Unfortunately, this place gets a ONE STAR I drove in from Wisconsin and was looking forward to some authentic Mexican food and this place was NOT it... The food is NOT authentic, but bland and overpriced.... Basically, whitewashed Mexican food. I came in to place a takeout order and waited OVER 45minutes for my food with no excuse for the wait. We stood around waiting and witnessed 3 tables get birthday serenades by waitstaff, watch people who came in after us to place orders and wait along with us and watch them leave with their food before us, along with parties looking to be seated…. It was nonstop movement. When we asked to speak to the manager at the 35minute mark, the hostess returned stating that she is too busy in the back and offered us a free dessert - I stated that this behavior was completely unacceptable and had we been at a table this would not have happened without a proper excuse (so I thought). A manager did come out and after voicing our concerns she had the STANKIEST ATTITUDE that even a waitress had to get in between as if she was going to fight us. She also tried to kick us out AND CALL THE POLICE on us even though we PRE-PAID!!!! We told her go ahead – we paid for our food and were not leaving unless we get it or you do a complete refund….. This manager then proceeded to state that they were very low staffed, but then if so…. 1. Why were we not told at the 20minute mark? 2. Why were they still letting people in (which by the way a family approached us who had been sitting there and let us know that they also left because of the wait and no excuse/apology to back it up) along with two patrons at the bar that clearly stated to the bartender "those ladies have been here for a longa** time...." Apparently the manager stated that the owner who still never came out to diffuse the situation wanted to gift us a $50 gift card to which we responded, just give us back a $50 refund because we will NEVER RETURN and when the manager came back FINALLY with our food holding a $20bill and that was the owners final apology..... The only positive thing I could say about this place was the décor…. But beware because once we entered the bathroom there was a used tampon container waiting for us in the stall…. Dear Owner/Management - Do not bother in responding – Your staff sucked, your food needs improvement and if you continue to treat patrons like this – you wont last that long

Staff were friendly, but there were very long gaps between being seated, asked about drinks and then asked about food. We were waiting at least 20 minutes for our drinks after ordering, and at least a half hour to 40 minutes after getting drinks before anyone checked in with us again to order food. The server also seemed surprised we were getting food, and who was seeing us changed hands a couple times. Once food was ordered things were fine, the food arrived and was delicious!! Some of the best mexican food I've ever had. However at the end of our meal when we asked for the bills, (5 of us, friends in town for an event, very clearly not a family of any sort) they informed us they don't separate bills. This was a shock to all of us, none of us are well off and can really afford to foot a bill that large all at once, and I was surprised and frustrated that it wasn't mentioned at the start, because we probably would have left to avoid overdrawing anyone's bank accounts. I ended up being the only person who Could pay the bill and my friends paid me back later, but I still got hit with overdraft charges. TLDR: Delicious food, slow service and they can't separate bills and didn't tell us at the start, which almost completely screwed us over. Would probably order takeout but not eat in if I ever returned.

Looks like a very nice resturant from the outside and the atmosphere and decor is good. I went with two friends and the three of us were seated and provided chips and salsa and waters. Probably the best salsa I've had. We then did not get waited on for at least 20 to 30 minutes. It was not too terribly busy and there was plenty of staff milling about. Eventually someone came over and asked if we had been helped which we said no. Also did not get silverware so we had to borrow some from an unoccupied table. Food was very mediocre for the price of it. If it was maybe half the price or three quarters it would've been reasonably priced. Portions were a decent size though. Menu did not detail what comes with the food, just what the primary item contained. Didnt know it came with refried beans and mexican rice which didnt make sense to me, why not just add that to the menu or at the top of the section (i.e. "all items in this section come with xxx") Probably wouldnt visit again.

Nice little place with off-street parking. Convenient to the airport for a quick bite after a long flight. Service and staff were quick and friendly. I had the chiles rellenos, which were as expected. Sometimes, at other places, they can be too greasy. But these were just right. Wife had the pork tacos, Mexican style, with green sauce. The piece of pork I tried was just right, had the perfect amount of spice and char. The wife thought there was maybe too much char and the meat was a little dry. Flavor was otherwise good. The Chile verde sauce, and regulat salsa, are not overwhelmingly spicy, but each does have a lingering heat. We each had a side salad with the Italian dressing. The dressing was good but, as you can see from the photos, they put way too much on it and there was a puddle left behind when we were through. As this was our first time eating there, I withheld a star. If we fly out of O'hare again and happen to eat there again and the food is good, I'll give the place one more star. I just try not to do it when I've only been there the once, and they drenched the salad in dressing.

I had high expectations about this place. Unfortunately I left very dissatisfied and disappointed. Getting a plate of Chiles Rellenos and a plate of grilled chicken breast to our table took over an hour. When asked the manager about the situation he said they just had too many orders to go. Waitress mentioned they were fully staffed and kitchen had at least 9 people working..."they are just slow". Food was ok... But definitely not worth an hour waiting for. Manager had the decorous to have our meal (as well as those of other guests) on the house. I think that is a genuine gesture, but I cannot recommend this place in good conscience. Dining is supposed to be about the experience and the food... And in Maria's case I paid nothing for the food... And I got nothing out of the experience other than a genuine desire not to ever set foot in that restaurant. Hopefully it wad just a bad day for the staff...

This is a restaurant with great atmosphere great staff, great food. We did have to wait awhile for our ordered items to arrive but when they did, they were delicious. Our waitress was very friendly and had great service however, it was pricier than we expected and the bill was pretty high for what you got. Overall, it’s a great place if you’re willing to spend a little extra money. Parking was extremely complicated and hard to find a spot. I would recommend parking farther away and walking. It was extremely difficult to find some thing right outside the restaurant.

I'll start with this, the food is good, but a bit pricey. I had the steak enchiladas, came with a salad. The steak was good, not chewy or grisly but just right. The salad to start off with was good and had good ranch dressing. The complimentary chips and salsa were very good. The only item I ordered that I wouldn't say I didn't care for, but seemed as though it should be included, was the Diabla hot sauce, and while pretty good, I've had hotter, and didn't have to pay $2.50 for a tiny amount of it. But to be fair I go to a lot of hole-in-the-wall little Mexican places where all this stuff is included. Would definitely be back, I have been there before. They do not split checks in case you're with several people.

One of the finest hidden gems in the area. I grew up around here and remember when Maria's was just one dining area with a roaming mariachi band! So glad they've not only endured but thrived! And the food is as delicious as it's always been for the last 30 years that I can remember! If you're a fan of authentic Mexican cuisine you will never walk away from Maria's disappointed, hungry, or broke!!!

Excellent char on the butterflied grilled shrimp in the shrimp diabla. This restaurant has a great menu with plenty of the standard Mexican dishes. The shrimps were grilled to perfection. The rice was flavorful and cooked just right. They bring you thick, warm chips and a delicious house salsa. The diabla hot sauce is served on the side which I've never seen at other mexican restaurants, but I'm assuming it's because it's so spicy. Some folks probably can't handle it. I was sweating like crazy, but it was so delicious. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

A must whenever we have a trip from it to O’hair! This place is one of the best Mexican foods I have tried in the Chicago area. The food is very authentic, the portion is generous, and the servers are very helpful and friendly. I have tried most of the items on the menu and never got bored. Sharing is highly recommended here to get a taste of many dishes. If you plan on getting appetizers, plan to share your meal with someone.

Updated review: 12/12/2022 Don't get the spinach enchiladas. Unless you like your spinach by the bushel and like it raw. I opted for spinach, but regretted not having my usual cheese enchiladas for a vegetarian choice. Previous review: I have loved coming to this place over the years, and recently had an opportunity to enjoy once again while shopping at the outlets next door. Great big menu with lots of traditional options and choice of sauces from Mole, Red, Verde, etc. The bar area is perfect for watching sports!

I came Tuesday and realized it had been a while since I'd been there. Very nice upgrades to the decor but the food is just as good as always. Apparently the bartenders won't do half/half frozen margaritas anymore(strawberry and peach were my personal faves) so I opted for the sangria instead and was not disappointed.

Pretty good food. The patron margarita was nice and strong. Food was ok had the enchiladas meh. Will I be back? Maybe! I want to try their seafood. And other drinks on the menu. (Update)so I came back! Here are a few photos. I will say the drinks are better than the food to me. So, if I go back it will be for drinks, chips and dip. Update: I've been back 3x since my last review. I must say the margaritas are TOP NOTCH...Gets me everytime lol but let's talk about the best Ceviche from any Mexican restaurant. Hands down Maria's has the BEST!!! Staff is very nice and yes there will be a wait but well worth it....Trust Me.

I was told to go to another Mexican restaurant by a friend but also heard this place was better. Great music was playing while we waited for our food and drinks. The drink we’re big and not too sweet, I had a raspberry margarita. The food is pricey but the portion sizes are good! I ordered the pastor tacos that came with rice and beans, my co worker orders the tostadas with carne asada. The star was friendly, I can’t remember the name of our server though.

Family dinner and were seated in the outside but covered and air conditioned dining area. Big complaint is it is very noisy due to OHare plane take-offs. Other than this the food is very good and authentic Mexican. All ages were present and having a great time. Had the combination plate and it was so big that I could not finish. Take it easy with the complimentary chips and salsa as they can are filling. For a full house, our dinners arrived quickly. Free parking however it is a tight fit when Full. Have fun!

The food is great, the ambience is good, the service is very slow. We had to wait for what seemed like an eternity for the main course to arrive and we had to call over the server to check whether they had forgotten about us. We got the reference from our Lyft driver so there is some good word of mouth advertising that is working for the restaurant and the food is really top notch it's just the the service time that is the issue. Maybe they are understaffed at the kitchen. Overall a nice place if you don't mind the slow service time.

  • J. Cordova

Nice place. The service is always great. They have good food but not crazy about the salsa it is just a miss for me. Good drinks, and if you're just looking for drinks and appetizers, they have a big bar area. They have an outdoor area for the summer but also have an open area that's enclosed for any seasonal weather.

After almost a one hour wait , we finally managed to get a seat at the bar to experience one of the best Mexican foods in town. Started off with a mango margarita and some fresh chips and salsa which were really good. We got the empanadas and the enchiladas verdes with chicken which was delicious and juicy and had great quantity and is accompanied with salad and soup . Obviously we couldn’t finish the entire thing so had to box them . Overall the-place is highly recommended provided you get in early and do not have to wait

My co-workers thought this was just the best Mexican food they ever had. I ate here about 4-5 years ago. Didn't impress me then. Didn't ever go back. This trip someone wanted to go so I went. Nothing has changed, in my opinion. Food is substandard. My problem is there are no Latinos eating there. They work there but I have never seen any eat there. Except for my Puerto Rica co-worker. If it's your kind of Mexican food, cool, but for me, it is not even good tex-mex.

I’m sorry I did not like the food or the Margarita’s at this place. Maybe it was the bartender but on Friday April 19th around 2pm whoever was making drinks did a bad job. The Margaritas were way to sugary. To the point I couldn’t drink mine and my friend didn’t drink hers. The food was also not good at all. The crabmeat quesadilla were missing the crabmeat and the veggie burrito with egg etc was not good either. I’m sorry I will not be going back. The staff was friendly and our waitress was very accommodating.

I had a fantastic experience at Maria's Mexican Restaurant! The margaritas were absolutely delicious and the perfect complement to their flavorful quesadillas de asada. The combination of savory grilled steak and melted cheese in the quesadillas was mouthwatering. I highly recommend this place for a delightful Mexican dining experience.

First, the food was okay. I get TexMex from the source, so my bar is pretty high. So, okay is good. Salsa was real good. You're not going to get food poisoning or have a bad meal here, I think. Absolutely excellent food! I haven't had chile rellenos this good in years. Mind you, I couldn't even finish them since our appetizers were huge! (Definitely have the ceviche!) Our waitress was wonderful, and while the wait for a table was long it was well worth it. Don't be a fool like me- make a reservation, you won't regret it!

The place was packed and I’m extremely impressed the timely manner a table of 9 received the orders! All orders came out together. Only was disappointed that the server took my friends food before asking. He was not done eating. Other than that this is a nice place to go chill , eat, get loud, drink.. I recommend this restaurant.

This was an awesome find!! Loved the ambiance, the at work, service, menu choices and the food itself. They were busy and we had a big group. They’ve made up for the fact this location is in an industrial/ORD Airport zone. Interior and exterior decor is high class Mexico! And the food, maybe tamed significantly for the more docile Mid-N. American palate, reasonably well flavored.

This is the steak chimichanga. It's smothered and not crunchy like it should be because it's deep fried. It needs to be crunchy. This must be a different part of Mexico's way. The black bean soup was amazing. Extremely slow service for me

Come here if u want overpriced Americanized "Mexican" food. My chicken flauta was very stale, it is not worth $20 even if it's a Big plate. The side soup tho was amazing. I dont think im coming back here. More

Easily the worst Mexican food I've eaten in my life. Steak was tough and flavorless. Guacamole probably came prepackaged from a local supermarket. No redeeming qualities in the food at all. More

I'm still here, the service is magnificent. And the food, it is so surprising to find a place with this level of authentic flavors! I am so happy I found this place on my first visit to Chicago.

Great ambiance! Great service! The food was delicious. It would be 5 stars if I didn't have to endure the second had smoke located mere steps from the patio seating area.

Great environment, the food has a very good taste…. A little pricey but the taste of the foods makes up for it… Definitely will be back for “La Tampiqueña”

Great service, huge portions, and great flavors. The atmosphere was really nice as well. The art that was chosen for this restaurant is spectacular.

Went here during ACEN with a group of 10 people and they had no trouble accommodating us. It was within walking distance of the con center.

Great service during peak time and friendly staff. Enchiladas were delicious and can't really go wrong with anything on the menu.

It is our family stop after a flight or some shopping at the outlet close by. The cheese nachos are really good. More
