The Melbourne Hebrew Congregation is a warm and vibrant community with a grand tradition and a bright future. The building is an example of awe inspiring architecture from the early 1930s, beautifully exemplified by the Victorian Heritage Database who classify it as Victoria's most prominent synagogue, built in a style of twentieth century Baroque classicism with a Corinthian portico and striking copper dome suggestive of the compostition of Palladio's Villa Capra. This synagogue is a religious and architectural icon of Melbourne and of Australia as a whole.

This Fine Congregation is the only Congregation in Central Melbourne for Hebrew Citizens. This Hebrew Congregation is the oldest Jewish Congregation in all of Melbourne. This Congregation has been around since 1841. I attended an event entitled Gershwin and Me featuring Simon Tedeschi piano and Mat Jodrel trumpet. It was a great privilege to be there in this beautiful synagogue.
