We spoke with multiple staff members over the course of several weeks expressing our concern and frustration about the overall lack of cleanliness of the facility, access to cleaning wipes for guests and confusing signage in regards to what the Arizona Requirements are for Indoor Gyms/Fitness Clubs /Centers. It was suggested by one of the employees to email the general manager, Danielle H. I emailed her twice within a 2 1/2 week period; zero response, zero acknowledgment. I emailed corporate with a general inquiry on who I could email regarding our concerns about the facility. After receiving a fairly fast response from Megan M, I proceeded to thank her for the quick response and included the same email that was sent to Danielle H. After not hearing anything for over a week from Megan M, I emailed her a second time. Once again, no response and no acknowledgment. My email is as follows. We have spoken to multiple staff members over the last several weeks expressing our concern and frustration about the overall lack of cleanliness of the facility, access to cleaning wipes for guests and confusing signage in regards to what the Arizona Requirements are for Indoor Gyms/Fitness Clubs/Centers. For the cost of our monthly membership and annual fee, we should see staff cleaning far more often, ensuring guests have access to cleaning wipes and/or supplies in addition to more cleaning stations. There is only one wipe station for the entire west wall of the free weight and squat section. This particular cleaning station and quite a few others are more often that not empty. When the cleaning stations are empty, guests generally don't wipe the equipment. In regards to the health and well being of your guests, the signs posted throughout your facility need to be clear, consistent and accurate according to Arizona State Law. I have attached the Arizona Requirements for Indoor Gyms/Fitness Clubs/Centers for your review; specifically, page 5, section "Protect yourself while visiting gyms", bullet point "Your are required to wear a mask while at the facility". Reads as follows; - In accordance with CDC guidelines, individuals who are engaged in high intensity activities, like running, may not be able to wear a mask if it causes difficulty breathing. - If unable to wear a mask, these individuals should not participate in activities conducted at indoor gyms and fitness centers. After canceling our memberships today, we received 3 emails that had your Membership Cancel Request Forms attached. This form has 3 questions that I should have been asked by Garrett when canceling. The answers are filled out as if I answered them myself. I find this bothersome as I was not asked or informed of any questions or cancellation survey at the time I was canceling our membership nor did I authorize anyone else to answer them for me. Correct answers are as follows; My experience - 4 Return to MS - low probability unless changes are made Keep us as members - low probability unless changes are made We had previously enjoyed working out at the Desert Ridge Mountainside and are disappointed that we had to cancel our memberships after feeling we were not being heard. Respectfully, Stephanie Brent

I must say so far I agree with others about crappy customer service.. I've been to my share of gyms and have worked at one a while ago (and retail..) What they consider customer service there is unacceptable! I came in with a 3 months trial membership I purchased at Costco and gotten the most rotten attitude from a person in charge of membership basically saying you should have come talk to us before purchasing because we would have given you a better rate. Um.. we did come to talk to you and you didn't give us a better rate thus this trial membership. After he silently and cringe-faced signed me in there was no "welcome to the gym".. no "hope you join us after your membership expires, we'll give you a better rate".. not even a smile.. not even as little as thank you.. none of that. That's just not what you do as a membership sales person... Both my bf and I came in at separate times and we both agreed there is complete lack of customer service. This was my first impression and it's lasting.. I did come there to walk thru prior to purchasing the trial membership and as someone else mentioned they wouldn't let me as far as look ahead without signing the card. Well I don't mind giving my information if I'm signing but definitely not to be hounded all day by junk mail and calls. I agree with towels all over locker room on floors and witnessed a person using 3 at a time in a sauna and just left them there as if she's too good to clean up after herself. Not a gym problem per se but do have a more active staff for this. I'm not sure I'll be joining after trial, which is a shame because it is a beautiful facility otherwise and it doesn't have to be this way.

This Mountainside fitness has the potential to be a great place to work out, IF they can iron out some of their wrinkles. I'm a relatively new member, having come over from Lifetime, so my expectations were high. I didn't expect a gym like Lifetime, but I certainly don't want it to be like LA Fitness, and actually, to LA Fitness' credit, they are getting better (I have a membership there too). This Mountainside is a disaster. There is equipment strewn everywhere and you can never find anything g because either members don't put it back (shame on you if you don't!) or the staff there don't. Now, it's bad when members don't have the courtesy to pick up after themselves, but it is the staff's duty to pick up the place. Just Las night I was at AN LA Fitness and was amazed at how neat and organized everything was. And they are half the cost. Let's talk about the personal trainers. I've hired a few over the years and when I hire one I expect them to look like they work out. Would you take advice from a trainer who can't walk the walk? I wouldn't. Most of the training staff don't even look like they pick up a weight. It's kinda comical, actually, that they expect people to hire a trainer that doesn't look like he trains himself. I'm pretty sure I bench more than they do. Anyway, I'm sure there are some positives... I like the sled and the tire I can flip. The cross functional area is great, but these alone may not be enough to keep me around. I may go back to Lifetime. At least there the trainers look like trainers.

I was out of state for nearly a year. Came back and joined mountainside again. YOU really get to appreciate these gyms when you go to the others for a while. Today though has the experience that prompted me to write a review. I've noticed that the first and last faces you see (front desk employees) have been outstanding at both Mesa (off Greenfield) and the Desert ridge location. This morning though I left a bracelet of little value expense wise, but significant value to me. I asked Xao if by chance it was turned in. He genuinely seemed interested in helping me. We had no luck, so I went back to the locker room to check again. I had no luck once again. Thanked Xao and left. The same afternoon I went back because I thought perhaps I left it on a machine. I was dressed different when I returned. Xao checked me in and then said, "weren't you here earlier?". I was surprised he recognized me because I had a hat and sweats on in the morning. He then said they had found my bracelet. I was just so impressed that he would recognize me and make it an important thing to have found it and hold it for me. Want to pass on my impression today. Not only for the excellent job of getting good people these locations are doing, but particularly Xao in this instance. ** Was just reminded that I would be remiss not to mention how excellent Allyson (sp?) In Mesa was signing two of us up. Very knowledgeable, courteous, and pleasant. Super!

I'm surprised there are negative reviews on this gym, I've been working out for over 10 years and been a member to several throughout my time in Raleigh, and Phoenix. I'd say this is by far one of the greatest in terms of gym atmosphere's. The staff are very friendly and work hard to keep the locker rooms clean as well as bathrooms always stocked. I'd say beginners may feel overwhelmed since it does get crowded but there's enough equipment variety that one can always improvise their workouts as I've had to do. I can't blame the gym if it's crowded during the 4-6:30 period as 95% of gyms experience this issue, It's more on the member to do their research or purchase training sessions to learn new workouts. What I really like the most is there's a general attitude that many members come there to workout hard and keep up that positive aura. Although there might be a few cardio machines out of service there are plenty of other's nearby that work and this happens at all gym's including Lifetime which I've been a member in the past. Overall I'd give this gym a 9 out of 10 and feel the only thing lacking is they need to order more clips for the barbells since it's frustrating looking for clips when I want to do specific compound lifts. Thank you Mountainside for excelling as a gym and I'll be a member for as long as I can. Dan M

I used to be a devoted fan of a larger, pricier gym located in North Scottsdale (Gym-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named). However, due to recent rate increases, I began my search for a more budget-friendly option. As someone who works out frequently, hitting the gym about 2-4 times per week, I prefer group fitness classes. This year, I came across Mountainside Fitness, and it turned out to be a perfect fit. The fact that there are two locations conveniently situated for me is fantastic. What made the experience even better was that many of my favorite instructors from gyms I frequented long ago are now teaching classes at Mountainside Fitness. It felt like reconnecting with old friends and discovering a new fitness home. The app they provide is user-friendly, and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Once I found my favorite teachers and classes, I became a regular attendee. While there were a few instructors whose style didn't suit me, I found about 10 others that I absolutely love—more than enough to make this gym a truly spectacular experience! The unbeatable prices, coupled with the gym's excellent maintenance and cleanliness, make it an easy choice. I highly recommend this local establishment to anyone looking to get their fitness on! Enjoy!

My partner and I have been regularly attending this gym for the past 5 months. We were originally drawn to this gym as it is a family friendly gym with clean facilities. When we first joined the gym, we were given a free consultation to better acclimate us to the environment. Through this consultation, we both purchased a 6-month package for personal training services and were assigned Adam as our personal trainer. We were quite lucky with being assigned Adam, as he is a more than qualified trainer given that he has numerous certifications. Adam has been a fantastic trainer and my partner and I both look forward to our trainings with him. During our trainings, he finds the right balance between pushing us in an encouraging manner, however, never pressures us into a workout our weight that would make us uncomfortable or unsafe. He is quick to identify and correct any issues he sees with our form to ensure we do not injure ourselves. As a result of these personal training services with Adam, we’ve noticed clear results both physically and mentally. If you’re signing up for services, we highly recommend requesting Adam as your trainer.

I love the gym itself. The sled, crossfit area, etc are great that other local gyms don't have. At least, what I have been finding. Customer service might as well be self-serve. Employees do not police the area- i.e. pick up rags, trash, put up weights, etc. There is one older guy that does, but all others lack of action overshadows his. There have been times were I have had to clear a workout area- rags, used sanitizer wipes, random equipment, etc. I have also witnessed the same pieces of trash in corners for weeks on end. Several weeks ago, the decline bench was missing two major bottom bolts and several were so loose the whole bench shook. With the status of other machines and environment, I am under the conclusion that no one cleans the equipment let alone effin' does a maintenance check. Where are the managers? This is management 101. Hire me and I'll whip your punk employees into proper customer loving Mountainside Fitness ambassadors or send them packing and hire ones that actually want to earn a paycheck and have pride.

A few complaints: 1) High percent of 15 year olds with backpacks that huddle in groups of 5 while one of the kids trying to use equipment. Feels like an after school babysitting facility. 2) dry sauna in men’s room is perpetually used by guys sitting inside in their sweaty gym clothes. Small sign in front of door says to shower before entering (common sense, you think?). Why are these idiots using this as a private sauna to “sweat out” while wearing their stinky gym clothes? So I notify an employee upfront regarding this and he smirks and says it’s not his job to do anything. 3) I’ve been to many gyms that have a system of spray bottles and recycled paper towels. This system works great and is good for the environment. This gym instead has Purell hand sanitizer wipes made of synthetic fibers that are non-biodegradable. Come on gym, step up your game. 2-1-2023 Tony Gilbert / District Manager at Mountainside Fitness was professional enough to call me and discuss things going on at the gym(s). I appreciate his outreach.

My favorite thing about Mountainside would have to be my Personal Trainer, Tom. I signed up for personal training because I knew I would need the extra level of accountability that my sessions provide. Tom goes above and beyond the expectations I had of a trainer! He checks in with me daily, constantly reassesses me to ensure that I am meeting my workout goals, and is able to differentiate between the "I'm tired" and need to be pushed to finish my exercises versus the strain that may actually cause me harm! He is fabulous and I just can't say enough wonderful things about him! This gym is conveniently located at Desert Ridge Marketplace. They offer a variety of classes-Yoga, Spin, Aerobics, Zumba, etc-that suit beginners (like me) through to advanced (where I want to be someday)! The flexibility of trainers being available during what appears to be every hour that the gym is open really helps negate any potential scheduling conflicts that may arise. Plus, their in-house juice bar, coffee and snacks are really tasty!

Place has old weights, the metal kind that are banged up. Older machines, and not a very good selection of equipment . It's like a glorified planet fitness, with heavier weights. Honestly, EOS Scottsdale is by far the best for the price vs this place. Staff was unhelpful, and didn't show me around even though it was my first time. They only had one machine that you could slap weights on per body part, and those were all taken by people sitting there, looking at their phones, and picking their nails. They had other machines that you could just pull the pin out and put it back into your desired weight, but that's the same thing planet fitness has. And with EOS and planet fitness only being $10 a month, and this place costing me 45, why would I ever stay with mountainside? I literally cut my work out short and heading down to their shea facility to see if that's any better than this place. Check out my review on Shea under reviews after I try it out.

I think that this place is a great place to workout. Obviously, if you want to workout to a corporate gym expect a crowded and noisy environment. Logically speaking, you can't stop people from using their phones because nowadays it is necessary to be with your phone for emergencies, business and school transactions. The restroom for women is always clean except when these "queens of anything" didn't even know how to properly drop off their used towels. The only thing that they need to improve is the number of benches/chair esp. the one for shoulder press. Management should do something about that. Don't assume that one shoulder press chair is enough, know the ratio of the machines vs. your customers. I don't expect the workers here to smile all the time. I mean, they are not robots anyway. As long as they are doing their jobs and they are civilize. If you want to be healthy and stay fit and mind your own business then join this gym. ❤

This gym is crowded! I have the hardest time working a fitness program because it's very difficult to get on a weight machine, use the cross training area, or find open floor space. In addition, the equipment is old/worn out and, in my opinion, there is not enough of the most popular weight options (e.g. squat racks and pulleys). This is especially discouraging since all members are charged a mandatory annual fee for gym upgrades. 3/21/19 Despite the fact that this gym is still very crowded, I want to thank Mountainside for the recent changes to their Desert Ridge location, including increased floor space, additional equipment, and aesthetic upgrades. I'll keep hoping that Mountainside builds another gym in this area to accommodate the growing residential population (this is a great gym for many reasons), but it is great to know that I was wrong in my last review, and that they do have integrity. ...with gratitude.

I’ve been coming to mountainside for about 7 months now and it’s had a great impact on me. The gym itself and the equipment have a really nice quality to them, theirs is such a variety to it’s great to see how many way your muscles can be worked. The trainers at the gym are incredible too. I work with Adam and he always pushes me to work really hard and never gives up on me or any of his other clients. He always pushes his clients to find new strengths, im a competitive gymnast and i’ve seen more change in my body this past 7 months than i have in the past 2 years. Mountainside Desert Ridge has a really positive atmosphere when you walk in and the front desk are always really polite. The locker rooms are very spacious and have good lighting for posing pictures too. I highly recommend coming to mountainside Desert Ridge if you want to see a change in yourself.

I was one of the first employees to work at mountainside. When I joined for a few months while in town for work. I was happy with the rate they gave me for former employees which was promised to us all in 2004. However JUST LIKE EoS this company doesn’t handle cancellations. I moved to Charlotte North Carolina in March. Canceled over phone with someone since I couldn’t physically go into the gym and do it… BECAUSE MY COMPANY MOVED ME. I literally just got another charge today after being assured it would not happen again but no refund. Wow. Also they charged me the full price not the rate they we’re charging me when I signed up for being an employee. Hopefully this post will get someone’s attention since it’s almost 11am EST after holiday weekend… and not a single employee can help me over the phone yet…?

Where do I start, this gym is what I think about when I think of a well rounded clean gym. Nothing is perfect and there is always room for improvement; which is why I didn't give it a 5 star review. I almost didn't become a member due to a very unseasoned, unprofessional and pushy sales rep by the name of Jillian. However a gal by the name of Elizabeth Bradley quickly turned my lackluster and poor experience around with her amazing customer service. Her positive energy, knowledge, and ability to listen to the customer's needs twice as much as she spoke; reminded me that perhaps this could simply be a coaching opportunity for Jillian. I became a member and will definitely be referring friends and family to come and check out the fym. For a great customer service experience speak to Elizabeth.

I recently joined the Mountainside Desert Ridge gym this year, and I'm very happy that I did! The facility is well kept, clean, and has a variety of equipment. The staff are always very friendly as well. I've taken both group fitness classes and personal training sessions from here. The classes are fun and cater to a diverse set of fitness interests. The personal training is wonderful as well. During the personal training consultation process, they really get to know the client and cater a program around their needs and goals. My trainer Adam is amazing to work with, and I'm grateful to have learned a lot from him during our time working together. He always pushes me to do my best and challenges me to try new equipment and workouts which make the experience both enjoyable and fun.

I am just visiting Pheonix and wish there was a gym like this where I am from. The staff was friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was positive with upbeat background music. The equipment was clean and plentiful. There is a spin room and what seemed like a HIIT room. Dry Sauna and Steam rooms were located in the men's locker room (I assume the same is available for the ladies). The locker room was spacious and clean with several shower stalls. There is a pre work out and protein shake bar. The coolest part is the kids area. It looked like there was an inflatable slide/ bounce house and basketball court and there was a moniter that was visible from any where in the work out area that rotated between the cameras that view the kids room. We need one of these in East TN.

  • Gregorio Gonzalez

I love Mountainside Fitness, however this location is getting a combo 5 star 1 star = 3 star The good: Plenty of space lots of equipment even a sled and tire and never need to wait to use equipment and is clean. Plenty of free towels, sitting area and even mouthwash and Qtips. Caveat my experience here is limited to 430am workouts The bad: This is the only location I've been to that continually does not have the steam room and sauna working more than 2 days in a row, there are no fans in Men's locker room so that shower steam and stank just sit there and the water pressure for the showers is like a 3rd world spiget Conclusion: great gym for your workout but not accommodating if you need to use facilities to get ready for work

  • Kimberly Dwyer

The gym is okay, Id like to see more weight machines per body/exercise type as they tend to get backed up fast. Towel service is always fully stocked, which is nice. I have two issues to note. 1-the stand up tanning bed REALLY needs to be cleaned more often. 2- At the time I joined, it was advertised that there was a gift card included for joining at that time. I was told it would be mailed to me. I have never received it. I have since asked at club, emailed 3 times management and through the website and have NEVER received an answer or follow-up OF ANY KIND. While the gift card itself would be nice, it's not the biggest deal here, it is the blatant lack of INTEGRITY to follow through and honor their advertised promotions!

  • S E

Very disappointed in this gym. It has the makings of a great all around gym which is far superior to other "Big Box" gyms. It has amenities galore and is generally clean. The staff are friendly but they don't enforce basic gym etiquette: weights are seldom re-racked and equipment wiped down by the "gym bros". These are the people that cannot exist in a hard core bodybuilding gym so they monopolize equipment with "super sets" during busy hours and scan their IG accounts between sets. Enforce the rules and kill the flaccid "gym bro" culture and this place would be awesome. Until then, spend your time at Metroflex, Independence, or Self Made Training. They seem more intimidating, but their culture is more Pro, less Bro....

So, I come to check out this gym with my boyfriend (who currently uses this mountainside) and I’m currently an LA memeber, so I came here to see if the switch is worth all the money, and ya the GYM is very nice and they offer a lot, but the STAFF is garbage. A bunch of kids work here and clearly don’t care or just hate their jobs. The girl who I was lucky enough to speak with had no interest in my business or even remotely tried to “sell” me the gym. She basically was like “I need something from you now” and it was super awkward and weird. She threw a bunch of number in my face and then sat there and stared at me..I honestly wanted to leave because of that interaction. But the gym was cool.

Mountainside Fitness at Desert Ridge offers great cardio and muscle group classes that allows me to get in and out within an hour. My husband who works out on the main floor states that the equipments are clean, maintained, and fixed in a timely manner. Adam, who is a personal trainer, trains my teenage daughter a couple times a week. His specific workout regimen has helped with her club volleyball game immensely. Our youngest child likes to go to the childcare. The staff has always been sweet and patient with our girls through the years. We joined this location since it opened five years ago and we're glad we made the change to become members here.

I’m a previous member and in town visiting, so naturally wanted to be able to go back to my previous home gym I spent 6 years working out in. Despite my awful timing coming in to sign up literally as Christian was walking out to leave, he happily sat back down and assisted me with getting my membership back up so I could keep my routine up while here for the month. I really appreciated him being so kind and helpful despite the fact he had to stay behind past his scheduled time to get my membership set up for me! It’s a great gym with even better people and I’m always happy when I get the chance to come back here for my lifts.

  • love joAmo

So, apparently, they have been under construction in the men’s locker room, and this involves the stalls of the showers leading to two avail showers only at this present time. The real downside about this is the fact it’s been a month! Ranging from July 20th to today, as I write, August 20th, 2021. There needs to be a better communicative procedure such as posting it on the website for this facility, including why, what, where and how. Meaning estimated time to completion, what’s being done, and how is this conflicting. I don’t know what takes a month then a 30 day lease notice of vacancy, but it needs to be told. Thank you!

  • Mark Shemaria

I've found Mountainside staff to be friendly and the gym floor and machines are always clean. The locker room and spa facilities are also kept clean and organized. This is a superior gym! The gym is very well laid out for my needs and there is plenty of equipment to use and a great selection of machines and free weights! Been working with Adam C for personal training, he has done a great job helping me put together a custom routine that is right for me and not just a one-size fits all. He has tailored the workout to my age and current condition focusing on overall improvement in strength and endurance over time.

  • Joey Diedrick

I recently joined Mountainside Fitness about 3 months ago. I find the gym to be very well operated, always clean and the staff are always friendly. No matter what time of day or any day of the week I can find machines available to work out on. After I joined I also signed up for a personal training with Adam. My training session is twice a week with Adam. I really enjoy what Adam teaches me about working out. Adam is extremely knowledgeable about training and is very good about mixing up the workouts so you start seeing improvements and makes sure to have fun challenges for you to do each session.

I normally don't write reviews but felt this would be a great place to start. I've been going to this gym for about 2 weeks now and love it. Everyone is very friendly, the classes are really fun, and the members are helpful when you're new also. I've gone to other gyms where I didn't feel as welcomed. I drive about 15 minutes to get here and it's worth it. I'll drive here vs. The one across the street from my house. There's classes all day long going which is convenient. The amount you pay a month is reasonable with all of what comes with it. It's a very nice, clean, and well kept facility.

  • Daniel Pendleton

I mainly take the classes that they offer. All of the instructors for the classes I attend are always very nice and fun. Many of them will remember your name if you're a regular. They whole gym is pretty clean including the locker rooms. Sometimes the sauna floor is dirty but it's hard to knock the facility in that as people will walk in with their street shoes on but overall the entire place is clean. I chose the 18 month plan paying monthly and it is a very reasonable price for the inclusion of the kicker room with dry and wet sauna, towel service and enough classes throughout the day.

  • Jeffrey Parsons

I do not recommend this gym. They constantly play horrible, loud music you can't drown out with earphones. Way too busy in the evening with bros who have no idea how to share machines or clean up after themselves. However, the equipment is very nice. Just don't try using any of it from 4 to 7pm. Staff of millennial kids is often grumpy and unfriendly. The other Mountainside gyms are much better. REPLY: Did you even read my post? How about enforcing the rules of good gym conduct? Like no phone calls, put weights back on the rack, wipe the seat dry, and don't be a jerk on the gym floor?

  • Kelsey Garner

Always greeted by a friendly face. The employees are always working hard to help the members. You can tell its a very members first mentality. There are so many options for people at all fitness levels and something to help me achieve my goals no matter how much they change or develop. I've taken the new Peak Performance class twice now once with Monica and once with Xao and loved both. I'm training with Shannon and she is super knowledgeable and is pushing me to be my best. Overall I'm really happy with my experience at desert ridge Mountainside and would definitely recommend it!

  • Melissa Buse

So glad to be back at Mountainside! My husband and I left when we moved and switched to LA Fitness. The problem was... LA Fitness' kid's club was closed all the times I wanted to go :( Also there wasn't a large selection of classes available which was very frustrating to me. So we decided to come back to Mountainside and I can't fathom why we didn't find it worth the extra 10 min drive in the first place! Kids club 8 am to 8 pm, immaculately clean facilities, and the rogue rig my husband has been missing. I just want to add... so far staff has been super nice and helpful!

  • Richard Reader

We moved from Planet Fitness due to the abusive music and the atmosphere. We had no idea a place like MSF existed. It is so fresh and pleasant. It really is a wonderful place to exercise. We started with a trainer who treated us very well. His name is Adam. He showed us what equipment to use to reach our goals. He gave us exercises that would work for us and wrote them down so we could follow his program. He still greets us when we see him at the gym. We sure appreciated him getting us started. MSF is a wonderful place which I recommend to anyone who will listen.

Recently moved to the area and tried this location out. Be ready to bring a parka in order to workout. The gym is kept unreasonably cold even in winter months. Its 50 degrees and fans are on full blast like its 120 degrees in the middle of summer. Management is a joke asked about why the gym is kept so cold and just got thats what it is. Its too cold to workout I get sick and runny nose everytime in gym. The gym is pretty running down a lot of cardio machines needs servicing. Then lets not forget the children running around the gym like its a playground.

  • Curt Lewis

This location removed the only good ab crunch machine in the gym. Now there is NO decent ab machine available. I like the gym otherwise but the lack of a decent ab machine is really annoying. They just removed it and put in a back machine that is rarely used.. ONE WEEK AFTER I WROTE THIS REVIEW, I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED TO SEE THEY REPLACED THE AB CRUNCH MACHINE. I'm sure my one review didn't have a lot to do with it but I'm still happy about it. Everything else about the gym has always been very good, so I need to edit my review.

  • Robbie

This is a great location near Desert Ridge. Mountainside has opened several new locations across the country so I may have expected too much. This location is struggling with simple efficiency, logistics, getting the kinks out. Several things I have inquired about "have been ordered". I thought they would have this down to a science. Regardless, it is all new, clean equipment and even at it's busiest times of day/night are not as busy as my prior gym. Don't let the poor parking fool you. The locker room is clean (bring a lock).

I am in Phoenix for business and took a weekly pass to work out in the down time. The gym is very well laid out and there is plenty of iron to move around in the Cross-Fit section. For the machines there were all I needed and was wondering if there were any missing but could not come up with one. The change room feels more like a spa, very nice done. I really liked the kid section - if I come down with family I would certainly use it. You can leave the kids there for up to 2 hours a day for 4$/hr or 25$/month.

If you are looking for a gym where the weight equipment and treadmills are frequently broken and take forever to get fixed this is the place for you. Also, another poster is right about the staff not enforcing the rules that are posted throughout the gym. Many people do not re-rack the weights after using the equipment. There is nothing like having to remove hundreds of pounds in weights/plates from a machine in order to use it because the person before you is too lazy to remove them when they're done.

Love this gym! Highly recommend Demy as a personal trainer. If you're looking to learn quality and challenging workouts he is your person! He will push you to your limits and will show you workouts that will challenge you at any level. He also teaches boxing and I've had a blast learning how to box. Truly have gotten so much more out of what I was expecting from personal training here. Even if you have basic gym knowledge if you're looking to learn new workouts/exercises or boxing I recommend Demy!!

I love this gym. My kids love going to the kids center and unwinding after school. I love the monthly weekend events they do for the kids so we can get a nice night out. The gym always has what I need. I signed up for a few months with a trainer named Adam and he was so great. He really helped me come up with a plan and made me feel less intimidated about restarting my fitness journey. After a few months I was confident enough to not need a trainer but he still says hi to me every time.

  • Madison Bartholomew

Wow, such a great experience for my first week at Mountainside. We’re at the Desert Ridge location and I am consistently impressed by their friendliness, courtesy, and helpfulness. Not pushy AT ALL when it comes to personal trainers (I hate that so much, but they did offer to provide information which was great). Their amenities are awesome, overall “feeling” of the people around you totally normal, and smoothie bar at the end of the workout is icing on the cake :) SO glad I left EOS!

  • Lisa Gervase

Adam C. is great. I had the pleasure of working with Adam at the Desert Ridge location for several months and found him to be knowledgeable about how best to meet my fitness goals. He provided clear instructions for using the proper form for each exercise to build muscle and strength without injury. He is personable, a good communicator, responsible, dependable, and very caring. He continually improves his skills and knowledge by obtaining additional personal training education.

  • Courtney Cornwell

Mountainside Fitness is just the right fit all-around, for a single or family membership. The price is right, they have a good range of equipment and classes, and the personal training offering is robust. Trainer Adam Cates is flexible with training sessions, and effectively listens and observes to apply a well thought out approach. I recommend booking a session with Adam, he will make it just comfortable enough, but still challenging to make the progress you need.

  • Mike Elliott

I cannot comprehend some of the negative comments I have read. I have worked out here for the past year, and have never had an issue finding weights or equipment, or dealing with broken equipment. The facilities are clean, the staff is friendly, and there is ample room both inside and in the parking lot. I constantly see the staff picking up towels and putting away weights. This is a great place to workout. It's clean, modern, and classy. Absolutely no complaints.

  • Alexandria

We started coming to mountainside a couple years ago. At that time it was superior to any other gym we attended. As of late, the staff could care less about you. Upon arrival, they were too busy discussing that they did not get invited to an event and I had to wait to be scanned in. I have scanned myself in before because no was up front. Nothing is ever properly put back from the previous day. Lack of sanitation wipes. I pay $70 a month to do someone else’s job?

DO NOT EVER START UP A MEMBERSHIP WITH MOUNTAINSIDE FITNESS. This insanely predatory business will not let you cancel your membership and will continue to charge you no matter what. They will time you out of pre-paid personal training and have stolen over $1000 from me. I have tried to cancel THREE TIMES in person. They refuse to give refunds. They refuse to cancel. I have to cancel my credit card in order to stop this. Stay away from this cult at all costs.

  • Mark Naccarelli (AZ Tech Pros)

I've been a member of this Mountainside for several years. I like that the club keeps adding new equipment, however it's busting at the seams. You can't move around anymore. In some cases there's less than a foot or 2 between equipment. Just when I think they can't fit in another piece of equipment. They do. Couple this with big crowds that use the equipment as texting stations. It is so packed, I'm surprised the fire department hasn't stepped in.

  • Simon

I joined the club 2 months ago and have been working with a personal trainer (Adam Cates). I am seeing a huge improvement in muscle mass, fat loss and flexibility. The workout sessions have variety, always interesting and challenging and I’m learning a lot. The gym itself is awesome, great machines, free weights, cardio and an outside workout area. The locker rooms, children’s play area, studios and juice bar are first class. I highly recommend!

  • David Taylor

Great gym. Well-equipped, spacious and clean. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Equipment is well-maintained. Management is customer-oriented and puts the needs of the community and the individual users first. I was particularly impressed with the way they navigated the recent health scare - they successfully maintained a high-quality user experience while dealing with continuously shifting and sometimes confusing government requirements.

  • Ellen Haines

As an athlete and fitness instructor it can be difficult to find trainers that can actually teach me new things and challenge me. I’ve been work with Demy for a couple of months and am really happy. His workouts are varied, effective, and he will meet you where you’re at. This week he gave me a 1:1 boxing lesson and it was one of the most fun workouts I’ve had in a long time. I look forward to continue learning!

  • Marisa Campo

Joined Mountainside Fitness because of the hospitality Ben from the Desert Ridge location had. He was friendly and knowledgeable about the membership services and all the gym has to offer. He assured me the membership was worth it and I’ve been a member for 5 months now and very happy I made the switch from a nearby gym. Its refreshing coming in and being around great customer service. Highly recommend!

  • Ali Rafiq

I was a member here for two years. Had to cancel because I was moving to a location without a Mountainside Fitness nearby. Never had any issues. Great service, equipment, and machines were always well maintained. Zenas Morton provided me with great service anytime I had any issues or concerns. Thank you Mountainside Fitness. If I ever move nearby in the future, I would quickly sign up again.

  • Jessica Groch

Friendliest gym that feels like being a part of a fitness “club”! I love being able to switch up my workouts with classes, free weights, machines, and CrossFit areas! Everything I need is here, along with great, knowledgeable staff who help in anyway possible! I recommend to anyone looking for a place to join to get healthy! Plus, the shakes are delicious!

  • Rylei North

We love our MS fitness team! The staff is extremely friendly! My fiancé and I are there 4-5 times a week so it is definitely our second home. We are welcomed by Rod/Rob at the front desk followed by Mason, who feels like family to us. He always goes out of his way to say hello and help any way he can They keep the gym super clean and we appreciate all they do!

  • Christina Stephens

I love this gym!!!!! I’ve been to several and this is by far my favorite gym. Every one of their locations that I have been to have always had a great atmosphere, as well as friendly staff, and everything you could possibly need! Including kids club that you can watch on a screen while you work out, tanning, massage, steam rooms, tons of equipment, and more!!

  • Jordan Hoppel

Very nice staff. Decent Locker Room. Below Average equipment selection. Generally pretty clean. However the amount of obnoxious high school/young adults is out of control. They are constantly in the way, and doing everything but exercising, and is why I had to leave. Miss the era of folks that went to the gym to work out instead to be on their phone. Sad!

  • Debbie Birch

I go to Desert Ridge location for Personal Training with Adam. Six months ago I was recovering from my 6th back surgery. Adam has worked diligently and helped me regain my strength balance and confidence. He built a plan for me and I am grateful for his expertise. I recommend Adam to anyone who wants a trainer who really cares about you. Thanks Adam!!!

  • Heather Warner

I really like mountainside, been a member for over a year, even at peak times I’m always able to find a machine, my husband and I took personal training with Jenna for about 6 months and she is great! Anytime something is broken it takes about 4 days to get fixed, overall I like it there, also nice mix of really fit people and people just beginning.

  • R Ford

Have been going there for years and have enjoyed the experience. Just say lately it is going down a bit ie. broken equipment and sani wipe containers are usually empty.. Also, with school out for the summer the teens sit for long periods of time texting on their phones. No control, no supervision. after all these years amy have to find a new gym

  • Aimee Strobl

My family and I love Mountain Side fitness! We live in Desert Ridge and the location is perfect! My children love the child care. I love that there is so much for them to do! I have gotten my husband to join me for workouts on the weekends a few times. I love the yoga classes that i have taken. There is a good selection and the times work well!

  • Kristin Paxton

This is a beautiful gym. Lots of equipment options and class schedules. It reminds me of Lifetime Fitness but more affordable. The staff is great. Very accomidating with attentive service. I would highly reccomend this location - conveniently located right off of the highway. I would also reccomend their trainers. Great gym in the valley.

  • Ricky L. Potts, Jr., CCAM

I left a review over 2 years ago... Today Mountainside Fitness responded. Tells me a couple of things... Guess they are under new management. Unfortunately Google Maps doesn't allow me to respond to their response, so I updated my review here and will if they respond again. Hope the new management turns this place around, though.

  • Adrian Work

I have been a mountainside member for several years and continue to love this gym. I visit this location the most but the others are just as nice. The staff are friendly, the gym floor and cardio machines are always clean and available even during peak hours. The locker room/facilities are always clean. This is a superior gym!

  • Peter Baker

I've been a member since the Desert Ridge location opened. I have always liked this gym but my workouts have been getting a bit boring. Now that I am boxing with trainer Demy, I feel that I am getting better workouts than I have in years and having fun doing it. If you are not including boxing in your program, you should be.

  • Herbert Meltcher

Very clean well maintained gym. Great mix of people, young to seniors ( my category) but everyone friendly and respectful. Great staff always willing to help. Trainer Adam is one of the best. He knows how to keep challenging you without you feeling intimidated. On days I don’t train with him I feel confident going on my own

  • Rob Tindell

The staff is friendly and the equipment is very nice however the locker rooms are kind of gross. The steam rooms look like they aren’t ever cleaned and smell disgusting, the sauna feels dirty, and the showers don’t seem to be cleaned up often. The staff are the main reason I gave it 3 stars. Other locations are much better

  • Karen Garcia

This is a great gym with lots of different equipment. The locker room is nice and clean as well. The staff is friendly. I've been training with Adam for a few months and he's fantastic. I always look forward to my training sessions with him. He's very knowledgeable and always has new workouts to keep things interesting.

  • E B

This is my favorite gym that I've been a part of, this club in particular is kept very clean and the staff is very friendly. This club was also recently remodeled and there are some great new machines and the club feels and looks brand new! I highly recommend checking this gym out, it is the best one in the area by far!

  • Barrett Elletson

Mountainside Fitness always does a good job on customer service and overall cleanliness. This location is exceptional at both! Equipment is reliable and the facilities are everything you would need in a gym. Customer service goes above and beyond, specifically from the employee Kyle Kelleher. Highly recommend this gym!

  • Krimzon Wolf

Best gym. I've been with MS for 5 years, this is my 4th mountainside fitness location I've lived next to. I've been at this location since they opened it. Everything you need, great atmosphere, friendly staff, great people at this gym. You pay a little more here than other places but you get what you pay for. Join now.

  • Robert Dostalek

My first experience with an organized fitness center. As a senior citizen in my 70s I was apprehensive, but everyone there has been patient and judgment free. Adam, my personal trainer has given me the tools I need to continue my journey towards a healthy lifestyle. He's been great and an important asset to the center

  • Vicky B

This location has all the same amenities that the others do, but it has seen better days. The bathroom showers looked dingy and were dirty and dusty. The physical location is also hard to get to, making it less convenient then you might think. Keep up the good work, Mountainside, but up your game with this location.

  • Xao Santa Ana

Having a Degree in Fitness and Wellness, it is safe to say I have been to many gyms. Mountainside Fitness has been one of my favorites by far. The employees are all very friendly as well as the members. They also have some of the best equipment at all of their locations. I will continue to go to Mountainside!

  • Megan Juracek

Great instructors, equipment, and facility. Everybody is always friendly. Classes are great! My only complaint is that this location is never not busy! It's great that people want to workout, and there aren't a ton of options up north, but it always feels crowded. Even still I wouldn't go anywhere else

  • Lisa Sorrentino

Parker was great showed me around the gym and explained everything the gym had to offer, which was alot , compared to where I went before. Very clean. And professional, well put together gym. I cant wait to start working out. Also, put to rest my covid concerns which I still had . Thanks again...

  • Eric Freitag

I joined the club after a two month trail membership based on the excellent customer service by Alexis and Rodd. I get to the club first thing in the morning and they are always there on time and friendly and very helpful. Being the first ones I see at the gym, they set the tone for my workout.

  • Scotty Reed

I highly value my membership at Mountainside Desert Ridge. The staff is attentive from the moment you enter the building. The place offers a welcoming and safe atmosphere with a ton of workout options. I would recommend the personal training program to boost your efforts as I did with Adam C.

  • Tony Mandarich

Great facility, and I have been to just about all the different training facilities which would be their main competition. If I had one suggestion, it would be the 9pm closing on Fri/Sat/Sun. Its too early. If they could just leave it at 11pm like the rest of the week, it would be perfect!

  • Koi B

The Desert Ridge location is one of the busiest Mountainside Fitness gyms I've been to. I find myself waiting a lot for equipment to the point where I changed my plan to accommodate. The staff is professional and friendly, especially Mason, who got me started on my fitness journey there.

  • Ayden Novey

Great machines, multiple sections of free weight, and awesome free weight cables! I come here everyday and the staff is so friendly and great! Dakota and James are really good examples of this! Also the café is super clean and I enjoy going after I workout.

  • Caitlin Moritz

This place is generally clean and staff is kind. The disappointing part of this location is that majority of their cardio machines do not work - whether that is the audio, the tvs on the machines or the machines themselves don't work all together.

  • Jessica Harrell

Just relocated to Desert Ridge and really really disappointed at how horrible this location is. Half of the cardio equipment is on its last leg barely working. Is it too much to maintain equipment. Then the gym is over ran with teens/children.

  • Richard Schloss

Great gym, great workout. PPZ is extremely fun, and it is great when more people are aware of the reserved sessions so that everyone, participants and non-participants, can enjoy the area without issue. Some people are nicer than others there.

  • Jonathan McCarthy

I came to this location to strictly play basketball as a guest with a friend of mine who was a member. First two times they let us in nicely no problem and I enjoyed hooping indoors. However, the third time I was told I was not allowed in

  • Scott Meyer

This gym has everything I need: plenty of areas for. bodyweight exercises such as pull-ups, tons of free weights and a huge cardio area. The gym is always clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful…plus the smoothies are excellent!

  • Terri Abalos

Love this gym! Everyone is friendly and helpful. They have great equipment that is clean and in good shape. I have been working out with Alicia and she is a great trainer. She knows when to push me and when to hold back. I have made

  • Kaelyn M.

The people here are super great. Katie at the front is especially wonderful. The locker rooms are some of the cleanest I’ve seen and there’s plenty of cardio equipment. I don’t get to go here often but it’s always pleasant when I do.

  • Dana W

Mountainside Desert Ridge is a great gym and I recently did a 3 month trainer program with Adam who was great, encouraging and helpful with motivating me to try my best. I enjoyed working with him and would recommend him to anyone!

  • Marjeanne Fields- Bowers

Mountainsides are my favorite gyms. Always clean. Staff is friendly. Classes are great. Love their yoga program. Also the owner fights for the small business community in Phoenix. Great company and a true asset to the community.

  • Jeremiah Bach

I’ve been coming to mountainside for years, each time I come in, Dilan greets me with kindness and professionalism. You guys have such great service and great people working here, thank you guys for a constant-great experience!

  • Lauren S

Place needs to be deep cleaned, other than that the instructor are helpful and friendly, the front desk staff is very helpful. I gave five stars because people are messy but there is someone always cleaning.

  • J Yoke

100% The best gym I have ever been a part of. Great staff, friendly members. Gorgeous facility. Being a member here makes you feel like a part of the Mountainside Family! Would rate more stars if I could.

  • Tess

Sarah was super kind and helpful getting us set up with new memberships! The facility was clean and there were plenty of machines available, even though it seemed like a busy time (8am-9am on a Monday).

  • Nick Josef Niemann

Mountainside Fitness is the best gym in all of Arizona. The equipment is always clean and it’s a great environment for getting a good workout in. The managers/employees are also very kind as well.

  • AC

This gym and location is great! The staff is always extremely friendly and management makes sure to keep the gym in good shape and values the members opinions. Highly recommend this facility!

  • Alex Rocha

I recently switched to this location when I moved and I have had the best experience! The staff is super friendly Kyle K in particular and really made my transition to the new location great!

  • Mark Anthony Bohanan

This is one of my favorite locations, the staff is very friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a new gym to go to or a new mountainside location to work out at.

  • nicole G

this location specifically is super nice especially after some of the remodeling they did. I come here often because the staff is helpful and inviting! Plus they have awesome group classes.

  • Hutimto Hutimto

I’ve been driving further past other gyms to train here. It’s beautiful, very well taken care of, always clean and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. Great work MSF Desert Ridge.

  • Local Ingenuity

Very clean and the staff here are extremely helpful & friendly. Love the smoothie bar as well. Wish they had my favorite seated crunch machine. Equip is good but could use a few updates.
