Nili Masjid in Hauz Khas DELHI As we all know, the number of unsung, unreported and unvisited monuments is disproportionately high in Delhi. The best part is that one seems to stumble on them when one least expects it. It is especially delightful to find them lying in the middle of the posh residential localities. The South Delhi region encompassing Hauz Khas and Saket is home to many such monuments and at the same time, they are also hubs of prime residential and commercial establishments. Nili Masjid near the Hauz Khas market is one such monument that you may never have heard of but very easy to come across considering its prime location. A Pre Mughal Treasure  Nili Masjid is one of the older structures around. It was built in the Lodi era, like a lot of other similar looking structure in South Delhi. It is believed that Kausambi who was a royal nurse, got it built in 1505-06 which was the time of Sikander Lodi. She looked after the son of Khan-i-Azam Khawas Khan, who was a powerful official of the kingdom. Probably the structure was bigger during that time but as of now only the central dome remains along with parts of the wall. But even if it is ASI protected, it is still considered a live mosque and people offer prayers regularly here. That is why piped water and places for ablution have been installed in the compound. To some extent, this has affected the antique look of the monument as coolers can be seen fixed on the walls along with fans and lights. Inside the Masjid  It's known as Nili or Blue mosque simply because the upper facade was decorated with blue tiles which was probably a common decorative technique in those times and can also be seen in other structures here such as the Madhi Masjid in Mehrauli. The “blue” part has now decayed and cannot be seen easily but if you look closely, you can still see the bluish tinge on the tiles. There are three arches under the dome as usual and the walls contain inscriptions verifying its date and history. The interiors contain a bit more ornamentation and the corner towers are built like robust bastions of a fort. Like many of the Lodhi era structures, it is built upon an octagonal base and other features are also not significantly different from the remains of that era. Locating the Mosque  Although it is now located within a populous residential locality, it is one of those that breathe easy. Unlike Old Delhi or Mehrauli, Hauz Khas Enclave is a more economically empowered area with plush apartments and broad roads. So, the compound remains clean and has not suffered from any serious encroachment as such. Locating it is also not difficult. In fact it is very near to the Hauz Khas market.  The easier way to locate it is to approach it from Aurobindo Road. You will notice a big new mosque on that highway between Hauz Khas and Green Park. At that point, on the other side of the road, you should take the lane going inside the H-Block. A few yards and the mosque will be visible to you.

NILI MOSQUE (KHARERA) - This plastered rubble built mosque is surmounted by a single dome over the central portion. The blue tiles decorating the facade above the chhajja has given its present name, i.e., blue mosque. It was built in A.H. 911 (A.D. 1505-06) during the reign of Sikandar Lodi, by Kasumbhil, nurse of Fath Khan, son of Khan-i-Azam Masnad Ali Khawas Khan, then governor of Delhi. Now Mosque need proper maintenance and repair I request to authority please save this beautiful piece of art.

In view of the age and construction of the mosque it is a wonderful place to visit and pray. Looks like an ancient monument. Entrance has a beautiful collection of flowers and there is ample space to occupy decent crowd for prayers. One amazing thing is the location of mosque is in such a market & residential area that one can't believe such a monument can exist in such a modern locality. All prayers are performed in the mosque.

Built during the Lodi era, it is a fine structure of medieval Delhi. The blue tile after which it was named has eroded a lot. It is located in between the high society of South Delhi with a clean and accessible road.

Located adjacent to Aurobindo marg, this is an age old masjid. It can be seen that the structure is in a poor condition and it must be a herculean task to keep it in good condition. 5 times prayers are offered here unlike Moth masjid where no prayers are offered.

A beautiful mosque located in green park. It is easily accessible, around 5 minutes walking from green park metro Gautam nagar exit. The mosque has a peaceful environment and beautiful architecture.

Historical mosque with small covered area but large open area. Gives a spiritual humbling feeling. Though the decay in the structure or the attempts to add modern equipments are an eyesore.

নামাজ আদায়ের আদর্শ স্থান। এটা জুম্মা মসজিদ তাই জুম্মার দিনে নামাজ পড়ার সুব্যবস্থা আছে। ওযু ও ইস্তেঞ্জা করার সুব্যবস্থা আছে। গাড়ি পার্ক করার ব্যাবস্থা ঠিক মতো নেই।

Such a peaceful experience I've had here. Every Friday they arrange Juma prayer at two different times 12:50pm and 01:15pm.

Owned by Archeological Survey of India, Maintained by none. Heritage and history attached is of great significance.

Sunni Masjid. Gives a feeling of inner peace while within this historic monument. Overcrowded during Jummah Namaaz.

Kutba time 1:25. It is mosque which is under archeological survey of India. Here water also available for wazu.

Here they conduct two different time schedule for Jummah. 1st batch is 12.30 pm 2nd batch is 01.00 pm
