERYTHING was so wonderful and memorable! I'm so happy I had the chance to learn all about the local history, customs and experience the food! I'm also thrilled I can call Aneta my friend after our fantastic day! Don't hesitate! This has been one of the best and most favorite things I did while visiting Krakow!

  • Kelly Meyer

One of my favorite ways to experience a new city is by taking a cooking class. This Pierogi class with Tomasz was a top class. One of the things that stands out is that he first brought us to a historical market where he taught us the words for the ingredients that we would be using and had us ask the market sellers for the foods! It was a great way to be immersed in the culture. After a short ride to his home, Tomasz was super friendly, giving us many tips and encouragement along the way as we made the pierogi. The snacks, beer, and of course the pierogi were delicious. I highly recommend this experience!

  • Angela Tugaoen

Tomasz was an amazing, kind, funny, and a very accommodating host for our cooking class and Thanksgiving dinner in Krakow. A large group of us visited for Thanksgiving and Tomasz was able to customize our experience so that we had a family-style Polish feast! We learned about the Polish culture, learned to cook pierogis, had many tasty treats, tried local beers, and Tomasz and his family sang traditional Polish songs for us! We truly enjoyed our time and would schedule another gathering with Tomasz the next time we find ourselves in the area. 10 out of 10 would recommend - you will not be disappointed!

  • Sallie Sanford

This market-shopping and cooking class was a highlight of my stay in Krakow! Dominika was an excellent guide to Krakow's marvelous farmer's market (where she gave me and the other three students the words to use to choose the ingredients for our snack and pierogi making). Then the class at her apartment was great fun and informative; delicious too. This was an excellent way to learn about Polish foods and culture! Highly recommend. (I was pleasantly surprised that this was all within a few minutes' walk from where we were staying just outside the Old Town. I had no idea previously about that market.)

  • David Haim

Recently my family took the Tatra Mountains and Zakopane private tour (1 Day), and we absolutely loved it. Even before the tour, our guide Monika reached out for additional information that would help curate the right experience for our group (twin 8-year-olds and 5 adults with a wide range of mileage and abilities) which was amazing. Monika is extremely knowledgeable of Krakow, Zakopane, and the Tatra mountains and that enriched our experience even more during and after the tour. I would not have been able to plan this type of experience on my own for a day trip to Zakopane. Highly recommend!

  • Lisa Giles

Fantastic Polish virtual cookery class with Monika who taught my 2 teenagers and me to make pierogi via a Zoom call. It was an informative, enjoyable and productive way to spend a couple of hours over half-term in lockdown! Monika was so friendly, knowledgeable and her instructions were super easy to follow. Her English is excellent and it was lovely to learn more about Poland. Thank you Monika - we all had a lovely evening. Oh - and we all loved the pierogi and will be making them again and experimenting with different fillings!

  • Julie Jasewicz

Krakow Urban Adventures lets you see a different side of life in Poland. Personally I did the Home Cooking Class with Monika and it was so incredible. My family has strong Polish roots so the whole trip was very sentimental and meaningful for me, I loved getting to speak some Polish with the locals at the market and learning how to make such a classic Polish dish. Monika and her husband could not have been kinder or more welcoming. It was the perfect end to my stay in Krakow and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

  • Dr. Allan Levandowski

I attended a private cooking class with Iza a local resident. She spoke perfect English, was a wonderful hostess and her home was clean and neat. She taught me how to prepare Poland’s signature pierogi dumplings from her family recipe. She also taught me about Polish customs, Polish food, Polish heritage, and the history of Pierogi. She also took me to the local farmers market where we picked out the fresh ingredients we needed for the Pierogi. If you are ever visiting Krakow I highly recommend this tour.

  • Sue Frause

The Polish Pierogi Cooking Tour in Krakow was part of our Best of Poland in 10 Days Tour (Rick Steves Tours). It was a highlight during our three nights in Krakow. Our 'guide' Dominika Serzysko first took us to a local market where we shopped for the ingredients -- then to her nearby apartment where we became professional pierogi pupils! Not only did we make them, we ate them -- three different varieties. Such a treat to learn from a local and spend time in her kitchen and dining room. Highly Recommend!

  • Quinten Garcia

We had an awesome time making pierogi with Alicja! We started at a busy farmer's market where we picked up ingredients and other snacks. Then, we headed to her home in a quiet neighborhood outside the city center, where she kindly welcomed us with some appetizers and Polish beer. The pierogi came out delicious and we gained an appreciation for the process of making them and can't wait to try back home. Thanks to Alicja for making us feel like family and we would love to come back!

  • Mariana Satiro

My friends and I had as a celebration idea for a bachelor party to hold a polish cooking class and we hired Tomasz to teach us how to cook pierogi and our class was so much fun. We spent hours cooking and it was so much fun that I didn't even notice the time go by. Tomasz was very attentive answering all our questions and explaining about the polish culture. As a complement to the class, he also played typical music which made the class even more interesting. I highly recommend!

  • Kathi Taylor

Monika led our team of 15 leaders through a fantastic pierogi making class via Zoom. The 90 minute program seemed to move quickly and then "tada" we had each made pierogies from scratch. It was a wonderful opportunity for our team to have an experience together while we are all remote across North America. Monika's instructions were clear, she shared some amazing history and information about pierogies and Poland and we all had a wonderful experience. Dziękuję Monika!

  • Don Taylor

What an amazing experience. Monika was a first class host. She took to me to places I know I wouldn't on my own foods I wouldn't know to order. What really brings it together were her stories along the way. Stories about the Poland, Krakow, the food we're eating, customs and traditions, even the restaurant itself. Everything was woven together so perfectly that I found it all very enriching. I could not recommend this any more highly. You must give it a try!

  • Sharon Lowe

My daughter and I did a 90 minute virtual pierogi cooking class with Tomasz, and what a great experience! Tomasz was a wonderful host, great storytelling, shared history of pierogi, and along the way we learned some local language, experienced some traditional music. Best of all, we made some amazingly delicious pierogi from grandmas recipe! I was even able to very successfully make them gluten and dairy free! Thank you Tomasz for this wonderful experience!!

  • Rene Knippel

The Pierogi Cooking class was so much more than that! Tomasz gave us a one of a kind, authentic Polish experience. He taught us about culture, food, people, history, and geography. This was our favorite day of our vacation by far. We highly recommend doing this tour and taking time to appreciate all the passion, family and history that goes into a traditional food. We look hope our travels bring us back to Poland to explore more with Krakow Urban Tours!

  • Vasileios Konstantakopoulos

I joined the pierogi cooking class and I loved it! Our group was hosted by Alicja, a sweet, energetic and funny person who is good at teaching and coordinating the class. After we gathered, we walked in the local market to buy our ingredients and then went to the Krakow outskirts to make pierogi in a very peaceful and beautiful place. Pierogi making has been made easy and fun and I’ll always remember that great memory of a great activity!

  • Tash Zibell

This was an amazing experience. I was lucky enough to be the only one booked in on the day so a personal one on one cooking experience. Monika was fantastic, explaining everything as we walked through the markets including helping me to buy some items. Walked me through public transport and then had a great cooking lesson in her home. It was a great time, one that I left very full from and excited to make perogi when I returned home.

  • hani Z

The tour: more food than we could eat, all of it delicious. I’m a pretty picky eater but had no trouble at all. I even found the borscht to be excellent (and I don’t like beets). The tour guide: Monika was knowledgeable, attentive, and open to discuss any topics the group brought up. More than this, she was incredibly patient and caring with my mother, whose age and asthma necessitated her to take it slow. Thank you! Take this tour!

  • fred sutton

The Nowa Huta tour is not to be missed. A fascinating exploration of the Soviet era history in Poland. Monika was very knowledgeable and the conversation comparing our lived experiences of this time in world history was eye opening. The architecture, food, markets, and religious stories on this tour were wonderful. Post trip Monika shared other interesting information to be explored, extending the enjoyment of this day.

  • Sakinah Ismael

The perogi class was just wonderful! Our hostess was lovely and kind. Alicja was most gracious sharing her family recipe for perogi. It was a hands-on experience and extremely worthwhile. We loved going to the marketplace with the local sellers. It was fantastic. This tour was really the highlight of our trip to Krakow. Can't wait to make them when we get back home and have delicious pierogies with wonderful memories!

  • Grace McGrath

After being abroad for four months this year, I am very pleased to end my trip on such a wonderful, cultured-driven experience. Tomasz was the perfect host/chef, making us feel welcome in his home. We enjoyed his knowledge of the city and Polish traditions while tasting many local snacks. We will be making these delicious pierogis back home and HIGHLY recommend this class for all looking for an authentic experience.

  • Sam Dennis

We had such an amazing time with Tomasz as our guide/instructor! He taught us Polish phrases, took us shopping for ingredients, gave us lots of information about Krakow and walked us through the entire cooking process. It was a very hands-on class, which we loved. It was great learning from Tomasz and meeting his wonderful family. We plan to make the pierogi again from scratch for dinner tomorrow! Highly recommend.

  • Jack Matthews

We had such a great time with Aneta. The whole day was fantastic! First we had a great experience going to the market and buying the ingredients we needed for our delicious pierogis. We then headed to Aneta's lovely house where we ate some delicious Polish snacks. The cooking lesson was fantastic and we had a great time chatting to Aneta learning about Poland and Krakow from a local. Can't recommend this enough.

  • Benjamin Panton

Krakow Urban Tours were so good I actually ended up booking 2 tours. Did a fantastic ‘food by foot’ tour with Mateusz who was an excellent guide and did a great introduction to the food of Poland with some delicious drinks and meals. Then I did a brilliant discovery tour with Tomasz who gave a great overview of the history and culture of Krakov. Can’t recommend them enough. Really good guides and tours.

  • patti metosky

Thomas was prompt and so delightful, informative and fun. He first gave us a vocabulary list of items we needed. We practiced our Polish then went to a 700 year market; this was one of the highlights of our trip. After we ordered our items, we went to his home and made, from scratch, pierogies. I will never eat a pierogie again as these were, by far, Perfection. I would recommend this tour to everyone.

  • Peter Rodel

My Son and I had such a great time learning to cook pierogies with our friendly host Alicja. It was a highlight of our trip to Krakow. We started with shopping for ingredients in the market and attempting Polish in the process! Then on to the lesson (with beer and snacks), cooking Pierogies and then eating them for lunch. Delicious. I would highly recommend the whole experience and Alicja is fantastic.

  • Vanda Hutchings

Thank you Aneta for taking us around the local market to buy produce and welcoming us into your home. Your warm and vibrant personality made us feel at home instantly. We really enjoyed making pierogi, sharing stories of different cultures and sitting down to eat as though we had known each other for ages. An absolute must visit for anyone who enjoys good food and good company. Thank you Aneta!

  • Melanie Ringel

We had such a wonderful time with Alicja. She was so warm, welcoming and accommodating- I am a picky eater and she was able to change her plans and make it special for us. The market was a great touch and more meaningful to learn about what food is typical and available. So lovely being welcomed into her home. And- the pierogis were the BEST! She went above and beyond!

  • Chelle Madden

What an incredible experience we had with Chef Tomasz! We learned how to make perogies, which was a first for many (if not all) of us. Tomasz was patient and clear with the instructions provided, and made the experience so enjoyable with added stories and details behind the culture of perogies. Would recommend this 10/10 to anyone interested!

  • Becky Pietrenka

Aneta was so wonderful - extremely personable and friendly! We went to the local street market, learned how to take the public transportation, and we got to see her cute apartment! We enjoyed fresh snacks and dessert from the market and made the most delicious pirogies I’ve ever tasted! HIGHLY recommend booking this while in Kraków!

  • John StClair

My daughter and I had a great time with Alicja on this cultural and food experience. We enjoyed shopping for ingredients at the local market, seeing more of Krakow on the car ride to her house, and of course learning to make, and eating!, the delicious pierogis. Alicja was a gracious and friendly guide/host. Thanks so much!

  • Paul Stubley

My team at work and I took part in Tomasz's pierogi making class. It was a brilliant team-building activity, and the pierogis turned out great! Really tasty, already looking forward to the last batch I have in the freezer. Tomasz was knowledgable and friendly and led the group really well through the activity. Thanks!

  • Janie Isch

We enjoyed an entertaining and informative shopping and pierogi cooking class with Alicja. She added a touch of humor to make our experience a memorable one. We would highly recommend spending the time for this tour. If so, I hope you enjoy it as much as my husband and I did.

Overall, the experience was pleasant and pretty straightforward. It was really nice to be able to make and eat traditional polish delicacies. Transportation was provided to the cooking class location after the market, but not for returning to the city center.
