The day I was admitted onto the Cardio-Thoracic ward it had run out of vacutainers for collecting the blood. The nurse took blood with a syringe but lost quite a lot of it from the 3 sites she tried. The blood had soaked the sheet and the sheet was not changed until I left 3 days later Pre-theatre I was given mens TED stockings as they had run out of ladies sizes. I was moved to a share ward from my private room as a very sick patient needed it - I didn't mind that at all however there was no privacy curtain at the end of the bed. The nurse and also the Consultant both commented on this lack as being unsatisfactory. I was not taken to the shower at all and the only time I relied on a nurse to help me to the bathroom I was left for 35 minutes as she had forgotten me and I made my way back on my own. I received 4 different instructions within one hour. I was told to lay down for 4 hours post-op but then a nurse said I should get up after 2 hours. I explained what I had been told in theatre but she over-ruled that and sat me up and I started to bleed. 4 staff attended and stemmed the bleeding and said I was to lie down again for a further 2 hours. I was told the Doctor would be coming to see me following this. I waited and later asked if he was coming and was told no, he doesn't do evening rounds. My food tray was consistently left out of reach and was taken back untouched. I asked for some ice cream post-operation as I had a sore throat. It was a 6 hour op and under general anaesthetic so my thoat was very uncomfortable. None of the nurses bothered to get me some and my water ran out at 8pm and was not refilled until the following morning despite many promised to do so. I never had the bed made, or even straightened during the 3 day stay. My tablets were consistently given late in the evening - due at 6pm and given at 8.30 - 9pm. When was moved from the single room the lady in the shared room had 11 visitors from the time I arrived post-operation until 8.30pm including a small child who was there from 3.00 till 630. They were extremely loud, being a Mediterranean family, which normally wouldn't worry me but straight from theatre I was feeling very unwell. I mentioned this to the staff and so did my husband but nothing was done. He eventually asked them to be a little quieter which they did not a while until the next wave arrived and then it was back to full volume. I appreciate the policy of relaxed rules but some consideration should be given to the other patients and perhaps if the patient is going to have that number of visitors they should be asked to go to another waiting room or such. Several of the nurses admitted that they were loud but none did anything about it. This other patient I was sharing with had just come in for tests the following day and so was fit. All in All a dreadful experience apart from the Theatre staff in the Cath. Lab. They were extremely professional, friendly and quitely efficient. I cannot commend they highly enough. Such a pity the ward experience let the hospital down.

As a patient who had major bowel surgery and placed on the neuroscience ward for recovery was the beginning of my concerns. From being in a room with a massive hole in the wall, to my bed not being changed for 4 days, the bathroom was never cleaned, I was not showered for 4 days even though requesting to be so on each shift and to my large surgery wounds not being changed or checked for 5 consecutive days and don't get me started on the food. How can someone who has had bowel removed and on bowel rest expected to digest lamb stew, or steak or tomato pasta. Even when avoiding those options you get charred potatoes or 3 day old bread rolls and assorted sandwiches. Although the nursing staff were friendly they were clueless. From putting up IV pain relief but not connecting it to my cannula therefore have it dripping onto floor to then putting up IV antibiotics and then not pressing 'go' only to come back and realise 3 hours later. Further, the ward physio expects you to do laps in order for your recovery to proceed but how can this be done when you're stepping over rubbish, thrown towels and linen on the hallway floors. Handover between each shift was a joke no one knew my reason for being in the hospital from one shift to the next but what tops it off is that a certain nurse who did the night shift wearing ear plugs because she doesn't like the IV machines alert sounds. Therefore incessantly walks around all night talking at the top of her voice because she can't hear anything but God forbid she hear a machine alert her to someone's medication needs. Lastly, on the wall in this particular ward they display like they're proud that LESS than 50% of staff are trained in basic CPR skills. I could go on but basically I feel like I'm lucky to be alive after this experience and will do my utmost best to never return to the Melbourne Private.

Well I'm here to tell don't go to this hospital. The absolute lack of functional care from nurses was ridiculous, the lack of cleaning and don't get me started on the food. An absolute disgrace. We are still in shock. Our daughter was there for a major op which she came thru thanks to the surgeon however her dressing was not changed once from Tuesday to Saturday when she came home. We were there on the Friday and she had not had a shower since Tuesday. Nurses say I will get back to you or the next shift will do it. My husband emptied the room bin which was full of biological waste. Our daughter said it hadn't been emptied for 4 days nor the floors cleaned. I could go on. We are unfortunately experienced in all the major hospitals in Melbourne. Our daughter has undergone 13 major operations and this hospital is by far ranked the worse in hygiene, nurse care and food for patients. Bein we are embarrassed. Pick your game up. And dont give me covid excuse this is surgical wards that need top nurses not lazy international nurses who have no idea. Our daughters nurse attached intravenous antis but forgot to turn it on also same nurse attached pain meds but forgot to link to intravenous lead walked off whilst the meds poured out all over the floor. Basic stuff. We have 2 daughters that are experienced nurses and are horrified with our story but not surprised they had heard it was bad and were very unsure of their sisters admission to this hospital. It will not be on our list ever .

What a great hospital , I read some of the previous reviews with some trepidation but I need not of worried. I arrived for an operation on the 20th Dec 2021. RECPTION; I was concerned that my as my Covid results had not materialised (no surprise there) there may have been a problem with admission. The reception phoned the ward and I was sent to ward reception to be greeted by a fully gowned nurse and escorted to a single room tested for Covid and quarantined until the negative result came back. Seamlessly and professional resolving what could have been a serious problem for me. ACCOMODATION; This is an old hospital but the rooms where good and spacious and in good order, the medical equipment was modern. in my time I was in a single room, a double room and in the High Dependency Unit with multiple beds. FOOD; Good variety on the menus, served promptly and hot and delicious Just write up your menu and they will find you regardless of where you have been moved to. Only the very difficult to please would find fault. NURSING STAFF: The jewel in the crown, attentive, professional, courteous, always prepared to go the extra mile to assist in making your stay pleasant, in a word superb. MEDICAL STAFF; Like me you will have selected your Surgeon ,Specialist etc. I hope you get as good as I received. All in all If you need a medical procedure in Melbourne I would recommend the Melbourne Private Hospital without reservation.

Poor experience I was in for a day procedure and the nurse that escorted me from reception to ward bed 6th Floor then finished her shift. I was in room for about 2 hours and no one came near me or asked who I was. Eventually the Anaethist rocked up interviewed me said Op room ready in half an hour. About 20 minutes later an orderly came in to take me to theatre. Then the nurse rocks up found a gown for me to put on and hurredly did my obs and asked the orderly to put my compression socks on which he struggled to do. Then wheeled to op room where anaethist reminded the nurse to get the next patient prepped! I was delayed from leaving recovery as nurse was on her break. Taken back to room on ward and I discovered the oxygen mask had taken several pieces of skin off my face not treated so I cleaned off the blood. They wanted to keep me for 4 hours but no way I wanted out so discharged my self. Their pharmacy had closed so we stopped at a chemist who refused to fill my script as the anaethist used someone else's pad and the prescriber number wasn't hers. All in all a poor caring or professional standard displayed. Perhaps it's an age thing like the previous reviewer's elderly parents I too am a little gray haired man who no-one is concerned with!

My family's experience at Melbourne Private Day Procedure Unit for a bronchoscopy was marked by good care from the medical/nursing staffs. However, significant concerns arise regarding the hospital's infection control and facility standards. The environment lacked cleanliness, proper ventilation, and coughing patients without preop COVID screening. Pre-admission procedures were missing and disorganized, the operating theatre was openly visible, and the overall state was messy and shocking. Comparatively, experiences at other hospitals showcased superior infection control measures. Post-surgery, my mother developed a fever and extreme fatigue, although can be expected as per complications, however, was unexpected based on previous surgeries. I emphasise the urgent need for the hospital to review and enhance its facility standards and protocols for the safety and well-being of all patients. Immediate attention and corrective actions are necessary to uphold the hospital's reputation for quality healthcare.

Avoid driving here by car at all costs! This overpriced hospital can't even provide parking for their patients. I turn up and a rude thug at the carpark gate is yelling at anyone (except special privillaged card holders) that the carpark is full and go elsewhere (with all the building and road works going on, you won't find parking on the street within a 1km radius). If you have to go here take a tram or uber. There are much better private hospitals further out (Knox is excellent) where parking and visiting is much easier. Better yet, stay healthy - you really dont want to get sick in a country with a screwed up medical system like Australia where, even if you pay through your nose on Health Cover, the out-of-pockets costs are still huge!

Great surgeon. Had a bad reaction to anaesthetic and needed to sleep ,but couldn't as was in a shared room. I asked for a private room but was told not available. The sound of the heart monitors was broadcast over the speakers so this kept me up most of the night. The nursing staff were friendly but not all that helpful. On discharge I asked the nurse if she could remove all the patches that were on my back and chest; she replied that I could remove these myself when I get home and have a shower. Also I had special dietary requirements but this was not addressed on admission. Better admission process with questions involving : room type and diet should be included . Very happy to be out.

Don’t go to this hospital if you are UNWELL , over a $1,000 a day , to experience neglect. Sustegen was refused even after approval of the dietitian. No assistance to shower a dying person. Total neglect. So sad to feel unsafe in a hospital in this day and age. Neglect of communication, and to top it off nurse Thelma refused to give a discharge plan. And the OT decided nothing was required to adjust our home to care for a dying person, with out any discussion with me. It would be great if hospitals included patients carers in decision making but no such respect for the next of king. Communication appalling. Especially keep away from level 8

I stayed here for 4 days during September 2018. I was in the Neurosciences ward (Level 8) The staff from all walks of life (Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, India, Ireland, Bali, a kiwi and a couple of Aussies, were very helpful and kind. The food was healthy and tasty, and the menu sufficient. The Doctors were very busy but always found time to check on their patients. I would have given the Hospital 5 stars, however, there was no coffee with either lunch or dinner, or even after dinner (cost cutting I guess) so I marked it down one star. The nurses would make you a coffee, usually if you asked. Otherwise, an enjoyable stay.

All shared rooms with around 6 people in each. Very loud, including some staff. Lack of attention to patients and left isolated for extended periods of time. Poor directions entering the building and you will be sure to get a run around. Not what you would expect from a private hospital. The hospital possesses world class facilities and services, however for comfort and peace this is not a good private hospital. As with any workplace there are some exceptional staff and some bad eggs

  • Hakan A

Admitted last week & stayed 5 nights for lumbar back surgery & it was a pleasant stay as the staff were friendly & helpful. Rooms were clean & tidy, nurses were caring & helpful, all seemed like happy staff who enjoy the work they do. Special thanks to Lisa & Jackie the two nurses who mostly had the difficult job taking care of me & would like to thank my great surgeon Dr Caroline Tan for the care & professionalism of her work & care she provides her patient's before & after surgery.

My partner has been twice to have heart surgery & I will say this.. the staff are super awesome especially the ones we have had to help us. Dr Joseph Morton & his team are unbelievably awesome. Dr Morton is very dedicated to his work & we cannot thank him enough. Level 5 @ the Melbourne Private, we thank you for your care. Dr Joseph Morton, your effortless dedication is the work of God. May God go before you to continue doing His work. In Jesus Name, we pray - The Flynn family.

I arrived RMH/Melbourne Private about 3 am on a friday morning in ambulance after having had a Heart attack. I know I did not have much time left. . My life was saved by the collective diligence and skills of all. Including Ambos, Nursing Staff, technicians and of course the Surgeons I deeply admire all of these staff. The building and services need a bit of a tweak here and there but so what! Hey I am alive and getting better! I was so lucky to have these guys look after me.

Down here for a procedure for a couple of days. Care fabulous and just wanted to give a shout out to Kylie and Anna in the cardio unit ,level 5. Bed side manner of these 2 women is amazing. Such great people and individuals and makes you feel relaxed and completely at ease. You both certainty met your callings , even if you have to to do the odd 12 hour night shift hey Kylie. Thanks so much for everything and better days ahead for the Bulldogs Kylie. .John. Ballarat.

  • Nicky Van der Bergh

Horrid. High private hospital prices but below par services. Each nurse had their own rules. Food is bland school canteen style, noisy as hell and when you close the room door you get told off that it’s a cardio ward, yet they close the doors at night. Your own medication you bring with you gets halved or changed without consulting your GP or specialists. Place is desperately tired. I highly recommend insisting on another hospital. Period!

  • Paula Johnston

Nurses and support staff fantastic, doctor don't listen when when you have a current treatment plan for pain, offer you panadol after 3 major operations( over 3 days) left for over 24hrs in agony getting fobbed from one doctor to another, would never go back there couldn't care if I was dying, giant overhaul of doctors and their bedside manners as well as listening to treatment plans that patients are on need to be addressed

  • Wojciech

Seeing the room decided to get out prior to undergoing a procedure and staying overnight. The room was not clean properly, water damaged/ rotten ensuite wall, shared with (constantly) coughing person. Was requested to wait in the room for someone to follow up the admission, no one turned up in 30min.

I’ve been in this hospital from July 2020 almost 7 months. The medical attention from nurses through to the top doctors and surgeons was amazing, professional and caring. The food is not so much. It needs more variety and appetising. The hospital should give more attention to the kitchen.

  • Rory Selvaratnam

Possibly the worst possible customer service I’ve ever experienced. Called up for a general enquiry and was rudely hung up on by the receptionist on the other end on the 20th of June at 3:42pm. The receptionist showed no care at all and needs to be held accountable for her actions.

  • Paul Roche

I felt totally comfortable with the staff and environment I was in.All the staff were very busy but still found the time to look after me extremely well.A shout out to the Leo the Irish nurse who was absolutely brilliant on the last day.Enjoy your Saturday Leo. CHEERS Paul Roche.

  • Maureen Sindoni

Relative inpatient in Cardiac Unit, CoronaryCare, Theatre and ICU. First time in this Hospital. All staff were helpful and professional. Felt comfortable asking questions about care and even when needing directions. Admission and discharge procedures easy to undertake.

  • Janet Kenny

Husband had heart surgery care great but for a private hospital the rooms are old and no single rooms available ever! and the food is worse than what's served at my mother's nursing home . For the money you pay very poor they need to offer a lot better!!

  • Samira F

Today, I had an AMAZING experience in imaging section. Tania and Shami were awesome in my process. They are so nice and lovely and they made sure I feel comfortable with my surgery. Also, the place and the room were clean and had great hygiene.

  • Sue Williams

Spent 6 days here in September and have absolutely no complaints. Sure it's a bit dated but everything works as it should. Staff were wonderful and the food was great. Hopefully I won't have to return but won't hesitate if I have to.

  • Mary Sant

Great nursing staff and my surgeon fantastic but the cold food is a let down. I am presently a patient and every single meal is less than luke warm which is unappetising especially when you are recuperating from surgery.

  • Cyril Blakeman

The care and service are outstanding. I came in an ambulance with only a Medicare card, 82 yes, unemployed and stayed in a private room while tests and care were given, gratis.Highly recommended.

  • Anne Jeffrey

I took a right decision going to this hospital, I really appreciate and grateful to all the staff. They were very professional and took good care of me. ☺️☺️☺️☺️

  • glousie coogab

Very dangerous to be a patient there due to ratios with nurses to patients. Consider going to a different private hospital to have major surgery or go public.

  • Amanda Lennard

I’ve been here twice over the past two years. Both times I’ve been here. The nurses have been amazing. Friendly and gentle. Even the food is good here!

  • Brilliant But Blue

Worst private hospital in Melborne. If your surgeon operates there get another surgeon. Terrible nursing care. Food is aweful. Worst experience ever.

  • CMC001 1971

Bit ordinary for the money. Ultimately it’s about quality of care and I can’t fault that but you would expect the aesthetics to be a little nicer.

  • Lauren Lovick

Great staff, pleasant environment. Looking slightly dated though. Don't have coffee at Hudson's on the ground floor. Go over the road to Dr Dax.
