This beautiful, original old home was built in 1909. It sits on a elevated position with views of Mt Wellington and the Derwent river. A lovely garden with onsite parking, surrounds the front of the home and would be beautiful in the warmer months. The inside of the home, including the rooms, are decorated true to the time period. Spacious rooms contain all the normal motel offerings, although the TV stations are limited and there are no streaming options (not an issue for me but might be for some). My room (Ethel Pearce) had an entrance off the front verandah as well as from the hallway. Rooms with verandah access, have seated areas outside the front door where one can enjoy the view of the garden and the river with the option to buy an afternoon tea or a cheese platter. The bed was big and super comfy. There is a guest lounge with fireplace and also a lovely breakfast room. Nina is a warm, welcoming, friendly host who clearly loves the home and hosting guests. She also makes amazing baked goods! Continental breakfast is included and has the usual offerings, but Nina goes the extra mile with home made Granola, home made yoghurt and different baked goods each morning. And they taste amazing! There’s also the option of pre ordering hot breakfast. The accomodation is a short 10 minute drive to Hobart central (20 by bus). If you are after something unique, that has everything you need, is clean, well maintained and comfortable and you don’t mind the short drive to town, then this enchanting accomodation is for you. I have no hesitation recommending Orana House and would happily stay here again.

We stayed here around 20 years ago and have revisited Orana House as we have such good memories. There have of course been new owners over this period, but the house remains the same. Big, solid, welcoming in itself, and a very pleasant place to stay when visiting Hobart. It's self check-in these days and you'll find a folder with your name on it as you enter. This provides your room key, directions and everything else you need for your stay. Your payment will have been taken from your guaranteeing credit card a few days earlier, so you don't need to meet your hosts. You may meet them at breakfast the next morning, when a hot breakfast is served in the guest diningroom. We stayed in the Eric Pearce Room which was small but nevertheless very comfortable. The private bathroom was a nice size. There is also a nice guest loungeroom.

Hubby and I went here for our wedding anniversary a few years ago we lived it so much we went again on another anniversary and plan to go again. Lovely decorated rooms to suit the period of the house and gardens. I also got to meet a cute geniue pig out in the garden. Breakfast was also amazing.

Nina is an exceptional host - friendly, welcoming and so helpful. She bakes delicious treats for guests including seeded bread, carrot cake, lemonade scones and home made yoghurt! She was happy to mind our bags after we checked out so we could explore the city for a few hours before catching a later flight. The room was even more beautiful than we expected, the bed was comfy and everything was clean and tidy. The other guests were all polite and friendly. The communal lounge and dining room are also very lovely

Our stay at Orana house was so beautiful! Nina was a lovely host, and the house itself is gorgeous. Rooms were neat and tidy with everything we needed, and breakfast each day (whether cooked or continental) was the perfect way to start the day, especially the little fresh baked goodies each morning. Thanks so much for having us! We will definitely be back next time we come to Hobart

Nina was an amazing host. With delicious home made bread offered for breakfast every morning, and on occasions homemade cupcakes. The house is beautifully furnished with lovely views and garden. The room was clean (Ellen Pearce Room) with tea and coffee in the room. The bathroom was a little small (but clean), but more than adequate for our stay. We will stay here again the next time we're in Hobart.

What a treat! We spent 3 days at Orana house ( 2 adults and 2 teenagers). We fell in love with the place and with Pauline. Dear Pauline, so welcoming, so helpful, so generous in every ways. We also loved the comfy beds, the daily homemade cookies, the breakfast, the fire place… We didn’t want to leave! And we’ll be back for sure. We would stay nowhere else in Hobart! ❤️

We got the pleasure of meeting the owner of Orana House Pauline, and she was such a warm and helpful hostess ! She gave us a sumptuous breakfast everyday and lots of useful tips in travelling to Bruny Island, and we are so grateful we have chosen to stay in Orana House. The whole 3 days had exceeded our expectations, and we would love to go back whenever we return to Hobart. Highly recommended !

We really enjoyed staying at Orana house, it is a beautiful house beautifully furnished and clean. Our host Pauline went out of her way to make our stay special. Breakfast was included in the price which was very reasonable and Pauline's carrot cake was to die for. We had a standard queen room, which in hindesite was a bit small for our weeks stay. If we went again we would definately choose a bigger room. Having said that it was still lovely.

What a beautiful way to end our Tasmania adventure. About 12 minutes to the airport, Orana House is a truly beautiful place to stay. Pauline is the penultimate host!! We could not fault her or the house. From the well appointed rooms (adorned in tasteful antiques) to the home made afternoon tea and Anzac biscuits. Thank you for sharing this piece of history.

Pauline is the loveliest hostess and made our stay at Orana House very comfortable and made sure we had everything we needed. The Ronald Pearce room is lovely, spacious and cosy, the bed was so comfortable and the whole house itself is rich in character and history. We then enjoyed a delicious cooked breakfast in the morning. Thank you Pauline for what was the loveliest stay at Orana House. Tamara and Darragh

We made a last minute reservation and got there around 8 and the owner Stan was kind and helpful. The place is historic and well maintained with comfortable rooms and bathrooms. There is a heater on the wall for those chilly nights, which it was while we were there. The breakfast and coffee machine was very good and the views and gardens are beautiful. We would definitely stay if we visit again. Thanks Stan!

Orana house is such a special place. Lovely quaint old house with character. Anna and Stan always knows how to make us feel welcomed. Beds were comfortable and the heater in the rooms heated the whole space so quickly. Bathrooms were clean and spacious. Lovely communal eating area and there's a fireplace where you can cozy up with a good book. Always great coming back here again.

  • Shermaine C

Beautiful place that you can get a lovely view of mount wellington every morning. Not too far from anything in the central of hobart if you have a car. Breakfast every morning was good and also the room was spacious. I loved the jet bathtub as it’s size was fantastic (could fit 2). The bed is really soft and spongey (too soft for my liking) but overall still a five star!

Wonderful B&B with parking, great views of Hobart, beautiful gardens, good breakfast (baked beans & toast for those who aren't meat eaters which was good). Kitchen for cooking and storing food in the fridge was handy too! All day coffee and tea available in the dining room too. Highly recommend this as a place to stay.

This is a little gem of Hobart tucked away just a stone's throw from the waters edge. The rooms are spacious and lovely queen Anne period. The hosts are so friendly and welcoming with breakfast and a warm fire in the sitting room complete with hot chocolate and marshmallows supplied. All so affordable and private.

Pauline was a friendly and caring host. Ask her to teach you Mah Jong! Breakfast was above expectations and location for the Coal Valley wineries was perfect. Heritage house embraced its history. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Amazing property with a history of over a century.Spacious room with all modern amenities with a subtle heritage touch. Wonderful view of the bay overlooking mt Wellington peak. Our host was super helpful and welcoming. 5 stars!

What an historic house should be, just beautiful. Comfy bed, fabulous amenities, easy access. The rooms are named from the children of the original owners, as are the breakfast tables. No disputes there. Highly recommended.

As usual Stan, the host, greeted us with a warm welcome. The room is a different one to what we had last time. But still very nice and comfortable. There are near by services an easy walk away. We'll be coming back again.
