Ok, off the bat I wouldn't recommend taking your date to this place on a Friday or Saturday - place is super busy and noisy. This is where Jamies used to be if you're wondering, exit Hunter Connection and take a right on Hubter St. We dined on a Friday ~12pax and were seated on the long wooden table. Just a heads up Fri & Sat nights is banquet only and depending on your budget these a couple of options. We were seated for the 69$/pp which served the following: - Tomatillo Chilaquiles, spiced corn totopos, queso fresco > I would suggest saving these to eat with the kingfish - Kingfish Ceviche, aji amarillo, radish, puffed rice > chunky cut with nice textures; could use with some more citrus IMO - Pork Empanada, green olive, raisin, chimichurri > this was not bad, with a little heat the pulled pork was succulent - Barbacoa Pulled Brisket Taco, mole roja, spanish onion > this was my favorites, it was simple and very light - Roasted Half Chicken, estofado mole > chicken was succulent, sauce is very similar to a curry paste - Patatas Bravas, chipotle salt, arbol mayo > simple deep fried potatoes with a sirracha + mayo like sauce, good crunch - Watermelon Salad, mexican sukkah, jalapeño > savoury basted and dress with sweet inside - Churros, dulche de leche Kudos for asking dietary requirements prior to serving, we had a vegetarian diner with us which they substituted with a halloumi, pumpkin and a beetroot dish. Staff are reasonably nice and informative, however the bathrooms could use work from Mario - unless you're the hulk, you will definitely struggle turning the taps.

The moment we stepped on the premises, we were welcomed with such amiability that i was already excited to get the rest of our dining experience going. We were sat down and served with complimentary sparkling water, then proceeded to look through their menu. We had a pretty decent assortment of foods to try out, and by the end of it, our bellies were stuffed and satisfied. We started off with corn ribs, accompanied by this incredibly flavourful sauce that made me, a non corn eater, eat corn. That’s how you’d know it’s that good. The soft shell crab taco arrived shortly after and it was a very unique taste that predominantly had its crab flavour but with a tinge of mango, avocado, and the mayo. It was a well prepared balance off all these flavours. Our mains arrived a while after, where we had the lamb, and steak to share between us, and our third side arrived with them, the patatas bravas. The patatas where pretty good, though it was not as crispy as I had expected them to be. It was still an excellent dish. The steak was cook fantastically as was the lamb, which both came with sauces of their own. I don’t have steak often so this was a nice experience where I could actually enjoy it, though as time went on, the lamb in particular tasted more and more bland. I had a fantastic dining experience here and would love to try more of their menu at some point!

Had dinner on a Saturday night the 2 of us, we loved everything food wise except my steak came cold and under seasoned at the table so I had to ask them to reheat it; the ceviche was embarrassing, a few chunky pieces of kingfish not evenly cut, big raw chunky onions and the fish wasn’t even cured! Totally under seasoned and the marinade wasn’t even tasty, all this for 28$! Now, I understand fish is expensive but you could at least invest in a better taste and presentation there. Service was appalling as we were seated in the corner so we were left to ourselves the whole time and we had to chase the waitress every single time. We asked to order starters and mains to come later, we hadn’t even finished the entrees and the mains were already on the table. I had to get up and grab a very unhygienic salt shaker myself. Probably understaffed on the floor on a Saturday night but customer should never pay the price for incompetent management or some tasteless food made without passion or love. When complained to the waitress about the ceviche, she couldn’t care less! What a joke. I’d rather spend my money elsewhere, shame as the rest of the food was great.

I came here on a Saturday for the first time and was seated at the bar. The guacamole with plantain and kingfish aguachile were probably the best dishes we ordered that night. The tacos, salmon ceviche and tuna tostada’s were okay. We were however disappointed by the service as we waited almost an hour between the first few dishes and the tacos and tostadas. We had first followed up with one of the waitresses but she never got back to us give us an update. She continued walking back and forth along the restaurant, passing us at the bar area. A few minutes later we followed up with a different worker and asked her to check on our order and she didn’t come back to us to give as an update either. After the follow ups, the tacos and tostadas did arrive and we had suspected our order was forgotten/missed (we saw on the receipt that it was listed at the ended seemingly after another miscellaneous line item so we knew this was the case) We would’ve appreciated the honesty as part of the service as both my partner and I have worked in hospitality before and can be understanding of the rush. We were disappointed that they didn’t tell us the order had been forgotten nor express their apologies for any kind of delay. Service could really be better.

We had a lovely night. Cocktails were top-notch! My fav was Mezcal Margarita. Their signature Margarita and tequila with pineapple agave and pepino (cucumber), which was cocktail of the month was good too. Food is good (7/10). King fish ceviche-yummy and appreciated their twist but I felt that the twist made it taste like salt cured fish dish rather than ceviche. I do really miss the traditional "Tiger's milk"- perhaps more lime in the dish would help!?! I love ceviche so I wish this dish tasted more like ceviche and not cured fish dish. Guacamole was bland (almost asked for lime and sea salt haha) - nothing exciting apart from the presentation. Beef - love both the crudo and wagyu rump steak. Grilled chicken tacos, patata bravas, and empanadas were yummy. I'd come back for drinks for sure but wouldn't go for the Deluxe set again. Might just go for a La carte and pick the dishes we like instead. Still sad that ceviche wasn't really ceviche otherwise I'd get it all the time!

My partner and I opted for the “deluxe feed me menu”. If you come here, it’s 100% worth it. The food was overall delicious, the stand outs dishes were the avocado (made at your table), the beef and ceviche. A perfect 5/5. Each of the other dishes were “good” but didn’t blow our minds. The tacos lacked flavour and the arancini were dry. I thought the potatoes were OK, but the presentation was extremely poor. As for dessert, the churros were awesome and the Carmel sauce was a 5/5. As for the cheesecake. I’m not even sure why Mejico serves such a tiny, and completely unnecessary dish. Service was friendly and the meals came out very quickly. As for other comments, the decor is strange and doesn’t really have a theme. Note: It also gets extremely noisy during dinner service. Overall it was a pleasant experience. We are happy we came but wouldn’t come back.

I was excited about trying this place but i’m disappointed, these are my reasons: 1. The food: flavors don’t feel authentic at all (I’ve been to Mexico and to many Mexican restaurants in Sydney, so I have the criteria to affirm it). Also, how is that the lamb doesn’t have any side? and you don’t even have the option to order a side because there are no sides on the menu. 2. The service: although the host that received us (who seemed to be the manager) and the runner were very very kind, the waitress was not very nice. She wasn’t rude either, but come on, it is hospitality. As customers my husband and I don’t pretend that the service have a huge smile permanently, but she simply seemed kind of upset. Also, in our way out, we said “bye” to the hostess that was on the shift already and she wasn’t nice either (again, not enough to be considered rude but just didn’t feel welcomed either)

Average food, very average service, reasonable atmosphere. Went here for a work function, about 20 Of us, and we all had the banquet. Food took an age to come. People were so hungry they ate whatever came, meaning some of the table didn’t get anything. Trying to explain to the waitress was hard, they seemed to want to blame the customers for not knowing which items they should or should not eat. Worse still, staff members sat next to us and eat dinner while customers next to them went hungry. People started leaving before mains arrived. I left before desert turned up, don’t know what that was like. Waiters kept bringing out drinks but had no idea who ordered them. The staff are all out of their depth and don’t know how to accomodate such a large number of customers at one time. I’d give it a miss as it cost a lot for what turns out to be a negative experience……

Honestly, when we left, we were already talking about when we would come back! The food was fantastic, and the service was great; it was such a vibrant! The Berry on fire cocktail was delicious! ❤️ The guac and plantain were what a combo It was a tad noisy and warm inside, but considering the beverages we kept ordering and humidity outside, there wasn't much we could do about it; the fan made a world of difference, though!! I highly recommend any of their set menus so you can get a taste of everything, and everything is worth it! Thank you for having our group of 28 people; we loved every minute of it! And a special thanks to Jade, it was great to put a face to the name!

Walked in on a Saturday 5:30pm, they were all fully booked so we sat at the bar but it was great, good and attentive service (probably because it was early in the service). The menu featured many Mexican popular street food, and they all delivered on flavors and textures. Highly recommend the guacamole and plantain chips, didn’t know the plantain could be this crispy and the guacamole is perfectly balanced. The fish taco was a highlight too, packed full of flavors and crunch, one of the best tacos I’ve had. The brussels sprout was so good with that finger licking good sweet onion mole. Overall impressed by the food quality and fairly priced given its prime location in CBD.

I am torn on this one because while it was a pretty enjoyable meal it really just wasn't particularly Mexican. It reminded me more of upmarket tapas restaurants in Spain. I mean, the best dish of the evening was the patatas bravas. The barramundi veracruzana was quite nice, the fish was well cooked, and the sauce was good though could have done with a bit of fire. The watermelon salad was a nice touch. I personally found the guacamole to be too tart but that may come down to preference rather than correctness. The jackfruit tacos were not great though, the flavour balance was just strange. The prices are typical Sydney prices ($20+ for entrees, $30+ for mains). The red and rose sangrias that I had were pretty bland, though my friends' cocktails were good. The service was friendly but tremendously slow.

Such a disappointment moment on this restaurant!. Customer service? Just the hoster know how to say hello. The Waiter, came 2 min after we've arrived to the table. And said: you ready? well, I ordered 2 Tommy's margaritas, please don't do the same. Really bad. Ceviche, plain, no flavour in sauce, ugly plating. Tacos, big ones, very generous. But, you miss salt and all the flavours in meat. Just, al pastor was properly flavoured. Cochinita pibil. Same, no salt no flavour neither. Nice plating. We didn't have chance to ask for others drinks or dessert, because no one ask us if we wanted something else. To be honest, it was a uncomfortable moment.

I just bloody love this place! I brought three new friends here and it is always fantastic. We had the delux feed me option which I would highly recommend. The service was out staying by all staff but our waiters Sarah and Ken knocked it out of the park. Flowing margaritas, to beers and tequila tasting at the end. We had an exceptional night and thanks to the maitre d’ for finding us a spot as we were late minute arranging dinner! 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Couldn't really fault the place overall food was good service was good, we got the set menu at $89 a head. Personal I don't think it was value for money at that price point. The stake and potato's course was really good, the stake was tender and seasoned well, the potato's were really yummy. If your looking for a good up class Mexican style dinner and can afford it Mejico isn't a bad option. Be aware though there is alot of spicey food on the menu not for those who cannot tolerate chilli!

It was great to visit the vibrant Mejico for the first time after it had been on my Want To Go list for some time. I ordered the Al Pastor Jackfruit tacos which were tasty. We also tried the guacamole which was made tableside and served with delicious plantain chips! I would go back again to sample some of the street snacks and extensive tequilas.

Amazing experience!!! Shout out to Luke the absolute legend for making this such a great experience. I have a bunch of food allergies/intolerances and was worried to be going out for a work lunch thinking I would need to get my own food later. Luke was extremely helpful in explaining the menu and ingredients to me without judgement or attitude and went to check with the chefs several times to make sure I was able to eat certain things, and really made an effort to see what could be done with my difficult dietary requirements. I really appreciated the effort and great service. The food was also absolutely delicious! Thanks Luke!

Loved the food .. everything that was ordered was quite tasty. The staff were great. The atmosphere wonderful, clean and had a good vibe. And the Avocado dish .. yep you just have to order .. made fresh at your table which is nice and oh so yummy. Downside is that the mains are quite pricey, example I ordered the Fish, which was bloody beautiful, but that was all that was on the plate so we had to order sides which ended up making the meal quite pricey for a lunch. So this would be a place that you would only go for special occasion lunch in my mind.

Oh. My. God. This was the most amazing dinner experience! So delicious, great service, amazing drinks. Every mouthful was incredible. The guacamole was wow, the pork tacos were wow. And oh my, the corn ribs....to die for! We don't get to Sydney often but would make a special trip just to go here again. We will be talking about this restaurant for a long time to come. On that note, the restaurant should open up in the Blue Mountains!

Amazing service from Rob (bartender) that made the night even more spectacular. The food is enjoyable and hits the spot for a Mexican craving. The wagyu rump is good but the potatoes stack is disappointing. The tacos are good but small in size. The cheesecake dessert was an intense cheese explosion that either makes you love it or being overloaded from it. Will come again

Wanted to go to Mejico for ages and finally went for lunch today with some girlfriends, we had one of the set menus and the food was delicious, the corn ribs are amazing and the guacamole is made in front of you, it was so good! Came here a couple of times with a large group of friends. Great place for a special occasion. They have set menus that you can choose from or pick from their a la carte! Our favourite part of this restaurant is that you can randomly choose your own tequila by using their “construct your own tequila” cube. Not only that, their food were delicious! Impeccable service! Came here for a birthday and had high expectations. Unfortunately expectations were not met. Atmosphere of the restaurant was nice and service was okay (nothing amazing) however food just did not meet expectations. We ordered the set menu that came with around 9 courses (inc dessert) for $75/pp + drinks, each cocktail costing around $20. All of the dishes were average and some of the meat dishes were a bit dry. Nothing special or worth remembering. I’m glad I tried it but I probably wouldn’t come back.

Been here so many times. It's very consistent. Nice menu with plenty of options. They have a feed me option which helps when you don't know what you want. Though weirdly some of their star dishes are not on it. Great drinks menu too. Really enjoy it here and it's always super busy. So you are better off with a booking. But I have managed to head in a few times without one. They've been happy to sit me as a single person too which is great.

We got the set menu and didn’t enjoy most of the dishes. The ingredients didn’t taste fresh - which is so important for Mexican style food. The chips were very stale, the dips premade, the meat under spiced and dry- again not fresh. Most of it unfortunately tasted like microwaved food. Overall, would not return and definitely not worth the money. Also the waitress forgot to serve us the cocktails we ordered, and so we never received them.

The customer service needs to be improved to be more friendly and welcoming, especially when guests are celebrating a special occasion. The interior is modern and bright with a good central location in the CBD. Most dishes on the set menu are of average quality and flavour. I had a great time at Mejico with a group of friends recently. The staff were really genuine and helped us out given we had a few people in our group with pretty complicated dietary requirements. After our meal we went up to the 2nd level which is more of a bar atmosphere and stayed on longer for Margaritas. Great that this place is in the heart of Melb CBD so easy to get to but also relaxed. Would highly recommend the king fish Ceviche and you cant miss out on the Table-smashed Guac!

It's been a while since I came back here. The restaurant continues to have a good vibe, lively music and food was cooked well. The spot where we sat though, was difficult to get staff to attend to us. However, food did come promptly. The smoked trout and king fish ceviche was cooked well and generous portions of the guacamole. Would have preferred the table side preparation like they used to though, but I understand why they no longer have it. Overall not bad for a casual catch up =)

The place gets so crazy on a Saturday night! Was a good experience, the staff were so friendly and attentive considering how busy it was. It does get nosy from other diners so can be a little difficult to have a date. Definitely recommend for a good night out, they have an extensive range of tequila! Sadly dessert was a little let down the sticky date pudding was dry. Also everyone raves on about the guacamole being amazing it was average nothing too special.

Great Mexican Cuisine Experience! From avocado pieces, lemon, chilli, red onion etc. it gets all mushed together in front of you, creating the perfect dip for plantain chips!⁣ ⁣ If you love corn like I do, definitely try their corn ribs! The sauce and cheese it comes with compliments the dish so well . ⁣ ⁣ In their spicy fried chicken, the watermelon acts as a good cooling agent for . Overall, great Mexican flavours and creativity in the mix .

We were here for a Melbourne Cup lunch with work colleagues. The atmosphere was very lively, the staff was super friendly and efficient and the food was excellent. Highly recommended for lunch, dinner, or a quick snack while out shopping.

We were celebrating our birthday, expected a lot as the reviews were nice. We ordered $400 worth of food, including lots of drinks. We did not feel the food was fresh and definitely not worth the money. The worst part was the staff actively asked us to tip for the person. Not a pleasant memory, not going back.

We come to Mejico every time we're in Sydney. It is simply stunning Mexican food paired with outstanding tequila. On the food: everything is great. Ask your waiter for their recommendations if you can't choose. On the tequila: if you're not sure how to order, use their cute wooden slider to select your preferred taste, intensity, and price point, and they'll bring you the one that suits you. It's a great system and a lot of fun.

  • Matthew Lee

ordered 8 different dishes for four people to share. the waitress was friendly and helpful but they were generally speaking too busy. the atmosphere was somewhat mediocre. however, the meat was super dry and we couldnt find any dish 'okay'. ended up paying almost $400 including tip(they will actively ask for tip when you pay). I don't quite get how their rating is this high.

Love the guacamole and plantain chips here. They used to do more soft tacos which were delicious but weren't available on the last visit. It also took a long time to get the food or to wave down a waitstaff as they weren't really looking.

Seating was a little uncomfortable and hard to hear your group talk unless speaking loudly. The restaurant only allowed up to 8 for reservation, we had 16 and they split our group up so that was a little buzz kill. Food was great though, they brought out the food in courses so that was a fun experience.

Good Latin vibe. Food was alright. Portion was reasonable. Service could be better. Popular spot for work team lunches apparently. Probably coz everyone thought tacos were easy bites for sharing. They were willing to make adjustments to dietary requirements, which’s a positive.

Gorgeous Mexican restaurant I’ve wanted to try for ages! The classic feed me menu (69pp.) is so affordable and filling! Highlights were the: pork empanada, pulled brisket and the roast chicken - but every dish was very delicious. Food also came out regularly timed perfectly so was a great dining experience. 100% recommendation!

Great food, great service, great ambience! Despite Australia not being a hotspot for Mexican food, Mejico is worth a visit. Empanadas were great, tacos were delightful, but the chocolate mousse stuffed ancho was phenomenal! Also there are sombreros you can wear.

Had a wonderful night with the team. We had the set meal and overall the food was great. The only complain we have is that it was slow in the beginning, it took a full hour before we were served any food. Otherwise everything else was great. The cocktails were awesome!

We have been couple of times to this restaurant and has been a great experience. The small dishes are great and are good portions good for sharing especially halloumi and beef tacos. The cocktails are also great along with mains. The portions of mains are not very huge but good for one person. Overall it has great food & ambience. Highly recommend this place.

Noisy, welcoming modern space offering a small but wonderful selection of Mexican food done really well. The table smashed guacamole is great and very popular. The sangria selection is too easy to drink and goes so well with the food. The staff are attentive, friendly and happy to interact with customers, especially whilst smashing those avocados.

A now classic Mexican place that serves up delicious food and makes the guacamole in front of you as part of the show! Food comes out crazy quick, the drinks are great and particularly cool is the little widget for helping you choose your tequila. Staff are awesome, very attentive and super friendly which makes it an overall great experience.

  • Saz Fairy

The perfect date night. The food was really fresh, flavourful and exciting. They make the guacamole at the table in front of you. The drinks list in really detailed. The price is a bit steep but if you’re looking for a once in a while place that is really special, this is your place. Food was so good that I sadly forgot to take photos.

Had an excellent experience here. Staff was super attentive the entire time. The tequila flights are great if you want to try a lot of them. We did a tasting menu and got to try several dishes throughout the night. The quantity of food was probably Too much! The quality was great with each dish being well prepared. Would come back!

Great food and ambience! We only took some small dishes and tacos, but will definitely come back to try some of their other dishes. My favourite was the salmon tacos, closely followed by the Jalapeño poppers. The former was juicy and very tasty, and the latter tasted amazing with a nice crunch on the outside!

Great spot with some lovely Mexican flavours. There are some decent vegetarian options. The tacos are great and the charcoal pumpkin is really tasty. Have been here numerous times and the fare is still tasty. It’s loud in the restaurant but that’s the only note, but that’s because it’s packed.

Biggest let down of the year so far. Place was cramped but felt more to accommodate for Valentine's Day. Not sure if they hired more to keep up with demand but quality suffered tonight. took more than 25 min for easy cocktails. Wouldn't go back if it was free . Do not recommend. Waste of $250
