If you need a city sticker, get to city hall before they open. I got there at 7:55 and was second in line. I was so glad I did because then I was helped by Barbara J, who is the singularly kindest city official I have ever had the good fortune to encounter. I just honestly explained my situation to her and she really did the best she could to help and for that, I am incredibly grateful. I couldn't take off time from work so I asked my boyfriend if he could drive me there and drop me off so I could go right in, and also so I didn't have to find somewhere to park and/or pay to park in a garage, and then find my way back to city hall, and then find my way back to my car, and then try to get to work on time. He waited for me around the corner in the car with the hazard lights on so they couldn't give me a ticket while I was literally inside getting a sticker. If you have someone to do this for you, I think it's best option. If you move to the city and have a car registered to your Chicago address, make sure you get a city sticker RIGHT AWAY, even if you park in a private two-car garage and don't even work in the city like I do, otherwise they will give you a $200 ticket which you will have to pay in addition to the cost of the sticker (~$80) + a $60 late fee + backcharges for the all months that you've been living there without a sticker. Seriously, just get it within your first month and try to get Barbara J at 8 am on a Friday.

I went in to get my vehicle sticker/permit to park at my new apartment. I was told that I had to pay a fee for a wheel tax because I didn't have my car registered in the city when I had it here prior to having it at this new apartment. I had a parking spot included at my last apartment so I didn't need to park on the street. How was I supposed to know that I needed to have my car registered in the city and have a city sticker if I don't ever park in permit parking? Absolutely ridiculous. So, if I ever want to have my car registered in the city, I have to pay a late fee on top of the other fees and if I don't and just park in permit parking, they said I can get $200 fines. It's especially frustrating because on the phone they made it seem like it wasn't a big deal and then when they are "making conversation" with you and ask about if you just moved here, they are really probing to see if they can gauge you for more money. Rude and misleading.

I got a ticket for city sticker expired when I see that the rules say your renewal date is 6 months after plate sticker renewal date which mine should be September but I got a ticket in July because somebody who works for the city entered the wrong renewal month for me so I thought it was September but when I go to city hall to complain they verbally admit it is wrong but have not fixed it I did like the hearing judge said ask them to give me in letter form that this was a mistake in order for her to dismiss this $200 ticket but I’m told I can’t get a letter admitting a mistake was done nor has it been corrected. So what can I do ? Who can I talk to to help resolve my problem I don’t feel it’s fair for me to have to purchase a City sticker right after purchasing my plate sticker when the rules say 6 Months after nor do I feel I should get stuck with this $200 ticket thank God I didn’t get more tickets it is more than the $87 city sticker

The City Clerk and City of Chicago could care less about their residents and their residents safety. The reason why everyone is moving out Chicago is because of how they treat us. I was robbed at gunpoint and my car was stolen along with other personal belongings. I kindly asked for a new city sticker to be mailed to me and provided all information needed for this but they refuse to send me this via mail. I am expected to risk my safety during a pandemic and come into the office to handle it. First of all, I have a job and can’t afford to take off work. Secondly, I don’t feel safe due to the pandemic, being exposed to others and parking alone by myself. I am dealing with PTSD and I don’t have the desire to park on a street. The office doesn’t care about my safety or health and that’s unfortunate. They only want our money. Oh and should I add the criminals were released and let out on bail.

There are so many varying reports of the type of customer service at this location I imagine it's hard to determine what's up. So I'll just relate my experience ~ which was excellent. I went to the Clerk's Office to transfer a city sticker to a new vehicle. There was no line (I was able to get there around 11:30 a.m.) and my agent, Stephanie was extremely helpful - in fact she was the first person to FINALLY answer a question I couldn't get after phoning the office several times. She was courteous and knowledgeable. I know that government positions/employees always seem to get a bad rap, but this was not my situation at all. Hope anyone else who needs to visit a City Clerk's office is met with a similarly nice exchange of business as I did.

Trying to get a parking sticker is harder than getting into medical school. I left Chicago and moved back and had to send several emails and wait on the phone a few times for 30+ minutes for them to remove in invalid late fee. I also have a 1/2 in my address (I'm sure I'm not the only resident who lives in a building like this) and their system wont accept it. Therefore my sticker cannot be mailed to me. The people who answer the phone are super rude and unhelpful and have no problem telling you "there's nothing we can do". Fix your system to accommodate your residents and make your department more accessible than the 3-5 day wait it takes to get an email back.

  • Kari Dragoo

Very unhelpful over the telephone. Called to try to ascertain why an approved Currency Exchange location charged me $97 for a city sticker that's only good for 3 months. Was quite rudely instructed that I have to come in in person to have it explained to me when I know for a fact that the sticker should only cost ~$87 for the entire YEAR. Will update after I go in to find out why they are allowed to screw over new Chicago residents. I get that I was late on getting the sticker (because I didn't know about it & the DMV didn't tell me) but this $97 is AFTER the late fee - my total charges for a sticker that is good for THREE MONTHS was $162. Absolutely asinine.

Went to Clerk's Office with trepidation since the senior I was representing had gotten her city sticker situation into complicated territory. (She had become sick and had not secured a sticker for 18 months after buying her new car.) But Barbara Johnson at the counter took care of the matter with politeness and expertise and even noticed that my friend was due a refund of part of the cost of her sticker. Kudos to Ms Johnson who patiently spent about 7 minutes sorting out the matter, and thanks to the Clerk's Office for the staffing level that got me in and out with only about 6 minutes of waiting time.

Like most here rating, I am quite surprised to be rating any type of office like this a 5 star rating. But the process literally took me less than 8 minutes. I walked straight in, no line, knew the things I needed to have for them, gave all the info and proof to them. Then I was DONE, she printed the sticker and I was out! Patricia F. is who helped me, she was very friendly and we actually had a nice decent conversation! (I went in on a Tuesday morning at about 9:30am) for those who are wondering a good time to go!

I've never had a bad experience here before. The lines are never terribly long. The credit card machine was down which we were notified about before we got in line by another employee. Ponchita helped me out today and was fabulous. She was getting yelled at by a customer as we waited in line due to the credit card machine being down, demanding that she gets to pay with a CC, as if Ponchita could magically make it happen. Ponchita handled it properly and it was a pleasure working with her when it was our turn.

I have tried to call this office for 2 days and I have been put on hold for almost 1/2 he each time. I called 311 and explained that I couldn't reach the office. I was transferred and once again put on hold! I am a senior and I am trying to transfer my vehicle sticker so I meed to know what I need to bring to the office. I am already upset because there is no office on the SE side of town and I have to travel to Archer Ave when I live 3100 east!! If I could give 0 stars I would!!

The ladies collecting traffic ticket fines and payment plan money , are the Best ! Above and beyond the call of duty . Very cordial and expedient . No , wasted effort because they have their " s _ _ t together " ! I have problems hearing and cognitively thinking (PTSD) . When I informed them , they took extra care and were very deliberate . I am profoundly greatful for their respect and positive interactions ! God Bless , Mr. Carlos Navarro Community Leader

Maybe I got lucky but the city clerks office is by far the best government office I've dealt with. My city sticker was lost in the mail - when I called I got a quick and simple answer to come to the office for a free replacement. Waited in line for under five minutes (during lunch hour downtown), filled out a form, and had my new sticker a few minutes later at no charge. No fuss, no muss.

The Cook County Clerk's Office is an amazing place to come and record my clients' marriage licenses. The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. As a wedding officiant, it is crucial to have a key centered location in proximity to all or most Cook county residents. Love this place! By the way, if you need a Wedding Officiant, Google: Adolfo & Co.

Since my alderman's office closes at 2 pm and I work until 5 pm, I took a quick break from work (in the Loop) to go buy residential parking permits. I was expecting there to be a line, but my surprise, there was none. If all you need to do is go to Room 107, around 9 am is a great time. No line, no waiting. I was in and out in less than 2 minutes.

  • Gregory Powers

One of the worst experience I have had. After waiting in line for over an hour they charged me a late fee for a Chicago sticker for a car that is registered to my other address in the suburbs. I am only now driving it into the city and needed a zone pass to park. I should not have to pay for a late fee on a car that never resided in the city.

  • dodi shatzman

Clerk was horribly rude, nasty and loud. Wouldn’t sell me a city sticker because I didn’t have copy of my lease. She shouldn’t be working with the public with that bad attitude. City stickers help keep her employed. Went to Gale Street next day and they were exceptional. Got sticker in Five!!! minutes. Kudos to Gale Street staff.

  • Chris

Really fast and easy to get a city sticker. in and out in 15 minutes. The problem is i was charged a late fee of $60. The SoS office told me 30 days to get a sticker from when I got my car registered, and city clerk said no, 30 days from starting residency. So I was lied to and had to pay $60 late fee for it.

  • Lulu Jabiji

The most vile and rude workers who give extreme attitude for literally no reason. Never going back there again they are so disgusting both in person and over the phone. If you can’t work with people don’t work a job where you have to talk to other people constantly. It’s that simple.

  • kate swem

Big old line for city stickers but...very nice helpful staff. The line moves relatively quickly. Only been here for half an hour and about to get out. Seems like the process is much improved compared to previous years. They could add some chairs though like the DMV and a # system.

  • T Nguyen

It took maybe 10 minutes to get my stickers during lunch time. I did my research online beforehand so I knew what to bring. I have been before to ask questions at the information desk and they were very knowledgeable. Only complaint would be the cost of the stickers.

  • Kamilah Shelton

Some of the phone representatives are among the most unpleasant folks to interact with. Unnecessarily rude and very unhelpful. I get that this type of job may be difficult at times but, the negative attitudes from the jump make for a bad customer experience.

  • John McManus

I went to obtain a residential parking permit today and spoke with a clerk who lectured me on getting it three days past due on my new car. She just wouldn't give up. So condescending and unprofessional and seemed like she just wanted to start a fight.

  • Kate Hildebrand

Went to the City Hall location today as a new, from-out-of-state resident and found everyone extremely helpful in explaining the ins and outs of permit parking. Glad to have my sticker and to avoid surface lot payments or worse, parking fees!

  • Angela Herberg

Was so nervous going in because of all the reviews had read online. But they were quick and efficient. The lady helping me even gave me different options for my situation. Was in and out in less then 10 minutes.

  • Roz Hosea

I always get the same clerk every year. She is the best, she gives you options, she's always polite, she always checks to make sure everything is correct, and knows her job. Thanks for excellent customer service

  • Jordan Brown

Honestly? I went in on a Thursday at Noon, there was no line, the lady at the desk was super sweet and helpful. Got a city sticker with zone parking and was out of there in a few minutes. Don’t call, just go in

  • Neldra Baker

  • Edward Nickelson

I went at 11:30 on a Wednesday and there was only a 5 minute wait in line. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. I was in and out in 20 minutes and had a great experience!

  • david fleming

The female agent was outstanding. Went above and beyond for me. Wish I had taken her name. Was there to get a city sticker. Didn’t know veterans get a free sticker for one vehicle.

  • Abby Owens

Staff at the Office of the City Clerk sound like they absolutely hate their lives every time I call in or visit in person to get my zone passes. Vile and rude customer service.

  • Katie Hartman

I registered my car in the state of IL on May 1st and was hit with a $60 late fee for not getting a city sticker within 30 days. It was 31 days right after a federal holiday.

  • Juicy Bibbs
