As someone who has only recently embraced being creative, being inside a building built on creativity is such a beautiful experience. The art displayed here is both moving and inspiring. There are three parts, the West and East buildings, and the Sculpture Garden. The movie auditorium is in the East building and the wheelchair accessible entrance is in the West building. What is delightful is the concourse connecting the two buildings below ground. There you will see the cascading water from the water fountain above shown as a glass wall to make a work of art in its own right. A bookstore with some seating invites you to read and play. Walking past that is the large cafe area with many options for eating and drinking. The star-lit concourse with a moving sidewalk offers a respite before having to walk more to the next art installation. Please note that no walkers or wheelchairs are allowed on these moving sidewalks but there is a space besides them to accommodate for your walking assistance. In addition, there are elevators to accommodate such assistance. I noted many staircases so be prepared for that as well. The movie was a French film, with English subtitles and the free registration for it was a breeze. The auditorium is grand in scale with plush seating. In case you want to see this film, check the gallery's website for more info and registration. I truly appreciate all this gallery has to offer and highly encourage you to do the same.

I feel like I was being singled out at this museum so my review is reflective of that. I came here on a rainy day and as soon as I stepped in security said I had to check in my umbrella. I didn’t think anything of it until after checking in, and then saw numerous people being let in with their umbrellas. Why was I sent to check in mine when others weren’t? I have no idea but I didn’t make a scene of it. I proceeded to explode the art. There’s many rooms and floors of art so definitely be prepared to walk around. As I was taking pictures in one room a security guard came over and said I needed to remove my book bag from 1 shoulder and that I wasn’t allowed to wear on both. Which seemed weird because why wouldn’t I have been told that upon entering the museum or the other 50 rooms I walked through. There’s security in every room. The guard waited until I complied then went back into their corner. Imagine my surprise when I walked a little further and noticed other people wearing book bags on both shoulders. Again, why was I told this and not others? I have no idea. By this time I was getting real annoyed. I left the room and went into the next. As I was about to snap a pic, another guard opened his mouth to say something and I just quickly left. Nice art but didn’t like being harassed by the guards. Would not recommend.

With over 150k pieces of art, over 3k of which are on display on the day you come to visit (10-5 everyday except Christmas and New Years) this gallery is a national treasure. Da Vinci, Renoir, Picasso, Van Gogh, Rembrandt and the list just goes on - it boggles the mind. The gallery offers guided and self tours and a handy app that can give you the backstory of what you are looking at. Van Gogh came after Gauguin with a straight razor!?! These are listed on the website and are listed on the tour boards near their staring location (note: East and Main have different boards and offer different tours). It would be very difficult to see everything in a day but fortunately there are multiple cafes and excellent facilities - so you don’t have to leave until the guards push you out. There are coat check facilities that cost the same as your admission price - FREE. Don’t miss this amazing place!

The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., is a remarkable place to visit, especially on a holiday like Thanksgiving when it's open without the need for reservations. Admission is free, which is a delightful bonus. The museum is split into two buildings: the West Building features classic paintings and sculptures, while the East Building is home to modern art. A highlight is the captivating indoor pathway linking these buildings, illuminated by thousands of lights. It's like walking through a tunnel of stars. The gallery houses impressive works, including two by Leonardo da Vinci and several by Vincent van Gogh. Additionally, there's a beautifully maintained garden that offers a peaceful retreat from the indoor exhibits. This blend of art and nature creates a truly enriching experience.

This is truly one of the must-see museums in all of Washington. I visited this past 4th of July holiday, and I was blown away by all the fantastic exhibits that they have on display. A person would need two visits in order to see everything. This museum, which is under construction, is very large and well maintained. Security can be very strict, which is understandable. This place has a lot of pieces from well-known artists. They also have several cafes and gift shops to check out during your visit. Overall, if you are an art lover, then I recommend checking this place out. It is absolutely spectacular and the price of admission is even better.....free.

The National Gallery of Art is certainly a must-see on any trip to DC. It took us about 3 - 4 hours or so to see both the east and west buildings. We went on a weekend and it wasn't incredibly busy -- it was comfortable enough to stop and see everything without it being crowded. The pieces of art were absolutely stunning! I specifically enjoyed the Dutch 17th Century paintings -- interesting to see the detail that went into this work, even being several hundreds of years old. It says a lot about humanity and what has been accomplished. Overall, I would absolutely recommend a visit to anyone in the DC area.

What a beautiful museum. Because I only had limited time in Washington, D.C., I was unsure if I wanted to spend it at the National Gallery of Art. Once I stepped foot inside, I realized I needed more time than what I had. You could easily spend all day there and immerse yourself in the beauty and knowledge that surrounds you. As a backdrop to the art, the museum itself is breathtaking. We visited at Christmas time and the holiday displays were tasteful and gorgeous. I highly recommend visiting, even if you are not really an “art expert”. Everyone can walk away from here feeling fulfilled and knowing that you have spent your time wisely.

My visit to the National Gallery of Art left me with mixed feelings. While I appreciated some interesting sculptures and beautiful drawings, the overall experience was just okay. The highlight was undoubtedly the encounter with a rare treasure – the Chalice from the Middle Ages, once used in the Mass. The guard, who was friendly and knowledgeable, shared a captivating story and history behind this unique artifact. Although the general experience was not stellar, the chance to learn about the Chalice made the visit worthwhile. If you're a history enthusiast, the stories behind these treasures might make your trip more memorable.

This art gallery is fantastic. The sculptures are top notch and the variety is huge. The architecture here is very nice. We witnessed a lady painting while we were there. There are interactive screens for kids too. A beautiful tunnel with neat lights on a flat conveyor belt. The food court features a unique water feature which you can see outside and inside. This gallery is highly recommended, especially if you are any sort of history lover. 5/5. ________________________________________________ Follow me for more reviews, tips and photos.

National Gallery of Art is absolutely a world class art museum. It is huge with west building exhibiting European and American masterpieces and East building exhibiting modern and contemporary artworks. In my recent visit I only visited the west building. I was mesmerized by the massive collections of the masterpieces. There are paintings and sculptures by all the famous artists. The building itself is beautiful neoclassical style with a large rotunda. You can easily spend a full day there. And the most importantly, it’s free! It’s no doubt a treasure to Washington DC and a must visit place when visiting DC.

Worth visiting DC for. Seeing Rembrandts and Van Goghs and Monets in person is just a special experience; but I enjoyed seeing everything else just as much, including some amazing marble works. There are audio overviews of some of the art available on their website if you're into self guided tours like I am. There's a lot to see here and you can easily spend a full day if not more.

We've wanted to go to this museum for a long time, but we've only just been able to go. We will go again, especially since we couldn't catch the butterfly section. other chapters human history, diversity of animals, visual effects were very good. skeletons of dinosaurs and models of animals were superb. It is necessary to come early in the morning.

A superb art museum that rivals the best around the world and its FREE! A must if you’re visiting Washington DC with friendly helpful docents. The West building is classic art, the East is modern art and they are connected but a “starry” walkway with cafes scattered about & in both buildings. You can browse the art for hours or stop in for 15 min to get a quick art fix.

I don't think it is possible to convey how much incredible art exists in this museum through a simple review. My best advice when attending: listen to the museum staff who give you a map and make suggestions on what to see. Explore your way to those suggestions and you'll find so many amazing pieces. Give yourself lots of time.

Really beautiful art gallery! Free admission. The East building primarily has contemporary art pieces while West building contains more ancient arts. The underground concourse that connects the 2 building is also pretty cool and has a large gift shop/cafeteria. The sculpture garden is also beautiful to visit (becomes and ice skating ring in the winter)

Everything from Renaissance paintings and sculptures to eclectic modern art, you can spend hours browsing NGA’s collections. They also have film screenings (you need to reserve your spot). The building itself is gorgeous, especially the central courtyards and atriums.

We enjoyed our visit to the National Gallery of Art. It is much larger inside than we thought. One of the assistants inside, Mr Robert Baker, was super cool and gave us a map with everything marked on it of interest. We had a blast.

This museum is like Louvre on steroids. Not one Monet but 50. Not 10 Picassos but 100. Great selection of American modern art. I was highly surprised by the quality of the works presented as well as by the sheer size of the place. I recommend at least 4 hours to visit. The best part - it is free!
