It's a bad experience.. 1st day) I reservated a double room. When I opened the toilet seat first time, There are dirt and waste papers. I put the flush but water wouldn't go down. There were dead cockroaches on the floor of the bathroom. The smell of the toilet drain spread in the bedroom. I tried to be patient, I spend first night... 2nd day) The next day, the bathroom light wouldn't turn on. Hotel employee would try to fix it, but It didn't operate. The cockroaches continues kept appearing. I couldn't sleep well, I couldn't take a shower comfortably. 3rd day) In the morning I looked cockroach again. I shooted it by my camera. I made reservation 4nights, I still had 2 nights. But I didn't want to stay. I'd like to get a refund for remaining 2nights. But hotel staff said she could not refund. Staff told me she never seen cockroaches, I showed a picture of a cockroach. But she kept going say "can't refund". After all I went to another hotel without refund. Instead I received madagascar underground's boss phone number. I sent a message to the boss. She said sorry and promissd a refund. I went to the madagascar underground again and I got a refund. I did not expect a three star hotel, I just expected the value of 20euros a night. The hotel may say "you were unlucky". But I hope this opportunity will improve the hotel's sanitary conditions. And I hope no one has worst memories of Antananarivo.

So I was disappointed here twice. The first time I booked a bed in a dorm and checked before via message if I can arrive in the early morning at 4 or 5am to sleep for a few hours. They told me no problem reception is there 24/7. When I arrived after 20 hours on the bus extremely tired the security guy told me that I should wait an hour until the receptionist comes at 6.30am... I insisted and got really mad so finally he showed me the bed and I could lay down. Another time I went there to eat and after having to get up again to ask for a menu, I ordered a buddah bowl. You can choose 8 ingredients and it costs 20.000ar (which is a lot). After waiting half an hour a small bowl arrived in which they just changed two of my choosen ingredients without asking me because they ran out of what I wanted. It also didnt taste good. so I'm not coming back here.

Be careful! Caution! I ate a meal at the restaurant here a couple days ago. Immediately afterwards I suffered a severe case of food poisoning. I had to be taken to the hospital and have been at the hospital for two days now. In addition to all the pain I’ve suffered, as a result of Madagascar underground’s reckless disregard for hygienic, sanitary and safe food preparations, I had signed up for a paid tour and Madagascar underground’s either criminal negligence or intentional poisoning, has messed up my tour. If you do decide to stay here I would very strongly advise not having any of the food unless you want to risk enduring what I am going through.

I stayed there for a couple of nights as it was well located and it offered good prices. Service at the counter was very attentive and helpful. Food is fresh and prepared at the moment. I really enjoyed simple staples like their fruit and muesli bowl and their croque madamme. The handicap is that service is very slow. Apart from that, I was also disappointed with their taxi pick up at the airport, which gave me a big headache upon arrival. Private transportation from the hotel was punctual and efficient. The lodgement can get a bit noisy and cold at nights.

I really enjoyed this hostel. It's loud and lively at the right times and quiet and relaxing at the right times too. I was skeptical about Malagasy, Mexican food at first, but I enjoyed eating a zebu burrito, and breakfast was quite good too. Lastly, the staff were all very friendly and attentive, and I always felt safe and comfortable.

We ate at this hostel twice, didn't sleep here. Good vibes and has a hostel cat called Kiki (I think that's his name). Would be great if they could neuter him. Lots of vegetarian food options. Mostly Mexican / tex-mex food

I first stayed here in 2015, and it's become the place I always stay in Tana. Ryan is a good guy, his staff is great, and I always meet cool people there. The Mexican food, though not as authentic as some Americans might like, is still very tasty. The place is walking distance from a lot of stuff, and you can get to everything else from the taxi bes around Tsaralalana and surrounding neighborhoods.

This is the best hostel in Tana. The rooms are expensive, but the staff is friendly and the atmosphere here is truly that of a hostel. The owners are a really nice and very helpful. They let guests use the kitchen and have a good dorm space. I recommend this place to anyone staying in Tana, but I also recommend getting out of Tana as soon as you can. There is much more to see in Madagascar.

This hostel recommended me a tour. These tour people were not responsible. Unfortunately, we flipped over on that tour, the driver died and I suffered a severe bone fracture on my ribs. My advise for you is not taking the tours that come to this hostel, this can happen to you too! Also, one of the girls at the front desk was so rude. I don't recommend it. It is better to stay in a hotel.

very cheap and friendly in the center of tana. it's more an ostel for backpackers than an hotel. bungalows are really really small and cold as they are made of woods. toilet in the bungalow are very poor, shower was cold. we had only breakfast and it was good. the owner (steve) borrow us his scooter to visit tana and he was really supportive giving us directions to money change.

Great first stop to meet other back packers. The staff are fantastic! The food is good and it's a great location. Just a little issue with water and not being able to shower which is much needed after a long flight or a day in the city.

This place is one of a kind in Tana. I’m a local so I never saw the rooms but if you just want to chill, play some board games or enjoy some mexican food : go there ! They host different kind of events weekly (gigs, game night...) so get on their facebook page to stay updated. Lot of internationals too with you wanna get social and meet people.

Seriously best backpacker option in Tana, wonderful and friendly staff, very chill vibrant vibe and decent clean rooms. Food and beverage is pretty darn awesome too. Staff are also more than happy to help set you up with ways to explore this unique country. Guarantee this will top Lonely Planet’s recommendation in the next edition …

  • yonatan shahar

The only normal option for staying at Tana. Still, dorms and rooms are very expansive as for what you get. Staff is helpful and knows English very well but the managers are very unpleasant. During a 40 days trip in Madagascar I had to stay there several times and I got the feeling that this place is managed by very greedy people.

  • Nacho Á. Ortiz-Repiso

Place quite close to downtown but far at the same time, which provide with both peace and connection to the city. It is placed in a hill next to the centre. Clean place, at least the independent high house on the stairs, rustic and very authentic. Staff is quite nice and a good local breakfast can be arranged.

The only reason to even consider this would be that you really want to stay in a dorm. Otherwise unreasonably priced at 18€, No water, no wifi, terrible food. Only plus was the personnel.

Very good vibe here as well as all the other things you want, clean, comfy beds, good food, laundry facilities, even cooking facilities but rather eat the yummy restaurant. Dorm beds from 25,000 ariari

  • Brian Gharibaan

Great staff and food, but it's extremely loud and impossible to catch sleep. Guests bring their own music and staff doesn't enforce any policy. So far for our dream week in the bungalow treehouse...

Great hostel. Really friendly, helpful staff especially Heri who helped us organise our travels in Madagascar. Good Mexican food and a fun vibe all round.

  • Jonti

Very trendy western-style hostel. Great for meeting other travellers. Located in a safe area of town, staff are amazing and speak almost every language.

  • Tiana Andriamanana

The only hostel right in the heart of Tana. We had diner with the kids there, the quesadillas were good. If you're a backpacker, this is the spot to be

Good backpacker's option with helpful staff and lovely vibe. You'll meet other travellers here, which might still be a little rare in Madagascar
