I'm happy we chose to stay at LAAC for our DTLA visit. The front desk host, Teresa, warmly greeted us. As first-timers to the club/hotel we appreciated her taking time to give us an overview of the hotel, its history, and its amenities. She even sent us a list of similar clubs/hotels in San Francisco for us to look into because we had no idea these places existed! We chose the hotel for its proximity to various restaurants, Donut Friend, Veron, Grand Central Market, Bradbury Building, and Walt Disney Concert Hall. All were an easy walking distance from the hotel. The added comfort was being able to swim in the pool and soak in the Jacuzzi after a full day of walking. There was ongoing construction in the hotel but it wasn't noisy nor did it inconvenience us. We look forward to returning to LAAC one day to explore the hotel when it's fully renovated.

Grand Central Market, Bradbury Building, The Broad, and Walt Disney Concert Hall all within 20-25 minute walking distance from LAAC.
Walkability
All the DTLA places we wanted to visit were walkable from LAAC. It was nice to leave the car in the hotel garage for the duration of our stay and just walk around to all the places we wanted to eat and see. Bonus is having the pool and Jacuzzi to soak and relax after a day of being out.
Food & drinks
Enjoyed vegan treats like Donut Friend and Veron nearby. So many more eateries to explore next time!

So this is my second review because google wouldn't let me update my original review. First off, you can forget about calling the hotel. No one ever answers the phone. Not the office, not the reservation line not even the front desk. So when you call about getting a $1,000 CHARGE AFTER STAYING ONE NIGHT, no one will be available to deal with it. And whoever Angela Penneylane is, the cut and paste "Your feedback is crucial to us" response on my first review, and thanking me "for my patience and understanding" would ring far less hollow if you ACTUALLY PROVIDED CONTACT INFORMATION TO GIVE FEEDBACK AND DEAL WITH A MASSIVE OVERCHARGE ON MY BILL! All of this on top of a tiny, dark room, a spa that closes at 5:30PM (so don't bother staying here if you're hoping to use the hot tub) and the general lack of communication means you should definitely look elsewhere. And now just for funsies, I'm going to bet that the response I get to this review will start with, "Thank you for being our valued guest. We appreciate your remarks about your stay." which I cut directly from their cut and paste response to my last review. That's not customer service, it's just lazy PR.

The rooms were ok, a little small but alright. The location is not it. Downtown LA is not a place to experience the city, but we were there for a wedding, so this is where we posted up. The service was divine except for this one overnight desk clerk. She was incredibly rude. So if you stay there, know that the doors lock at 9 and you have to be buzzed in. There is a slot for your key card but it doesn’t open the door, you still need an employee to open the door manually. This clerk was always in a bad mood and yelled at us for pulling on the front door. She always seemed inconvenienced to open the door, and took it out on guests. Everyone else was amazing. Just know if you try to enjoy the club facilities, there are a bunch of rules, so please be read up on them before you go to the pool, gym, etc. Also, at the wedding, the bridal party got robbed in the hotel during the reception, because they left their purses in a common room on the 4th floor.

I was blown away by this hotel. The most friendly, hospitable staff. Located in an area were there was many things in walking distance and getting to and from places further from an uber was easy. Now lets talk about the room. The room is absolutely gorgeous. Very classic looking, comfortable and inviting bed. Our room itself was spacious and had everything we needed. The bathroom is small, but it was no big deal. We went to tour the build and if you have a chance to do it while staying, please do. There are many things to see, our only regret was that we didn't have time to utilize all it has to offer. Our last day before we checked out we enjoyed breakfast in there beautiful restaurant. The next time we need to stay in LA, it will definitely be there. This is a hotel that does not disappoint.

This place is an absolute joke. I joined in February this year for the gym, the cafe and the childcare. Within one month the childcare was gone, within two months the gym was 'closed for renovations (they put some equipment in the basement, 9 months later gym is still closed), then the cafe closed for some unknown reason. I paid extra for my daughter to have swim instruction which is the ONLY reason why i was staying a member after all the amenities i joined for had gone. Then i was 'denied access' to the swim class/pool because the billing department had not charged my card on file with them. So much wrong here. If you are thinking of joining this place for the gym or family component, be warned it is a complete joke and a total waste of money.

I had a wonderful stay at The Los Angeles Athletic Club, a historic hotel with excellent service and amenities. The front desk staff were friendly, helpful, and professional, and they made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. The hotel has a lot to offer, such as a fitness center, a spa, a pool, a restaurant, a bar, and a library. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and elegant, with modern amenities and vintage charm. The location is also great, as it is close to many attractions, shops, and restaurants in downtown LA. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a luxurious and relaxing experience in the city of angels.

Room was supposed to be ready by 4pm and I arrived at 2. Okay, I bet they will be ready in an hour or so. Unfortunately not! I saw all of the people I traveled with get their rooms before me even though they arrived after me. After a long flight, is it too much to ask for a quiet room? Apparently the answer is yes if it is the Los Angeles Athletic Club. The front desk lady hands me the managers card and I called the number. After many rings it goes to voicemail. Whoops! The mailbox is full and can’t accept new messages! That told me a lot. The room is what I expected - tired, worn but functional. I would NOT recommend and you should look elsewhere! PS - I will say Melissa was helpful and sweet and ultimately got me my room.

During my stay at the hotel (July 8th - July 9th) there was an administrative issue in their system with my booking. Upon checking out this resulted in me not being able to receive an invoice. I was informed that I would receive this later via e-mail. Unfortunately, after reaching out multiple times myself I still haven't received the invoice - The hotel is not responding at all! As this was part of a business trip I need an official invoice to declare my costs, which I am now unable to do. This alone has made the experience horrible and not something I would recommend to others. Edit: One week after the hotel has responded (see below) I still have not received the invoice. With all due respect, how difficult is it to create an invoice and make sure it's been delivered...

Rating the LAAC as a gym: Been a member since November and can say with confidence this membership is a scam. The gym itself is a joke and the machines look like they were scraped off of the street. For the price you pay you should have top notch machines. Instead of paying $157 a month just walk right in, no one ever checks your membership and could care less. Within my first month someone started charging my account to buy stuff at from the shop. Overall, staff is clueless and clearly uninterested in looking like a decent establishment. Classes are okay but definitely not worth the membership cost. If you like old machines, old facilities, and old people, this gym is for you. Canceling my membership.

Good day, dear Leadership of the Hotel. The rooms are fine, the service is fine, the territory is excellent, near by a lot of not expensive restaurants, shops etc. The Administrator is very friendly and asked if something gone wrong. The green apples in the lobby were very delicious. The breakfast for different tastes and the service during the breakfast on high level. Wonderful piano in the restaurant on the 3 floor. The atmosphere of the hotel is very romantic and classic. Thanks. Recommended hotel.

We have stayed at the LAAC a number of times over the last 10 years and have always found it to be a Great Value for the price. It is more of a Boutique Hotel which we prefer to the Larger, Big Box Hotels, which can start at nearly twice the price for a Single Room vs the nice sized Suite that we usually get. The neighborhood is decent, BUT older. HOWEVER, it is one block to the Metro and a few blocks to the MOCA, The Broad and the Disney Auditorium. As Public Transportation People, it is a Great Location for us.

I have one night in the hotel. I arrived at 2pm and the room wasn’t ready. Understandable. At 4:20 the room is still not ready. No one was doing anything about it. I was waiting for 2.5 hours already and it was past checkin time. You can count yourself how much value you are getting if you are staying here for one night. “Managers” don’t pick up their phones and their mailbox is full. Housekeeping staff were not responding to the inquires from the front desk at all. Yeah, it’s clearly a mess. At 4:50 after some arguing and with a help of another receptionist I got a suite as a solution.

Upon arrival I was greeted by Melissa, who was super friendly and helpful! She made my friend and I feel right at home and told us if we needed anything at all to reach out to her and she'd make it happen! I also saw/heard her greet every gym member that came in by name which is very impressive and again - makes you feel welcome and at home! Loved her energy and she started off our short stay in LA on the most positive note. The hotel and amenities are amazing, but people like Melissa are why you come back! Thanks Melissa!

We had an enjoyable stay at Los Angeles Athletic Club Hotel. We stayed 2 nights and it was perfect. The hotel room was large and nicely decorated. The athletics facilities are top-notch. The food at the restaurant was superb and the staff were really great. Thank you very much and congrats to all that made our stay spotless. Car park is available at a reduced rate in the adjacent building.

Worst room I have stayed in in over 3 weeks traveling and the most expensive. Dark dingy room even with the lights on, wallpaper had big scuff marks all over it, rusty dirty shower, chipped walls and floor with marks in the bathroom. Payed more for what I thought was an upmarket hotel to be safe as a solo female traveler but was hugely dissapointed and a wasted of money. Only good thing was the front of house staff were lovely

I’ve been a member for almost 2 years and I have a long overdue shout out to Melissa, Abe and Shaun. Immediately upon entering they brighten my day by their genuine greetings and banter. In this virtual world it’s nice to just to take a pause and be a human with these special people. Also for those who are reading and considering membership .. if you work from home, or live alone , want a safe haven, social events, legit spa… JOIN

I love the club and the choices of things to do. However, the food was a rip-off! They'd automatically charge tax, "service fee" and set "gratuity" to each order, when the host had not earned it or may have not done the service nor order properly. Those factors raised the price drastically! Also, the parking gate has not always worked right and opened according to how it should have worked out.

Haven’t even checked in yet and I already regret booking. I specifically booked this hotel because they have a spa and hot tub. I called to find out what time they close (assuming it would be around 9/10pm like every other hotel with a hot tub that I have ever stayed in. Nope, this one closes at 5:30pm! Talk about a bait and switch.

My after-work sanctuary in DTLA. The history of this terrific building and organization should not be overlooked. I wish they could convert to the late-night DTLA market as well, both with regard to their athletic and social venues.

I had the most amazing time at Invention inside LAAC for Jazz Night on Thursdays. I couldn’t resist getting the bacon wrapped dates with this flavorful blue coco rum drink.
