This turned out to be quite the unfortunate experience. After arriving at the unmarked and unmanned camp sites we had to let our selves in the gate. Nearly getting stuck several times because our truck and trailer (26ft) did not fit. We finally found a spot that he directed us to via speaker phone. Turns out we weren’t as good at navigation as we thought. It was our first camping trip ever. The site was not large enough to accommodate the 30ft that it touts. We had to make cuts to a very small tree in order to fit. Rookie mistake again I suppose. Long story short, we have been threatened and cursed at. Yelled at and assured that me and my children were going to be BANNED from every campsite in the state. I offered to replace, remove and repair the area several times. All he wanted to do was curse and make threats. The owner is a very spiteful and angry man. Thrice denying our requests for water. Being our first time camping, we had no idea what we were doing. I guess all the tires, and discarded sofas and trash everywhere is ok. But our small cut sent this man over the edge. There’s over flowing porta johns and empty 50gal drums all over the place. I am just in shock at how unwilling this man was to hear any kind of remorse, reason, contrition or communication. What a horrible experience.

Myself, 3 kids and my sister camped here for 2 nights. I have to say it was beautiful! The campsite was large, private and clean. It fit our 12 person tent, changing room/shower tent, tables chairs etc. And even had a great little tree are that my kiddos loved to hang out in. The best part for me was all of the hiking paths. We spent nearly all our time here exploring the beautiful campgrounds, sometimes with several very friendly goats trailing after us, which if you ask my kiddos was deffinately the best. We even found a beautiful clearing with a tire swing! The owner was friendly and very helpful! He greeted us at our campsite and made sure we had what we needed. If you enjoy "roughing it" without needing to drive hours outside of San antonio I would highly recommend you try this campground! By sunday my kids were begging to return again next weekend. And I know we will deffinately be back soon!

Booked through Hipcamp; We located our campsite early afternoon (site 6) and then returned to our campsite later that night. Upon return, the gate to the campground was wide open with no lock in sight. This campsite was advertised as ‘private’ and the host informed us that the gate was to remain ‘closed and locked’ at all times. The entrance was not at all secured. Immediately upon this discovery, we attempted to reach the host, but our phone call went straight to voicemail. Due to the uncertainty in the lack of security, we did not feel safe staying the night. We tried to relay our concern to the host the following day, but the host was unreasonable and unwilling to reach a mutual consensus in resolving the issue. It was stated by host that “everyone was in bed asleep”…with that logic, who closed the gate? Host, I have a suggestion- invest in a Smart Lock that’s not so easily removable.

This was an awesome find. Traveling thru needed a place to camp so we could visit downtown San Antonio. Found Lost Woods thru Hipcamp. The details in the add describe exactly what this campground is. A primitive camping spot, yet close to many attractions. We stayed 4 days here and it was wonderful. Piece and quiet, little road noise to be expected as we're in town but once you drive thru it's like being in the backwoods. James was a great host. Checked on us and it was a pleasure meeting him. If you enjoy primitive camping (no hookups, water, etc), but yet close to the city this is the place. Very fair and reasonably priced. Thanks James.
Restrooms
It does have a porty potty close to entrance which was clean.
Dog-friendliness
Website says dog friendly, we don't have one but it would be fine.

James' land is a real hidden treasure. Great getaway that's very private but you don't have to go far to enjoy it. All the sites are nice and private. We ended up staying at site 8 per James' suggestion and it was perfect. He was very helpful navigating the property as we got there after sunset. It's secluded, well covered, great open space around the fire ring, and at least 3 great flat spaces for a tent. We set up a canopy with our outdoor kitchen and set up out truck tent which was about 50ft off the main fire pit area. It kept out tent smoke free, and gave us a chance to enjoy some adult time after our daughter went to sleep. Perfect place to spend a few days unplugged. Looking forward to going back soon.

This is a lovely private hidden paradise of wild woods very close to San Antonio city. It has beautiful trees, dirt roads, and rough camp sites which make you forget you are so close to the city. It’s location is so convenient that you don’t need to drive far to get back in touch with nature for a few days. It’s owner is very organized, caring, and accommodating, but prior registration is required to come onto the property. It is a private campground that is maintained for visitors’ safety. It has been a beautiful natural setting each time I have visited, and I hope it remains that way as it is becoming more popular.

My husband and I along with our 3 kids camped out here for the first time, I’m not much of an outdoors camping kinda gal and was a bit skeptical, BUT it ended up being really nice and no issues, if you’re boujee and want something that comes with light and water connection this place isn’t it, it gives you more of a real camping experience. However we are still in this city so you will hear noises of cars and traffic because there are houses near by. No issue for us though, the kids slept through it and for the price was worth it . Kids ages were 13,7 and 3 we would definitely come back.

I love how you can stay in town and still find little paradise with tons of trees. It was a bit tricky to find, but when we got there, it is all that I hoped! I always wanted tight secluded area with many trees. If you are free style camper, this is perfect for you. I wanted to feel like I am in the wild forest with no toilets, water or cabins. Just camp site!!! We came prepared with everything we needed and spent the best night! We could hear noise from cars distantly, but it was soothing to know that we not too far from home, when we ready to go home. Thank you James for amazing stay!

Extremely peaceful ‍♀️the host really made us feel welcome, he was very helpful when I got lost. I love that they do safety checks every so often. They do it in the best way, just a stroll through, “like if you need anything we’re here” but at the same time they respect your privacy. It’s a convenient area, secluded, beautiful and the camping area’s are set up in a very unique way. Absolutely love this place and can’t wait to return.

This place is so perfect for the first time campers and those who just need to commune with nature. They have sites that are right off the trail and some tucked into the site. All sites provide natural shade and have stone fire pits!! Just be sure, like with any outdoor activity, to have bug spray. The mosquitos are not bad but they are there. But all the trails and wildflowers are just wonderful. Definitely coming back with my kids!!!

I love this campground not only is it easy to book but the host(James) is so nice and understanding. My husband and I had booked for our 1 year anniversary, and we’re unable to make it due to the weather and a graduation in the family, and James was very accommodating and allowed us to reschedule for the following day. I will always recommend this place to anyone who wants a day away and relaxing. Will forever be a camper here!!

A challenging course including some brief but steep inclines and declines, some low hanging branches, and some ground that required some careful footwork. Not an easy course, but it was a lot of fun and it was good training. The race I attended last night (Luau 5K) was a lot of fun and the course was very well marked.

Great little get away not too far from home to tent camp with my kids and dogs. Lovely property to explore and the owner is super accommodating. We’ve had birthday parties there as well as other fun events with friends. My girls love getting dirty, catching frogs, and planning their own treasure hunts!

  • Allison Walker

Great place to camp close to town! Several of the tent sites feel secluded and are surrounded by beautiful forest. It’s a fun property to explore and see the animals, and the owner is very friendly and was very quick to answer our questions and give directions as the sites are not physically numbered.

  • Fred Nichols

Wonderful camping opportunity within shouting distance of downtown San Antonio. Great rates as well as many great camping sites. Wooded trails for those so inclined. Peace and quiet with easy access to local sites and events. Been there many times and always enjoy the ambiance.

  • Drew Gladden

James gave me all the information I needed and then some. He was great to work with, site was very reasonably priced, and if you’re worried about finding your campsite, just ask him. The woods are dense but the site is a nice clearing. Overall, plan to stay again!

  • Schuyler Fica-Goetzel

4stars if priced accurately for ZERO AMENITIES. $35 a night way too expensive. No picnic tables, no bathrooms, no showers, no laundry. There was a porta potty that was disgusting and there was no TP. Highway noise is constant. Wasps everywhere. STAY AWAY, SCAM.

  • Jeremy F

Lovely sites, not a bad site in the place! Sites are well spaced and spacious, interspersed with trees and landscaping. Lovely Spot of Nature. Great park! Lots of foliage. Inexpensive. Pleasant oasis on the edge of San Antonio. Would stay again - recommend

Perfect week end getaway. Camp sites are private and spacious. Host can provide water and firewood, had such a good time we extended our stay. Lots of trails and the goats and pigs are cool to see. Hike around to find the hidden tire swing. Great host!

  • Angela Greene

Absolutely love this place. James is amazing, so hospitable. It's beautiful!!!! The goats, hogs, and chickens are such a delight, made my day having the goats come up and say hi! Stay here if you can, i would live here if it was an option.

Camped at Lost Woods in a tent. Was quiet, peaceful and secluded. LOTS of trees and brush. Is pet friendly, and alot if land to explore. Bring your hiking boots 5 stars. It was a great experience, will definitely come again. …

  • Caitilin Summerhays

Our kids have camped here a few times with their youth group and have always loved it. It’s easily accessible to highways but tucked in to a beautiful part of San Antonio! Fantastic owners who are quick to reply to any problems.

  • David

This was a terrible experience. The sites are not numbered. No signs. It looks more like a homeless encampment than a campsite. Had a very uneasy feeling. Garbage overflowing. We left.

  • Katie McCleary

Friend had her 40th birthday here. Something about a bonfire plus nature in its simplicity Owners are Salt of the Earth kinda people! …

Fun place to explore around. Pretty crazy that it is so close to town yet once you are in there you feel like your clear out of town.

  • Roel Gonzalez (not_your_average_ro)

The place is really growing with all the work the owner has been putting in! Doesn't even feel like you're still in the city limits.
