I’m visiting Phoenix, from Northern California, in town for the two day Metallica concert. I was wondering what to do around here on the day in between sets. I wanted to have a good, light breakfast and some coffee at a special spot, so after a little online searching I decided on Lux. I arrived just two or three minutes before breakfast service ended and the place was PACKED. A really cool dude weaved through the crowd and pulled me over to bar, saying he would take my order there because he didn’t want me to miss the breakfast. The breakfast and coffee arrived quickly. I have never been to any restaurant or coffee shop with such great staff before, this blows my mind. On top of all of that, the breakfast sandwich was simple, but probably the best I have ever tasted. The coffee was great too. I am really understating how good that sandwich was.. It was just what I needed after a night of heavy metal. I also got an espresso martini. I’m not one for these types of drinks but it was so damn good. Every time I visit AZ, I am floored by the friendliness and quality of the people and businesses.

The zucchini bread was dry and hard but the coffee was good. Music was good. Seating gets a zero from me. There are a bunch of empty tables inside but they belong to the “cocktail area.” The non cocktail area has all the seats taken and there’re just a bunch of small chairs everywhere with no tables. I saw a lady and her friends sitting on chairs in a circle, like you would in a AA meeting, with no table in the middle! She was hunched over with her plate on her lap and she seemed to be struggling to eat. So weird. After being rejected from the cocktail area I asked if the patio area still existed and they smiled politely and said “for you, you have to go around” because I wasn’t buying alcohol.. I — nevermind. And I guess I didn’t mind sitting outside since I could hear the music and the air was nice and my coffee was warm, even if the lights from the cars entering the parking light kept blinding me, but what bothered me was that I couldn’t even use their WiFi. It didn’t extend to the tables in the parking lot. Shocker. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless they fixed the seating. I’m not sure what all the hype for this place is about.

I like a lot about this place. Coffee and Pastries. The End..... Seriously, I need one of these - I just don't want to overhype it and blow this spot up. Our local host says it can get crazy busy already. So if you have gotten this far into this review, the secret is out. Coffees I tried: Iced Caramel Black and White, Hot Caramel BW, and Iced Velvet Almond Milk BW. Pastries I tried: Ginormous Coffee Cake, Lemon Poppy seed Muffin, and Strawberry Pecan Scone - they were all fantastic - My favorites of that bunch - Iced Caramel BW, and the lightly sweet crumb layer through the entire coffee cake. It's really one of those places that just makes you want to come back... coffee/food addiction much? The cooked food looked amazing coming out of their small kitchen - and all of the staff were all smiles. The location has hidden dining spots with no real consistency or order to the layout - it's awesome. Parking looks pretty limited here so beat the rush, and ask google for help finding it!

I have no idea why this place is as popular as it is. The coffee here is bad, been here several times, and it tastes burnt each and every time. The food is also pretty mid. The worst thing about this place though is how OBNOXIOUSLY loud they play their music. Everyone ends up having to shout over each other, which makes it even louder in the shop. I can hear everything through my noise cancelling earbuds, and my ears will ring if I'm in there long enough. Please tell me why a coffee shop is playing music at club/concert volumes. The place is always packed and just not the vibe to either work or socialize since you can't concentrate nor hear anyone. It's also not a great grab and run place either cuz it's always busy. Please tell me why anyone goes out of their way for bad coffee and atmosphere :| At least the pastries are ok, I guess.

When I lived in this area I came to Lux at least once a week - I love it! It’s a great atmosphere; I would go there to do some work on my laptop, outside of my house. I love the huge (communal) tables - if it’s at a slower time, you can spread out or you can potentially meet new people at the busier times. If you’re doing work, there are so many places for you to charge your electronics which is a huge positive! There is only one bathroom (?) so the line can get a little long and it can get a little dirty sometimes. I love the grilled cheese so much, it’s delicious! And the baked goods There is also alcohol, which is sick. Just overall a great place!

A very unassuming, slightly tricky place to find if you don’t know what to look for. There is no sign to indicate where to go and the entrance faces the parking lot behind the building. That being said, once you’re inside here it is easy to get overwhelmed. Their menu is extensive, with a full cocktail section in the south corner as well as the traditional cafe experience when you walk in. I ended up ordering a raspberry cheese danish, a lemon cranberry scone and a butterscotch banana muffin, along with an almond milk chai and a red eye. The butterscotch muffin was the highlight of my morning! So delicious and sweet with fresh banana on the bottom. This place feels very too cool for school but still had great energy and would highly recommend stopping by on your visit of Phoenix.

So this was almost a perfect experience. My initial interaction with the front counter and while I was asking questions was cool. But then when I went to order my food, the young man definitely had an off putting attitude. Like many people in the reviews have said; it's this "too cool for school attitude". It's unfortunate how one interaction can definitely throw the rating off. I was happy that even though he told me that breakfast was over; there were still brunch items on the lunch menu. However, the young man with the hat in the back? He had good energy. He was very friendly and helpful. The food was overall good but the pancake could have been a little bit warmer. Bacon was good. Like other people have said, the front room is too loud. I would say it was overall a positive experience, and I will definitely be back to try it again.

Flew into Phoenix to visit a friend and this was close by. It's a little confusing inside only because they have such a great space and just one register, but the staff is super friendly. Smiles all around and I overheard multiple staff members asking people if they've been helped and what they're waiting for. On top of that, when they took my name for my drink, the 2 who spoke with me made sure they called me by my name. I'm not used to it, but it's a touch to be great with service. Their cold brew was great black and had great flavor. It's not watery, it's not a weak roast, and it's not packed full of any flavors that outweigh any others. Great danish too

By far a gem in Downtown Phoenix! Super tucked away and the atmosphere swing when walking in was rad! The pastries were incredible! Got the strawberry thumbprint and the pb Sandwich and the matcha drink. The layout of this establishment is super cool and the fact that they have a speakeasy tucked away and connected through the cafe is very genius like! The staff here was super friendly and helpful. Lines can get long here but it's well worth the wait! They also have a lot of couches, chairs and tables to get your work done! It is loud but very manageable. Parking was a breeze. Would highly recommend! P.s please take your phone calls outside because nobody wants to hear your conversation

I was in town visiting a friend and she took us to Lux Central. It was a great atmosphere. I had the Margarita it was tasty and not too sweet! My friend had the espresso martini and I think I can say with confidence that that was the best espresso martini I've ever tasted!! We also got coffee drinks to go that were also amazing! If I make it back to Phoenix in the future I will make sure to try some food because the menu looked great! Definitely stop in to Lux Central if you are in the area, if you're not, make the trip!!

Cool coffee shop, they roast their own so you know the quality is good and they have a pretty extensive menu! Good pastry selection too and good menu that varies between breakfast, lunch, dinner options. Entrance is a little hidden from the Main Street around the corner in the parking lot, and it can get busy at times but a hidden gem in Phoenix nonetheless

When I approached the counter I asked a question about which farmers juice was available and the server speaking to me seemed bothered by my questio and prompted the person behind me to move ahead and place his order before me. Homemade whipped cream tasted like coffee and I do not enjoy the taste of coffee especially on pancakes (???). So the fact that it was spread over the majority of my Dutch pancake/fruit made it unenjoyable. It was very loud and little seating which is great business for them but extremely overwhelming for anyone with sensory issues.

I’m sorry to say I use to come here a lot. It’s always busy every time I come and nowhere to sit. Bad experience with the barista I asked for extra ice with my drink and she was giving me an Attitude and kept going off on me. I told her it’s not about the money and she keeps making me look like I don’t know what I’m talking about. Every coffee shop I’ve been to never have I been treated like that. Even my friends got upset because i told them how I like it and they made a big deal. I’m so upset how I was treated. I just wanted my coffee my way…. Coffee isn’t just black and white and always the same way.

Lux Lux! Love this coffee shop, the brew has so much flavor and the environment is industrial and rustic. Concrete floors with brick wall. Unique multi-dimensional light fixtures with a combination of couch and comfy chair seating. Bench seating also. I had the grilled chicken snadwhich, so fresh, incredible arugula flavor with a side salad. The art here is awesome, it has a great vibe . The atmosphere looks just as awesome as the food and coffee tastes. Stefan at the front talked to me about the area and the food, super quality nice service and really gave a homely feel. Will be back. Thanks guys.

Definitely a stupid hipster vibe. Like they expect you to know what to do even if it’s your first time in. The food is good but overpriced. I got the BLT and it’s $16. Cold brew is good. I sat at the bar because I needed a table to do work and the bar tender told me I couldn’t sit there unless I ordered a drink or if I sit there I have to be willing to get up for people who do order drinks…dumb if you ask me. Many other reviews have said the vibe is we are cooler than you and that is definitely the vibe.

You can find yourself here at any time of the day drinking a $2.50 cup of some awesome brew with unlimited free refills. The food selections are excellent from fresh pastries to splattered eggs and potatoes or else their house specialty macaroni & cheese with peppers and - the Cheesiest. If you find you've had one too many cups of coffee and the jitters take hold, you can step into the full service bar to have something for what ails you. This business began in a much smaller shop about five years ago, and expanded into this beautiful place with art works and amenities that separate the men from the boys, so to speak.

I stopped coming here for a while because the service was horrible. I decided to give it another try with my friends today and it was even worse. All the baristas there were so rude to my friend ordering coffee. They were loud and humiliated her in front of everyone while she was placing an order. I never had a chance to grab her name because I was in shock how someone can talk to a customer in that manner. She had dark brown hair and has an absolutely disgusting attitude. We bought the coffee but never again will I return. There’s so many other local coffee shops in the area to support.

Unbelievably crowded for a coffee bar, horrendous music mix, impossible to converse comfortably. I asked for a light-ice Americano and got a cup packed with ice and a tablespoon of coffee on top. I don't see the appeal. Somewhere more mellow next time.

This place has a cool and hip atmosphere, nice places to sit, with the loud music maybe not the best place for conversation. There are a variety of desserts, coffee, and lunch items to choose from. ☕️ Coffee house by day, bar by night. Definitely a unique place to enjoy a cup of coffee with a fresh pastry 4/5 ⭐️s because my boyfriend and I felt the espresso did not have the quality taste that we expected. We visited during the day and both of us said the music was little too loud. Too much like a bar all day long.

I ordered iced matcha honey and a croissant. Their croissant was VERY buttery, with the perfect crisp! It was baked to perfection. Love it so much. I wanted to finish it but was too big. If I had known it would be that good, I should have paired it with a hot cappuccino. Anyway, next time, for sure! Their iced matcha honey was mediocre, although I should have probably went with strawberry matcha just to try it. Love the vibe, a little loud, but it’s what makes the energy here different. I highly recommend this place! Will def come back.

The Lux Cafe in Central Ave in Phoenix has a vibe that keeps me coming back. Whether it's for a morning coffee and breakfast, afternoon lunch, or late night meal and drinks. So far the pastries I have chosen have tasted freshly made, and the grilled chicken sandwich on panini bread is DELICIOUS! One thing you have to consider before visiting, is the space inside is very crowded, and at times you might be rubbing shoulders. It's very vibrant with always a diverse crowd, which I feel adds to the ambiance. Service has been good the few times I have visited.....batting a 1000. Recommend :)

  • Terry Herbold

Love this place. The pastries are out of this world and ventured off and got some items off the menu on last visit which were really good! Staff is always extra friendly and attentive, even they guy that was just squeezing lemons, gave us water, asked if we wanted anything else and cleared our plates! Always a favorite to go on weekends.

Great pastries and breads. I got the 3 egg scramble and the peach and cream cheese bun. I am not easy to please as I used to be a pastry chef and I was thoroughly impressed. The combo of flavors in the bin , not overly sweet and the cream on top was to die for. I could have eaten it with a spoon by itself. Also the miche, the bread with the salted butter that came with my egg scramble was delicious. I do not like bread and butter, never have, but this was excellence. If you're in Phoenix, give it a try.

The service is very professional and casual, it was a pleasant experience. The house made chai tea is great, hot or cold, and they even recommended adding cinnamon and vanilla, which added a nice flavor depth to it. The baked goods look and taste great as well. The atmosphere is extremely chill and laid back and people watching never stops. The seating is comfy and comfortable there’s a lot of it. I highly recommend this establishment when wanting to get a nice coffee or relax with a some baked goods, or bring your laptop and work from here!

Really cool unlabeled spot. Great iced coffee and delicious breakfast, although I was bummed my eggs were burned. It was a little confusing when we entered because a barista told us to not order with them at the front but to go to the bar at the other counter.. then that bartender told us to go to another room in the back and order there. The guy that served us was very nice thankfully but it shouldn’t be confusing to order food and coffee. I would definitely come back next time im in Phoenix!

Hello, I was at your cafe last weekend in Phoenix, let me tell you that I had a great time, the place is fantastic. What surprised me most was how a group of people you have there do things, with great joy, always with a smile on their face and with all the kindness. I would like to mention some of them: Lourdes, Tito, Raquel, Marty, Alexis, and last but not least the beautiful GRECIA. I will come back. That's a fact.

I was in line by 10:53am to get breakfast but the cashier was spending 2-3 mins with customers talking about life etc and by the time it was by then, it was 11:04. There was only 5 people in line. He blamed the kitchen when he should had taken responsibility for making me late to place my order. I now have to drive elsewhere for food. **update** As I left, I saw the people prior to me in line getting their breakfast. What a poorly ran establishment

Decent breakfast. Biscuits and chorizo gravy with eggs and a fresh jalapeno. Biscuits were hard and dry, but the gravy was excellent. Pricy. $14 for main dish, $2.25 for 1 jalapeno sliced in half. Okay, I’ve been here multiple times with a friend and it’s just gotten better. The local artist works are neat! The space is spruced and vintage at the same time. The pastry selection - wow. Although vegan options are minimal, they did cater and was so great I forgot to capture. Vegans - try the vegan pecan pear scone. Almost a meal. The specialty drinks are my go to’s. Looking forward to trying more from the menu and expanded bar soon.

Awesome coffee shop with a really fun vibe. The music that was playing was really good (a little loud though—I’m impressed by the people who were trying to read/get work done) The pancake was sooo good. Felt light and fresh, especially with the berries and the crème. The soup and grilled cheese was also a hit. I only tried the sticky bun, but all of the pastries looked delicious!

The Pasteries here are amazing! European quality and taste. The coffee was dissapointing however. They roast their own beans here and the espresso tastes like sour chorizo grease water (oddly meaty flavor) that is made worse when made into a cappuccino. The sour taste indicates that is is likely underextracted, or from under-roasting of the beans. everything else was delicious.

Absolutely love this place! Super cool little speakeasy in the back of Lux on Central. Amazing craft cocktails, fantastic service and reasonably priced. They have a specialty food menu or you can order from the every day amazing food that Lux offers. Best part about this cool joint is the people. I have never met a staff member that wasn't completely awesome!

I would have never expected the treat that I was about to experience, when viewing the place from outside. But, Lux Central offers some of the best quiche and nuanced coffee outside the Europe. A great, relaxed atmosphere that mixes old with new, casually careless, yet welcoming like a hug from a friend.

Lux is a whole vibe! There’s a lot going inside and I love all of it. It’s busy, it’s fun, the coffee is to die for and so are all their sweet treats! They have a whole food menu which I haven’t tried yet so lots of reasons to hurry on back to Lux!

Coffee is good! I heard this place was awesome but was overwhelmed by how many people were here. There was no place to sit and hang out. It seems like a pretty noisy place to get work done so I'm not sure why so many people were taking up all the spaces with their laptops. It was also hard to try and find this place with absolutely no signage outside.

Great food open late. Changed my five star review because the bartender was super loud and obnoxious. Possibly even rude, I was trying to take my tea and sit in the bar in the back. He made it more of his business than it needed to be. It's about the customers not you being the star of the show.

Has all the ingredients to make a lovely coffee place that it is. The Honey Vanilla Cinnamon latte was very good and they have a good range of pastries (the flourless chocolate cake was great). The staff were super courteous and made us feel at home. Stefan and Kara were really sweet and made our first (of the many more to come..) visit memorable.

  • Andrea Handler

By far, the coolest coffee shop around. The wide variety of pastries are unbelievable great - fresh, healthy or not so much. There's fresh fruit all over the place. Hidden rooms to enjoy a coffee. Funky artwork adorn the walls. Ice coffee absolutely delish but small and $13.50 for two. A bit much. All in all, a great experience on many levels.

Our drinks and pastries were on spot. Perfect place to chill and relax. There were tons of areas to sit and work, study or talk to friends. Cool ambience

One of my favorite places in the entire state. There is literally nothing wrong with this place. Their food is outstanding, all of their baked goods are amazing to the nth degree, and all of their in-house handmade beverages, like their coffees and Italian sodas, are outstanding. Their bar is also well stocked with some really good stuff.

We came in for lunch and the food was amazing. One of the best tomato soup & grilled cheese I’ve ever had. & their bakery items are AMAZING! Highly recommend the Ghirardelli hot chocolate.

I would give this place 6 out 5 stars if I could. We drove up to Phoenix from TX and this place did NOT disappoint. That chicken bacon jalapeno avocodo sandwich and burger that my son ate was the best meal I've eaten in a very very long time. The coffee was even top notch. Will definitely come back next time we are in town!

Love this spot!! Great place to meet for coffee or tea. They also offer drinks at the bar, food items and a huge variety of pastries and other baked items. It's a pretty hip place. I always get a vanilla latte or the tropical iced tea. They provide free refills for the iced tea! It's delicious without sweetener too.

Even during corona the service was speedy, got a hot americano with cream and sugar. Really went well with the complimentary chocolate chip cookie that’s, to literally die for. Take out is their main option and their outdoor patio has very limited seating so cross your toes if you’re hoping to sit with friends

Really enjoyed this coffee shop. Great quality coffee and pastries. I had the raspberry danish and the plum cake. They were both really good. I came back twice during my Phoenix trip. In the photo I have a latte and a cappuccino :)

If you haven't tried their egg sandwich have really lived yet? Seriously the most perfect egg sandwich ever. Nothing crazy. Just perfectly crafted and tasting. Add and iced coffee and you're done. I visit at least once a week and still not tired of it. Great vibe to hang out for a bit too.

If you are new to this whole hipster sensation, you might feel crowded and uncomfortable here. However, you should definitely try it. It seems like there are a lot of well-mannered students who come here to study so it's not loud at all. Oh. Yes, coffee and brownies were good.

1/30/23: A nice night time vibe and filled to the brim with people. I have been here before but the back area wasn’t finished. It was cozy for my group to talk with less volume to the music. The dirty chai was not my favorite, but the surrounding environment compensated.

I'm blown away with how impressive this place is! The customer service and hospitality was incredible, the coffee and treats were delicious, and the overall ambiance was just so cool and calm. I will absolutely be back next time I'm in Phoenix!!

Lux is a downtown favorite! Great ambiance, favorable hours, friendly service, nice music, fresh coffee and delicious pastries. There is something for everyone, including the famous bacon jalapeño mac and cheese! Highly recommended.

  • Christian Brabec

The food, atmosphere and staff are all amazing here. The hot breakfast items are all made with fresh and flavorful ingredients, and their selection of baked goods is fantastic. Double up and get one of each!

  • Soroosh Toraby

It's an OK place. The coffee tasted very good. Service is ok. Environment is not the best. It felt unorganized and without any purpose. Just seems like a bunch of random mismatched tables and chairs.

Amazing coffee and pastries. The croissants were perfect. The only problem was that it was a little hard to find. Maybe they like it that was but it took a minute to figure out the entrance.

This place is the best to come get any kind of work done the atmosphere was awesome. Pastries were very good as well as drinks! Parking was easy and restroom was clean.

One of my fave coffee spots in the US. The Experience + the flavors and coffee makes this place very unique, for a very specific audience. Love it or Hate it!

A cute place with decent bakery items. Not the best coffee. I make the best and strong Vietnamese espresso, but it's good to try something new.
