After reading all the comments I can tell I am not the only one with this issue. Got tickets to an event last Friday and everything was great the crowd was kind of dull but my friends and I had a fun time regardless the DJ was great. The drinks were a little pricey compared to other clubs in the area. However the reason I or anyone I know will never return to this club is the staff. The two bouncers at the door are starving to show their authority the fact that you have to kick beautiful women out of your club because you are bored is sad. I was on my way out the door when my friend remembered she had to get her keys. I sat on the floor to fix my shoe and next thing I know two guys grab me off the ground and tell me I have to get out. Yes I was slightly tipsy but I was completely aware of my actions and everything around me so there was no reason for me to be kicked out. After I told them I would leave as soon as my friend got her keys because we rode together they start dragging me out the door very forcefully. My dad is a police officer so I understand the whole compliance thing but they were hurting me. I told them to get their hands off of me and the homeless looking white guy with the matted red beard gets and inch from my face and starts screaming at me to the best of his ability telling me I was "big" because his fat ass was too weak to pull me out of the door. After I reminded him that his dick was 2 inches he shut up and got the police officer to tell me to get out but by that time we were walking out the door anyways. I am not happy that your staff left bruises all over me from grabbing me so hard for absolutely no reason and now I have to wear long sleeves to work because it looks like I was abused or something which I kind of was by your staff. All I have to say is be careful who you decide to pull this bs on because you could have a lawsuit on your hands. We are just trying to have a good time so I'm sorry that your lives are so terrible that this is what you do for fun but I suggest to management to hire people who aren't so insecure that they have to manhandle women.

THIS PLACE IS RACISTS AND SHOULD BE PUT OUT OF BUSINESS!!! My birthday was this past weekend July 5th, a group of my family and friends were all going out to celebrate with me. 2 members of my party got there before the rest of us. When they got in line they were asked if they were members the doorman stated they were only letting members in. A group of ppl walked past them stood in line and were let in immediately. The group of ppl who were let in were white, the 2 members from my group asked the next group that stood in line if they were members and they had no idea what they were talking about. The marking manager by the name of John W was contacted and he stated he didn't know what was going on at the door and stated he would call them back he never did nor did he answer his phone anymore. Once I got there with the rest of my party I too stood in line with everybody and spoke to the some ppl who were standing in line behind us they were out to cheer up there friend. Because it was only 3 of them we let them stand in front of us. I watched someone skip a group of black ppl who were in front of the line and in front of the group of 3 white ppl who we let in front of us unhook the rope and walked them into the club. Looking at all the ppl on the patio it was only white ppl. When we tried to find out what was going on we were told they were only letting in ppl who purchased VIP tables which were starting at $500. I just turned 31 on Saturday and I've never experienced racism before that night, but this place is very racist! I checked they're event calendar and there were no scheduled events located on there web page. They turned every black person away, we ended up finding another place to go but what a horrible thing to experience on your birthday.

This was the worst late night outing spot I have ever experienced - and this is from someone who has experienced nightlife all over the world. First thing: the bouncer was a complete jerk on some sort of underserved power trip. We had a reservation under the name "Matt" and he couldn't even read four letters. As a joke I said "let's get you some hooked on phonics LOL" and that 500 pound hog had the audacity to tell me to get Adkins diet. Um honey, im like a quarter of your size. Second thing: genius bouncer finally locates the Matt reservation. Here's the catch: I happen to be Asian and he said "the chink is not allowed." So I asked to speak with a manager and he is just as worse if not more and he also said don't let the chink in. Thirdly: bar wonder grabs meck police to arrest me for trespassing even though I was on a public street. So of course, cops also being the genius that they are, threw me down on the concrete, bashed my head against a cinder block wall and then handcuffed my wrists so tight I fractured both wrists. The cherry on top of the cake: I have a heart condition and they refused to let me take my medication - if I miss it, it's life threatening. Also, all the fat officers at the station were just on freaking Facebook. Wow our govt is a well oiled machine, ain't it. **BONUS: one idiot tried to argue with me about proper American spellings. Of course I schooled his ass. Your GED has nothin on my JD.

Very large "security guard" at the door this past Sunday who refused entry to an event due to having a camera...meanwhile, a man was standing nearby already inside the event with a camera. "Security guard" asked "who do you work for?" in a loud tone of voice in front of a line of people and told me I would need to walk several blocks to my car to put the camera away, when he could have just held the camera at the front desk until we ate and left. When informed that I wasn't there to take photos of the run down establishment, large security guard stated I would not be allowed entry. Large security guard was argumentative, ghetto, and unbecoming of a professional environment....all over a camera? Very miserable man. Large security guard then began screaming he would not provide a refund for what a friend and I paid to get in....what a miserable, miserable person. All of this over a camera. Perhaps if he had better customer service skills, he could work a better job at a higher rate of pay and buy his own camera! Would not recommend this establishment for eating, drinking or anything else, and certainly would not recommend the organization who hosted the party, AMG Entertainment Group.

Hello, I attended your establishment tonight in hopes of celebrating my birthday. I purchased a table and alcohol with the perception that this was a reputable place of business that put the safety of its patrons first. I have never been more disappointed and disrespected. A member of my party was wounded and had to seek medical attention! He was not provided the necessary amount of urgency required. What is worse is the issue that escalated had nothing to do with my guest however my guest were casualties. The "security" that you all employed were highly insensitive to the situation at hand. Another patron that was not a part of my group was allowed to aggressively place his hands on me as we were leaving and nothing was done to address the manic situation at hand. I would like to have a member of management and ownership reach out to me personally to provide me with a resolution. If I do not hear from anyone I will be taking the necessary legal action. As an establishment you are liable for the safety of your patrons.

Visited a year or so ago for trap house music night.. The management of the line was very disorganized with random people jumping the line and the bouncers charging cover for people who had been waiting a long time during the free entry period n then the cover doubled from $10 to $20. My friends and I were on the list for free admission, but I think we ended up having to pay something. After that mess was sorted out.. Once inside my friends and I had a good time. One of my friends was celebrating their birthday and we shared a complimentary bottle. Music was decent. Crowd was cool. I second what other reviewers said tho about the bouncers and people who should be cut off by the bar- there was somebody who spilled their entire drink on the dance floor and nobody cleaned it up. Go with a group or go somewhere else. Random on decor.. Stuffed bear when you walk in.. Kinda trippy/cabin feel.

With a rotating DJ set located in Southend, the oak room is positioned to be one of the top clubs in Charlotte. However, for a 20$ cover, they consistently let us down with the service and experience expected for such a venue. With their focus on table service instead of the general patron, it creates an environment that doesn't foster the club experience expected of other greater clubs outside of Charlotte. (2022 Edit: Apparently the talk is that bouncers have been extorting people for cash because of "dresscodes" and being aggressive. Hasn't happened to me but when half of my friends have had some kind of issue in the last 3 months well it's not a good look.) Expand the floor, invest more in your sound/DJs/service, and they'll improve. But for Charlotte, it works I guess, there are just better options down the street.

  • Adam Fletcher

Went here to watch the Panthers playoff game at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon. The music was so loud that I was forced to communicate with the group I arrived with through text during most of our visit. Additionally, the best beer that is available at this bar is Yuengling and/or Budweiser, which is very sad given all the quality breweries in the Greater Charlotte area. I understand why they keep music loud in clubs, because people get frustrated trying to communicate and the alternative is for them to simply give up trying to communicate and they just drink more - awesome. However, it was 4pm, and nearly everyone was wearing Panthers gear. We left before the 1st quarter was finished and I don't see myself returning here with all the other options available. You can choose a better place to spend your money!

  • Dee Poage

Ciaa saturday day party. Our crew spent over $3000 for only 2 hours because the oak room decided to let to many people in. And the fire Marshall shut it down. Including the owner of oak room as well. Waste of hard earned money for sure. We was having so much fun just like we do every year for CIAA but this time they decided to be greedy. We didn't even get to see Mr. Cheeks perform and he was the only one to perform a couple of his hits. Never saw dougie nor juvenile. Smh...We definitely need a refund back. They were charging $100 just for general admission so imagine how much we paid for our section and bottles. Was this planned or a set up because this is the last year for CIAA in Charlotte NC? Oak room definitely got paid due to greed. For that reason I'm giving them a 2 rating!

  • Joshlynn Boyd

The security or bouncers, whatever are rude af. Me and my friends were escorted to the V.I.P section but apparently our friend pointed us to the wrong section and about 10 min later a group of people came to the section looking confused and decided to tell security. The security rudely told us to get up and leave and said out loud the owner of that section didn’t want us there. He had a flashlight all in our faces and literally kicked us out the entire club, he didn't even care to listen to us to figure out why we were there. Later we figured out we were supposed to be in the section beside the one we were in but the whole thing was just embarrassing and disrespectful. Smh and their line outside was bout sloppy af and disorganized.

  • Fernando C.

I can’t believe after reading all of these reviews I am not alone in feeling how disrespectful and power hungry the bouncers are at this club. Absolutely no customer service. I have never been so disrespected in all my life. Management had no interest on the way my wife and I were treated by the bouncer. Also good luck with the police officers who are outside in front of club because they are hired by the club just for show and make it clear they are off duty. They will fake write a report. after you call the real cops they stop them from coming as if they are going to help when truly there only interest they have is for the clubs well being. If you want to be treated like a dog and disrespected this is the club to be in.

  • Erika Leone

This place is nothing special. Slate/Oak Room have just become plain lame. I went about a year ago and the dance floor was poppin' off. Went this past weekend, and the music/vibe was terrible. There's so much good music out there--why are you still playing "You Be Killin 'Em" by Fabolous? And nobody was about to pay money to rent a table there. Why would they? The place was empty at midnight. The worst part, though, was getting in. The bouncer extorted $20 from my fiance because he was wearing shoes that weren't allowed. (They were plain white Air Force Ones, BTW). Once we got in, I saw PLENTY of people wearing shoes that "aren't allowed." They sure have a racket going on there. For sure the worst part of South End.

  • Chantel V

Ive heard good things about this club so me and a group of friends decided to check it out since we are new to Charlotte. The line was long but there was no cover and we got in very quickly which was a plus. Immediately we head to the bar and after ordering drinks the bartender told us we have to keep our tab open and we could not get our cards back until 10-15mins. Unacceptable. We decided to go to the dance area, which was way too overcrowded, until we could go back to the bar. We head back to the bar & my friend asks for our cards. The bartender comes back with the cards, tossed my receipt and rudely points to the tablet for me to sign. Needless to say I will not be returning

  • Casey Guglielmi

The staff has a chip on their shoulder and the “dress code” is very vague. My husband was let in wearing flip flops, while our friend was asked to slip the bouncer $20 to be let in because he was wearing brand new shiny white Jordan’s. Inside we saw lots of people wearing tennis shoes of different brands. It seems racist to Single out a brand that a certain group of people tends to wear.... and rather than stick to your dress code you just ask people to pay you off?! Shady!! He only paid because my girlfriend and I were dressed up and ready to drink and dance. Once inside the music was so terrible that we left within half an hour and went uptown. We will never come here again.

  • Anonymous Dasher

I went out with my friends this Friday and we had a good time the music was great! the atmosphere was great! I wish they had just a little more variety as the music was 80% reggaeton but it was not experience overall. the only real issue I had was with one of the bartenders the one on the left closest to the dance floor. She made our drinks wrong we ordered 2 long islands which consist of 4 spirits, sweet and sour, and coke. however she only mixed 1 spirit, sweet and sour, and coke! Long island is one of the classic drink recipes and she managed to mess it up thats the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5

  • gypsy williams

Omg it was horrible...where was the fire martial..this place . was extremely over crowded..me and a guy friend had a section with friends in the center back of the club when a MASSIVE FIGHT BROKE out nciaa weekend...the only thing didving us was easily moved couches and red rope. .the fight spilled over into our section knocking down our drinks..which are removed after 2 am so if u get there late u pay for a bottle u never get to drink..when didn't see yo gotti because we left for fear of the dangerous brawl..that destroyed our table..we left in out chrome blue lambo and made love..

  • Andres Gonzalez

What an awful Latin party they have on fridays! @djmp3.704 seems to have an iTunes free trial because all of his mixes are 15 seconds at the most per song. Not being able to dance a single song...and @djcali704 played only electronic music. I really was expecting a lot more from @djcali704. Not a single salsa song. Like 3 merengues of 15 seconds each one. @djmp3.704 played the same reggaeton song FIVE times!!! We counted them. This place it’s mostly VIP tables where you have to pay at least two bottles of alcohol and they cost you at least $150 per bottle.

  • Travis McMillan

Stood in line for 30 min just to be told I couldn't wear Jordan's, lebrons, nor high top shoes on a Saturday. I'm from out of town and this just didn't sit well with me. I counted 3 other guys who had on Jordans. The security guard tried to get loud when the other security guard was checking my shoes. I'm fresh and he was just hating. Sounds like something a racist club would do. I say that because the black community always wears high tops of some sort when they go out. Not vans, chuck Taylors, or sperrys. It's all good I will never go back!!

  • Shirlette Chambers

A very disappointing experience. Apparently the laid back sports bar and upscale dance club have combined which creates an awkward mix in the crowd. People dressed up in heels and cocktails dressed intermingled with people wearing flip flops and cargo shorts. This is no longer a place for "grown and sexy". Lots of immature and disrespectful college kids who are overly eager to drink and grind on someone. I have been to the oak room before and I'm truly upset with the direction it has gone into. Needless to say, I didn't stay there long.

  • Erin Blake

We came to the Oak Room after a previous good time on a Saturday night. Tonight we tried to go again and was told that they were only accepting people on guest lists and tables. No general admission. what kind of club is not open for general admission on a Saturday? it seems as if they are trying to be selective which is their choice but it appears to have racist undertones with their fictional guestlists and force feeding of buying a table. This place needs to reconsider it's purpose and welcome paying patrons in

  • Jes Lea

Went Sat night Apr06. Bouncers here were wildly inappropriate. Me and my wife were making out with a girlfriend and we notice a bouncer has his face literally inches from ours with a huge grin on his face (close enough we could smell his breath) I get it, two girls making out is exciting. Do you job, dont act like a 6 year old kid, dont act like youre somehow entitled to play. Totally unprofessional, kills the mood, made the girls feel unsafe, and we left. Definitely not coming back.

  • Luis Perez

We went as a group of friends of 6 and one of our friends (girl) got charged the entry fee because her hair was short all the other girls didnt pay anything. After we told the lady why she charged her she laughed and made an upsetting comment of “ shes only a girl if she doesnt have to pay”. She is straight and got charged only to be made fun of by the receptionist because of her hair being short!

And there was other seating which would had fit our 8 not occupied.. WE Troopers will make the best of it. In the we set Apart

  • Nikki

We paid for a V.I.P table to have a good time. Unfortunately, security and club staff let one section have unauthorized guest which caused a fight with another section. Bottles and a fire extinguisher was thrown. We had no where to duck for safety. My boyfriend was hit and head busted open. Manager did nothing at all. We weren't apart of the fight but was treated poorly. NEVER would I visit Oakroom again. No responsibility was taken tonight.

  • Dammaris Chavez

The worst experience ever. I was really looking forward to going out and dancing to celebrate my friends birthday, on a Friday. It was latin night so it made it even better, when we get there the security checks my ID and doesn’t allow me to go in ( I’m 20 ) the only reason we decided to go was because Friday’s its 18+ for women. When we asked about the new age limit he wouldn’t give us an explanation, security guard was a very rude person

  • Antron Jordan

We went here on Sunday for the All star henny and waffles day party they held the line sooo bad we where in line for close to two hours with RSVP tickets. It started raining they didn’t care they continued to hold the line until they wasn’t accepting no RSVP tickets anymore. Me and about 500 people in line wasted our damn time dealing with this place they treated us terrible We left and walk next door to Hot Taco that party was LIT.

  • Ariel Evans

This establishment is beyond racist. I literally just got into an argument with a caucasian bottle host that felt that she could bump us and respond with don’t touch her which led to a confrontation. I was rushed by a security guard, completely unaware of the situation and is only going off based what he felt in the moment. I will find out who this owner is.

  • Darealcesar2x

Security/ Bouncers should be on snapped. Lack of customer service when complaints on bouncer assault. Bouncers really need training. If going please be aware because even the cops outside are not on duty... they just represent the law by uniform not by actions. I can only vouch for one bouncer who was educated and had good representation.. the rest be aware.

  • Kimberly Hightower

I like to come here Friday nights but this last time the dj was horrible! It was suppose to be Latin night but I'm not really sure what he was playing....he couldn't make it 5 seconds through a song without changing it! I'm pretty sure he was drunk. The bartender remembered what drink I had from two weeks ago so I thought that was pretty awesome though.

  • Ava Goodwin

The oak was a great spot..!!! My first time here.. But the bartender cruella deville was very rude after she messed up my drink. She told me she would have me escorted out.. I wont be back because of her.. #peachciro was what i asked for regular was what i got. Btw i was never rude or mean. i worked in bars for years so i understand.. She was outrageous

  • Brandon Carter

I went to oak room Charlotte for the first time for the Chris Brown concert after party! I had the time of my life! The service was incredible! The bartending staff was very sweet! I had a very delicious raspberry margarita! The DJ was on a roll kept the crowd dancing all night! Located in uptown Charlotte with a very diverse crowd!

  • Princess Washington

Staff was terrible, staff is very racist and slewed very racist comments at my “intoxicated” friend for no reason. We were literally there to have a good time! This place doesn’t have much of a future at this rate! Save your money and don’t waste your time this place is a terrible disappointment!!!

If I could give this place less than one star I would, ITS FRAUD! Second time I been here for a late night event where they said a certain celebrity would be here and didn’t show. Not to mention I had to pay twice at the door because of some apparent fraud with their Eventbrite. STAY AWAY, DONT SPEND A DOLLAR.

  • Ashley Johnson

**Would not recommend table service here!!!** Table service now sucks. Stood in line after my boyfriend paid $1500 for table service. Was called a broke “hoe” by the staff security for wanting to be with my party who was spending $1500 +. Not sure who manages this now. Very unprofessional and unorganized.

  • Oscar Romero

Friday Latin night is basically all reggaeton. As a DJ you need to play a variety of music. Especially on Latin night where people come out to dance more than just perreo. They teased the floor with a minute of bachata and went back to reggaeton the rest of the night. We were there for a solid 2 hours.

  • Inspired Poet

always have a good time when I go. It's like a one stop shop with their many options to satisfy all needs. From the Game room, lounge area, food, bar, and then club room, you will not get bored here. So not sure what you want to do or your mood changes option, Oak Room is where you want to be.

  • early hale

In town on a work assignment and looked up clubs and thought I would stop here and see how it is.... couldn't get in cause I had on basketball shoes. .. if you going to turn people around for shoes and boots you should have a dress code on your page ... waste of time coming here

  • Kirstie Greene

The carpet was extremely dirty for an $800 VIP section!! When I went to leave at 2:05 am, the guys said I couldn’t use the restroom. I have an hour commute home. The worker said “find a QT.” This is how they treat their clients. Terrible place & will NOT EVER come back!!!

Terrible. If your thinking about going, DO NOT. Dirty, not courteous. Police there intimidating everyone. Bouncers are the worst. I would not spend my money there.
