Very nice atmosphere for a fine dining experience. I was there for a special occasion (New Year's Eve) so there was a set menu but choices to choose from for all tastes. Warm and cold appetizers, soups and salads too. I had gnocchi with white wine sauce and shaved black truffles. Best gnocchi I've eaten...ever! For the entree I had a rare cooked filet that was one of the best and softest fillets I've ever eaten. It was cooked to perfection since many times in restaurants when you order a rare steak it's not so rare. This was seared on the outside and perfect on the inside. For this special night on the dessert menu was figgy toffee pudding. The Tiramisu which is a standard dessert, both were delightful. This is a top Notch restaurant that is a dining experience to be savored and enjoyed, don't rush through your meal. The service was impeccable, attentive but not intrusive, knowing when to let you enjoy your meal and when they were needed for service. The EXTENSIVE wine list may require a deeper dive on return visits.

Wheelchair accessibility
No steps to overcome, elevator to the restaurant and gentle slope to the dining area. They might have to move some tables although this was a special night so they may have been extra seating setup. If wheelchair could easily fit through all doorways. I did not have to use the restroom so I cannot comment on wheelchair accessibility.

I wish I could give more stars! La Grotta is my favorite special occasion restaurant in Atlanta. It's unique in it's location. It's easy to miss. It's on the bottom floor, basement level of a small condo building in Buckhead. It's been around for over 40 years and is consistently rated a top Atlanta restaurant every year. The courtyard has beautiful trees, flowers, and lights. There are also heaters for cooler weather. The food! Outstanding! I would recommend asking specifically for Bulent as serverwhen you make reservation and don't even bother looking at the menu. Just ask him what you should order. Service is impeccable. Go for the tuna carpaccio to start, either mushroom risotta or sacchetti (or both) for entrée. You can order both in half portion. But don't forget to add truffles. Melt in your mouth amazing! If you don't want pasta, hands down go for the bone in veal. The creme brulee is perfection, as is the espresso martini. Aperol Spritz or Negroni are great Italian options to have before dinner arrives. For dinner, ask for a wine pairing. You can't go wrong. This place is more than just dinner. It's an experience.

This spot hands down serves the best Italian food in Atlanta. The menu is packed with delicious options, and here's the cool part - you can totally mix things up. If you're eyeing something not listed, but you see they've got the ingredients, just ask. I mean, there's no veal parmesan on the menu, but I knew they had veal and could do chicken parmesan, so I gave it a shot, and let me tell you, their veal parmesan is one of the best things I've ever tasted. And pasta lovers, you're in for a treat! If you can't decide, they'll even whip up half of one kind and half of another. The service is a blast – quirky, fun, and they really take care of you. As for drinks, they're super refreshing and hit the spot. Bottom line, you really can't go wrong with anything on this menu. If you're up for some top-notch Italian grub in Atlanta, this is the place to be, and the best part? They'll make it your way!

I've been to South Philly and North Boston for some amazing Italian food. But, this place takes the place. It was the best Italian food I ever had. I loved my Manhattan. The calamari were soft and melt in your mouth, covered in delectable marinara. The prosciutto was melted like butter on your tongue and don't get me started on that burrata. The escargot was my least favorite appetizer since it was overwhelmed by the spinach--still flavorful and amazing...don't get me wrong. I just wanted to taste that amazing white wine garlic sauce with the snails. The waiter did not lie when he said the caesar salad was the best I would ever have. I got the Scaloppine Di Vitello Alla Grotta and fell in love with the baby mushrooms (and I hate mushrooms) and easily cut meat. For dessert, I died on a cloud with the tiramisu and decaf espresso. I highly recommend this place and will come back again.

On April 24, 2021, party of 5 of us went to La Grotta to celebrate my bro-in law's birthday! As soon as we arrived we were greated by the valet, we then took the elevator to the ground level to the restaurant. It was a pleasant surprise on how different it look and it had a beautiful garden area outside as well! The host and wait staff were prompt and friendly. Everyone was attentive and offered suggestions and our food and drinks were brought to us in a timely fashion. Everything was delicious!! For appetizers, we got the seared calamari in spicy tomato sauce and the portobello mushrooms with goat cheese, spinach salad topped with pine nuts. For entrees we had 2 orders of chicken parmesan, 2 orders of the lamb and 1 order of the filet of beef! We really had a wonderful experience! They also took care of the cake that my friend dropped off earlier before we arrived at the restaurant. Thank you guys so much! We will come back again!

Disappointing is an understatement. To celebrate a major career achievement, we went to dinner at La Grotta. To begin, the restaurant is in an older building. While the entrance is nothing to look at, we were pleasantly surprised by how nice the interior of the restaurant was. But this is where the excellence stopped. The food is mediocre at best - I would actually say on par with an Italian chain restaurant like Olive Garden or Carrabbas but at 4x the price. Our waiter was unable to pronounce a single item on the menu and was rather rude and disruptive throughout the meal. I am genuinely confused where such positive reviews come from in regards to this restaurant. Save your time and money and bring them to a place with actual excellent Italian cooking.

I wasn't too sure about going into what looked like an apartment or old Days Inn, but so happy I did. The food was amazing. The service was outstanding. And the atmosphere walking out of the elevator was beautiful and cozy. Make sure you have reservations. There is a large and lovely outside seating area. As well as an inside dining area that looks onto the outside dining patio. We ordered many items off the menu. The Bolognese was my favorite, but everyone around the table loved everything that was ordered. Can't go wrong and Can't wait to go back!!

I grow up in Sweden where Italian food and restaurants are at the highest standards. A lot of Italians migrated to Sweden years back and they brought with them their food culture and passion for life. I got to try this restaurant that has been on my list for while. For me it was amazing and super friendly server. Which is the door to everything. How you are welcomed and treated always matter to me. I would for sure recommend Sacchetti formaggio e tartufi neri was amazing. And I am sure going back for it. After coming from New Orleans and trying their mussels it wasn’t the same. But that’s me comparing New Orleans mussels with ATL. You try it and let me know. I also tried Veal Grotta which was delicious. For sure to try it again Pappardelle with lobster, amazing delicious and for the dessert Tiramisu just melted in my mouth. Cheers, BN

La Grotta Ristorante is not just a restaurant, but a fine dining experience. Its location is comparable to a speakeasy below an apartment complex. Once the elevator doors open to La Grotta, the 5 star experience begins. From the atmosphere, to the service, and the finally the food and extensive wine menu. I have had the pleasure to dine with La Grotta on multiple occasions & the owner, Christian Favalli pays attention to every detail & his staff is top notch. The food & service is amazing & if you are looking for a fine Italian dining experience, you will not be disappointed. Reservations required & valet parking provided.

LOVE this place! My boyfriend and I went here for our first time and it was definitely an amazing experience. We are young, so we’ve never experienced a fancy 5 star restaurant before. We took an elevator down to the cellar where the restaurant is. The place gave me ratatouille vibes, in such a good way! Our waiter was super nice and he didn’t mind recommending the best options, which I really appreciated since it was our first time. I picked out what he recommended and LOVED it! The gnocchi and ravioli was sooo good! Will definitely be back again!

How did this place not win a Michelin star in Atlanta? La Grotta has been here for over four decades and hosted countless celebrities for an amazing Italian dining experience. This is my go-to place for a special occasion and for many others it is a regular dining venue. The only thing I will say is that I wish they would enforce the dress code.

Years ago when I asked my Dad what his favorite type of food was, he said 'fresh, made from scratch pasta'. So when his sisters came in town to surprise him for his 60th birthday, we brought him here. We had a such wonderful experience and everyone raved about how great everything was. My husband and I now go ever year on his birthday to honor his memory and La Grotta helps us remember him by doing everything just as impeccably as they did on that first visit. I will forever love this place, not just for the food but how well (unbeknownst to them) they help me honor his birthday!

Usually I love La Grotta. Last night was an exception. They made us wait almost an hour and a half for a table though we were early for dinner. Everyone was waiting a long time! Did they offer bottled water? A drink from the bar? Anything? Absolutely not! I was celebrating my birthday and I was very disappointed in the service. For a restaurant this expensive and prestigious, I really do expect more. Food is as always amazing. However, the long waits and loud, crowded space makes this place overrated and it will be a while before we go back.

This isn’t the first time I’ve enjoyed dining here. Along with the romantic and warm atmosphere the food is always made fresh and taste absolutely amazing. It is truly authentic Italian and has a sense of a ‘home cooked meal’ sort of feeling for each dish. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was our server acted rude and it was rather awkward when I asked him questions. This very well good be because he’s Italian and was just a straight to the point type of guy, I still didn’t enjoy him. Other than that, I highly recommend this place!

I’ve heard so many great things about La Grotta and my boyfriend took me for an early valentines dinner. I was so excited for this. First of all, they have valet parking, you go inside and take elevator all the way down. We were sat down as soon as we arrived (reservations only) our waiter’s name was Billy and he is probably one of the best waiters I’ve ever had!!! He was very helpful and guided us through the entire menu along with great recommendations. I had wild bore and it was a 10/10 my bf had a thick cut of veal also amazing!! But my absolute favorite thing about La Grotta was the dessert, the BEST tiramisu and torta I have ever tried.

August 2020: If you love real Italian food made with real fresh pasta and real fresh ingredients then this is the place for you. It is a small restaurant with a very intimate setting and the best Italian food you will ever eat in your life. All of the waiters are very attentive to your needs. Dress code is business casual and reservations are a must! Update: 11/19/2021 : Another year another fantastic meal. Update: 8/20/2021:. Another Anniversary Dinner, The food still remains the same as it always has, FANTASTIC. I am sure we will be back in 2023.

I used to love this restaurant, but it has changed drastically. Going out for dinner is about great food taste and the experience. The service used to be exceptional but is not what we got last night. We definitely expected more from this expensive restaurant. Even the menu did not have the choices that they used to have. I am very sad about it. It was our son's 29th birthday. Wishing them prompt change so it is great again.

So when you first walk in, it is obvious that you are in a higher end restaurant. It is a great location and beautifully decorated. But I must say the greeting process needs to be worked on. We had to wait a long time to even be welcomed by a hostess/waiter. The service was pretty satisfactory and the food was delicious, but they need to work on how they greet, seat and organize their guests. The seating seems to be a bit random and scattered which can be a very awkward when walking to/from your table and to the bathroom. Overall this restaurant is ok.

  • Chris Robles

I was treated like a VIP from parking to seating to eating. I have special dietary requirements & the waiter suggested an off menu item that was exactly suited to my needs. The part that surprised me was the bill was actually less than I thought it would be once the tally was complete. I ate outside on a beautiful night in complete comfort. They even have heater stands. Do yourself a favor, indulge in an evening here!

This place is hidden inside a old apartment and the path to the restaurant is very dingy. Sat outside with pretty lights and heaters. They have most of dishes in both appetizers portion as well as main portion. The wine list was extensive. They have specials for every night and also their regular menu. The food was good, all of it was very fresh. The tiramisu was little too strong for my liking. They have complimentary parking.

An amazing place. Time after time they get it right. And not just right. They get it perfect. Our dinner this past Thursday was roasted and grilled duck confit and roasted shrimp risotto. Wow! We finished off with ricotta cheesecake. I don't think you can find better in Atlanta. And let me not forget the outstanding service. Professional and friendly. It's a don't miss restaurant.

Amazing! Being of Italian descent, it felt so nice to find homemade pasta served with such fresh ingredients! The kitchen is very accommodating, you can order two half portions of you can’t decide on one. We went to La Grotta for my husbands’s birthday and our server Demian could not have been kinder, he recommended food and beverage options to us that we loved. We got a dessert a two glasses of champagne on the house to celebrate. We will surely return for more amazing dinners and we will definitely ask for Demian!

Average experience! The threat of sharing as an up charge all over the menu but who doesn’t share Italian food? No anchovies, no cannoli and why the issue with asking to have some butter? We had to ask for items twice, servicer reaching over plate of food to pour water, had to move my chair so they could carry table and chairs in for an extra set up, loud and difficult to have a conversation. We’ll spend our $200 elsewhere.

La Grotta was divine! The food was incredible and the service was even better. We had the Burrata and Sacchetti as appetizers with a Caesar Salad. The Sacchetti was heavenly! This is my second time here and I’ve loved the service and food both times. Really great wine selection too! If you’re willing to spend a good amount per person, this is a nice place to celebrate a special occasion. I went for a birthday and they even served complementary champagne at the end! We had the melon and prosciutto for an appetizer (a nice size for two people) and the calamari. For the entree, I had the quail which was really juicy and tender.

  • Gerardo Cardenas

This was simply an amazing experience. From the entrance to the table, everything felt really luxurious. The food itself was great, and the staff was so accommodating. They were prepared with recommendations, and had some ordering tips for us. I got to try the really delicious European black truffles. A lot of the food is seasonal, so it's worth it to go back and try something new. Beautiful restaurant with a delicious menu. I'd highly recommend it!

  • Raquel M. H. Crump

What an amazing experience! This restaurant is tucked away in Buckhead in the bottom floor of a residence. This restaurant has been around for 41 years with the original chef! We had snails, quail, and the lobster pasta. Each was delicious and just the right about of filling. The staff is extremely kind and humorous. The decor and ambiance is welcoming. I’d suggest going during the week to avoid crowds but you won’t be disappointed.

Unassuming Northern Italian restaurant tucked away into a residential building. The wait staff was very welcoming and had a lot of experience. Very knowledge. The food was amazing! All fresh, quality ingredients. I started off with the beet salad and for my entree had lobster over house-made pasta. I finished dinner with a fresh peach cobbler with a scoop of vanilla gelato. I can't wait to return!

A local institution. Your first visit is a little confusing, take the elevator to the garden level and you’ll see! First time visiting in a year and we sure have missed this place and the fantastic staff. Enjoyed the mushroom risotto with black truffles as a shared appetizer and the lobster paparadelle, but I have never had a bad meal here. Save room for dessert!

Special dinner with my dear brother. The "off-menu" veal chop parmigiana was incredible. Never had anything like it at an Italian restaurant. Truly takes veal parmigiana to another level. Beyond the food being fantastic, both our servers were great. Took wonderful care of us all night long, making our time together even more special. Highly recommended!

La Grotta is a lovely, elegant restaurant with incredible food, a fantastic wine list and wonderful staff. I used to routinely dine here when I lived in Atlanta 10 years ago.
