Would give it 5 if it wasn't for my experience at the restaurant. The only way to enter inside the nice old building was to get a reservation at the restaurant. This includes if you want to take a 5 min pictures. However, you can enter the park and view the lovely caves, bridges, trees, exotic fruits (large jackfruit) and nice trails. Not enough benches, not enough washrooms for such a large place. If you are in a large group your experience will be better than me (restaurant will earn more on 2 or more heads). I lost 1hr to wait in line to receive a watsup message that will inform me when to enter. The lady told me 15-30min. A single lady was complaining she was not called and I feel she waited over 1.5 hrs. There was only shades to the worker (only 1 they can hire 2 or make the process way easier). I walked around for 3.5 hrs and no message. The lady apologized but did not offer me to enter as she did for the Brazilian women who complained. Anyways, if you are alone, don't bother supporting this business who doesn't respect its clients. Meals are expensive but I guess you can buy water for 9 reals. Just walk around the park and hope the greedy owners of the restaurent think of their single tourist and improve the ticket process and offer some decent shade for the 1hr wait.

Parque Lage, also known as Parque Enrique Lage, is a public park and cultural centre located in the Jardim Botânico neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Parque Lage is renowned for its lush greenery, walking trails, and beautiful gardens. It is set against the backdrop of the Corcovado mountain, home to the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue. At the heart of the park lies the Lage Mansion (Palacete do Lage), a historic building dating back to the 1920s. The mansion's architecture is striking, and it now houses the Escola de Artes Visuais (School of Visual Arts), offering art courses and exhibitions. Visitors can explore the park and its gardens for free. It's a popular spot for both locals and tourists to relax, picnic, or take leisurely walks. The park offers several trails that lead to the nearby Corcovado mountain. One of the trails provides access to the Christ the Redeemer statue, making it a starting point for those who want to hike to the top. Overall, Parque Lage is not only a beautiful natural oasis but also a thriving cultural centre that combines nature, art, and history, making it a must-visit destination in Rio de Janeiro.

The entrance is free, but you have to reserve a spot to get in days before. You can get there and say that you’re going to the restaurant and they place you on a waiting list for about 40 min. While you wait you can take pictures from the outside, it’s gorgeous and it allows you to take pictures from different angles of the mansion. Once you get in they lead you to the restaurant where you get to eat in the courtyard of the mansion. It’s very beautiful, but it can get hot. They don’t have any fans or anything to keep it cool, just umbrellas to sit under while you eat or drink something. My friend and I ordered the smoked salmon and and hamburger, but the meal was very underwhelming. It didn’t have a good flavor, the fries and bread were kind of stiff. It’s expensive and the food was bland. Wouldn’t recommend eating, just drink something so you can get in and then take the pictures. There is an exclusive terrace that you can access by paying something extra.

We did not drive here we took an Uber. I'm not sure about the parking situation here. Beautiful place, free to come in and theres a lot to see here. it is a state park and has old houses that are used as art gallery, you also have plenty of older castle like constructions, caves and pretty natural bridges all over the park. it is a nice and peaceful place in the city. We saw monkeys jumping around the trees and walking at the roof of the buildings it was pretty great to be Able to see that. After all the waling we tried to go to the cafe place located inside the park, the experience sadly was not super great and I did a separate review about it, the car is called PLAGE. The park itself is pretty nice, as for the cafe make sure to read the other review before you visit them.

Came to see personally where Snoop Dog filmed one if his Music Videos, was on the peak of Carnaval when all people in Rio are. Came there, were not allowed to get in, they only allowed 100 People inside. Staff told us to scan a QR Code that didnt work, then showed us a Site that has in 2 days availability. Waited maybe a miracle happens, at the side was another staff writing down names to get into the Restaurant, gave our names waited almost an hour and then we were allowed to enter, got a Table exactly beside the Pool. We then wanted to explore the Place, next catch you are not allowed to go up without buying a 10Real Worth from the Souvenir Shop. The place was great you even have a view of Cristo, but spent almost the whole day just to be inside, was it worth it? Yes

This is the perfect place to stroll around on your last day in Rio, or first day. It’s not far from Copacabana and it’s right by the Lagoa. It is also where you can start the hike for Corcovado and Redeemer! The trees are great on hot days and providing some shade and there are lots of trails to explore along with places to sit and have a nice relaxing lunch. The palecete was quite crowded, but we also arrived only a few days after Christmas. The views were stunning though with redeemer in the background and on a clear day you can see everything. There is also a little cafe in there where you can get a drink and cool off. Overall, the park is perfect for a stroll or a hike. I even saw a little pudu running around! Highlight of my day.

  • Karol Gawrych

Parque Lage is absolutely stunning and will take your breath away upon the gradual approach to the main entrance. The inside is gorgeous and the views of Christ the redeemer on a clear day are unique. There is a cafe where you can enjoy a nice cup of coffee and forget about your troubles; perhaps even take a moment to pretend you’re in a colonial era & living like royalty. But, do not grow complacent simply walking around the immediate vicinity. The Parque is large & has many tangential trails you can walk, disappearing into a portion of the Atlantic Rainforest. Entering the tranquility of the rainforest is refreshing, especially in the middle of a city like Rio. Best of all, it is completely safe! A must do when visiting.

A very nicely arranged park, with nice greenery, a piece of history and additional attractions. It's free! In the park you will find a Palace with a garden and a coffeehouse, the ruins of a castle tower, an artificial grotto, a building with aquariums, a pond, a playground for children, and there is also an entrance to the hiking trail to the top of Corcovado. Each of these places has received or will soon receive a separate review with photos. In my opinion, it's worth planning a few hours here. The most difficult to get to the palace, you need a ticket, which is free, but there is a limited number of visitors. Palacete + Plage Café Torre do castelinho / Ruínas Grutas Aquário Lago das Fadas Trilha Parque Lage - Corcovado

  • Dayana Alonso

It's an amazing park, free entrance, and they've worked hard on making it as accessible as possible on the outside for people on wheelchair. If anyone been inside the building on wheelchair please chair how you did it. Go early as the queues are massive after 12. Beautiful and green places. Perfect for great pic, remember there wildlife there too - monkeys :) The cave was awesome. Make sure you don't slip! Rocks gets super slippery.
Playground
This is a huge playground, just don't loose your kid in the jungle lol
Restrooms
Clean and is inside the building.
Picnic area
Great spots, bring a blanket and do NOT feed the monkeys

I've been to Rio many times, but this is the first time I visited Parque Lage. I'm glad I did! Most will recognize this place from the Snoop Dog and Pharell video, Beautiful. It really is beautiful! It's a lovely place to visit to get away from the craziness of Rio. It's well maintained and just a lovely place to go for a walk. There are several walking trails with breathtaking views of trees that are more than a 100 years old. You'll also see eyes of tropical wildlife: birds, monkeys, marmosets, and cotias. There is a beautiful cafe that is very Instagram-worthy, as it is delicious. Also another must for your trip to Rio de Janeiro!

Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro is a hidden gem that exceeded our expectations. This sprawling park offers a perfect blend of nature and art, with its historic mansion, lush gardens, and inspiring sculptures. My visit with my sister was a delightful experience—strolling through the winding paths, discovering hidden corners, and enjoying the serene atmosphere. The park's tranquil ambiance, coupled with the occasional sounds of tropical birds, creates a peaceful retreat within the bustling city. Whether you're an art lover, nature enthusiast, or someone looking for a relaxing escape, Parque Lage is a must-visit destination in Rio.

  • Jerry Lee Dormido

I visited Parque Lage on March 2021. Travelers during that year were few so I was lucky that the place wasn't heavily crowded. I took Uber from my Airbnb in Copa to the Park to make it easier for me. It was quite a nice Park. Nothing too extravagant to see but I still enjoyed it. I love taking photos of couples spending nice time together. Afterward, I show it to them and they love the photos. I would send them the photos. Great way to make friends. There's a nice small trek inside the Park. Nothing fancy. Still enjoyed it. I love the quietness of it. I take all photos myself, even my selfie! Check out my IG- @jl.dormido

Parque Lage is a beautiful public park that is free of charge! There is an old structure with a courtyard that has a pool and a cafe. There are numerous paths and trails that take you through the beautiful gardens and up the base of the mountain that leads to Christ the Redeemer. There is also a duck pond, a few caves and old structures. After hiking a bit, you will reach the guardhouse which is the bottom of the hiking trail up to Christ the Redeemer. Here you need to give your basic ID information to the guards so that they are aware of who is on the trail before beginning your hike upward. Definitely recommend!

  • Luis Daniel Ybarnegaray

The architecture and some views are great. Nevertheless, the lady at the Palace's front door will speak unclearly and will try to decrease your expectations to get inside. The line for the Plage restaurant inside is long and the waiting time of over 1 hour. The reservation website to visit the Palace without eating there does not work well (almost like does not work) bc is slow and not friendly to find available dates. The place and the palace needs maintenance and to be cleaned. Plus, if it is a hot day...you will MELT
Restrooms
Almost not existent. And badly maintained

  • Moises Gomez

Before coming!!! - If you want to go inside the building (Palacio) you will need a reservation prior arriving. I suggest you do it online. - you can enter the building without a tour/reversation by eating at the restaurant. There will be a line on the side of the door and they will call you inside once there is a table for you. Inside of the restaurant there are restrooms. You can also explore the park on your own. There are a couple of short hikes/ viewpoints indfe if the parque.
Restrooms
There are bathroom at the entrance of the park and also inside of the Palacio.

  • Sérgio Rossini

The park is like a sample of Atlantic nature in the middle of the city. From here you can access the hiking trail to the Christ the Redeemer (4,4 km). Inside the park area there is the famous building, place of Visual Arts School (EAV) - to enter you need to get the tickets a couple of days before. The garden is beautiful and worths the visit. The building, not so much: the internal space is mainly occupied by the cafe (overpriced, overrated, crowded with long lines of waiting).

  • Claus Schuh

This is probably one of my most favorite places in Rio, you deep totally refreshed after being in this Parc, your eyes will thank you for the beauty this place offers to the one who sees. I could come here every week and still would fall in Love every time, simply amazing, and the Cafe also offers great food!! The school of belas artes is located here as well so you can have a glance at the great work of the students Here. Recommend to anyone spending the days in Rio

  • Herlen Mota

I always saw people on Instagram going to this garden and always wanted to go. Took a trip to Brazil and came to visit it and honestly the pictures don’t even do the park justice. I went on a cloudy and rainy day and the view was beautiful !!!! It has a few parks, a lot of trees and a huge fountain. I didn’t get a chance to go through the entire park but as per the map they have a few waterfalls. Would def love to come back and spend an entire day exploring

  • Asif Malik (Asif K Malik)

An incredible mansion and park. Very scenic. One should spend a few hours here and get pictures taken at all the right spots such as the pool and outside the mansion on the stairs. The amount of biological diversity is certainly lesser than botanical gardens but the building makes up for it to a great extent. You need to book a ticket in advance which is for free. It will not be available for a few days as we found. Taxis are available quickly outside.

  • Laura Serna

This place is amazing. You can enjoy all the natural places it has while also enjoying from the art and architecture you can find in the school of arts. It also has a nice coffee shop with good food but it is often really crowded. You can even have a nice view of Christ the redentor from the school. There are so many trails to go hiking and on the way you can find a lot of monkeys, insects, all kinds of plants, fruits and birds.

  • Brock Simon

We went to Parque Lage to enter the hiking trail to Christ the Redeemer. The kids enjoyed this park a lot so we spent time playing here. The caves were especially interesting to see and explore. The trail head was easy to find and needed to give passport information but didn’t need to show any documents. You do need cash to pay for entry to Christ the Redeemer. We were able to pay in USD but that may have been an exception.

  • Joice Lamego

It is a free and gorgeous park to visit in Rio. There is a huge garden with a fountain outside of the beautiful antique mansion where is located the school of art. The patio is free for visiting and the coffee shop there serves an amazing traditional Brazilian breakfast. The patio is just the perfect spot to take a photo as you can frame the pool and the Christ the Redeemer statue in the same photo.

  • Gabe Kagan

Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro is a stunning place with breathtaking beauty. The lush greenery and architectural charm create a captivating atmosphere. The brunch served was delicious, adding to the experience. However, the wait time to enter the premises can be unreasonably long, which may dampen the overall enjoyment. Patience is required, but the enchanting surroundings make it worth the wait.

  • Ruben Peraza

The building and the park is amazing. You can walk and enjoy the nature here. In the building you can take an iconic picture including the blue pool and the Christ in the background (long lines for having your chance) It is recommended to get there early if you want also eat something there. Do not forget to get access to the rooftop for getting a wonderful view and take some pictures.

  • Galadriel Gonzalez

Beautiful place! It's like being in a postcard. I went in the afternoon and it was very calm, not overcrowded at all. The tarte tatin at the café was one of the best I've had, the perfect amount of sweetness and not overly buttery and heavy. The benches in the gardens are a great place to relax but don't forget to wear insect repellent because there are tons of mosquitos!

  • Arno van der Heide

More than I expected. The main building is the attraction that brings most people to the park but there was a long line when we wanted to go in. Behind the main building is a pathway up that leads to a very nice waterfall amongst other things to see. The park itself is free and very nice to take a walk. I actually prefered this park over the botanical garden.

  • Henry Montalto

This place is free and great. I like to come on off days, DURNING the early morning with a bike. Have a picnic or drink some wine. They have an overpriced restaurant but it's better to bring a snack. The trail to go to Christ starts in this park. You can access by heading to the waterfall, follow the signs. Very peaceful place and great for kids!!

  • Rahul Prasad

The views are beautiful and the park is nice but it gets crowded pretty quickly. Also, there are lines of people waiting to get the perfect Instagram picture. We just went to the side and took a pic instead. TIP: make sure you book a time slot on their website or you won't be able to get into the palace area. This is free, do not pay for it!

  • Richard

Went here for brunch. The best part is the castle and great photo opportunities. The breakfast was ok. We ordered the combo. I had the salmon dish. The produce used wasn't fresh and was most apperent by the wilting of my spinach. The servers were friendly and helpful with ordering! Recommend going for the the atmosphere.

  • Matthew C. Newton

Beautiful park close to Ipanema with a mansion and manmade caves. The mansion requires reservations in advance in order to view. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to visit the park as a tourist but if you are in the area, it is a nice stop.
Restrooms
Clean restrooms right at the entrance.

  • Courtnie Clemens

Amazing cafe inside a botanical garden with monkeys hanging around. Make reservations online in advance or you won’t be able to get inside, please be aware that many influencers line up to take photos at the entrance to the cafe with the iconic view of Christ the Redeemer statue in the background.

  • João Carmo

One of the most beautiful marvels in Rio de Janeiro. Make sure you book in advance or you'll have to go through the restaurant. The building is magnificent, the gardens wonderful to wander about, and the background absolutely astonishing. Can't recommend enough. There's also a hidden aquarium!

  • Steve Ricks

A beautiful place to visit! FYI, you have to make reservation to enter. If you don't donit beforehand, you will have to do so by scanning the QR code at the entrance. Hence, it took 1.5 hours to get in. Also, to get access to the balcony level, you need to make any purchase from the gift shop.

  • Dominique Jones

Loves the food so much we went back twice. I wish their system for entry was a bit smoother though. It's definitely worth the wait. The fresh toast, smoked salmon amd eggs and rustic potatoes are delights. I could eat those potatoes all day. The Manager is super cool too and staff are great.

  • Nana Crawford

Great place, but it's super busy. You need to make sure you book a time slot during busy periods, and you will need to queue to take a photo. If you want to go to the top for photos, you'll need to buy something in the gift shop.
Restrooms
They have these, and they are clean.

  • Luca Bravo (Breiv7)

Christ visible from the palace. The park is stunning, it was a royal residence and you can see it from the luxury hambient! The palace itself is great on the inside, you can see the throne room. There's also a shop, but the best place is the brunch place by the pool :)

  • Yanira Ayala G

Beautiful garden, great architecture, I expected a place like the pictures, but in the main patio there is a restaurant, tables and stuff ( they didn't bring the right food I ordered, not nice). ZX acá big trees and monkies, small acuario, but they need to clean it.

  • Alton David Mullinax

Great place to either: 1. Spend a couple hours walking around seeing the park or 2. Take the hiking trail to Christ the Redeemer, this takes more time and you have to pay an entry fee at Christo Redentur. Very beautiful park and you should do both on different days.

  • Bruno S.

What a beautiful place! Amazing architecture with a very green tropical forest around it. There is also a nice cafe serving food and drinks. On a clear day you can see the Christ from there. But even if you can't see it, the visit still worth it. Highly recommend.

  • Producer Review Podcast

Nice visit here. Not too many people. Be sure to get a ticket online of you want to go inside and take pictures. Other than that, they were only letting people in to go to the restaurant. You need a reservation so your name can be called for the restaurant.

  • Andrew Wyatt

Despite being in the middle of the city, Parque Lage is surprisingly natural. Yes, there are paved trails, but the vegetation is not overly managed and is seemingly a vestige of the original Atlantic Coastal Forest that used to cover much of Brazil's coast

  • Elizabeth Verdugo

Such a beautifuk park that we even saw a colorful bird, I loved it!. There is a coffee shop inside the main building however we decided to have a picnic in the park, we could take our food from home to enjoy with the view and the silent of the place.

  • Victoria Domingos

Great park with beautiful hikes into floresta da Tijuca. They’re quite physically demanding so I recommend bringing lots of water, active wear and ideally having a good fitness level. The cafe at the little palace is lovely if a little overpriced.

  • Isadora Rodrigues

What a beautiful place, in a stunning location. Watch monkeys jumping from tree to tree, sit by the restaurant and enjoy a delicious profiterole with coffee and feel relaxed after being exposed to the good vibes this place offers.

  • Christian Alexandre Kramer

Another iconic place in Rio, directly underneath the Corcovado statue mountain. It wasn't too crowded at this time, but there was a line of photographers and models who wanted the perfect shot for their Instagram and Facebook.

  • André Campos Reyes

Is a nice place to visit but in sure there are a lot of better places in Rio. The main attraction is a restaurant (overpriced) and an specific spot to take a photo, in which you have to make a queue.

  • Robin Dowling

Beautiful park with a great variety of plants and trees, almost like a botanical green. Stunning views of the Jesus statue above, as well as cute monkeys in the trees. Um, there are caves as well.

  • Mariana Teixeira Custodio

Nice place, outdoor. If you are looking for a place in the nature in the middle of Rio, you've found it. Lots of monkeys, definitely try the terrace!
Restrooms
Nice restrooms

  • Brinn Garcia-Mcghee

Well maintained and utterly beautiful. The only eye sore: the people lined up to get their Instagram shots. I know pictures are a big deal but I’ve never seen anything like it

  • John Casey

Beautiful place with a nostalgic museum. I came here to start my climb up to Christ the Redeemer monument. What an amazing climb it was too!! I would definitely recommend it!!

  • JP Bray

Very crowded and it is a bit chaotic trying to order and then get the food. Overall the view is beautiful and still deserves a 4 star. We had the egg Benedict (yes 1 not 2)

  • Lee Burden

Stunning... and all free to visit. Includes a rain forest. Famous place. Music videos by. Snoop dog pharrell Williams and Michael Jackson. A must see. For free

  • Sasha Lekach

Beautiful space but long wait for average food. But the setting is worth it, even in the heat. Just plan accordingly and explore the park while you wait!

  • Amr Chahine

Nice park but the palace is overrated, It's not worth the time waiting. Couldn't get to the top floor. The park is 4 stars while the palace is 2 stars.

  • Leonard

Beautiful park with visible history. There is a palace with a restaurant. Also a hiking trail, aquarium, small waterfalls, and some art galleries.

  • Eugenio Ruta

I love this place, make sure you reserve it beforehand. Food and atmosphere is amazing. If the day is cloud free you’ll manage to see the Christ

  • SaRay Mt

Amazing place to walk. We can see many people taking professional photos. The history there is interesting so looking for this in internet.

  • Fernando Ono

The nature here is astonishing. It is a place to escape the urban city. The building is old but preserved. There is a coffee place inside.

  • Mirian Rios

You have to schedule before visiting and the place is very beautiful but very poorly maintained. The food was plain and very expensive.

  • Jacob Scarlett

Amazing place to relax. You can also hike to Christ the redeemer starting in this location. Monkeys are around if you look closely

  • Robert Farrugia

Nice place to visit with some temporary exhibits. Too bad the gardens are not very we kept. Could really afford some maintenance.

  • Francisco Minondo

If you are visiting Rio, you should visit this place! The nature, the pass walks and for sure the most important the cafe!

  • Gideon Grace

Beautiful place with a great cafe for brunch. Views of christ the redeemer and nice gardens to walk around on a hot day.

Definitely visit here! There are wild monkeys here and the park is peaceful with caves and waterfalls and ponds
