I wont even give Ou Skip Melkbos One star or even half a star. I have never had such a bad experience at a camping site in my live. The place is neglected and not maintained at all. We booked well in advance and paid up full in advance. if I knew all of this I would never had paid in advance. There pictures on the web site is not at all what the camp site looks like now. There weren't any hot water at our facilities The water pipes busted 3 time and then we where without water for a day and even two days. There is no grass only sand and build up fallen of leaves and pines. The put put track is all broken up with dead grass around it but, they still charge you even if you can play a decent game and no score cards. The swimming pool is nice and big yes but, all green and not cleaned. Their policy's also dose not count for all the campers some day visitors came in with public transport without paying or cooped up in cars. some came during the late nights and where cramped up in a on bedroom chalet where two people booked in originally and became 10 at night. Where other day campers had to pay R50 for a 20min visit (all day campers are suppose to pay for a day visit). Loud music played until the early morning hours and that was just fine with the care takers but others where told at the gate already to turn there music down. The personnel and security is not client friendly or client orientated. There charging per site also differ for campers. R490 per night for two adults and two small kids. (ridiculous) We paid for one of our visiting kids a teenager R180 for three nights and our other two adult kid R120 for two nights. But according to camp policy only 6 people are allowed on a site. Some site was so over crowded they used other site to park cars and use there braai facilities. Yes I do sound like a moaning old woman but a person expect if you pay these high rates to at least have a decent camping site. There site is also very small. I pity the permanent residence ( some are elderly people) that has to go in the early morning hour or afternoon for a bath with out any hot water. It was also very difficult with the small children having a cold bath ( the get sick so easily)

When we awoke it was a most beautiful day.  Sun streaming in the window, little birds singing in the trees.  We decided it was a good day to look at the places of interest in and around Melkbosstrand.  Our friend Mrs Google told us of two points of interest, one being the Damhuis and one the Brass Castle.  Obviously the Brass Castle was first on our list and then the Damhuis which was now a restaurant would be a suitable  place to have lunch. Following Mrs Garmin's directions, we ended up in a residential area with no Castle.  Disappointed, we decided to go for a walk on the beach and then visit the Damhouse.  We were pleasantly surprised on arrival, as eventhough the house is now a restaurant, it has been maintained in its original condition, a perfect blend of old and new.  The house was originally built in 1785 and was called the Damhuis, as it was built in the edge of a fresh water spring which formed a small dam.  Originally the house was built by Christiaan Brand from cow dung, sand, hay and whale bone.  The house was originally used as a shed for drying fish, but was later converted into a home where the Brand family lived.  The restuarant manager was very knowledgeable on the history of the house and took us on a mini tour giving us a peek into the past.  We decided to stay for lunch and had a delicious meal. While we were eating lunch the restaurant manager brought us two books to browse, both containing a overview of the history of the building and also some insight into the family who originally lived in the house. All in all a very interesting place to visit

We only read the reviews while being on camp, we spent the long weekend pass there and for the 3 nights spent every night there, the (white)camper next to us complained about us being noisy note I say white as this place is very racist where your skin colour gets you help first and in a friendly manner.... I've been to various camping spots but by far this 1 is the worse you can not request no noise at all after 10pm we couldn't even laugh and that was a problem, 12pm is understandable which are most camping places time to tone down the noise, apart from that the permanent residence chased the kids away like they were dogs which we found very unruly when we wanted to address the situation no one answered the door, there aren't much activities for kids and what they have there isn't well maintained, they don't even have a life guard on duty if anything should happen, someone was training in the pool and that should have time schedules so that they don't get interrupted or that the people camping don't have to tone down their swimming activities as some are kids and want to have fun... The toilet/bath facilities are only cleaned 1s in the morning which is so unhygienic especially now that we have COVID 19 around, I will definitely not be heading back there again as this is not a true camp site it's more like a get away for old white folk that want to get away for relaxing time... And they only give you the option of giving 1 to five starts to rate I would go in a minus because this place doesn't deserve a star

Beautiful, peaceful, clean, friendly service, security is excellent patrolling 24hrs per day, ablution blocks clean and have baths to pamper yourself in a bubble bath. Chalets are beautiful, a home away from home, bush tents spacious and tidy, the best glamping spots, has everything, from dish washing liquid and handsanitizer to beds with bedding, electricity through out the camp. Just bring yourself. An experience in a tent with the extra little modern day luxuries. Caravan and tent sites are spacious and empty sites for your own tent or caravan. Hire theirs or bring your own. In season and mid season prices differ..so always good to call them in advance for the specials and for your bookings. There is a conference centre/ hall and Olympic size swimming pool which is enclosed with a see through fence. Also a little tuck shop if you need to buy your little things. The beach is within walking distance outside the camp.

We visited Ou Skip in December 2019 and were satisfied with it. The site was clean and somewhat protected from the wind. The Ablutions are old but clean. The downside is that you have to fetch toilet paper from the gate guard, there aren’t toilet roll holders. I do understand that some campers/people do waste it unnecessary, but still it just doesn’t feel right to have to go to the gate to fetch it and walk up and down with it between your site and the ablutions. You are made aware of the rules very well and it doesn’t feel welcoming. I understand that there are visitors/campers that do make a nuisance of themselves but most are actually very well behaved. The resort is situated close to the beach and you can easily walk there. It is also close to Cape Town and the winelands for quick visits. If time come I will visited Ou Skip again.

I use this 25m pool to outdoor train when the ocean is unfriendly. The facilities are old but clean and the staff friendly. The surroundings are green and well kept, creating a very relaxed atmosphere. The pool hasn't been busy on any of the occasions I've been there, though this might look different during holiday times. The pool is quite warm at 21°C at the time of writing. I find the shallow end a bit too shallow, making a roll risky to impossible and I need to bend my legs weirdly to turn without rolling, but no such issues at the deep end. Not a deal breaker though. A year pass cost me R300, and you'll break even at around 10 visits when paying the daily fee. There is also a car wash, so you can get your vehicle cleaned while training, which is a huge bonus in time. It cost me R115 for a mini valet. All&all, it beats swimming in the gym hands down and I'll use it as often as I can.

  • Elfrieda Schroder

Not to bad, liveable, chalets clean, nothing to rave about. Good enough as a place to stay and travel around. Not really a holiday resort. Well as it looks that it is not possible for me to do a new review,i will add to my previous one. Please think twice before you camp at this caravan park, especially on certain stands in the D camp. Permanent residence uses the entrance road as a Kayalami track, even though Management gave out a note regarding a R200 fine for speeding. And no one follows up on this point. Ablutions get used by some permanent residence and they leave it in the most terrible digusting state. Please remember to bring your own toiletpaper. This is sad as it is well positioned and near the sea but protected from the wind. The ground and cleaning staff is very friendly.

  • Gezell Julius

The old lady that manage the place is rude and bitter. We phone the day before and the morning before we left home to find out if they allow day visitors to which the answer was yes, and I was referred to the place by my colleagues for day visiting as they we allowed to enter for the day with ther family, when we arrive she just bluntly denies speaking to me and denied us access after we drove for 30 minutes. Then she rudely says that if we reside in blouberg we will be allowed to enter but we need proof of address. We will never refer anyone to her business very unprofessional and rude and inconsiderate. Not even thinking of the kids that are hot of the drive. A BIG THUMBS DOWN FOR THIS PLACE

This is not a holiday resort at all more like an old age home you cannot have permanent residents and expect people that come on holiday to not even play soft music than why advertise a holiday resort you should with have permanent residence or for holiday not for both I can understand if they say no load music but no music for people wanting to enjoy. it was the worse new year ever would not recommend this place for holiday and fun if you want to just go swim and sleep the rest of the time than this place if okay for you I heard so many campers complaining about not playing soft music and all of us would definitely not return if they could consentrate on cleaning toilets and bathrooms the way they consentrate on soft music maybe the place would work.

So ja we foned them in the week to ask if the pools are open 2 public(even wen we were there camping we asked face 2 face the lady at reception and the security at the gate during our stay)they said yes 2 all public,we asked if they sure cz we driving outa paarl, the receptionist then said yes she sure we welcome 2 come.we then come there the saturday morning early jis 2 tel us that we not allowed in the pool,we stand there telling her that we foned and YOU said its fine its open 2 all public, she looks at us all saying no1 foned them in the week, drive out unnecessary petrol cz of the lies she told us....jis b careful wen fone them....they shud get the fone etiquette right

When holidaying in Cape Town, Ou Skip is my go-to place. My previous review was done prior to my latest stay during Easter weekend. I decided to go with their bush camp idea. What a mistake. The "furniture" is hand made with chipboard, just screwed together. Tents are decent, but inside, not so good. I visited OuSkip the first time in 2006, and this was my 9th or 10th time. I can see how the maintenance is skipping. Things are not maintained to a standard where they can be proud of the resort. And their "No loud noise" seems to have been thrown out the window, because other patrons were drinking, making noise and singing, not considering fellow patrons.

  • Y, Mej. De Wet

We have camped all over South Africa as well as Namibia, Zambia, Mozambique and Botswana. This, however, was not one of our best experiences. The camp seems to be strictly run when you get there with all the forms etc, but they do not really enforce their rules wrt to noise and raucous behavior. The Friday night we had to ask a bunch of noise makers to leave as they were extremely loud. The Saturday evening/night we were bombarded with loud music. If you want to rest and have a relaxing weekend, this is not the place for you. There are a great deal of other places I would rather recommend.

We booked a caravan camp site for a month and they were very accommodating to find us a big enough site for our big caravan. The staff are friendly, helpful and competent. The office staff are available during the weekend and public holidays. I was impressed. There's a big pool and everything, including the ablution blocks are clean and well maintained. We already booked our next visit. Walking distance from the beach.

This camping site is well run and clean. It's a real gem. The ablution facilities are kept clean. 24/7 security patrolling the camping area. This campsite is situated 30km from Cape Town CBD with shops just around the corner in case you forgot anything. Just a shot stroll from the main gate then you on the beach. Facilities offer an 1/2 size Olympic swimming pool plus a kids pool. Play area for the little ones, convenience store on site. Put-put course and so much more...") Really had a good experience camping out here.... I've never felt this safe on a camosite in a long time.

Lovely camp in Melkbosstrand, no views of the sea. And the river that runs thru it is full of reeds, so you can't see the water. There was an Egyptian goose family with about 12 babies that walked all over the park. As well as a few bunny rabbits and beautifully coloured chickens. That was nice. Most of the camp sites are gassed with shrubs on the sides, we did find that the camp stands were a bit small.

Had an amazing time. We loved the tranquility. Beautiful trees everywhere, green grass and a lovely stream. It felt like we were 100s of miles away from the city. There were even wild bunnies hopping around. Our tent was clean and well equipped, the ablution blocks were clean and the pool was awesome. If you're looking to relax, unwind and enjoy nature, this is the place for you. If you're looking to party and be noisy, go somewhere else.

The facility was good but at the tent campsite where we were this weekend was nothing short of camping in the backyard in a very sub economic low cost housing scheme.....the most foul language all day all night the most vulgar behavior and the loudest top volume music all day all night and no authorities from the establishment to reprimand or silence them .....it was our worst camping weekend ever..never to be repeated.....such a let down ....went see us there again ....

  • stan edgie

Decent camping site not too far from Cape Town, and that there are plenty of shop close by means you don't have to take all your food with you. Well maintained, though some of the tented plots could use some grass (mostly sand). excellent for kids to enjoy themselves with a large pool, large grass play areas, and the beach is across the road. Affordable with power points, ablution blocks are ok, could do with a minor facelift.Only downside, watch out for snakes...

  • MJ Krugell

We stayed there the night before we sat of for the Put Foot Rally this year. The location is excellent as you can hear the ocean at night. I rate the service low as we never dealt with anyone from the Camp itself. I think that the price we paid for a "Safari Tent" for one night was a bit high and we expected a bit more from it. The camp generally looks good.

Not the same vibrant place since the new family bought the site some years ago. Old lady who managed the place spoke to me and my family in the most disgusting manner because our children were laughing too loud. We were not treated like customers. Extremely condescending and bitter. We have always supported the business for years and loved the place but will never go back and will definitely not recommend.

We had a lovely weekend. Place is a bit run down but you are camping. Bathrooms were clean. My only concern was that our camping site had only one power outlet between 2 camping sites. Was a bit of a struggle. My husband went to the mens bathrooms waiting for the shower and out of each of the showers came couples showering together. For me that is not acceptable especially with kids also using the bathrooms. Further more it is a good camping site.

Great place , unfortunately the people working there absolutely rude got no respect for there costumers . And if the maintanance guy cyril if im correct focus more on his work and leave the young girls alone and stop offering them lifts everywhere thant would also be great . Our first visit to this legendary caravan park. In general I enjoyed the place. Nice swimming pool. Ablutions are average - nothing special. On day 3 of our 5 day visit the lights went out in the gents and remained off for the rest of our stay. I particularly enjoyed the birdlife... just sitting in front of my caravan I identified more than 20 species... including a barbet that was pecking away at a stump a few metres from us.

  • Mick M Diederiks

Friendly...clean...very peaceful. Friendly and helpful staff. The garden and toilet cleaners are very very good. They keep the spots/gardens and toilets super clean. Thankyou to Ou Skip. Me and My partner Frank Mitchell spent a week there..... will go back ANYTIME. Was sad leaving.... Really all so nice....nature and birds. Can hear and walk to ocean/beach. Thankyou to Everyone. Staff/Workers..... Excellent

  • MrRbrwls

This rating is based on the caravan stand and the ablution facilities. The stands have comfortable sizes and the showers has lots of space. The shower heads are not that nice though and the caravan stand was full of small branches that were a bit annoying to deal with. No generators are available for when the power goes off. For the price, it is not too bad of a place to stay at. Friendly staff as well.

  • Nadia Strydom

What a lovely camping ground but poor management and cleaning staff on a Tuesday morning campers are still seeing and smelling the weekend campers sanitary pads in dustbins when trying to throw away an empty toilet roll, not even mentioning that you have to take a roll toilet paper with you each time as they do not put toilet paper in the toilets as per management cqmpers waste it if left in toilets

  • _ Brenner

We had a fabulous time at Ouskip. We opted for the bush camp experience, and as a "non-camper" I was pleasantly surprised by the high level of comfort. The service was impeccable, the place was clean at all times, and we felt absolutely safe all weekend. It was the perfect getaway, we're looking forward to making this trip an annual event. Thanks to all of the Ouskip staff for the wonderful time:-)

  • Crischelle Hanekom

Brilliant amenities, beautiful campsite, clean ablution blocks, friendly staff, fun playground and pretty good putt putt course. Swimming pool is kept clean but the chlorine or acid levels are a bit hectic - all the kids eyes were burning after only half an hour and one of our children's skin was burning from it with a rash. Otherwise we have had an absolutely magnificent stay!

  • Karen Mullins

I simply love to camp. Half an hour from cape town. You can use your own tent or use their ready made bush tents if you need to break away unexpectedly. They have it all. And there are bathroom facilities as well. And a huge pool. Braai area on your plot. And swings for the kids. They have managed to keep the grass green even through the water crisis. They use river water.

  • Rudi Hanekom

A well kept campsite located close enough to break away for a quick weekend. Facilities were very clean and well maintained and there's electricity on the sites. Showers and baths with hot water and and a nice big pool also adds to the spoils. With the site being approx 300m from the beach it's perfectly located for a quick stroll or to spend some time in the sun.

We've been going to ou Skip for over 20 years and it's never a disappointment. I have stayed in the Chalets, the self catering tents and now in my own caravan. It's nice and quiet and the ablution blocks were kept clean. There's a big pool. I wish it was heated but oh well. And the beach goes on forever. And Before I forget, it's good value for money.

  • Warren Zwick

I didn't actually go here to stay, although the place looked lovely to caravan. They had green stands, nice okay areas and a giant pool to swim in. The reason I went here was for their car wash. It was by far the best car wash ever, the attention to detail was brilliant and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Highly recommend the car wash!

  • Jeffrey Barrett

The chalets are small but clean and neat, well equipped. This is not a 5* venue but I thoroughly enjoyed my stay the people at reception were very helpful. I would recommend it to anybody who just wants a place to stay and in fact I am going to book in again when I go see my grand daughter who stays at Atlantic Golf beach estate..

  • Sheryl Hanger

We stayed in a cottage, it was clean and had the basics. A nice touch would be if the salt and pepper shakers actually had salt and pepper in them. I don't think guests staying for 1 or 2 nights will fill up the shakers. The laundry was great and I got two loads of washing done. It was only R15 (3 x new R5 coins) per load.

Great shower facilities. Bring own plugs for basins and baths. Good water pressure and very clean. Safe and quiet camping during the week out of season. Keep tent closed or you may find a chicken or rabbit inside going through your things when you turn your back lol

We had a nice first camping experience at Ou Skip. Facilities are old, but neat. Some tent campers were a bit noisy late at night until early morning hours, but in general it was a good camping experience. 5 Stars to the friendly office ladies at reception and the security guard who welcomed us upon arrival.

  • Monesha Samuels

This is beautiful if you enjoy camping and have a caravan, the chalets aren't the most ideal. All the people are friendly and you can take a stroll on the beach because it's so close to the restort. Only downfall, is that the pool is a bit of a distance depending which plot you book. Very relaxing as well.

We were told to go to a certain chalet and after we had unpacked we received a call to say that we were given the wrong chalet. This was very frustrating whereby we had to pack up again and fetch the key to the correct chalet. Very unprofessional. All that we got from the admin was sooorrry .disgusting

1-Security was not doing their job... Because they did not silence campers after 10pm... And allowed loud music up to 2.30am in the morning.... 2-toilet sanitizer was not working and not cleaned on the public holiday... 3-toilet paper was often not available... But otherwise a nice location to camp...

We arrived on the 25th Feb and it was so peaceful until the Friday when 3 spots of the tent side was like 40 people making noise drinking and singing I took my mother there to enjoy and rest after our father died but good not even sleep after 3 in the morning Very bad and it's the 4time visiting there

This place can do with more access to move to the pools by building bridges and also by having a lifeguard present and not forgetting better power points other than that the place is nice and tranquil the air the space is nice and easy so there is definitely lots of potential and room for improvement

The booking was quick and easy. This is a relatively inexpensive site to stay at and well maintained. I absolutely love it here and its a 5 min walk away from Melkbosstrand Beach area. It also has a pool and very close ablutions. You would not need the blue adaptors for the area we were camping in.

  • Thea Smit

Well kept and look after. The go to the beach you have to cross a tar road. But what a beautiful view with Tafelberg in the background. Wind can be very strong. Abution very neat and clean. Ample place for motorhome. Lovely blue sparkling pool and play park for kids with a little shop

  • Willem Le Roux

Better that the most camp/caravan sites along the west coast. Good security and friendly helpful service. Bathrooms and washing up facilities are kept clean and well maintained. The only big problem is the swimming pool, that is not well maintained and not cleaned regularly. #Caravan

  • Rinse Vlaswinkel

Ablution blocks were relatively clean but a bit dated, though some of the toilets didn't flush and some showers didn't have any hot water. There was also no toilet paper provided. Campsites themselves were okay, there is a place for the braai but you have to bring your own grid.

Its big. I had a permanent tent setup and it was comfortable. The site is well laid out and I had no problems except I had to wait to book out because people in front by the desk had an argument about payment. That took half an hour. I checked out in 30 seconds. illogical.

Great local clean pool and facilities. Lots of cover from the sun and plenty of places to setup a picnic. Enclosed nicely so you can let the kids run about carefree. Perfect place to finish up at after a few hours on the beach!

  • Colin

The Being in touch with Nature was a real time away from the hussle of the concrete Jungle. So close yet felt so far and the venue was quite surprisingly affordable. Definitely a Spot to get away quick to refresh the mind.

It very quiet perfect for relaxing outdoors. I was just passing through and it felt like i was 7 years old in my home town were i spent the 1st 10 years of my life. I felt like getting out and playing outside like s kid.

  • Tegan Lyons

Great Bush camp tented options, fully kitted and very comfortable. Easy living while still experiencing the outdoors, beautiful swimming pool, awesome greens and play area for kids. Staff are helpful and very welcoming

  • Quinten Wilson

Great place to bring your kids for a swim. The only place that takes me back 27 years ago when I was a kid. Little Shop that sells ice cream and take aways.... Absolutely winner in Melkbosstrand on a hot summers day

  • Beulah Frans

The place was very nice, but the people who were camping made lots of noise until early in the morning. If you go to the bathrooms after 6 in the morning there is only ice cold showers because of the solar heaters.

  • Robin Symes

Very disappointed, Caravan Stands very small, the Showers are in a state, Shower heads, The toilets are not always clean and my stay for a week there was 2 out of order, The Ablutions need seriously to be revamped

  • Maryla George

Great place. Very close to the beach. Friendly staff. Kids enjoyed every minute, will definitely go back

Beautiful place clean the staff are professional and friendly I will suggest this place always to anyone wanting to get away from the rush of life come here from a tranquil and relaxing time Out Skip keep it up

  • Chandre Splinters

Staff there is pathetic. Colour clearly matters there. Place and neighbour's very friendly but staff and facilities no care due to things. Toilets not kept clean on a daily no soap, no sanitizers in the toilet.

  • Riana Strydom

Great family camping resort, access to Melkbosstrand's beautiful views, close to Bloubergstrand and Cape Town. Take a trip from there to Yzerfontein and admire the view from the pier as well as the "fynbos".

  • CAROL JOY Roux

Lovely caravan park. Spent a day with family and friends but plenty to keep teenagers busy.... Swimming pool is spotless and surroundings are clean and safe. Would highly recommend spending a weekend there

  • MARKUS VAN HEERDEN

Nice for camping or a day to relax well maintained clean price reasonable friendly people clean showers and toilets nice camping areas safe and nice to be out in nature kids will love it. I like this place

  • Barry Ross

Would be nice if they could accomodate for one night stay overs for caravans but other then that very good , friendly staff , nice and peacefully. Car wash facility staff very friendly and good service .

  • saidou ousmanou

A very wonderful place to be I enjoy my self I can wait to go back there very nice people I also meet a couple from England who live in the caravan what a great experience …

  • Lené Olwagen

what a lovely campsite there is so much to do. its clean! the security staff is friendly theres a pick n pay shop not to far from there the ocean is a stone throw away. wow what an amazing break away!!!

  • Denise Kannemeyer

It was nice being there but i think they can put anithe kitchen cubourd in and more pots toilets are to far from the tent they can put that green toilets ouside each tent but futher on it was nice

  • Katharine Eve

The chalets are reasonable and have all the basic amenities. It's efficiently run and quiet during the week. The chalets look rather worn around the edges but that fits in with their price range.

  • Johayne Skippers

Nice place to break away from the hustle and bustle of the city for a few days. Needs a better TV package but the rest of the facilities are very good. Onsight shop, play park for the kids, etc.

  • Johan bekker

An absolute NO for 1 month camping The worst stands are offered with low security.Do not feel safe You are allowed visitors but at an astronomical amount.Ablusions are sub standard .Never again

  • Caroline Cruywagen

Had an amazing experience. Staff was friendly. Place was peaceful. Facilities is about average and the price is really affordable. I highly recommend this place and will definitely come again!

  • Bowen Slabber

Kids paradise. Clean and neat camping grounds. Also offer Clamping tents and chalets. Definitely one of our top camping destinations and not far to travel

One of my sons favorite spots to visit especially on a good sunny day. Best part is that the pool area is never over crowded. Would like to have something to do when the sun goes down tho'

  • Herman Rademeyer

It's a hidden gem.Nice olympic swimming pool.Camp sites have grass and saw about 15 different bird species in one morning.Car wash is a steal and the staff treated us like royalty.

  • Andre Katzke

Amazing setting. Lots of facilities to entertain the family. Love the swimming pool with trampoline, baby pools, volleyball net and mini put put. Fun in the sun right in the coast.

  • Wynand Gouws

This is a hidden Gem on the West Coast. Remember it is a Caravan park thus do not expect 5 STAR facilities. But for a afternoon out swimming with the kids and relaxing it is great.

  • Gerrie Jordaan

Love it we always come back its peace and quiet and the most friendliest place. We always come to ou skip just to relax and found ourselfs again. We recommend it to all our friends

  • Charlz Classen

Terrible Terrible experience I would not recommend this place if you have children. This is for old couples wanting to come and relax or backpackers looking for a bed to sleep....

  • Stephen Van Zyl

Had my kid and couple of his friends for a swim day. The area is clean and we'll maintained. Have to camp at the site or be a resident of Melkbosstrand to be able to swim there.
