The barista at the counter was the most unhappy person I’ve ever met. When my boyfriend was about to tell her the sugar and milk for his coffee, she interrupted and told him it was on the side. When I had asked about pastries, she didn’t follow up to see if I wanted one and tried to cash us out with just our drinks. Didn’t ask if I wanted my matcha sweetened. (Though the latter two points are purely customer service expectations and not mandatory). No “thank you”’s, smiles or any welcoming gestures the entire time we were here. The americano was very watered down. Since it was iced, the sugar didn’t melt so I feel like when getting a drink iced, they should help us put the sweeteners in. They basically pour a hot americano over ice but doing so melts almost all the ice, making it a very watered down americano. Though I usually like my matcha sweetened, their matcha is pleasantly not that bitter. However, my entire cup was filled with ice. The chocolate chip cookie was good but who can mess that up?

I came during summer for coffee in their patio and it was nice outside. The coffee they use is top shelf, the shade under the tree was pleasant. I had a good and quiet time catching up with a friend. I came back during winter at night for tea and brownie and everything was tasty, again the coffee shop part of this establishement seems to be what works for them. Because when tea time turned into happy hour with friends, the experience turned into something very different. Payed too much for mulled wine and white wine that were honestly just straight up flavourless. They tasted like cooking wine and the servers didn't seemed experienced enough to be of help in recommending anything from the drinking menu. For a random Tuesday night the place was LOUD, probably due to the fact that is a shoe box made of concrete, at some point we could't hear each other talk at all, so we had to leave somewhere else and it wasn't even 8pm yet. I may come back for a coffee again during the day, but a hard pass on drinks in the evening.

The bar is really lovely, great drinks, the bartender is very knowledgeable and approachable. My friends and i have been coming here for a long time, however, the manager (or supervisor?) made my friend group move twice. The first one with the excuse of clearing space around the bar to create a clear walkway towards the bathroom. This is a valid concern, so we moved to a table. He then came and said that as a group of three we could not take up a table four and made one of us take a patio chair. The problem lies in the fact he then allowed another group of men to sit in the exact place where we were. I politely asked him why they could sit there and we couldn’t. He could not answer me and was dismissive, asking if i was offended, and basically shrugged me off. Very disappointing! I am not one to make assumptions but in my gut i feel like he has something against women especially since he does not ask the same of men in the same situation. I will definitely not be coming back here

I made a visit to this cafe on Sat. May 19th at around 12:30. I just had to write this review because I have never been to such an uninviting and sour faced place in all my life. The counter server and barrista were the most two unpleasant persons I have come across. I mentioned to the counter person that the croissants were totally exposed on the counter and should be covered. I said it was unsanitary with people talking over them and possible sneezing and coughing on them. The counter person then contradicted me and said, “no this was not the case and it was not a problem”. I then waited at the end of the counter for my coffee order and I attempted small talk with the barrista who would not respond to me at all. There was not even a greeting of a hello when I arrived and definitely not a “thanks for coming” when I left. Do they think they are the only coffee establishment in Kensington Market. All I can say is never again. Why visit a place that treats you like dirt.

This is a very, very cute place in the Kensington Market part of Toronto. With three fun areas to enjoy: a courtyard out the back, indoor seating at a table or bar, or out door seating at the front. This is a popular place for study or work so many people working on laptops or socialising, so they do have some rules about where laptops can be used (not out the front and not after 7pm!). This is a place that serves a great selection of teas, also beers and coffee. I didn’t eat here, so I cannot comment on the quality of the food, but the Milk Oolong Tea went down as a treat with the lovely atmosphere (great music), and mood (romantic lighting and exotic plants in the courtyard (guava and olive I believe)). Helpful, friendly staff. Cash or Debt, just so you know.

One of the places that makes Kensington Market such popular destination. great vibes, good food and coffee and an impressive collection of cocktail ingredients. the place doubles as coffee and bar, so during the day you'll see lots of laptops, however they are strictly banned from 6pm weekdays and from 1pm on weekends (an excellent idea!). Staff if friendly and swift. the place is accessible (there is a wooden ramp at the entrance) but the washroom is in the basement (stairs). there is a sizeable front patio and much larger patio space in the back. Lots of daylight, and many tables (including a long "communal" one near the front). Very charming and unique decor, with an antique scale and old signage (maybe inherited from the previous owners?).

Ample, comfortable, and cozy seating both inside and outdoors. Standard but quality drinks during cafe hours, and delicious gin-based drinks (their specialty) during bar hours. Their short list of sandwiches is delicious when in stock/available, and their staff is kind, patient, and efficient, with quick service and good prices. And the wifi and outlet access is good to boot! I also really like that they have specific areas/times when laptops are not allowed, which encourages a gently social atmosphere even when many people are indeed working on their computers next to each other. Definitely my favorite go-to spot in Toronto!

  • Brian Taylor

I frequent this spot in the market infrequently, and wish I could visit more often. I love the no laptop rule they have on weekends, as it keeps the place lively and interesting. I saw a woman there today refuse to put her laptop away, after being asked to by the staff, and her response was ludicrous, calling the poor server racist, amongst other nasty remarks. Good job Pamenar, and to the young lady who had to put up with that rude customer, you're the best!

First, kudos to this place for being a cafe and being open late (LATE!) everyday. It’s so hard to find a good spot to hang out in at night unless it’s just drinks! So very happy Pamenar offers that. It’s got a great vibe and the service is very friendly. The coffee here is decent and the gin was quite interesting! I had the chai-infused gin cocktail. Will be back for the vibes, and for the patio! Hoping next time it’s not as loud.

  • Parham

I've been going to this place regularly since I believe 2011 when they opened and become number one on BlogTO. I like majority of the staff in particular the owner and totally understand his idea behind no laptop at certain hours. They support artists to by exhibiting their work and sometimes they have live shows too. Aside tartar which is best on Tuesday nights! We need more of this coffee/bar/multifunctional places in town :)

  • carolina capindo

This is not a study spot people, I repeat, THIS IS NOT A STUDY SPOT , I showed up with the intention of being productive and staying to study but ended up seeing a sign saying it’s a laptop free zone and leaving immediately lol, don’t come here looking for a study spot. edit*(mentioning this because it was the first place that came up when I googled "late night study spots near me" and other reviews mentioned studying here)

4.6. Love this cafe. Great space and amazing back patio to read/catch up with a friend/have coffee. The chai concentrate is made in house, also highly recommend the ice tea or breakfast cookie. Really nice atmosphere and friendly staff. They have lots of milk alternatives if needed

Café Pamenar is a really cute date spot. The patio feels like a cute little backyard with lots of greenery and lights. The drinks are decent (~$13 for a glass of wine) and they also serve coffee/warm drinks. The only thing I’d say is the coffee/warm drinks aren’t super consistent. My friend and I both got matcha lattes and although mine was good, hers barely had any matcha in it. Other than that, solid spot!

  • Alan Ng

A small local bar with nice atmosphere. Bartender is friendly and we tried the Sakanjebin Gin and other mix drinks on the menu. They are all good and would recommend. Giving a 3 stars because there were few drunk men hanging around the outside. Otherwise, a nice local bar to hang out with friends.

Such a great space. They have seating in-front, indoors (narrow hallway bar/cafe) and outside in the back probably has the most amount seating. I had their vegan beat root soup. Absolutely yummy! My friend has a coffee and coffee croissant which was super flaky. Overall pleasant stuff, lovely environment. Might be a little hard to find as the signage is minimal.

  • May Zhagro

Pamenar is a relaxing space ambiance to gather with friends, read a book, or do light computer work while enjoying a caffeinated beverage or juice. It has two patios (front & back) and drink and baked goods options. The front patio is a social zone with no laptops allowed. The space is long and narrow and there are plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors.

  • Cristian Arango

TORONTO, Easily the WORST service in town. Be prepared to be completely ignored by all the staff the minute you enter the place. Espresso is average (don't go there if you want a good espresso), and Chai late is watery and overpriced. Staff is unfriendly extremely close to the rudeness and impoliteness

The atmosphere is very friendly and cozy. Available seats are abundant and the interior design is fine. However, barista/bartenders are indifferent, coffee is not good and there is “No Tablet/laptop” policy enforced after 6:00/6:30 pm and it was specially enforce for me since I was just arriving. Anybody else with laptop tablet was left alone.

  • Lehel Babos

Came by because I saw they had a back patio. Planned to read but had to hop back on my laptop to attend to some things at work. Staff told me there are no laptops allowed. Pointed to a small sign on the counter. The place was not busy and I was not planning on staying for ages. Wish they had told me when I was ordering.

This is the spot. Fantastic location to work with decent WiFi (before 7PM and only in the back patio though). The iced latte and baked goods were great and the whole atmosphere was just lovely. A peaceful mixture of people doing work, reading and just casually chatting. This place is a must-try cafe in the heart of Kensington Market.

  • Maggie

the vibes are nice but seating is rough ! good luck getting a spot past 6 & hearing any conversation you’re having. the coffee tasted a bit burnt to me but i’m not a coffee expert so maybe i’m just too sensitive. also had an oatmeal raisin cookie which was delish but a tiny bit too sweet for my personal taste.

  • Kayla Ewing

Pamenar was an absolute gem to wonder into during an impromptu stop in Toronto. It’s got a welcoming atmosphere with a really cozy aesthetic. The two bartenders were very kind and there was a cool interactive musical performance in the backyard. Highly recommend trying their special gin drink!

  • Jenna Kaplan

Solid bar! It was super crowded so didn’t think we’d get a spot to sit but the universe worked in our favour and we managed to snag a table. The drinks were good, the vibes were right, and they had some cool music playing! Also only $13 for a double g&t so that’s pretty great!

  • Sara Sarfaraz

IMMACULATE VIBES! I went to Pamenar last night to celebrate my friend's birthday and I must say that the atmosphere was amazing. Everyone was having a good time and the music was irresistible and it almost compelled all of us to dance. I loved it!! More

  • Harriet Crofton

Really cute space with a great range of drinks. There's live music most evenings and it has a really homey feel. The back patio is surrounded by high walls and trees, so it really feels like a secret garden. Great place to spend an afternoon or evening!

  • Ankita Biswas

Coffee might not be so great but I loved the ambience. If you want to have drinks though, it is a lovely place to hang out. Very romantic setup with nice vibing music. They also have an amazing patio. Hanging out in the summers with definitely be fun

Was invited to come here and had an amazing experience! Books, games and live music. Had no idea what I was walking into. Loved everything about this place, small and intimate like all Kensington places! Absolutely amazing and so many drink options!

  • Ana M

One of the best cafe/bars in the city! Great prices and portions. The people who work here are also freaking awesome, I forgot my wallet there last night and they kept it for me. I had 300$ inside and everything is still here. Thank you a million ❤️

Will come back to try the cappuccino, had only the hojicha which was excellent but the house blend tea could’ve steeped much less as it got v bitter. Nanaimo bar delish. Academic scholarly tenured vibe.

Delightful ambience, lovely back patio and great staff behind the bar. They also have a chess board that we always end up using. Their beer selection is pretty decent and they do stock a good bottle of armagnac st a decent price per dram.

  • Pouya

One of the best cafes/bars in Toronto. It's super cozy with a nice vibe and friendly people. The back patio in summer is superb. It has an amazing collection of local beers and tons of options for gins! They occasionally have live music.

  • Alexandra OK

I love this place - summer to winter & on to patio weather again. Each seating space has its own mood whether you’re inside or outside. The walls of windows at the front & back bring natural light in grey winters, soothing breezes in

  • Ajinkya Korade

One of the coolest coffee shop in Toronto. Back patio is beautiful with apple trees in backyard feels cozy. I ordered a latte. Good artisanal coffee, fast service, best place to escape from the hustling city and relax.

  • Adam Blacklock

Great cafe to hide in winter and a secluded patio out back in the summer. Fresh pastries and small dishes available, the coffee is on par with most everything else in the market but the cozy vibe keeps me coming back

  • gira asadinik

A must try in the neighbourhood! Lots of cocktail options, very creative and diverse. The patio has a special vibe, whether you join the crowd for a drink or attending their live music events, its full of life.

Went there with a friend for the first time and we were lucky that they had a fire at their backyard. Great group of people and the server was super nice. Love the environment and would definitely go back.

  • Romina Dehghani

One of my favourite places for cocktails, i love how gin is their base alcohol. They cocktails have special spices and they are just amazing. Friendly staff and two great outdoors patios. …

  • lya k

Awesome place with a wonderful little green patio at the back, they serve delicious coffee. The only complaint would be there's no coffee after 8, not even decaf. Otherwise we keep coming back!

  • Ana Gonzalez

Really nice place with a lovely patio. The barista makes grate coffee with amazing drawings. Perfect for a coffee with a friend or just to sit and read a book. Good pastries and a good service.

  • Bahar DV

We didn’t have a very good experience with different types of tea, they all tasted like warm water. But the atmosphere is good and maybe we should try them for their drinks or something else.

  • Aisha

Had an americano and ginger molasses cookie which were both alright. It would have been nice to see better seating options but with warming weather soon the back patio will be an option.

  • Parnian

I love the place! The staff are very nice and friendly and the coffee is great, they have nice pastries and it's a great place for both working on your own or enjoying with a friend.

Great ambiance, good selection of coffee , pastries, drinks , etc . It’s better to have cash on you as they don’t accept credit cards. It worth the extra hassle . Trust me !

Out of all the cafes I've been to in the city Pamenar pulls the best espresso. Great depth of flavour, high quality beans, never bitter, and always with a great crema.

  • Hadi J

Great steeped tea here. Though I didn't like chai latte. It was too cold! They had a great ambiance, but it seems that there are constructions going on in their patio.
