FRESH ALTERNATIVE AWARD CLEAN DELI AWARD I visited this tiny delicatessen with a longtime bestie. We stopped by May 15th-a sleepy sunny Sunday afternoon around 2:15 pm. The shop was not busy, but steady. It’s located on West Lake street in the center of Minneapolis, and holds some of the finest freshest tastes you’ll find anywhere. The secret here are the original owners’ recipes, which were curated over time. A liquor store is attached as well. We didn’t go in, but apparently they have a large selection of different liquors. A small hole-in-the-wall with traditional meats and a huge selection of different cheeses, olives, marinated mushrooms, specialty nuts, jams, jellies, bbq sauces, specialty crackers, coffees, drinkables, and water crackers. They also have fudge for your sweet tooth! Obscure selections keep you on your toes! Huge chalkboard shows you all the sandwich selections, and their daily specials. A tiny table with 2 chairs is a quaint place to wait for your order-and be ready to wait a little bit, because everything is made fresh for you, once you order. You don’t just get a pre-made sammich that’s been laying there for hours! We ordered 2 sandwiches: The Club, which was ham & turkey piled high with cheddar and arugula & a special mayonnaise with thinly sliced red onions and tomato on steamed ciabatta bread. Also we ordered the Ham & Jal, Ham, cheddar, arugula and tomatoes with a spicy homemade jalapeño jelly on steamed ciabatta bread. Both sandwiches were amazingly delicious and the bread warm and wonderful. Yummmmm We complimented our meals with a couple selections of “Uglies” brand potato chips, we chose BBQ and Jalapeño flavors. They were great! Just as good or better than the regular brands. Well folks lemme tell ya: this is a diamond in the rough and you’d best try it out if you’re in the area. Neighborhood is bouncing back strong after a tough couple years and it shows. New updates, new feel to the area. Minneapolis once again does not disappoint! We also picked up some ‘sample cheeses’ small inexpensive cutoffs from the larger hunks of cheese just right to grab a few and take home for a cheese plate taste-test. I grabbed a container of marinated mushrooms (sorry no pic- they were so good they were inhaled)! These mushrooms popped in your mouth, you could tell they were so fresh. And the marinade! SO GOOD. Everything was so noticeably fresh that each bite was a pleasure! I will be back - because I need to try more of their freshly made sandwiches. Service presented nicely wrapped in white butcher paper. Very clean tasting. Friendly and efficient staff. Prices were around $10 for each meal. WTP AWARD ✅ Highly recommended! We WILL be back!

I try to shop in my neighborhood. But rarely go here anymore. A brand said they carried a specific beer. They actually do not. I decided to grab a few things anyway. As is the main reason I do not usually go here, I grabbed the “almost cold” items from cooler. I get they want to keep costs down. But if u need cold beer now, it is never cold. Do not bother. We sell beer where I work and when we get it colder than it is at this place, we actually give it away. Because its not cold enough to be sold and enjoyed reasonably.. Now, i go to checkout and two items rang up quick, i have my own bag ready putting my wallet away-instead of popping the two items in bad, he grabs another customer their items and bag up against mine starts ringing them up. The space was smash packed like an intercity trashy convenience store. I had to stand at an angle and bag myself. Unthoughtful disregard. Reckless. Great & huge selection for the warmest cold beer in the area with the elision of being quality environment, product and service. The neighborhood deserves better.

Honestly this used to be a 5. I love their selection because they have so many different things to try. Recently I stopped in there was a gentleman that was busy working (normally they are). As soon as I stopped in the gin section and began googling reviews he stopped and came and stood right next to me and watched everything I did. He did not ask if I needed help. He did not make small talk. He did not even say hello. He stood and watched me. When I looked up at him he began acting busy and after stating that wouldn't buy anything because of him thinking I was stealing he laughed. I work for a liquor store across town part time and understand that loss prevention can be an issue but there is an appropriate way to go about it. Ask how somebody is doing, ask if they need help finding something. I was in plain sight right by the registers...I do not carry any purses or bags. This was ridiculous. My boyfriend and I stop in here once a week or more and will no longer be going in there.

I came in late, card declined. They let me grab my other card at 9:57, my car was next to the door so it literally just turned 9:58 as I was coming back and the security said it was 10. My phone's not gonna be wrong about the time and my watch is a minute ahead, it was not 10 and my stuff was already rang up, dude literally saw me come in the first time run out and run back within a minute from the register, and they were still ringing people up behind him so if my sale is currently open on the register it's not like its shut down... I just came from work so I know how it looks when everyone is tired and wanna go home but I literally just gave better service to people all day at my job I just wish people acted like they wanted my money too, I guess I don't get paid enough either so why do I complain even.

This review describes their new location in MSP airport. It's been a while since I've been so angry and stormed out of a restaurant. But that was my reaction after selecting a deli sandwich and snack and then patiently waiting for 15 minutes while other patrons were served. I was at the counter to get a glass of wine and pay for my food but I was invisible while no less than 8 employees busied themselves straightening kitchen utensils, staring off into space, and occasionally helping the woman sitting next to me (but continuing to ignore me). I shouted as I walked out that if they didn't want to serve me, I now understood that loud and clear. I had finally understood the message and was taking my business elsewhere. Screw this place I will never spend a dollar here.

  • Michael Hawkeye DePerez

It was well stock and they hadn't DariusThe store was pretty good as far as all Walmarts are concerned but the internet advertise that it was currently available in this particular store and when I got there they took the time to look in various areas of the store and also went in the back to check if they had any in stock in the back finally they said they must have sold out right away regardless of what the internet had posted they also told me when I asked that they could not do anything like price-matching for me because it wasn't their product, it was a private seller but I think they could have at any Walmarts store that they're selling in. So I walked away and bought some other ones that were just as good but twice the price. From $2.50 to $5.75

How can I even begin by telling you guys because when I mean this place is fantastic!☺ I always come here and everytime I enter this place it's always the best experience because the staff 10 out of 10 they will help with suggestions on what to drink if u need a helping had but other then that they have a wide variety of bottles to mixers and pop but the real deal is the cheese shop next to them wow if you thought they service was great @ the licor store think again the people who work here are the sweetest people I have ever met love love love they cheese quality not quantity please come.down and see it for your self and stay well god bless you all

I love this shop. It's close to uptown/ lynlake neighborhoods and has such a great community feel. It's cleaner and more welcoming feeling that the Hennepin liquer store by the cub foods and core power on lake street. Often there is someone promoting something in there so there are free wine or spirit tastings. Great selection all hand curated by the small business. Now open Sunday's! There's also an adorable cheese and sandwich shop in there. It's been a while since I poked my head in since I'm usually on a booze mission so I can't speak to price, but is another perk for a one stop shop if you need booze and snacks for a gathering.

Excellent customer service and product selection. Independently owned liquor store that has not sold out to the mainstream wines and spirits you will see at most liquor stores. You will find some real gems here that you can not find anywhere else, it is obvious the staff is well educated on product selection. As you enter there is a $6 wine wall on the left side, you will find some real bargains here on wines. Pricing is fair on all wines and spirits. The sandwich and cheese shop attached to the front of the store is really well run as well. Delicious fresh sandwiches and cheese.

  • Rik Olsen

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place before! I’ve been a regular customer over the 11ish years I’ve lived in uptown. I have never once had an experience that was less than stellar! Lots of dog lovers here, and even one cashier always and I mean always remembers how many dogs I have, regardless if they’re with me or not and sends treats with me home even! The cheese shop is also bar none, one of my most favorite happy places. Employees clearly have a passion for quality and customer service. My dogs literally tug me into here as soon as we get close by.

  • John Carroll

With its excellent selection of craft beers, affordable and delicious wines, and wide variety of liquor, this is my favorite liquor store in all of Uptown. Their staff has always been super friendly and knowledgeable, and recently sold me a bottle of special released beer directly from their personal beer stash. I always find exactly what I am looking for, while also finding something new to try. And of course, I love their accompanying cheese shop with its high quality cuts from local farmers and artisan breads and snacks. This is a staple to the neighborhood!

  • Christopher Gunlock

I haaaate this liquor store, but I am commenting as someone that only buys beer. Their beer section is so cramped that you can't even pass someone between the aisles. You literally have to turn around back out wait for them to pass. And the selection isn't even that good, most of it is not in the coolers and you can't buy singles. Also, one of the cashiers is such a Boy Scout, he cards me every time and makes sure to take a good look at my eyes to see if I have already been drinking. So lame.

  • Ben Cross

Just moved to MPLS and this place is right down the street from us now, and we are absolutely in love. The cheese selection is absolutely insane and I couldn't believe how affordable they all were. Can't wait to try some of the sandwiches here. As far as beer and wine go, they have a huge stock, and the staff were VERY friendly and helpful with all of our questions. We stocked up with 6 bottles of wine. Four tallboy 4-packs and a 6 pack and were out the door for less than a hundred bucks.

  • Nick H

Honestly, this review is just about the cheese shop. Don't get me wrong, the wines and spirits side of the store has never done me wrong. But I love a good cheese shop. The staff are super friendly. There's a good variety to the cheeses you can't find most other places. Want to try a new cheese but don't want to commit to buying a normal amount? They have little baskets of smaller "stubs" of cheeses that you can buy for a few dollars. And the best part is that they make sandwiches!

  • Eric Larsen

Love this liquor store! They have loads of good whiskey and other liquors, plus LOTS of wine, and lots of coolers for beer/bubbly/RTDs/40s/cider/sake etc. Something people don't notice often is that they have a solid selection of craft beers, but they can't fit all in coolers so there's a second section of warm craft beer- give it a look! My one complaint is the hours: LWS closes at 10pm. Also, parking lot is tiny and the store is on a system of one-way streets, just so you know!

  • Ryan Hampton

Fantastic store. I think of it like a museum of wine & spirits where you can actually buy the art. Andy is the curator and does an amazing job selecting interesting, compelling, delicious wines and spirits for the limited space. The 6 for $36 rack has some delicious and amazingly underpriced finds, and is worth a look at least once a week if not more. Staff is friendly, helpful, and generally very knowledgeable as well. Can't recommend enough; I buy almost 100% of my stuff here!

  • Stacie G

I really like this place, the people are extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. Even when they didn't have the brand of beer I was looking for, they knew what it was, where it was from and what other liquor stores in town might have it. The cheese shop is AMAZING (former wisconsinite)- I highly recommend the truffle cheese. I think given the store's location, everything is in the expected price range. There's pretty much a small premium on everything due to the convenience.

  • Bret Setran

Wow I just got into my car and this dang sandwich smelled too good so I started CHOWIN. They even asked if I needed napkins and i haphazardly said ‘no, I have them at home.’ You should see my face right now it’s so gross and full of food But for real what a nice gem of a spot with really nice people working. They even have cheese samples! I have only tried one sandwich but it SLAPS. I’ll have to tell all my friends so I can have more excuses to come here.

  • Bella Grace

They have a great special on wines! 6 or more bottles for $36. I go here to buy wine in bulk for parties that is actually pretty good quality and not barefoot! They don't have as much higher priced bottles of wine so it's not the best place to pick if you're looking for an exquisite taste. They do have a ton of beer and liquor options. However, i couldnt find craft Minnesota beer like Bauhaus that are getting popular.

  • Mike Walton

Very convenient. The selection is decent but not amazing. Same for the prices. Honestly, the staff too. They really are friendly enough, but they aren't going to change your outlook on the day. If you're a craft beer fan, try looking behind the front most items in the cooler on the back wall. They sometimes alternate between a couple different items to make up for space restrictions.

  • Audacious Cole

Thy Highlord Majesty KING Sultan Emperor of the Nine Realms himself went here for lunch today to try the sandwiches with a friend.. who also happens to be a girl.. well a ravishing woman rather you but we'll save the details for my next review *cough* long story short.. THESE ARE THE BEST SANDWICHES IN ALL THE LANDS (Best in the Universe actually). MIND BLOWN!

  • Anil Harbaran

Selection is large in terms of craft beers, wines, and liquor. Space is clean, and staff is always friendly. Also their wine deal, 6 for $36 is a pretty incredible deal. Their deli though is definitely what sets them apart, delicious hot and cold sandwiches, along with any other snack (meat/cheese/crackers) you could think of -- all with a super nice staff!

  • Mary Lou Rice

Let the Entire World know the vast majority of sandwiches at LWSpirts were created by me, Mary Lou. I brought up sales in a faulty cheese shop 33% in one year. Made Best Cheese Shop in TC in City Pages 2013! My expertise and knowledge of Cheese and food service is extensive. Now that I’m retired I think credit is due! Of course chances of that are minimal!

  • CJ Picha

Staff is very friendly and helpful. Selection is great. They have a small cheese and sandwich shop up front with an amazing selection of cheeses complete with descriptions of the cheese and wine pairings. Amazing! There are places closer to where I live for me to buy beer, wine, liquor and cheese but this place is worth the trip! Definitely recommend!

  • Zack Kahn

This liquor store achieves quite the balancing act. In a mid-sized retail store footprint they cram in an extensive wine, liquor and beer selection (both craft and macro) and still manage to have a great little sandwich and cheese shop. The sandwiches are a hidden gem, seriously, make sure you grab one next time you're in here picking up booze!

  • JP

Went in to grab a sandwich at the attached little store. I ordered the Granny's apple turkey sub for my boyfriend. Couldn't resist taking a bite. Omg so delicious!! The store is super tiny and cute. Filled with chocolates and candy and bottled sodas. Price is not bad either. For a big sandwich and a soda it's around $7-8.

  • Andrew Morris

Great beer selection from locals to non-Midwest beers, Trappists, imperial stouts, etc. Cute sandwich shop as you walk in too… the only thing is one of the guys working there was completely rude about their bathroom not being available to the public since Covid… still a good city liquor store that doesn’t feel trashy.

  • Phish ErMate

Extremely rude security guard, we agreed to leave with no protest after they refused to sell to us and he continued to escalate the situation and yell and antagonize us as we left. Manager and employees are fine but they need to fire that security guard that is looking to cause problems for the store and customers.

  • Lee Kafkas

Great selection of craft beer. Good selection of wines. The 6 for $36 special has a good variety of drinkable value wines. The cheese shop is a hidden gem of the neighborhood. They sell some intriguing specialty foodstuffs along with their well-curated cheese and meat selections. Don't miss their sandwiches!

  • Rick Wildfan

This is a review of the MSP Airport shop only. SOMEONE added an extra $1 to the TIP section. Now I know its only $1 but ALICE must not be happy with her hourly rate and decided to put an extra $1 so when it showed up on my credit card statement...there it was. Could be and accident but just a heads up.

  • Michael Freedy

Being new to Minnesota, I think the whole separated liquor store is a pretty weird concept, but I'm glad we've been trying different ones to see what's inside because the cheese shop inside has some of the best sandwiches you will ever try. And I'm saying that after just moving here from New Orleans.

  • Anthony Maki

Expertly curated craft beer selection and a surprisingly vast wine and liquor catalog within so little square footage compared to its Minneapolis peers. Staff are knowledgeable and recognizable (they don't turnover), though at peak times you may not be able to get a word in edgewise (understandably).

  • Shandra Jensen

I love so many things about this store from the cheese to the wine selection by themselves, and then to the great staff in both the cheese store and wine shop. Its always nice to see the same friendly faces in my local shop and stop in even for just a sandwich as they are something to rave about.

  • Andy Holmaas

Lake Wine & Spirits has a wide variety of beer, wine, liquor, and ciders. They have a friendly staff and an exceptional cheese and sandwich shop in the lobby. The prices are slightly higher than surrounding liquor stores but the store is immaculate. Worth a stop for the wide variety of options.

  • Patrick Broderick

I visit the sandwich shop in Lake Wine & Spirits weekly for their Greenway sandwich. The staff in the sandwich shop are extremely nice, they know me on a first name basis and know exactly what I want and how to make it. The liquor store is also pretty good, a very extensive selection.

  • Katie Knauer

The sandwich shop connected to this place has the best cubano I've ever had! Bit of a wait but worth it. The liquor store itself has a pretty great selection, pricey but expected for the area. Update 2022- new favorite sandwhiches: Spicy Rachel The granny Lucky lady Heidi-ho YUM

  • Mark Mafar

It's literally a block away from my house the staff is all very courteous and knowledgeable about many different kinds of spirits and wines they also have a cheese and meat shop next to it if you'd like to pair your wonderful Spirits with some fancy cheeses or Meats

  • Caleb Murphree

Great neighborhood feel to this shop. Excellent wine and craft beer selection! Good amount of liquors, although some specialty items may not always be in stock. Definitely check out the cheese shop - they have some AMAZING cheeses, salsas, and sandwiches to go!

  • Savanna Janicki

They’ve got everything I ever need and their sandwich shop is great! Also I don’t like tomatoes and when I ordered it without the woman working suggested I do the sweet peppers instead and she was so right! Definitely ordering them on my sandwich every time.

  • Ethan Stein

Great wine selection. The attached store has the best sandwiches and a great selection of cheeses and other charcuterie. The sandwiches are all made to order, with top notch ingredients. If this was closer, I would have a different sandwich there every day.

  • Mallory Strehlow

I wish I could give both the liquor store and the cheese shop their own 5 star rating! The liquor store packs a lot of good options at good prices, and the cheese store is a genuinely delightful treat. Try the Heidi Ho for a sandwich that's just amazing.

  • Spencer F

Classy with a high-end feel. Not just some liquor joint around the corner. Welcoming atmosphere, lighting & decor is unique and very aesthetically pleasing. Staff is friendly and their selection of wine, beer, and spirits is tremendous. Highly recommend.

  • Tessa Eddy

Great liquor store with an excellent selections of not only wines but the best selection of ciders in the city! I was able to find ciders that I haven't seen at any other place. The staff is great and they have a rolling 6 for 36 wine wall - great deal!

  • Laura Rinker

On the fancier side as far a liquor stores but without any markup as far as I can tell. It has a great little cheese/ snack shop attached. Perfect place to go pick out a drink and date night treat. We often walk past 2 closer stores to go to this one.

  • Jim Xiong

Vast selection of wine, local beer, craft beer and domestic beers. Whats great about place is they also have a cheese and meat store to pair with the amount of wine sell. Conveniently located on a corner to allow adequate parking and easy access

  • Imagine Joy

Their 6 bottles of select wine for $36 keeps me and my partner coming back. Great selections! The rest of their alcohol is reasonably priced, especially compared with other liquor stores in Uptown, but i almost always go for the wine. …

  • Sonya Burnett

They're really expensive they don't have very many malts in other Liquors they have a lot of wine unnecessary so much wine and then it's just outrageously priced I don't know I guess it's just Uptown for you they don't even have dollar shots

  • L. Marie Projects

They have so much variety in their store, the staff is awesome, knowledgeable and provides fast efficient service! The cheese shop has wonderful imported food and makes the best gourmet sandwiches. It my go to spot whenever I'm in the area.

  • Joe Piscaschmoe

Prices are high , which you won’t find out on certain things until you’re checking out because they don’t bother to put up-to-date price tags on some shelves. That’s unacceptably bad business practice, and makes me look at this place in a

  • Aubrie Gould

I absolutely love the Heidi Ho sandwich here. At some point I should try their other sandwiches but I just can't help but order the Heidi Ho every time. One of the best sandwiches in the city, at a steal of a price with friendly service.

  • Leika Schmidt

Place is well stocked. Organizes by country. Has lollipops you can bring home to your kid after purchase. I've been buying alcohol here for a while because it's convenient. They're great in customer service too. Parking is usually easy.

What a cool place with much more than booze. Met some really nice people, sampled and bought some cheese. Great selection of bourbon, unfortunately, most already in my cabinet. I look forward to my return to try some deli sandwiches.

This is my favorite sandwich shop in the Twin Cities. They use quality cheese, bread, meat, etc. AND it's reasonably priced. Also, the people who work there are passionate about their products and it makes shopping there fun.

  • Jeremy Hop

Best craft beer selection anywhere in the area. I work across the street for years and just finally stated picking up my brews here. A little cramped but better to have lots of choice than wide empty space. Great job folks!!

  • Patrick Kelly

Parking can be a problem. Pretty good selections from the liquor store side and a very respectable cheese shop attached. I usually get a sandwich and it's good but I can do it myself so I like it but it's on the pricey side.

  • Andrea Thompson

Been here a few times and at every checkout experience, the person at the register says, "Is this it?" What do you mean "Is this it?"... I'm buying a nice bottle of wine and gin, like $65 = "Is this it?" Lame. Very lame.

  • Jean paul Paquette

I really like the pasta and deli items they sell, and the staff members are really friendly and helpful. The only downside is that their liquor prices are much higher than average.

As a liquor store it's better than most. But the cheese shop has the best sandwiches in Minneapolis! I go here more for the sandwiches than I do for booze.

What a fabulous shop. They always have the most amazing cheese, speciality meats, olives, crackers, fresh dried pasta and the best freaking sandwiches.

Great selection, amazing prices, and you can't beat the location. Staff is a little bit "Boy Scouty" for my taste though. The French wine is the best!

Killer beer selection, sometimes you gotta do some digging through stacks though. They carry Citadel Gin, and the wine selection has a great variety.

Good selection of both local/craft and domestic beer and liquor. Friendly people. Don't forget to check out the cheese shop and try a sandwich! Yum.
