My family booked and paid for 2 car places on the barge 4 months ahead of travel date. We printed our tickets and gave them to each driver to present to the loading staff. All went well on the out bound trip and we had a wonderful 5 days on the island. However the nightmare began on the return. We arrived 45mins early as asked for only to see the Barge pulling away from the beach. We tried to signal and call on the uhf but no response. We jumped on the web for a phone number. The only phone number we could find was not manned because it was a weekend. With no way of knowing if this was the last barge of the day we were quite worried. With all camping gear packed for return and pretty much no food or water, a 9 month old infant and a member of our party experiencing a minor health issue, we were in need of returning the same day as paid for. By speaking with other 4x4's we established that there was a late service at 6.30pm. So we parked up and waited 3 and a half hours for the barge to return. As dusk began to set in the barge returned much to our relief as our infant had become quite unsettled due to inability for us to create his daily routine. We were signalled by the deck hand to drive onto the barge. We gave our ticket to him and informed him that the barge had left us on the beach from the previous time and that we were glad they had returned. However he promptly said that they were full and could not take us and that I had to reverse off the loading ramp and allow others to board. He informed me that the departure time we booked had changed "we SHOULD have received an email" This resulted in a dispute to our eligibility to be returned to Brisbane and in all a very stressful situation that completely ruined what was supposed to be a relaxing holiday with family. My wife was crying, my infant son was screaming. My 17 year old son was aggressively told to move his car back to allow others to board also. Just as a recap I had paid for both cars and passengers at a cost of nearly $1000 dollars for this experience. Clearly Moreton island adventures only care about making money not passenger welfare. The fact that no telephone is answered during the weekend tells me they only use the phone to take bookings not help customers. The barge times can be changed with only an email sent as notice. So make sure you check your emails regularly including while you are on holiday just in case Moreton island adventures want to sell more tickets and move your booking to suit them. The fact they are the only barge enables them to behave this way. We have used Moreton island adventures for a very long time but this experience has changed everything for us, be warned this could happen to you!

Can't recommend this service highly enough!! Quick background: I had booked a holiday for myself and my two children (first holiday in over 3 years!!) to camp on Moreton Island, having never been there before. I booked the ferry, booked the camp site, then, out of the blue, the mob that "runs" Moreton Island, informed me they still have the completely discriminatory and draconian jab policy in place... Suffice to say, I'm wasn't impressed. Immediately cancelled my booking with them (I will not support any business that allows that), and then immediately contacted MIA to see if I could cancel the ferry booking. I had read their terms and conditions regarding cancellations, and was in a bit of a pickle. Their refund policy gives credit only, and must be done online. However, I was already on the phone to them by the time I saw all that, so I figured I'd press on anyway. I spoke to a lovely lady named Liz, who, upon hearing my story, immediately cancelled my bookings, issued a credit, and explained that if I replied to her cancellation email, explaining my circumstances, she would pass it on to Management to see about a monetary refund as requested, as the credit will be useless to me, and I had spent all of my holiday money on this trip, so we were looking down the barrel of having no holiday at all. I sent the email, explaining my request and circumstances, and received an email back within a day or so from another extremely helpful lady by the name of Kim, who, having read my circumstances, happily agreed to refund the money into my account. We are now happily booking another campsite elsewhere and will still have a great holiday. All thanks to the team at Moreton Island Adventures. We thank you all for helping to fix a very disappointing situation, and as I said, CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS TEAM HIGHLY ENOUGH!!! Thank you! PS: Apologies for the novel, but I wanted to make sure I captured just how helpful and accommodating this business is.

The location is fantastic and the concept is great. Unfortunately Castaways has not been kept up to standard. There is black mould on the tents. There are no facilities to store clothes - not even a table to put a suitcase on. In the bathroom - no mirror, no toilet roll holder, no soap dish in the shower. In our unit (No 2) it was impossible to sit on the small deck as it is in full sunlight all afternoon. The worst item was the noise. For 2 nights of our 3 night stay there was a party of school children right behind us, with shrieking and whooping from 6am till about 9am and again from about 4pm until 9pm the first night, and well after that until we complained the second night. Finally there is a very loud generator which kicks in about midnight and runs for a couple of hours. When you're aiming for a restful holiday this is the last thing you want - when I complained I was told there is nothing they can do about it. If you still go after all this (and apart from these complaints it's a great place) then I suggest you ask for units 1 through 5 as they are the furthest from the noise. On the plus side it's a 5 minute walk from the beach, an easy drive from the ferry and right next to a store and restaurant; the communal kitchen and dining facilities are OK given that you are semi camping, there is plenty of fridge capacity and adequate cooking facilities and utensils (we brought our own glasses, cutlery and crockery and I would advise the same) The staff were great and a special shout out to Bec who tried her best to help us with the noise problems

The MiCat ferry trip was very good. The camping experience had many shortfalls. None of the camp areas were consistently or logically marked or numbered in accord with the booking references. The restriction of one vehicle per site is utterly ridiculous as the sites can be distant and many campers go in a 4X4 groups and there is plenty of room for more than one vehicle per site and it is essential for a family group to be together. The camp sites were not policed and the first in first served idea was not adhered to by some campers and made the experience somewhat confrontational to secure a site. Access to the Western beach was limited when the tide was up. The simple removal of some branches would give access at least at half tide. This has safety implications for emergencies. On the Eastern camp area, again very few sites had totem signs. There were many groups camped at random. At least one site totem lettering showed no relation to south eastern beach, this was confusing when trying to relate the booking to a camp site. No rangers were sighted to check our wellbeing or confirm sites. A beautiful Island camping experience but booking and policing needs to be improved especially as so many vehicles and campers are allowed per day.

BOAT WAS FLYING APART! - Lawyers and whoever is in charge of certifying boat safety will also be contacted - -Occurred Thurs 1pm - 3pm 1-12-22 FIVE CORRUGATED SHEETS OF METAL SHEETING ON THE VEHICLE DECK CEILING (5m x 1 m) CAME OFF DURING HIGHER THAN USUAL WINDS ON THE TRIP BACK TO BRISBANE, DAMAGING 4WDs ON THE VEHICLE DECK. IT WAS SUCH A DANGEROUS SITUATION, PEOPLE WERE ASKED TO GO/STAY UPSTAIRS OR NOT TO LEAVE THEIR CARS AND TO ROLL UP THE WINDOWS IN CASE THEY WERE HIT BY FLYING METAL SHEETS. Larger than usual winds should NOT damage a boat like this. The wind/waves weren't that crazy and should be expected every so often. Also - there are a lot of rust stains on the vessel. If you can't keep the roof secure and rust cleared, WHAT ELSE is poorly secured/maintained? This was a VERY unsafe trip. I hope the authorities look into this ferry and how it's maintained. The wind and waves were not unexpected or unusual but the boat performed poorly. They went half speed so it wouldn't rip the boat apart further! That's a management issue - as the staff actually THERE were excellent. We actually had MORE issues, prior to boarding, but I don't want to list them next to this important one. DO BETTER- LIVES ARE AT STAKE!

This is our 3rd or 4th visit since Glamping was introduced and we have always had a fabulous time. I have two issues that I think need addressing and that is the cleanliness of the Camp Kitchen Facilities. We had to request that someone clean the kitchen both on this and our previous visit. The refrigerator we used was quite dirty. There was no detergent to enable washing up, although was provided once requested. We were a party of two couples and we thoroughly cleaned all the surfaces and equipment that we used. The cupboards storing all equipment were dirty and one cupboard could not be opened. There is no toaster so you need to allow extra time to cook toast on the BBQ flat plate. The tents are adequate , however in the en-suite there is a lot of dirt and mould that needs removing. There was a small mirror available on our previous visits but these have now been removed. We have always found the staff to be very courteous and obliging and in particular Maui who responded to the kitchen issue as promptly as possible and was friendly and professional.

The location of Blue Crab House was brilliant with 150 degree views west over Moreton Bay. However the state of the house was a little disappointing. We'd stayed at this house two years ago and even then there were little things that needed repairing. This time the list was longer with broken furniture; faulty lights; faulty barbecue burners; a missing smoke detector on the downstairs level and other more minor details like missing shelves in the fridge, that indicate that the owner is not being responsible. Moreton Island Adventures are good to deal with and Paula, the manager, always seems to be helpful, but I wonder who is responsible for making sure that these faults are fixed before the next renter comes into the house. Based on our last two experiences with Blue Crab House, I wouldn't want to stay there again unless I was sure that the faults were seen to.

Could rate this 0 stars. Currently stranded without a car & a way to get back to Gold Coast as we were provided the wrong time to return and even confirmed this. The ferry left without us and now our car is locked inside the gate. No after hours number or help. Have rang the phone number over 30 times and every single business in the surrounding area. Reply: You clearly do have records of this if you knew another ferry took her back for the negligence that you didn’t account for everyone and she was left behind. She was advised by your staff that it left at 3:15, I had called your office numerous times, spoke to port of Brisbane, the Brisbane police. More than happy to send you my phone logs for all the numbers I dialled on Friday. An apology would of been suffice, rather than ignoring the fact that this happened. In the future there should be an after hours emergency number for the car parking.

We had a great 3 nights at Castaways in the glamping tents which were set around a picturesque garden with birds and wildlife. Great camp kitchen which allowed friendly interaction with other guests. Insect screens in the glamping bathrooms would be a good addition. The booking procedure was made easy through the Moreton Island Adventure website, allowing ferry (Micat) booking, permits and accomm all on 1 site. The Micat staff run it very efficiently - it's great to have compressed air to reinflate your tyres during the return trip. The only thing missing was that we never saw the shop open, arriving after 3pm and having our free day on Wednesday (their day off). We also didn't see the cook-your-own meals advertised on the website - they looked fabulous from our fellow campers at the camp kitchen.

Beautiful island with some of the clearest beaches I’ve seen. Lots to explore from the old lighthouse to whale spotting and wreck snorkeling. My only negative is the inability to book a specific beach campsite. The area we booked had no available sites so we went to a different area and found one. Changing the details was a very easy and pleasant process and the team couldn’t have been more helpful during the entire booking process but I feel it’s easier if you know precisely which campsite you book instead of driving around to find one with an incoming tide. With that in mind , it was a long weekend and school holidays so was always go to be full. Don’t let that deter you, this place is amazing and just a short 90 minute ferry from Brisbane. We will definitely be back many times.

Has dramatically changed over the years which is disapointing. This is a national park and care needs to be paid close attention to maintaining the island in a way that doesn't alter the landscape. Dozing middle road has been eye opening no matter the reason. But still tangas bypass entry is still a mess! So what's the point. Campsite are generally dirty and have had clearing. Opening up what was once protection from the elements. I have been back and forwards to this place for over 25 years and this is the worst I've seen it. Maybe the new management can limit traffic or have down time for the island to recover. Positives are that it's a fantastic place of you leave it as you find it, drive sensibly and avoid others who are not equipped to be on the island. Plenty to see and do if you know your way around.

The Island was great and there is lots to do. Lots of great 4wd tracks and wide open beaches. The locals are awesome and very helpful. We stayed at Tangalooma Resort and I was surprised at the state of the place. It is basis and dated. The food at the resort was comparable to a bad pub feed. It is not hard to produce good food but for some reason it was not good at all. The staff in the resort are easy going and casual and that's half the problem. To casual... I would definitely recommend to anyone the island as a holiday destination but I would definitely not recommend the resort unless you like dated accommodation and very basic food. The Island I would rate as a 5/5 hands down. The resort I would rate 2/5.

What an excellent trip out to Moreton Island for a family wedding. Unfortunately it rained pretty much the whole time, such is life. The resort and facilities are fantastic and there's lots to do for all ages at a reasonable cost. We took our 4WD over to see a bit more of the Island and I think the only let down is the lack of easily visible signage on the Western Beach to indicate where the middle track is. We were travelling North to South along the beach (no phone or internet available on that side) so missed the middle marker which was obscured and ended up driving almost the length of the island. Recommend it for sure.

I think they have too many people in their tours. The guides are good but the group sizes are hard to organize. Plan for 12 hours minimum. They split groups into thirds, one does kayaking, one does snorkeling and one does sand boarding. They serve lunch after the kayaking and snorkeling groups have done both activities. The sand boarding takes as long as the two sea activities because the drive to/from “The Desert” defines the activity time. If you’re in the sea activity group they want you to eat and get on the bus kind of quick so it would make sense to let the sea activity folks start lunch first so they don’t have to rush.

We booked a day trip to the island, I would've loved to stay at least 2/3 days but time wasn't on our side this time. 10:15am boarding as 6am was all booked out so I booked the latest exit I could. Only to be told 3 days out from boarding that our exit was pushed back to 5pm and they had cancelled the late departure. This seriously cut our time on the island and as I'm from Sydney its not a easy thing to get there. but we got on, and even though our time was short the few hrs. were spent wisely. A little disappointing due to the lack of explanation Why and the timing of the notification, but Moreton Island is still 1 of my favorite places in Aus.

I read all the review prior to going and booking at castaways and we were a little hesitant, but OMG this place is AMAZING. We stayed in the unit right next to the shop it was small but slept 5 adults if needed, it’s basic but it’s better than camping... I would love to go back! (Unit 7) The staff go above and beyond and are the nicest managers we have ever encountered on a holiday - nothing is a bother.. We took our food over but 2 nights we ate at castaways food is beautiful, some say overpriced but no different to any place at Brisbane average meals around 20-26 Pat on the back to everyone at castaways!! We will be back !!!

Ferry service was great. Very efficient loading and unloading at both ends of the trip. Compressed air service on the ferry was very handy for the trip back to Brisbane. All staff on board were very friendly and the food / drinks service onboard were very welcome after a week on the island. Accommodation at Tangalooma was great. Rooms were a very good standard. Meals on the island were nice, similar to your local pub type menu and priced very well. Look forward to my next rip to Moreton Island

We only used the MICAT ferry however overall the experience was great. It did take us quite some time to board and get going, however, that was to be expected. When you're trying to load a ferry with a bunch of cars and people, of course it's going to take time. The staff on board were quite helpful, especially when directing traffic/parking and I really appreciated the air compressor hoses on board that allowed me to pump my tyres back up without having to use my own personal (much slower) compressor.

Thank you MICAT, very good experience, got food, drinks and coffee you can buy, the island itself is ok, the shops and restaurants do not serve anyone unless you are a private resort guest. Me and my crew get off the ferry around 6am, and struggling with finding food and water, due to the strong heat me myself was nearly passed out, MICAT are nice to let us get food and drinks when they stopped at the island port at 10am before they leave again even though we are not boarding for that time. They technically saved my life as I was at a point of passing out due to starvation and dehydration.

We really enjoyed our holiday to Tangalooma. They did very well considering the problems with the Coronavirus Pandemic. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, there were a few times in the restaurants the they could have done with more staff. We enjoyed the dolphin feeding, snorkeling on the wrecks and all the other sites on the island. The accommodation was very comfortable and clean. The trip on the barge was enjoyable as well. We will definitely be back.

We have visited Moreton Island a few times now but this was our first time taking our car across. We booked late so had very anti-social ferry times however as we got closer to the date more spaced became available at better times and the team were very helpful in rescheduling our travel. While on the island we found everyone to be friendly and helpful, reception staff in particular went out of their way to provide excellent information about driving around the island.

Good experience. Had a fantastic time. Little disappointed when told they couldn't make a ham and cheese toasty as advertised. The hot food was limited to pies and sausage rolls. After being on the island for a week they are missing out on a huge market by lack of hot food. Coffee was good and was reasonably clean. Have facilities onboard to pump up tyres for the return quickly. Just be prepared to pay more than the original advertised price.

Great location and very friendly staff. Always helpful and accommodating. The room had all that we needed for our stay and the kitchen was very well equipped! Also at the nearby cafe they sell items you can cook yourself, at the bbq. We also paid for our transportation from the Ship wrecks to the rooms and although we believed that it was pricey initially, it was worth it (otherwise you have to walk for 3 hours under the sun).

Such an amazing stay at Moreton. We travelled with a large group and it wasn't hard to find a spectacular location to accommodate the 21 of us. The campsites were clean and free from any rubbish, probably a reflection on the type of people that the island attracts. At the time we were on the island, the dump points were both out of action and there was no alternatives in place to dispose of toilet waste. This was not a huge deal breaker, but one that needs attention.

Made a rush booking on the phone with kids running around in a park. Because i had no beer in hand, i booked the wrong dates... Swiftly canceled my bookings and changed the dates. Resulting in prices changes and credits on my account. Contacted the team to see if i could get a refund rather than a credit. The team were quick to respond via email and friendly. Dollars back in my accounts. Lots of love.

I just found out this is for the ferry. Ferry was awsome. Easy to book. Comfortable clean. Nice and helpful staffs. This is for the island: No directions no help nothing there. People and cars are moving everywhere, there is no pathways or road and it's very dangerous especially when you are with kids. If it's your first time you will wonder around for a quite some time to find your way. But in the end it is a very beautiful island and it's worth to visit.

We had such a lovely time despite the rainy weather. The staff were all still so kind and helpful. The kiosk is stocked with all the essentials and more. The dolphins still came out in the rain. No complaints with the barge or the staff, it was a great experience, but thinking how much easier and safer loading cars would be if the through traffic and beach goers were stopped whilst loading. Someone is bound to be hit by a vehicle or hit another vehicle. Probably a huge ask ‍♀️ thanks for reading. Loved my 2 weeks on Moreton even with cyclone Seth.

Great experience. Staff on the ferry are super friendly and the food is decent. The booking process was also easy and very responsive. Police were breathalising drivers on arrival on Moreton Island and staff checked camping bookings so be prepared to show these on your phone.

You have restrooms inside and if you are coming for a day trip without a car would highly suggest you get changed before you get off the boat One of the best experiences i have had in recent times

Moreton Island was awesome staff was alway helpful and polite and the water was magic. The only one thing the rooms were a little dated but we just went exploring awesome part of the world very family friendly.

Do not offer refunds, even with advance notice. Once you book you are completely locked in. It is worth seeking alternative travel instead of taking the risk of losing your money, especially in these uncertain times. This company has no compassion at all.

Easy drive on and off the ferry. Staff amazing at playing Tetris with all levels of drivers. Grab a beer and sit on the top deck.

Excellent camping site, we stayed at Comboyuro, clean toilets, maybe showers need a bit of attention. Ferry was nice, clean and you can also inflate your tires with a compressor that is on the ferry (not many people knows this)

The Micat is a lovely trip over to Moreton. I've been walk on for 4 trips now. Friendly staff, good offerings at the cafe/bar. Smooth trip, even in really windy/choppy weather. Pricey, but a lovely 90min trip

Micat Ferry was great, comfortable seating and lovely views. Not giving 5 star as my boyfriend and I are gluten free (coeliac) and they didn’t have anything available on board to feed us.
