I hate that I have to do this, but I feel a responsibility to other potential parents to leave this review. Our daughter was unexpectedly born with multiple joint contractures. Dr. Missiuna was the orthopedic surgeon we were assigned. In addition to the contractures, my wife and I had concerns about her back, which seemed curved. We brought up these concerns to Dr. Missiuna at two different appointments, months apart. The concerns were brushed aside by him. At 7 months old, we went to another hospital for a second opinion. They immediately took x-rays and determined she has kyphoscoliosis and advised us to have it treated ASAP, since early onset scoliosis can rapidly worsen and/or impact the development of the lungs. Upon further review of the medical record, we found that our geneticist also observed the kyphoscoliosis when she saw our daughter at only 2 days old. Please get a second opinion if you feel you are not being listened to, as we also found his style to be brisk and unfriendly. We filed a complaint with McMaster, which was addressed in a professional manner. We have had only good experiences with all other departments and medical professionals at McMaster.

Dr Missuna was my orthopedic surgeon growing up, I am now in my 30s. I have a rare genetic condition called Osteogenesis imperfecta, which means my bones are like glass. He was able to put me back together when other doctors were afraid to touch me or operate. The one time I did get a different doctor, she put wires in my wrist which I bent all to hell... in a cast. I've broken probably 15 bones, and have full use of my limbs thanks to this doctor. His bed side manner, although brisk, was always warm and he tries to be funny to relieve the negative effects in the room (ex. Broken arm, "oh its you again, what did you do this time that mom said not to?") I've only ever had good experiences with Dr Missuna, and since aging out of his clinic, I have yet to find a Dr who will operate on me and now have scoliosis in my spine which no one will help with.

I had a horrible first (and last) experience at this office. Office location is sketchy. Inside the building itself looked run down and not somewhere I felt comfortable taking my child. Dr Missiuna slammed the door upon entering the office. He did not seem to understand the software he was using and kept saying the "computer is being temperamental". Threw out terms that scared my daughter just by touching the bottom of her foot. Could not locate the xrays we were told to get and said they wouldn't be helpful anyways. He ended the appointment by saying "my secretary will be back tomorrow and we will figure something out". I drove 1 hour from another city and left completely confused and concerned. This Prompted me to read reviews and there is an article from Global News i urge every parent to read.

I have had my friend by side since I was at least 7-8 years old. I am now 38 years of age. I have Osteogenisis Imperfecta, which is a brittle bone condition. As a child I used to break my bones on a monthly basis. Dr Missiuna took me on when other doctors where afraid to work on me. He introduced Rodding in my bones, which saved me from more breakages. He Also gave me the Dream of Walking which MOST Doctors told my MOTHER to-just-put-me-in-a-wheelchair because i won't be able to walk again. Missiuna proved those doctors wrong. again, I am 38 years old. When I was a Child, I used to break my bones in my sleep, that's how fragile I was. This doctor, used to meet me at emergency around 2, 3, 4 in the morning when he didn't have to. EVERY TIME. If I break Now a days ; My friend is still by side.

Dr. Missiuna diagnosed my daughter with hip dysplasia and put her in a brace at age one. Wanted to do x-rays every 3 months and surgery by age 2. We thankfully got a second opinion at sick kids (not before sticking her in that awful brace) and we were told that he is one of the only, if not only Dr. In Canada to use these outdated braces. These braces should never be used on children of walking age, especially for such a mild case. A year and a half later her hips were perfect without a brace or surgery. I cant speak to how he is in surgery, but please get a second opinion for hip dysplasia, especially in toddlers.

My experience with him was nothing short of exhausting, my daughter received many surgeries by him to treat a complex case of scoliosis. He has a terrible bedside manner and rushes trough each appointment. I will never forget him ripping off my daughters first surgery bandages being sneaky about it and immediately losing my daughters trust just because she was apprehensive about having them taken off. Her last surgery was much more of a success with another doctor from Sick Kids after Missiuna told us he cannot do anymore. Seek a second opinion please.

He performed life saving surgery on my 16 year old son. It actually took 2 surgery's. He had one of the worst cases of scoliosis and he had to wait almost 2 years for the surgery due to OHIP still, I am truly grateful for this amazing doctor. He has a great sense of humour. My son liked his bedside manner. Before and after. 2 years on he's doing great! Without the surgery his ribs could have punctured his heart or lungs.

I have known Dr. Paul Missiuna for over 30 years. Absolutely amazing Dr. I knew him at Sick Children's hospital for my daughter's many surgeries and at St.Joseph's / McMaster Hospital. Truly compassionate /honest and has a great bedside manner . I have recommended him to many friends and family and will continue to do so. Treated us like family. Thank-you to Dr. Missiuna and his wonderful Staff!

I would give zero stars if I could for misdiagnosis and potential malpractice regarding my son. I found him arrogant, the appointment was rushed and I am forever grateful my gut told me not to trust in him and seek out 2nd and 3rd opinions. His quick diagnosis was incorrect and had I put my trust in him, he would have performed unnecessary surgery on my then 18 month old son.

I went to this guy for years for my scoliosis, he always made me uneasy with his "tickle tune up Tuesday" thing. He always tried to tickle me, but my mum and I told him not to. Eventually he stopped. He had cool colouring sheets though and the backyardigans was fun to watch in the waiting room. I only ever had xrays, and my scoliosis was always just monitored.

We went to the hospital with my daughter for her foot they said it was tendinitis but it wasn't. Went to see Dr. Munssina and after xrays he found out it was Seavers diseases. The best doctor ever. All give my daughter the respect and the care that she needed.

Dr. Missiuna treated my son for hip displaysia from 2003 as a new born to 2007 and he was wonderful. His bedside manner was excellent and he treated us both in a kind, compassionate manner. It will be a great loss to the city when he retires.
