Absolutely awful car park. Do not park here!!! I pre-booked a space here online for £11.80 for 2.5 hours to see a show at the Alex. When I arrived at the car park, the machine would not recognise the provided QR Code no matter how many times I tried. I pressed the button in case that was also needed and a paper ticket was dispensed, which I assumed was linked to the QR code. When I returned to the car park, the QR code still would not scan and, on using the paper ticket previously dispensed, the payment machine said that I had to pay £10.80. I had to pay this as there was a long queue forming behind me and I had to get a relative home as they were feeling tired. I eventually got to the ticket barrier to exit, after an awful queue down the dangerously narrow car park ramps, but the barrier would not raise when I tried both the QR Code and paper ticket multiple times. I pressed the help button and eventually customer services were able to let me out using the QR Code reference, all the while whilst a large queue formed behind me beeping away. As for the car park itself, it is awful. The single ramp is too narrow for both up and down, particularly for large cars. This meant that there were huge queues as people struggled to enter and exit the car park and at every turn for the ramp as the turning circle was too tight for two cars. It took us over 40 minutes to leave the car park and that was only from Floor 2. The spaces themselves are very narrow, especially if you have a larger vehicle. The barriers and payment machines are clearly not fit for purpose. All in all, it has cost me £22 for 2.5 hours parking. Edit: it's been over a month and no response to my complaint by NCP
Not fit for purpose - even less use if disabled! Arrive at this car park during a quiet period and perhaps you would just think that the spaces are a bit small for modern vehicles and the visibility when going up/down ramps is not great. Arrive for an event event nearby when other customers are trying to leave the car park at the end of a day of shopping and you will experience CARNAGE! There is not enough room for cars to enter and leave each level at the same time. Once a few cars are trying to get in and out at the same time you will spend 20-30 minutes constantly reversing into tiny spaces to try and make room to clear the bottlenecks. When you do eventually make it to a level with spaces available you will discover that the lifts don't work so if you are using a wheelchair you will have to take your life in your hands and travel down the same ramps that cars are still fighting to get up/down in order to leave the car park. If you have any other option when parking in the area, use it!
PLEASE DO NOT PARK HERE NOT SECURE TYRES WERE SLASHED. NO CCTV EXCEPT EXITS. So this is the place where i parked my car is broad day light level 3. I left it there for about 2 hours. when i came back i started my car thinking nothing was wrong. When i was going down i could hear a strong sound from my car i exited the car park and my car wouldn't go further. After inspecting the car i saw that 2 of my tyres were slashed this shocked me and was confirmed when it was taken to a garage. Closest garage was quick fit so spent over 200 pounds getting them fixed. I phoned ncp which took around 40 minutes to get through to which i told them can u check cctv they said we'll see and did not get back. Bad customer service. Reported this to the POLICE surprisingly no CCTV on any level or witnesses so they cancelled their investigation . The police said its not worth parking here for the money as there are no CCTV except when entering and exiting.
Conveniently located next to the theatre. Bit pricey in my view - but then it is an inner city car park. Spaces are very tight to fit as many cars in as they can. I donate blood in Birmingham and they offer 2 hours free for using this car park. I’ve always eventually found a space. However, one time after leaving the theatre, we paid at the pay machine as we got back to the car park, went straight up to our car, but there was obviously a lot of people leaving and it took us like 30 minutes to get to the exit. The hold up was due to the fact that as cars got to the barrier, the system said they owed more money as they’d taken too long to leave! There was a guy there letting people out, but he seemed to be saying to everyone that they owed money, which clearly no-one (including us) were prepared to pay more when the problem was due to the queue.
This parking has no proper lift access i.e. ramps. So if in wheelchair or with prams it will be difficult as there is a big kerb. Secondly, lifts do not work, so wheelchair people cannot get out. People with kids in prams, can think of going to lowest level to get out, but unfortunately, level 1 is the lowest and to get out you still need to use staircase. It is also dangerous as you will walk from higher levels to lower levels and cars keep coming in. Thirdly, there is no one to help on call. I had horrible experience today with my 3 month old. Also saw an elderly on wheelchair with way to get out. He was basically stuck inside and there was no way for him to get out. He ended up paying for 1 hour and then got out to use different parking place.
Horrendously expensive for the quality of car park. All the spaces are very narrow, barely accommodating for the width of any car from the last 20 years. All cars move up and down the car park using the same ramps and paths. It is not wide enough to allow for this and during busy times you often have to reverse to maneuver around people. Additionally while walking down the stairs my partners foot got caught on some loose lining that has clearly been neglected for a very long time and almost fell down the stairs. (See photos) Arguably what makes this experience worse is that we weren't even surprised. NCP car parks all over the UK are consistently terrible and used out of desperation most of the time. But this was even worse
Old car park right in the centre of Birmingham almost next to New Street Station. If you can get a space it offers ultimate convenience for the city being not far from any of the major areas of the city with regards to shopping or nightlife. If you park during the day it's pretty expensive though, but time is an evening deal for theatre and nightlife and late shoppers. It's a very tight car park with regards to space and the entrance is in a dark corner with poor lighting so not one for feeling safe. If you donate blood then you are validated for two hours and some other local businesses offer the same so ask
It may be in a great location but I would avoid at all costs and walk a little bit. Spaces are tight, it’s overpriced but to top it off it took us 50 minutes to get out. Once a slight queue builds up the ticket that you’ve already paid for is likely to expire, meaning a call to a non-UK call centre whilst at the barrier to resolve the issue and raise the barrier remotely. This creates further delays meaning that everyone’s ticket then expires, which means each car then has to make the same call. They then have the audacity to charge you more to raise the barrier because of the expired tickets. Just awful!!
Was recommended to use this car park whilst staying at Radisson blu next door.Very seedy back street approach with dodgy looking characters lurking nearby, but thought it would be ok as the stairwell was locked...No such luck. Car was smashed into, all our belongings were strewn around outside with items stolen. There was an incident card from the police on the dashboard with the date on it and nothing else, they had left all our stuff lying about outside the car. No car park attendants anywhere. Found a young man standing by his car nearby, also broken into, apparently there were several others too.
£18 for just over four hours parking on a Saturday afternoon. Other car parks offer weekend discounts but clearly not this one! Avoid like the plague for weekend parking unless you are desperate and have very deep pockets. Although probably of 1950's or 60's heritage, it's in pretty good nick to be fair to NCP but I wouldn't recommend using this car park if you have any car bigger than a Smart Car! Clearly designed for cars from another era. Also a strange security feature where you have to practically drive your car into a roller shutter on the front entrance before it then goes up.
Terrible experience. Barrier broken. Would not issue a ticket. Could not get hold of anyone on exit. App doesn’t work unless you already have it for entry and explanation about not there until exit. Loads of people had same issue. Took ages to speak to someone. Cannot just get a lost ticket from the machine. Considering national business certainly not up with the technology! Very tight turns and small spaces. Unpleasant and would not feel safe as a woman alone. Would give zero stars if we could. Problems meant took forever to get out. Find somewhere else to park.
Arriving today to be confronted with 2 bollards and a sign stating carpark closed and no one in attendance to assist with any explanation as to the reason for the closure. I hold an annual parking pass to use as I work in the city centre and park here daily. Upon contacting the controller via the telecom system I was not helped any further as they where not aware of a reason for its closure. After waiting for 30 mins for a local attendant to arrive I gave up and had to pay for a full days parking at the local Red Cage carpark. Poor service without explanation.
Disgusting for ♿, parked in disabled bay and went to the lift to get to street only to find the lift out if service, it was bad enough my wheelchair would not fit through the door to the stairs/lift but a out of service lift is bad, then to get out we had to go down the ramps to ground floor entrance and wait for a car going out to follow it, it was bad enough for us be also in a dilemma about the lift was a family with a baby buggy who also had to walk down the ramps to exit, if your going to charge the prices you do at least have your equipment maintained.
Awful car park, took over 30 minutes to get out, when I did the machine swallowed my ticket, then we were told we hadn’t paid (we had) and that we owed £40 something pound, we hadn’t been there 4 hours! Another car was having the same problem and had pulled over. The call centre were no help, a man working there did help and let us out. Will never use again! Cars are cramped together. The only good thing is the barrier and security but for all the problems getting out I wouldn’t use again. ,
Parked here many times in the past as ideal for the Alexandra theatre, Hippodrome and the approved car park for the Radisson. Spaces though are tiny and had one occasion when a car had parked so close to me I had to climb through the passenger door. It can also be quite hard to manoeuvre up/down the ramps especially when other cars are coming up/down too. Now started parking in the Arcadian Car Park or Q-Park at the Mailbox. Both have larger bays, easier to manoeuvre and better lit.
This is THE worst car park I have ever had to experience, its like they built half a corner park and then realised there was bo space to build the rest. Up and down ramps are shared and the lanes so tight its a nightmare getting in and out if there is other traffic, the parking spaces are tiny so if you park between two cars you can bet someone is going to struggle to get in or out a car. When we left the gate was broken, it was carnage and took an hour to got out!!!! Never again.
A little gem, particularly if you attend Birmingham Blood donor centre. This parking becomes free with every donation for up to a maximum of 2hrs. Which is not bad if you need a quick whizz round city centre and need a very safe and secure car park that's close to the action. Doors into the car park are secured by your ticket so the chance of a smelly stairwell and /or elevator ride is highly reduced. Parking lanes are quite tight though, so be strategic if you have a bigger car.
AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! Park absolutely anywhere else but here! We stayed parked here for 2 nights, coming to going home, and our car and 10 others had been broken into causing alot of damage to windows and windscreens, police didn't seem bothered as around 20 cars had been done in total and there was no staff around even though it states its patrolled, Says cctv in operation but the only cctv we saw was at the entrance and says secure but the front is accessible to basicy anyone.
This carpark is great for the Alexandra theatre. They've cleaned it up a lot, with better lighting and a person who mops the stairwells. It is very pricey if your here for along stay. £2.95 an hour. A trip to theatre will cost nearly £12 if you just go and watch the show and return to your car. I only use this car park for convenience. The parking bays are narrow, with plenty of post. If your going to the theatre, make sure to arrive early. This place fills up pretty quick.
As I arrived at 8.45am during rush hour there was a large queue of traffic waiting to gain access. It turns out the ticket machines had brojen . The staff were friendly and helpful while trying to resolve the problem. After 25 minutes I managed to get in and park. The car park was clean, space sizes were better than expected and prices were relatively cheap for a city centre car park. The experience was good I just wish they could have resolved the problems faster.
Very overpriced for overnight, conflicting information on discount when staying in adjoining hotel and eventually gave up, strong smell of urine, tried to speak to adviser at pay station but it sounded like they had their head in a dustbin. Lift broken on arrival so had to carry heavy work bag down 3 flights of stairs and upon my colleague arriving he had to walk past a druggy in the stairwell of a supposedly secure car park.
Very handy for the Alexandra theatre the parking spaces are a little narrow. The ramps between floors can be tight as they are used for both the up and down. The parking rates are reasonable for a city centre. To return to your vehicle, the pay machines are outside and the door to re enter is "locked" but your car park ticket is used to open it. To leave the car park in your car there is the usual barrier and a shutter door.
Perfect location for central Birmingham. Car Park was a little hidden but Google maps got me to the front gate. It was a bit confusing trying to work out how to use the app with the ticket machines. I failed and got a paper ticket. Plenty of parking on multiple floors. Spaces are a little tight. The customer entrance is hidden and down the rear corner of the building, which might be a little intimidating to some customers.
Very old and subsequently it has very tight parking spaces. I had pre-booked but their entry and exit barriers refused to read the barcode resulting in delays with queues behind while they tried to rectify it from a call centre remotely! At one point I was told the barrier was up and I should drive through when I was looking right at it, blocking my exit! Luckily a chap onsite got it sorted, but a poor show all-round.
Parked here on Monday, however getting into and out of the car park with a mobility scooter was very difficult. I had to bump it off steps on the way out and used the vehicle ramps on the way back in as I couldn't get it back up the step to get back to the lift on the way back to the car. The pavements near this car park are also very narrow and I almost fell off my scooter trying to get round one of the corners.
Car broken into absolutely gutted but more so when the police were already there because multiple other cars broken into. £30 over night stay and £100s of loss and damages. All the barriers and security of getting in with tickets clearly are a bunch of rubbish. Even when we came back homeless people all asleep in the stairs. Park elsewhere to avoid your windows being smashed in and entire car contents taken.
Scammers. Charged me 5 times for one visit and refused to refund me without providing BANK STATEMENTS?! This is after saying my refund was processed and would be with me in 2 weeks, that was January. Also changed the early bird time to 30 mins earlier without warming anyone so people got charged £28 a bday instead of the usual £5.95. Totally unprofessional and untrustworthy, park elsewhere
Really bad experience. Entrance had a "No Entry" sign which caused a lot of confusion. Signage and approach to entry is pathetic. But a lovely warden in the car park took the time to explain that the no-entry sign does not stop people from driving in. Instead book in NCP Grand Central which is a stone's throw distance away. I would not want to give even 1 star, but it will not let me post.
Absolute scam. This car park isn’t “New Street” car park. It is fully signed as “Grand Central” car park although payment machines show “New Street”. We pre-booked a space at “Grand Central” and parked here after seeing the signs for Grand Central. Stayed for 9 hours and was charged £30 on exit. Turns out “Grand Central” is 100m down the road despite all NCP signs pointing to this one.
Awful- Avoid at alll costs!! Come back to car window smashed in with a brick No support given my NCP after ringing them multiple times spoke to multiple different people and it seemed they all had there own individual procedures Overpriced £30 paid on the app then tried to charge £31.60 as the car was getting recovered because paying on the app apparently didn’t matter
The worst car park around the new street station. The parking space is so small that every time after parking the car, I can clearly see visible scratches on my car due to the other cars not able to open their doors. Talking about cost to park, its the most expensive one, better find some other parking, if you can keeping this one as your least priority.
Great parking for my commute. I can see there's been issues with some criminal damage but believe the car park has been a lot more secured since. There can be some homeless persons that may be sleeping in the stairwell or the corners of the parking bays..not sure how they're getting in but I guess that's for security to sort out
This car park is extremely expensive we were charged an outrageous amount. It is extremely tight corners to negotiate with cars going up and down at the same time with very little room to manoeuvre. It took us 1 hour to get out of the car park on a Saturday afternoon it was chaos. I suggest finding an alternative car park.
Very expensive, but it's good that they have now put shutters in the car park entrance to stop the drug users camping out in the building. I'm sure they will figure out to go around to the side and use the open door Shameful way to fleece you for just parking, the only good thing is it's location. Avoid if you can.
I've also spend more than 1 hour yesterday trying to leave the car parking due to a gate problem. No staff was there to support. I was asked to pay £3 on the top of the £6 already paid due to the massive queue. The CCTV was not working. If was a cause of a fire dozens of persons will be death including myself. Horrible
We retuned to our car that had been parked overnight to discover it had been broken into. The security knew about it as they had had 2 broken into that night. They but hadn't put anything on our car to tell us what to do. No CCTV. Still waiting for their security man and police who we reported it to, to ring us back.
Almost trapped in the lift today at this car park, faulty lift which is the only one available. Be aware if needing disabled access. Smells strongly of urine in stairwells and tiny spaces which are impossible to open door, even with small car. Overpriced, use the Grand Central CP at train station, cheaper and safer.
Really bad old-fashioned car park. Cars go up and down the same way, and it is too narrow to do this. It's really tight and awkward to park. Couldn't get a receipt at the car park and had to call the call centre. Pedestrian entrance is difficult to use. Park in the proper car park under the station.
Ridiculously expensive. Dirty. Staircase closed so had to walk down and up vehicle ramp for access (no pedestrian walkway). Spent an extra 20 mins trying to figure out how to pay. App contually crashed, no pay stations. Pathetic that for the money charged they can't maintain to even a basic level.
This is Not the Grand Central car park. Seems a bit of a scam to make you think your parking in the correct place. This is New St parking. If your parking for the holiday inn, this is the wrong car park. Very Tight parking slots and difficult to drive round. I'd Avoid this unless your desperate.
This car park is located very close to the Birmingham New Street railway station with an adequate number of covered parking spaces. You can pay in advance online or pay on the same day. The parking spaces are a bit cramped and it can get busy if you don't get there early in the morning.
Grimy, cramped, small spaces. It feels tucked away and has a lot of mess around it on the streets. It feels unsafe and you feel unclean when visiting. When your car park has to have security to get in and out it should be more of a worry than not. I wouldn't go here again
Horrific car park to be at! Thankfully my car wasn't broken into today! However charging people £30 for 24hrs is more daylight robbery than these two pictures. The prices NCP are charging need to be used not for profit, but for more active security within the car park.
Don't bother! Paid £50 for the privilege of having a huge dent put into the rear wheel arch of our car and NCP don't even have the decency to respond to my email. We only have a small car and were parked well within our tiny bay! Shame on you, money grabbing NCP!!!!
Strange car park hidden down a back street. It's very tight inside and traffic going in and traffic going out use the same route and it's hard to pass on the lower levels. Entering is tricky as you have to get very close to the barrier to make it rise.
horrible place to park - about 40 minutes to try and get in as there isn’t enough room for cars to leave and enter so it’s just gridlocked! spaces are extremely tight and i have a small car. prices on the higher end too - qpark is a much better option
Car park well located but signs very confusing - Grand Central, New Street, City Centre Website plus reality don’t match. Lift is a nightmare - wanted 5th floor and lift twice went to 3rd and came down again - many folks got off and walked up.
We used this car park on a visit to stay in Birmingham for the weekend. It was clean and safe and located perfectly to our Hotel. We had an issue with our ticket and the gentleman that worked there was so very helpful and helped us resolve quickly.
Conveniently located for town and City Centre etc. Very cramped place so wouldn't recommend it unless you absolutely have to. It's a bit hard to find as it is tucked away behind some buildings and the entrance is in a little alleyway.
Expensive, tiny parking spaces, at the moment getting out is horrendous because of road works, took over an hour to get out, then found the road we were on was being turned around, no direction. Will not go again until it is sorted.
Road signage isn't great inside, and the stairs and path round to the entrance would feel a bit dodgy for a vulnerable person, but the spaces are a decent enough size and I don't think it's any more expensive than the others nearby.
With central seat reservations at a packed theatre, 1 hour journey down through the A38, arrival into a closed entrance at this car park was a magnificent way to make yourself late while having to find a place to park elsewhere.
Very expensive parking for this price, I've paid 17 pounds for about 5 hours. If cars are parked near each other, it is not possible to open doors and get in without effort, two cars can't drive between levels at the same time.
this car park is so tiny its a joke! I had to get out of my car on my wife's side because of the size of the spots if I wasn't being directed to park there I damn well would'nt advise it if your car is bigger than a micra!
Very over priced cost £18 for 6 hours. Very tight car park we had to go all the way to top to try and exit due to continuous cars coming in and very small space to fit both vehicles past. Nothing special just a car park.
Horrible horrible place small spaces very dark and dingy damaged my own car on post sticking out of ground not painted like the others unhelpful and ignorant management who couldn't give a fig will never park here again
Absolutely discussing place smells urine and very tight parking even for my Mini !! Prices almost 3£ p/h Outside access road also tight and cars parked everywhere. Strongly Not recommend …
Nasty carpark. Spaces are too tight. Homeless people sleeping in there. Car on floor 1 was broken in to - windows are smashed. No security, no cameras and feels unsafe. I will never park there again.
Had to give one star as only way to give a review - don't use this car park parked in the morning and was broken into during the day - reported to police but discovered no cctv or obvious security
A little tightly packed in terms of manoeuvrability, but given its proximity to New Street Station and the Bullring, extremely convenient. Sadly it also has prices to match, at about £2.50/hour.
Pay machines don’t work properly only allowing you an hour stay or you have to use their terrible app. Got a parking fine because I couldn’t physically pay for more time. Dreadful and a scam
Very narrow parking spaces. Also super expensive. £13 for 4 hours to attend a gig at the O2 academy. Also lift wasn't working which was awkward for one of our party who has mobility issues.
Bad experience. All the disability spots Not accessibles no stairs to get to the lift... Very very narrow and Difficult to manoeuvre in. And expensive. Very bad smell in the lift....
Absolute hole and a rip off in price. Paid less to park in London, Cardiff and Manchester. Stank of urine and spaces are so tight. Pure greed and in a scummy location. Never again!!!
Really out the way, difficult to get to and the price... extortionate! and I can't really see why. Needed somewhere to park for donating blood, but parking cost me an arm and a leg!
All fine, tight spaces if in a large vehicle but for a Mini Countryman it’s fine. 30 a day or 20 if staying at the holiday inn next door. Secure entrance and exit with you ticket.
Going to the theatre, parked here, couldn't get a lower level so parked at 3a level mom was in electric scooter she can't walk far. No ramps to get to stair well and lift area.
Most awful car park ever stupidly small barely any spaces on each level. Spaces struggle to fit a small car in. That bad I damaged my own car. Very expensive. Do not park here.
It is what it is. Old multi storey, small spaces. Old, slow lift. Slightly expensive even given the location and the stairs usually smell of dope or urine, sometimes both.
RIP OFF!!! Park somewhere else and walk youll have some money left in your pocket! 15pound for 4 bloody hours i will do my researche next time. F@#k you NCP …
Overpriced There was a queue to get out so I paid the price of my car and it took so long to get out I was charged another £6 by the time I got to the gate Disappointing
Like most NCP city centre car parks, it is a complete rip-off. Good job that I had discount from Electric Cinema hich reduced price from £10 to £4 for a couple of hours
Awful car park but very convenient for New Street station. That’s when it’s open of course, arrived at the 24 hour car park at 6.30am this morning to find it’s closed!
Car park is over many floors and has a good amount of spaces. It is however very tight to drive around, and entrance and exit use the same ramps causing some problems.
Bloody tight fit! Also expect queues when theatre parking happens. And on that note - if visiting the theatre, pay at box office instead of car park for a discount
Ridiculously overpriced car park for goodness sake NCP need to reduce their prices, NCP is a big company and it's about time they offer something back to people
Watch out when coming down the ramps when leaving, same way down as up so can be a bit tight on the corners. Plenty of spaces and Reservations available also.
Pre-booked but QR scanning not working at the car park, took a while to get in and later to exit - car park very conveniently located but spaces not very wide
It's central and convenient but didn't feel safe as a lone woman at night - the pedestrian entrance is down a quiet back street and I felt very vulnerable.
Awful place ..never get ypur car washed here .. they don't tell you ..you have to pay for the car park while you are having the car washed and I got a fine
Paid parking close to Birminham new street station. Not the cleanest parking building and the spaces are quite small, but its close to the city centre.
This is a great little car park for trips to the theatre. Very handy and close to the theatre venues. However, on the downside, it is very expensive.
Easy to find details but parking spaces SO NARROW.. Took me ages to park in a space and my daughter had to climb into the rear to get out of the car!
Expensive but secure. It's a trade-off in Birmingham city centre Use it if you need to safely store your car overnight but be warned it's not cheap
Rip off: cross the road next car park 6hours for £9.20 and NCP toke me for 6hours £17.70. Too expensive for same area. What a joke. …
Rip off for just a few hours parking. Small entrance which looks like its caught many cars out, scraping their paintwork. Lift out of order too.
NCP car parks are usually in convenient places but they are very expensive and close to being a rip off. I would only use them as a last resort.
Car was in here during the day time and was broken into, along with another 4 cars at the same time... your cars probably safer on the street.
Very convenient Car Park for Holiday Inn and Radisson Blu hotels five minute walk from Bullring and major shopping areas including Chinatown
Poor navigation from floor to floor with 2 way traffic on the same section of the car park. Tight places and awful aromas in the stairwell.
Reasonably priced when used with Ncp card. Very central, 30 secs walk from Grand Central station. Ideal for city stops or train trips.
Very tight bays & machine was out of use, had to download app which caused family to miss train. Only one payment machine available
My preferred car park in Birmingham. It's easy to get to from the A38 and usually has quite a few spaces considering it's location.
I stuck my car in it but I think if would have cost less if I'd have just abandoned it on the street and paid the feds off instead
The spaces are tight but doable, the height is low and the entrance is down a side street that wasn't directed to by Google maps
Good Car Park Close to shopping and train stations and quiet which i like for a car park and patrolled as well which is a bonus
Very secure and in an ideal location but the roads and spaces are tight and the payment machine made an error and overcharged.
2 car parks next to each other with the same name. Your offer code will be for one of them. Good luck figuring out which one
This car park is tiny. I only have a Peugeot 307 which isn't exactly a big car but I struggled to park it in the bays.
After coming of of the Alexander theatre ticket machines not working no staff waiting forever to get out disgraceful
