I came again today with my friend for the pecking duck. We prebooked the pecking duck so it would be ready when we got there at 6.30 pm. Unfortunately we got there and waited for 40 mins and the pecking duck was not ready. We did confirm with the staff again that we had rebooked the duck and they knew about it. I told the staff that I couldn't wait anymore as I had to be at somewhere else, that's why I prebooked the duck. The manager who came to our table without an apology and said we didn't emphasize that the the pecking duck has to be ready at 6.35 when we ordered over the phone. We didn't need to emphasize that when we had dinner there previously. Isn't it their responsibility to confirm with the customer? Then she said she just sent in the order 10 mins ago when we were already there for more than half an hour. It was not our fault that the order didn't get sent in the kitchen when we already rebooked it.she kept going on this is how the order process works. Then what is the point to prebook. Then she went on how the pandemic has made them stressed and they were busy. Well I was there twice during the pandemic. It has nothing to do with the pandemic. We got very angry and we left at the end.and the food was still not ready (after 50 mins) The manager was literally arguing with me because they didn't have the duck ready on time. She didn't admit the mistake they made and tried to blame us. She only said sorry to us when I asked her if we deserve an apology. I can't believe how rude the manager could be. The way she handled the situation is not professional at all. What a joke. Learn to be a manager before serving people. It's just a basic manner and she can't even do it Our Friday night was ruined.I will never come back here again not when that rude manager is working there.

Greatest Taiwanese restaurant in Adelaide!! The food is excellent and the portion is enough for 4 of us and it cost 132$ which is reasonable for plenty of dishes. However the waiting time is a bit long for the dishes to be delivered (approximately 20-30mims)The Taiwanese beef noodle is sold out and we are looking forward to taste it next time. Definitely need to try this restaurant and will go back very soon!! 非常好吃的台灣餐廳 推推 Taiwanese cuisine itself is often associated with influences from mid to southern provinces of mainland China, most notably from the south of Fujian (Hokkien) which often leads to it being classified or grouped with 'Southern Fujianese cuisine'. However, influences from all of mainland China can easily be found after the Kuomintang retreat to the island which brought along many mainland Chinese cuisines. A notable Japanese influence also exists due to the period when Taiwan was under Japanese rule. Traditional Chinese food can be found in Taiwan, alongside Fujian and Hakka-style as well as native Taiwanese dishes, including dishes from Guangdong, Jiangxi, Chaoshan, Shanghai, Hunan, Sichuan and Beijing.

Service was ok but the food wasn't great. The Peking duck skin seemed very small in quantity and the accompanying sliced cucumber etc were served in a single bowl so people had to wait a long time to get them. Likewise the sauce was served in one wine glass so everyone had to wait their turn. The braised tofu in brown sauce didn't have much tofu in it and was more a vegetable stir fry. Plus the tofu was hard. The braised beef brisket in a clay pot was the best dish there but the portion was very small and it was very oily. All the fried dishes of salt and pepper squid, garlic spare ribs and soft shell crab looked and tasted the same which was flavorless. I needed to ask for lemon to add some sort of flavor to it and I was given 2 thin slices (not wedges!) of lemon!! The fried pumpkin was nice but deep-fried and a little too oily for me. And the Chinese spinach in oyster sauce was served as whole leaves and stem and therefore too large and chewy to eat without knives to cut them up. Probably wouldn't recommend the restaurant unless you were in the neighborhood and craved westernised Chinese food.

Lunch on a Saturday. Quite a few tables when we arrived. Only one staff member visible. He did a fabulous job of seating people, taking orders, answering the phone and serving food with a smile and pleasant interactions. Tables weren't cleared as quick but with one person that's to be expected. Food was incredible. We had Peking duck, crispy, not fatty, and then the fried rice option which was amazing. Great flavour, not oily or soggy. Stir fried veg, crispy and with lovely garlic flavour. And the best spring rolls we've had in years. Can't wait to go back!

Went here for CNY dinner and pre-ordered dishes. Also had to put a $100 non refundable deposit. The Peking duck skin was crispy and nice and fatty. The pancakes were a bit dry on edges because it had probably been sitting out for a while. 7/10 Duck fried rice was nice. Taro duck was ok but a bit oily and bland. 6/10 I ordered steamed fish with soy and ginger but I’ve never seen this as a stirfry with veggies. It was ok. Golden kimchi is nice and different, and chicken jellyfish were nice as starters. The best dish of the night was salted egg prawn! Very crispy, not too salty it was delicious. 9/10 Service wise, they are quite friendly when spoken to, but at times we were left alone trying to look for attention whilst they were clearing tables (and was not too busy). Overall, it’s an ok Chinese restaurant if you live local to the area. Not much I would go out of my way for again.

Updated review March 2021. . Dinner at @nan_yuan_restaurant: can't go wrong with good Chinese food . I think the good Peking duck and the yummy crispy pork hock made me keep the 5 star review. Other dishes were good but not really amazing this time. . Sweet and sour fried while fish: this was a super delicious dish! The fish was nicely fried, and the sauce was not overly sweet. Perfect! . Crab roe seafood tofu hotpot: the seafood was very tender, but slightly on the bland side. . E Shan crispy pork hock: omg we looooooved this dish! The pork hock was so perfectly fried. Very tender and flavourful . . Crispy salt and pepper eggplant: always one of my favourite dishes. Can't get enough of eggplant . . Peking duck: the skin was crispy, and the duck meat was tender and had nice flavours. The pancakes were pretty good too. Overall pretty decent Peking duck . . Second course: duck fried rice - fried rice always tastes better at a restaurant!

This place has changed hands and names a few times over the years, with varying degress of success. It was so bad in the past for service and waiting an age for take aways for average food, we stopped going. But that was then and this is now. This time I think they've got it right! Plenty of Chinese people dine here and that is always a good sign in my books :-) We have had the chicken and cashew nuts, beef in black bean, satay chicken, steamed rice and spring rolls. All lovely and well priced. Traditional flavours, none of this fusion stuff which we hate. Nice staff and fast service. Haven't dined in so can't comment on that. One of the best Chinese places in town :-) Would definately recommend :-)

Nan Yuan is a traditional Chinese restaurant and one of the rare places in Adelaide that serves Peking duck. They also offer Cantonese cuisine, catering to different preferences. I highly recommend their Peking duck, which comes with a variety of accompaniments. They offer a 2-way option, allowing you to enjoy the duck itself as well as a delicious duck bone soup. Another standout dish is their garlic-infused crispy pork chop, which is both crispy and packed with garlicky flavor. The restaurant provides a satisfying dining experience with a range of authentic Chinese dishes to choose from.

This place has been here for quite some time and I finally got to try it. It looks really nice and always seems to be well attended. I was surprised that a long term business that looks so inviting could have food this disappointing. It wasn't horrible or disgusting, but it is priced slightly above competitors (not much, think $22-$24 instead of $19 for a main takeaway) and definitely doesn't deserve 3 stars. Crispy plum pork is soggy, not crispy, and pork had quite high fat/gristle content under the coating. I've also never seen red/brown plums, not sure what the colour comes from in this case. Maybe it's just a strange variety of plum. The mongolian beef was ok and the salt and pepper squid is more like MSG and MSG squid.

We had high hopes for this place but was quite disappointed with the food. The spinach with century eggs were OK, though the serving size was a bit small; the stir fried pork belly dish had hardly any pork in it and was a tad overcooked and worst of all the crispy duck with pancake dish appalling - the poor duck was deep fried and cooked too long that it lost all flavour and texture. It was tough and dry and didn't taste better wrapped in a pancake and condiments. Our favourite dish was the salted egg yolk prawn - the taste of the egg yolk was prominent enough and not overpowering and the prawn (and dish itself) was a decent size. For what we paid, the meal wasn't worth it at all. Will not return.

Went to the restaurant for a family dinner. We have been before so we already knew the food was going to be great. We ordered quite a bit of food. Unfortunately there was a bit of confusion and some of the dishes were forgotten. Meaning we had to wait quite a while to get all of our dishes served. Regardless the owners came out and apologised, offered us a discount and a few drinks on the house. Not many businesses offer this kind of service after making a tiny mistake. It was so incredibly kind of them to do. I would highly recommend giving them a go. Great people and great food!

Extremely disappointing. A group of 20 of us went. Not allowed to pay individually; Some of us had cash, others had card. Had to pay a $1 extra if we paid individually. Then the food we ordered …. mine was Satay chicken; as tough as old boots ….others said the same for their beef or their lamb etc. A very disorganised staff; not knowing if they were coming or going; must have been chaotic in the kitchen, as they got our drinks mixed up and our orders. Then it was too much food and a lot of us asked for ‘doggy bags’ at a cost of $1 a container!!!!!! Not impressive at all. We won’t be going back there that’s for sure.

  • Vince N

What a night! Table Service is non existent! Took 30 minutes just for drinks, and by the time we got our food they forgot our soups, and then the soup was that hot I had to slam ice down my throat! Burnt my throat!! Then they forgot one of our main dishes. Food was nice and when it came to taking the food home we had to grab the container ourselves as table service was slow. What a shocker!!! After paying and giving us discounts

We ordered the spring rolls which seems not to be cooked properly and had no flavour at all. We waited a little bit until the noodle soup arrived and then we waited a little bit more for the Salt and Pepper Pork... and again a little bit more for the stir fried veg and then the combination seafood. The noodle soup had the most flavour and the vegetables. But other then that the pork and seafood wasn't anything to talk about

A rare gem on Goodwood Rd. Excellent, highly authentic Cantonese cooking with top quality ingredients used, eg, Roast Pork (Char Siu) using pork neck fillet was on par with your top-notch restaurants in Hong Kong. Roast duck was succulent, meaty and roasted to perfection. Menu was a clever balance of Western-Chinese favourites and traditional Cantonese family favourites. Very reasonable prices given the quality of ingredients. Restaurants of such integrity ought to be endorsed and supported ... or we'll eventually be left with inferior restaurants slopping out msg-laden stuff.

Had an awful experience after our food came out the waitress asked if we could finish and leave in 30 minutes we had ordered alot of food and couldn't really enjoy it as they kept an eye at our table. The wanted to fit other guests in, after we finished eating they rushed to our table to clean, we were still sitting down and packing our take away as we ordered too much food. The other waiter also mentioned to the other guests waiting for table that we took longer than they expected and looked at us, we weren't even there for a full hour yet. We will never come back

A lovely environment for a meal. The food was fresh and well cooked. The staff were friendly and helpful. Very busy with dine-in customers. That tells of the quality of food. Out of area for us but certainly a place we would go to again. The manager of the night made sure he welcomed us personally.

We got our food to go. One of the nicest meals we have had on out trip here. The staff were absolutely lovely. We had left it to long to eat in the day and became very hangry. The guy at the front counter was so friendly and was aware we were to hungry was ready sooner then we expected. Packed well and was still really hot when we got home. The portion sizes are pretty big. Originally thought we wouldn't eat all of it. But it was so good we didn't waste a bite. Thanks guys keep up the good work!

Today I ordered duck same as many times. But the duck is really less and less pancakes. We asked is this a whole course or half. They bring the duck bone which got lots of meat left and didnt cut off properly, normally you can bring the bone with you, but they won't allow us to bring bone with us. Because the reason is the bone may goes into the bin. Food over cooked, and this eggplant normally got a mushroom in the dish as well. Taste very different from what we always have.Never ganna come back any more.

Absolutely sensational food. Party of 6 and arrived about 5 minutes late . Prawn crackers were almost gone . Requested another bowl. Possibly about 50 cents worth and was told no . Had to PAY for another serve . Ended up spending around $400 . So bloody stingy and cheap. .Would I go back ? NO . Very disappointing. After the joke of a response by the owner I have reset my review . Stay away from penny pinching restaurant.

We have been waited for at least half hour, only the cold dish came after we have keep asking several times. All the other tables have full table of food even the ones that arrived after us. Customer service was so bad as well, and somehow most of them just avoiding eye contacts as well. We have so many kids with them and are already so hungry. We’ve also purposely requested for less salt with the food for the kids. And the noodles are so salty. What a joke! It will be my last time here, I will never come back to this bad customer service.

  • Chrissie Meerwald

Had high hopes as we have ordered from them via uber and they were great. However, we got the golden banquet and waited over an hour before it started, then only got one entree. We had to ask where the rest was. Other people came in ordered got served and had almost finished by the time we were being served mains. Had high hopes for a special birthday dinner with friends and family, left disappointed.

Had veg spring rolls, bbq pork steamed buns and honey king prawns with steamed rice delivered. Spring Rolls were fresh and crispy; Honey King Prawns were sweet and plentiful but winner was the steamed buns! And the sauces that accompanied were beautiful. Maybe a tad pricey, but on par with similar local Asian restaurants- if not better priced for the quality. As I first ordered the night before 'circuit breaker lockdown' of SA, hopefully business picks up when restaurants reopen- I am keen to try plenty of other menu items!

  • ikalost

We also had high hopes for this place but was quite disappointed with the food. The beef was so dry and overcooked, and the Thai spicy fried chicken was too sweet and dip in the sauce. Salty yolk prawn was in decent size but taste oily. Golden kimchi was full of garlic flavor. Jellyfish had too much pepper. Overall, all meal we ordered today were unbalanced and not good tasting. Maybe the Peking duck and the pork belly bun will be better? Oh by the way, the meal served like we were in a takeaway shop

  • Cheng John

You know it’s a good sign when you accidentally meet friends there to having dinner party. We ordered as much as possible of their house Taiwanese specials. Pork hock was the stand out - it melts in your mouth. They also got a separate menu written in Chinese on a white board behind their main counter. The staff approached us to read the menu and order off it as well . We got the oysters special - unfortunately the sauce of top made it a bit weird cause it hid the flavor of the oyster omelette

  • Brad Edwards

Thoroughly impressed after our first visit. BWent tonight without a reservation, turned out to be a very busy night and we had a gig to go to. The host was brilliantly accommodating in getting us in and out super fast but the quality did not dim one bit. Best hot and sour seafood soup I’ve had and the soft shell crab was incredible. Looking forward to returning soon and taking more time to pore over the huge menu!

Food is tasty. We got our food within a reasonable amount of time, but we did notice other tables (esp big group) had to wait a lot longer. The place is busy, but they don't look flustered. They still served you politely (unlike some places where they just throw the plate across the table, without any smile). We didn't feel like we were being rushed, too. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Would return again.

There's a spacious car park at least for the size of the restaurant. There's plenty of space between the tables as well and we easily maneuvered 2 wheel chairs around our table. There's just a tiny little step to get up at the front door and most wheelchair users will probably need a little help but the door is nice and wide so entry is not difficult. I'm not expert but I enjoyed my food and it averaged out to be about $25 each.

You can't go past ordering the dong po rou (braised pork belly) with bao and pickles and the poached chicken. This place has really picked up its game since it changed owners and names and is now busy almost every night as well as lunch on the weekend. Takeaway special dishes are the usual western style ones. I'd recommend the beef hor fan for takeaway. There's enough for a meal with leftovers.

  • Joy

Service was really slow here food was okay we booked a table of 11 they brought 1 dish out for us all to share for 5mins then slowly brought out 1 every few mins was NOT good, the restuarant was not busy so they didnt have an excuse for the slow service. We had to remind them on things we ordered all night and overpriced compared to other chinese restuarants

  • mjfiegert86

Nice chinese restaurant. Was fairly expensive and food was tasty and edible, but there are many better Chinese restaurants out there with better food. Very busy on weekends due to no other good Chinese restaurants in the area. Attractive street presence and appealing dining area with large front windows overlooking Goodwood Road. Definitely worth a visit.

Customer service is virtually non existant. If you call their number to place an order more often than not its not answered or goes to voicemail. If someone does answer they can barely speak English and you have to repeat everything several times. Then you will wait 30min or more for your order.... Its not worth the pain.

Edit June 2022: Used to be a fan of their food. They have changed their menu a bit and changed the way of cooking for some of my fav dishes as well as increased the prices. Unfortunately, I do not enjoy their food now. Food is yummy, tasty. Friendly attentive staff. Looking forward to dine in, in future. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Peking duck is sooooo good. The sauce and crispy skin are way too yum, and it’s the best in Adelaide. The manager recommended us 5 spice squid and seafood tofu which are amazing. Fried rice just average level. But the rest we had are soooo good. Worth to try them!!!!!! …

There were only a few tables on that day, but after ordering our dinner, we waited almost 1 hour for our food. And the dishes were not that good as I expected. And the food hygiene is problematic, three of us all have diarrhea when we back home after dinner. Won't come back again.

  • L Tan

We did not enjoy our experience here as the food was very slow to come. The first and last dish came two hours apart. The kitchen staff clearly was not coping- on a weekday, and missed out our dishes. No apology from the staff at all. Food was ok but pricey and small portion size.

Recently opened Chinese restaurant on Goodwood Road. The food was of very high standard with splendid presentations. We absolutely loved every single dish that we ordered and couldn't fault any of them. Service was warm and friendly. Highly recommend.

Just walked in for Sunday lunch, no booking no problem. Many Asians dining and getting take away, allways a good sign of authentic Asian cuisine. Waitress was prompt and polite, food delivery was also prompt and delicious. Quite impressesd.

They offer the most incredible Taiwanese Dishes which I can’t even found in Melbourne. Generous portions in the dishes and authentic taste. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Food was a s good. Menu is quite big with a variety to choose from. Service was sub par which is something they will have to work on. Rice bowl were extremely small. Over all, good food with bad service or no service. You can decide.

Very expensive for what it is. Food is okay. The wagyu beef was pretty disappointing being pretty chewy. I think if it was a lot cheaper I might consider going back. But I’ve definitely had a lot better for a lot cheaper.

Ordered 8 dishes recently for pick up Gave 45 mins notice. When we got there they hadn't started cooking and we waited a further 25mins. Very small serves very expensive prices. No longer our favourite chinese takeaway

This place has changed Names, owners 3 time's over in the last 20 year's. It's as good now as it once was under a previous name Muntin. Food is good and a great improvement on what it was previously known as Yum Yum.

One of the best Chinese restaurants in Adelaide. Definitely book in advance because the chances to get a table without a booking is slim. A wide variety of dishes and everything is worth the penny. More

Place are so busy. Lucky we did the reservation. Foods are yummy with a little bit pricey. But it’s still definitely worth to try. Good place for group and you can share a lot of delicious food.

It was crowded at dinner time. The service is very nice and the foods are tasty as well. I like how they serve the beef with a little candle under it to keep it warm.

A highly recommended restaurant by many Malaysian and Singaporean nationals, had a most pleasant peeking duck. So I too would like to add an Ang Mohs perspective to a nice restaurant.

The food too long time to be served so we ended up having to take away our food. Might be a great place for catch up but too hard to wait with young kids. Food is nice though.
