The servers were great and restaurant itself was beautiful. The food not so much. I really loved the homemade marinara sauce but the garlic bread was pretty much flavorless without it. We ordered the seafood pasta and the fettuccine Alfredo and we both had near the same sauce but it didn’t taste like anything really, so we added salt and the remaining amount of marinara to add some flavor to it but it didn’t do much. I think if the sauce had a bit more seasoning or flavor to it, it would have been delicious for sure. All the seafood in the pasta was made perfect too, the sauce just didn’t do it Justice. The lemonade and whiskey was great, the servers were kind and fast, it was just disappointing that we spent 100$ on a meal that didn’t taste like much. We will say that the calamari was delicious! Seemed fresh and went well with the sauce. Side note: there isn’t much for parking around here so you’ll definitely have to look for a lot or paid spots, that’s to be expected for the area though

Looking for a little taste of Italy in Portland? Look no further than Mama Mia Trattoria. This charming Italian restaurant has been a staple in the community for over a decade, and it's easy to see why. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with friendly staff and a cozy ambiance that makes you feel right at home. And the food? Well, it's simply fantastic. I've been a fan of Italian cuisine for as long as I can remember, and Mama Mia Trattoria definitely did not disappoint. The lasagna was one of the best I've ever had, with a rich and flavorful sauce that was simply divine. But it's not just the food that makes this place special. There's a certain charm and character to Mama Mia Trattoria that's hard to find elsewhere. Perhaps it's the history of the restaurant, or the passion that the owners and staff put into their work. Whatever it is, it makes for a truly special dining experience. If you're a fan of Italian food, or just looking for a great meal in a charming setting, Mama Mia Trattoria is definitely worth checking out. You won't be disappointed.

When I want a cozy comfort food with unrestrained carb fiesta pasta and tiramisu combo - I come to Mama Mia with the song stuck in my head. Since it’s a little on the heavy side work the carbonara, opted for amaretto cheese cake to go this time. Even though I can’t visit Europe for the foreseeable future - it feels like little Italy when I’m in the restaurant. I can’t get enough of the maroon wall black and fancy chandelier ambience. Pasta wasn’t over cooked, which is key for me, but due to the rich sauce it made it difficult to scoop the crunchy onions and savory pancetta. Personally, I like traditional ones without the cream that relies strictly on egg yolk and pasta water for lighter fare, so I hope that’s accessible somewhere (I’ve yet to find one). I also had to add black pepper, as there was barely detectable. But it’s better than other places that can end up with textured eggs, or gloppy pasta. (Hey. I ended up with that when I tried making it for first time - simple ingredients, but takes skills!)

03/08/17: 4.0 out 5 - I wanted to try the Portland Dining Month and having Mama Mia Trattoria being my first choice since I've never been. It was 1 of 27 participating restaurants that offered a little 3-course meal special. The restaurant has an old feel about it that gives to its ambiance. The place was clean and quiet considering that the place was busy (possibly to Dining Month). The food was okay. The cooks could have been a little heavy-handed on the spices and salt, but it was okay considering there is a lot to be prepared for. However, I found the staff to have provided amazing service. They were quietly efficient and attentive to the needs on my table. This alone would being me back to try something else on the menu. Overall, there's room for improvement, but I would definitely like to go back and try other things available on the menu. So if in the area, definitely go try Mama Mia Trattoria once and decided for yourself. Enjoy!

03/06/2022 The restaurant has a charming Italian atmosphere. We enjoyed Fried Zucchini, Lasagna Classico, and Fettuccini Bolognese, and for dessert, we indulged in Tiramisu and the Seasonal Panna Cotta while sipping coffee. All dishes were delightful, but the tiramisu, in particular, had a creaminess that melted in your mouth, offering a unique and unparalleled flavor. 12/10/2023 Encouraged by our previous dining experience, we returned to explore other dishes. We ordered Eggplant Parmesan and Spaghetti Carbonara this time. While the eggplant parm on its own seemed slightly salty, the pesto pasta was exceptionally delicious and gentle, balancing out the flavors when enjoyed together. The tiramisu was so exceptional that, once again, I opted for tiramisu for dessert, while my husband chose the pineapple sorbet.

We have ordered Mama Mia’s multiple times, and it seems to just keep getting better with each meal. Our absolute favorite dishes are the Chicken Parmesan and the Veal Piccata. The flavors permeate ever bite, and the meat is so tender that it melts in your mouth, even when you get it “to go”. And the pasta! Don’t even get me started on the pasta. They give you three different options of pasta sauces with the pasta side that comes with your meal: a traditional marinara, a homemade pesto and some kind of garlic. All are delicious, but I highly recommend the pesto; you will not regret it. Tonight we also tried their mozzarella sticks appetizer, and it was DIVINE! Great. Now I’m hungry again and I’ve already cooked dinner. Guess it’s time to pull up my DoorDash app. **sigh** See you soon, Mama Mia!

First experience was early dinner. Our server had great recommendations of the house made fried mozzarella and marinara. A considerate portion of garlic bread for two people with flaky crust and soft buttery center was delicious. If your party is more than two you will need a second order of bread. The at table balsamic glaze added a delicious acidity to anything it touched. The scampi noodles and cream sauce were the highlight of entire meal. The lasagna was traditional and decent but lacked the flare and flavor of the scampi. Will return! Delicious! Two Entrees, Two Apps, and Two drinks with 22% tip was around $100.

As someone with a gluten intolerance it was really great to find a spot that I could not only eat, but eat things I haven't had in years like fried mozzarella. The red sauce was delicious and the mozzarella fresh. The breading was a little oily but still had nice flavor. Had the chicken parm for my main with the gluten free pasta. Tasted like fresh pasta which was great just a little over cooked for my preference. I had the parts with the olive oil sauce to try something new. It had a nice kick which I appreciated. Overall, would gladly come again.

We celebrated our mother's 93rd birthday at Mama Mia. We were a group of 25. The planning was painless, efficient, with many food and service options. I was so impressed with the pacing of the meal, the quality of the food and generous portions. Mom was thrilled and everyone enjoyed the event, food, and the pleasant, welcoming atmosphere. Thanks Mama Mia Trattoria!!!

Did takeout a few nights ago and it was so good that we decided to dine in tonight. Got the scampi and the veal, both incredible and the cook was worth coming in person for. Had two people, seated at 6:00on a Sunday easily (reserved a table just in case, but wasn't necessary). Service was fabulous, our water cups were never empty. Dessert is as good as it comes, both the cheesecake and tiramisu were delicious and custardy. An espresso to go with dessert is essential for me, and it was a perfect pairing. tl;dr the delivery was so good we came in person and the food and service was fabulous inside too.

We had a 2.5 year old, not having it. 15 mins after ordering, told the waitress we had to get it to go because by now the 2 year old is outside with his Mom. 20 minutes later, had to get the waitress to get the food. 5 mins later the food is brought out. She can tell I'm not happy, so send the manager over to make amends. After sharing the slowness of the kitchen, he proceeds to school me on how busy they are (rest is 1/2 full). And well, tough luck. The quality of all the food was a 3, wait staff was a 5. But overall rating is a 1, because as long as the exchange is respectful, the customer is always right And clearly thus manager or owner didn't subscribe to the customer is right ethic.

The ambiance is lovely. We ordered the mozzarella board as an appetizer, it was delicious! My daughter had the lasagna, which my spouse and I both tried. It was a large serving with lots of layers. It seemed a bit too salty to us. My spouse had chicken marsala with spaghetti conpomodoro. It was tasty. The spaghetti noodles are amazing, and the conpomodoro was fresh and delicious. I had the chicken parmesan with spaghetti conpomodoro which was delicious. Large portions and accommodating staff.

Not a place you would bring rowdy children, but my 5 year old was happy there. They gave her a little magnadoodle like board to color on.

We visited for mother's day brunch and had a great meal. We ordered scones and the fresh fruit and brie to share before the meal and they were wonderful. I had the smoked salmon Benedict and it was flavorful and the eggs cooked perfectly with just the right amount of sauce. My mom and brother enjoyed their eggs and sausage. Mom loved her bloody Mary and me the mimosa. The servers were very very good. It was clear they were working as a we-oiled team. It was easy to make our reservations. This is a great place to go for a celebration. Thanks for making my mom feel so special.

I had Veal Parmesan with alfredo instead of marinara and it was so yummy!! Delicious salad(had to pay to add to my dinner) and bread and great service. I def will come back here! The only thing I would change would have the dinner come with salad. For $28 a plate it should come with salad or add a salad for cheaper price. Dinner salad is $12 !! That's too much. Also the atmosphere of the restaurant could use a little more decor.

DELICIOUS AND GLUTEN FREE! I haven't had fried mozzarella (which is just fancy mozzarella sticks) in over 5 years and thankfully due to this place I got some! I haven't ever had food make me cry before, their calamari and mozzarella were both to die for. The bartender Erica was extremely pleasant and efficient in engaging with customers, and makes the best cocktails. Definitely my new favorite restaurant to have a nice dinner at.

Other than the location, this place is great! For appetizers, my party and I ordered the minestrone soup, garlic bread, and charcuterie board and all were fantastic! For dinner, I ordered the pesto pasta and it was delicious, but very filling (so I got to enjoy it for another meal). The restaurant itself it’s decorated really nice and the service was quick and attentive. This is a great Italian restaurant with reasonable prices and great options for people with dietary allergies/restrictions.

I ordered takeout and got the seafood pasta and fried mozzarella. The fried mozzarella was overdone, dark brown. The linguini had a solid clump like it was cooked without being stirred. The sauce was amazing and the seafood seemed fresh and perfectly cooked. It was an odd meal like maybe the kitchen was a bit overworked and lost track of the easier stuff but nailed the seafood and sauce. I would go again but eat there to check food. It was $57.00 with tip and so should have been executed better.

Mama Mia is an authentic Italian place with the ambience and service to match. The food, the drinks and the music make for it all. Love the service orientation of the staff here. The place has a separate bar section and the rest of the place can be occupied by kids too. There is a separate nook that is given to you in case you are a large family group. Almost gives you a personal space of your own then! A definite recco of this place. Do not expect newbie fusion stuff here. What you get here is the real thing. Most of the cheese and dessert are all created inhouse. And that explains the taste of it all.

Amazing Italian restaurant. Food was authentic and delicious. I chose the chicken marsala with garlic olive oil spaghetti. The chicken was exceptionally tender and the sauce very flavorful. The pasta was freshly made and perfectly al dente. For dessert, there were many choices and I got an affogato (they have decaf espresso!) with a fresh biscotti. Just absolutely delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive.

Good Italian food. Good service. Good atmosphere. I got the carbonara and I recommend it. They do not have cappelletti aperitivo for a Capelletti Spritz, but I wasn’t expecting them to. I had an Aperol Spritz as my alternative and it was well made. Overall a great experience for my first time here.

Very expensive! I did not except the price ratings to be as high as they are especially for a place like this. Visually the restaurant was outdated and old but not in a nice way… the atmosphere was a little concerning and felt like I was a guest at someone’s aunts house rather than sitting at a restaurant. The food was very traditionally plain but still good. I did not feel like I left having the nice fancy restaurant experience but it was okay next time I’ll just know based off my personal experience.

Very friendly, prompt service and generous portions. The focaccia bread was warm and delicious, my Chicken Parmesan with a side of Spaghetti Pomodoro was exactly what I was craving and so big I took half back to the hotel for later. Was hoping it would be good based on reviews but was very disappointed in the food. The bottle of wine I selected was superb (vintage of wine didn't match the menu) for the price, and the service was great. I got the Bolognese, and my friend got the eggplant. Unfortunately the food tasted very processed and was overburdened with cheese. Pasta wasn't overcooked, but didn't feel fresh. The artwork and ambience was great for an Italian restaurant. I just wish the food matched the rest of it.

I may have been born at night. But I assure you I wasn’t born last night. In what reality are green tomatoes “vine ripe”? Tomatoes unless they are a yellow variety, should have a vibrant red color to them - bursting with robust flavor. NOT sour and bitter due to being unripe. Sadly Uber Eats won’t refund the money I paid for this so props to you for theft of services. Here is my negative review. Hers a picture of your terrible quality. Unless one is a glutton for punishment or enjoys being taken to the cleaner - don’t eat or order from this place.

  • Harry Dancler

The Chicken and Broccoli were additions to the Fettucini Alfredo, although the cream sauce blended well, it was a tad underwhelming. It comes with Garlic Bread. The Tiramisu deserves monumental praise, every morsel - like ambrosia to the taste buds - savored slowly with care.

Food was very good. Lasagna, fettuccine alfredo, and manicotti were ordered by my family. Good drink menu and beer selection. The place was nice inside. A bit loud but that could have just been the large party sitting close to us. Only complaint was the prices for some of the items. Entree pricing was reasonable but $7.50 for a small loaf of garlic bread and $7.50 for 4 small shrimp added to the fettuccine wasn’t a good value.

What a lovely classic Italian restaurant. You walk into a fountain before entering the restaurant. Classic decorations on the walls. Lovely environment and atmosphere. Friendly staff. Great food with complimentary bread. The waitress offered more bread when we finish our bread. We had pasta for dinner and it was great. At the end, the bill comes with a little feedback sheet which I like. I left some positive feedback to the waitress. I recommend this restaurant. I didn’t expect to be this good.

Loved my time here. We arrived right when they opened and didn't have to wait in line. The whole place was to ourselves and the service was very friendly. The environment was great as well. We started off with some good coffee and bread then topped it off with some manicotti and seafood pasta. Portion size was perfect. Tastiest Italian I've had in a long while. We were not disappointed. Waiter even gave us coffee to go as we hit the road to the coast. ;-)

Every employee did their best to support take out and the recent in dining opening opportunities during COVID . We felt blessed to be out of our hotel and understood the lack of some offerings on the menu and the delays. The food was still great, including the homemade pasta dish. Great place to eat, excellent service, beautiful atmosphere and delicious food. The food was generous, well prepared and, best of all, still hot when it got to you! The prices were more than reasonable.

We were a group of four and tried a walk in on Sunday evening for dinner and were able to get seated immediately. We got the garlic bread, carbonara, gnocchi and tiramisu. The food was good but I can't say it was great. The service was good. Ambience is also very nice.

The service was very good. Very height quality the food and well done! Easy to reserve by Google maps. The seafood pasta that I had, it could be for two people.

Had a great time. Mom ordered the lasagna and I ordered penne with spicy sauce and had the vegan sausage. Def appreciated the vegan options. The free bread was vegan too . Yummy food, would recommend!

This place is another place you should try if you are in downtown. Our server was just excellent and cleans each time new dish was served. Food was excellent, too. Highly recommend this place.

Despite the fears surrounding Covid 19, we decided to take in the views of downtown Portland. The food is amazing. The fried zucchini was excellent! We paired it with their famous lasagna. The portions are big so we split the main course.

Good food and service. The prices were higher than I remember but I would still go there again. A perennial favorite place for my birthday or a special date. I had Italian soda, house salad and lasagna. Leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

Phenomenal service, and amazing food. Everything was paced perfectly. Drinks & food were exceptional. The Super Tuscan red wine was out of this world.

Winter for my friend's birthday last night I would have to say best Italian food I've had in Oregon five stars all the way also great service

  • Kris Mani

Drinks and bruschetta board was great! Spaghetti Carbonara had no flavor and was like a cream sauce soup pasta. Smh. Very disappointing.
