My name is Kristy Melendez. I work at Robins K-8 School and before I worked here I was PTO president for 2 years and then became the Community Liaison. I have worked with 4 other “holiday shop” companies. Penguin Patch is by far the best. So when Kandice called me and asked me to share my experience with you, I was more than happy to do so. I don’t know if you have worked with other companies before so I will just tell you the reasons why I love Jenny’s Penguin Patch. To start the owner of the company was a PTO member for many years so she knows what it is like to be in our position. Therefore they are the easiest and most helpful company to work with. They do not make you count inventory EVER! Not on the way in or out. This saves tons and tons of time for you and your volunteers. Not to mention stress of getting all the numbers right. Jenny’s has a price code on all their items. That was when your students come to check out the volunteer working the checkout does not have to try to figure out how much it is. Other companies do not do this. You have to have the students keep a list of what they are going to purchase and bring the written list along with the items to the check out. What a mess! Let me tell you it was SO hard to do it that way. Jenny’s also sends you price cards to place by the items and posters of the price codes to make it easier for students to know how much things are. Jenny’s sends you a folder with step by step instructions and even a timeline to help you make sure you have everything done when it needs to be. In it there are even template letters to send home to get volunteers! We got lots of help from parents by sending that letter. Other companies do not do these things. Another thing I really liked is they sent us an extra box of merchandise that we placed in a closet room that students who could not afford to shop could pick some items from. Love that! Again other companies do not do this. Then to top it all off at the end of your shop you go on their website and input the money you collected and it does all the math for you. Tells you how much to send in. You box up the remaining inventory and send them a check. Other companies require you to count inventory, send back damaged items, and calculate bill yourself! Jenny’s is always checking in with you before, during, and after to see if you need help. They have awesome customer service and that is very important when you are trying to run such a big event.

My daughter spent $20 on $3 worth of tiny junk toys. The items were likened to tiny cheap child party goody bag toys. I was very disappointed at the quality of these items. I understand that the shop is meant to be a fun inexpensive way for the little ones to purchase items for their family and friends and that it is also a school fundraiser, but my goodness, the poor things are being ripped-off. The items are literally worth pennies on the dollar and the kids are sent home with little plastic toy pieces no bigger than the palm of their hand. Plus they do not even give receipts to show what the child purchased and how much it costed... as far as I know, $5 worth of items could have been purchased, while the other $15 pocketed by someone. This holiday shop could offer better items for the money spent and proof of purchase with any change sent home with child. The merchandise selected specifically for moms, dads, siblings, etc... are tiny trinket toy quality. A child can do better shopping for 4 people at Walmart for $20. I will keep the items to save from the hassle of trying to go through the school PTA to return the items for a refund. However, I will surely know better next time. You live and learn. Beware if you ever receive a Penguin Patch Shop flyer from your little one's school.

We just finished out Penguin Patch. I was extremely disappointed in the items we had to sell. Lots of damaged and broken items. The mark up was terrible and we only made 10% of the sales. I highly suggest going with a different company if you elect to do something like this. It is for the kids, and they are very excited to buy their friends and family gifts. They beam with pride and so much thought goes into it when they are choosing their items. It was great to take them around and help them shop. I would suggest buying things on your own and then marking them up. For example, some of the items available were spider rings and tattoos for a quarter. None of the items were worth the money they were charging. It was unfortunate. Even the things my daughter bought broke right away. I have read some of these reviews, the ones that review from Texas have good reviews. That is where Penguin Patch is based out of. We are in WA state. So if we are unhappy with our items we have are so far away it really doesn't matter - we couldn't go there to complain anyway.

The kids are SO excited to shop every year, and it's a great learning experience for them as well because for some, it's the first time they learn about budgeting, saving, and making change. The staff is very helpful, and somehow they get the next day's merchandise to us on time, every time. ** Update ** After about 5 or 6 years of the PP Shop, one of our parents complained to our district that it wasn't fair to students who couldn't afford to shop. PP does provide some free merchandise, but it's not enough for all the students who can't afford to shop, so we were told by our district that we couldn't do it anymore. When we told the PP people, they were Not understanding, and said that they would charge us $500 for breach of contract. We kept getting nasty phone calls from them over the next few weeks. They were not nice or polite at all. Our PTO would NOT recommend going into business with them. Hiawatha Elementary School, Hiawatha, Iowa

I sent my son to school with $36 for items. He came back with a few tiny plastic toys/ plastic wallet worth no more then $5 total and a couple pieces of starburst candy. No names on the 2 miniature little paper bags. There was a zip lock bag that said $4.68 and sadly there was only 8 pennies in the bag. They use parents and volunteers so you worry about them being honest with little kids. Heartbreaking is an understatement. I was upset because I don't know what happened to his $4 and the products purchased were worth no more then $5. The items were not worth $36 !! He picked toys for himself but he is a K student with developmental delays so he is more like 3. Do they not help kids pick gifts?? This being said I rate my son's teacher highly since I messaged her about this experience and she took my son down there and gave him money to pick gifts (my assumption) I have to message her. We didn't expect this at all. It was very sweet.

I really did like the idea of the penguin patch, but was extremely disappointed with the products being sold! I was working the sale the first and second day. By day two we had many returns due to broken items. I also had a hard time helping the kids find something for their family worth buying! I sent all 3 of my kids to school with $30 each thinking that was a good amount for them to buy for 6 people. Well, they each came home with the money all spent For example, one of my kids bought a cheap grandpa keychain, a grandma ornament, a plastic ring, squishy egg, a plastic wallet and a broken bobble head dog. I would have to say out of the $90 spent, the gifts were maybe worth $15-$20. I'm sure I could have taken them to the Dollar Tree and they would have had just as much fun shopping. spent much less on better quality products and wouldn't have been upset because of cheap broken gifts! I hope our district rethinks using them again!

Do NOT work for this company for staters, I was fired for grabbing my contact solution when I told them I was grabbing it. They are a sweatshop, you don't get a lunch or a break. Only 3-5 minute's to grab an apple or peanuts. They don't supply water. They are all related in some way. Another lady was fired for asking a question regarding boxes. The owner said fire her before she becomes confrontational. The items aren't worth what any parent pays for. Maybe, at one time it was a good company but now it's only a sweatshop. They had a child (19) doing community service said he wasn't allowed the food they offered us because he wasn't an actual employee. They literally denied the child food. I'd be aware with this company. There is some great employees and office people. But the company needs be managed better!! Just overall a ridiculous place. Best of wishes to all who order who or shall work for them!

  • Kara Serroque

I am very disappointed in the quality of the items for the price points, I like that this company is supposedly doing good, however the items my kids received were basically junk, less than dollar store quality. I sent them with $30 total, and they were able to buy 2 containers of slime, 1 fake ring, think coin machine quality, one cheap fridge magnet, a small pair of cheap earrings, and a toy soldier, ridiculous, this is advertised as a way to buy a gift for a loved one and gives price points but no indicator of what type of gifts they will receive, it is a big rip off for hard earned money, and there is no receipt to show how much each item was or how much of your money is going to the school v the company; you would be better going to the dollar store and purchasing a gift with your child, I am very disappointed.

  • Allison Bastos

Our elementary school has used this company for 3 years now. I helped work the shoppe the first year & saw first hand how dis-proportionate the prices are to the quality of the items. The items are cheap (think dollar store)& way over priced. We participate every year to support the school, but from what I have been told they do not make much money off of it. The letter brags that the majority of items are between $1-$4, but my daughter has trouble finding anything in that price range every year. Today she bought a yellow car eraser, about an inch long for $4.50 & a poorly constructed glass led rose in a dome for $10.00. It is terrible how these kids are being taken advantage of. I sent her with $20 to buy for 5 people, she bought for 3. I appreciate the thought she put behind picking out the items, but come on!

Over at the Fort Gibson Early Learning Center in Oklahoma, we have had the Penguin Patch Christmas Store for the last two years. They have both been very successful years and have seen increasing interest from the children each year. They actually ask when we will hold the next Penguin Patch. This is a way for our PTO to fundraise without sending the kids door-to-door or accosting their extended family members for money. The Penguin Patch has provided us a low-stress, easy to use way to collect money for our school, and it allows our children to shop for a gift for their loved ones and have a surprise under the tree for them on Christmas morning. It's a Win-Win situation and we will continue to bring the Penguin Patch to our school every year! Catherine Hardy Fort Gibson ELC PTO President

  • Ashley Taylor

My daughter just came home from her school and let me tell you.... My daughter had saved up her money to buy her grandparents a gift and also her aunts! She went to school with $40 and when she came back she had only bought 5 gifts!!! Cheap looking gifts at that a little Asian open fan that you can buy in a pack of 8 on Amazon for $2 she bought only 1 and spent $4 on it which is beyond disappointing! If they were going to advertise that everything was mostly $5 and up I would have just took her to a store to my the gifts!!!!! They are robbing little kids!!!! And I will be going to her school to get my daughters money back!!!!! The PTA has to do better research on deciding who will come to the kids school!!! I mean COME ON!!! I will never do this again!!!!

  • Amber

Penguin Patch refuses to take no for an answer. They continue to solicit for our business when we have told them regularly and adamantly that we are not interested. Today a rep called and lied about receiving a request for information from our new President in order to get her unpublished contact information. Last year they continued to call and pester our very busy school Secretaries and after a lengthy and heated conversation with a supervisor, she continued to try and sell their services after I had made myself clear that we wanted no contact from them. This company seems to have little to no business ethics when it comes to solicitations and the respect of PTA/PTO management structures.

  • Kelly Castleman-Staley

The Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe is a great program. They send you EVERYTHING necessary to get up and running. It's such a fabulous opportunity for the kids to feel big while they shop for friends and family. When they hand out their presents it is such a nice moment for them instead of having their name attached to a gift they didn't get to pick out. For a small amount of money they can get everyone something. You can work this like a fundraiser, but we keep to the minimum mark so all the kids can have a great experience in our somewhat lower income district. Love those little smiles!! The staff are very helpful and restock is easy peasy too. Thomas Elementary Carbondale,IL

Hated it is kind of strong. I disliked it. My daughter was excited to buy gifts for her father, mother, and brother until they were opened and the gifts did not work. This of course broke my daughters heart. The mood keychain ring for my wife did not work, and the car for her brother was broken which broke his heart. The only item which was not broken was an ornament for me. Each of these items cost 5 dollars and were probably only worth 5 cents. I get the idea for fund raising, but this is definitely something that we will not participate in again and I urge others not to as well. Just donate the money directly to the PTA and spare your children the tears!!!

  • Erin Earley

I'm surprised to read some of these recent reviews because we had an overwhelmingly fantastic experience and are enthusiastically singing on again. The online cash register was amazing. An actual human being answers the phone when you call - what a treat to get that in this day. I didn't think the prices were unrealistic, it's a holiday shop meant to be a fun experience for the kids. We had a nice range in gifts and didn't sell out, so the kids who went last didn't get whatever was leftover. My only feedback would be that we did not have any Hanukkah gifts, I would like to see that next year. Thank you for the great experience!

  • Cassie Sanchez

Don't work with this company. If you have a different board on the school you're at and they switch PTA presidents, they will still charge you $500 to back out of the contract that you didn't even sign nor could you find a copy of anywhere in your school's email. Very disappointed in this policy, very poor customer service. Truly a disservice to small school's, operating on a shoe string budget. I offered to send back the one box they sent me and they refused to even want the order forms back, so now I have all the wasted order forms. DO NOT DO BUSINESS with them!

  • Sofia V

2021 is the second year that I have chaired the Penguin Patch Holiday Shop for St. Nicholas of Tolentine School in Chicago, IL. I must say that this company is so easy to work with! All of the reps that I have interacted with are so nice and knowledgeable, they do everything to help you have a successful fundraising shop! The gifts they offer for the shop are perfect for our grade school students and are very reasonably priced! Our students love the shop and look forward to it every year. We are already signed up for this coming year!

  • Cindy Heimos

This shop is a joke. It is advertised as a fundraiser. The only one making money is Penguin Patch. We brought in over $3000.00 and only made a profit of $300.00 on a five day sale. The items are not quality items, and the cost to our students and families is nowhere near reasonable. To make any money we would have to raise the cost of the items to a point that would be unrealistic to charge our students and families. I would not recommend this company and there is no way we will use this program again. The Sunrise R-IX School PTO

Huntley Project Elementary School Worden, Montana My daughter gets so excited every year to be able to do her own Christmas shopping with money she has earned. Everything she gets is a surprise to us all because we didn't have to take her ourselve. And as a parent I love that she is learning how it works to budget her money and enjoy the excitement of giving gifts to the people she loves. There is always a great assortment of gifts for each person she wants to buy for too. I love the Santa earrings and mug she got me last year.

We have partnered with Penguin Patch for two years to hold our St. Nick's Shoppe here at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Prescott, AZ. We love them! They make everything SO EASY! The quality, pricing and diversity of products is good - we especially like the religious items. Penguin Patch helps us spread Christmas cheer not only to our little shoppers and their families, but to those of us to who organize and run our Shoppe. The Rewards program is also a terrific added bonus. Thank you Penguin Patch!

  • Kristi Patrick

My coworkers where lovely ladies to work with. I worked so hard to hit every single goal given to me. And because one day I needed to leave to get my children every prize I helped contribute to I will see nothing of it. This was my kids Christmas and it’s all thrown away. All because for 2 silly hours I needed to run home and back. If you have children I suggest not working here. It’s not fit for you. Bless anyone who is like me and knows things happen for a reason! To my coworkers take care!

  • Joul Smith

Our PTA traditionally holds a shop, and since we started PTA too late to organize a full store, this worked in a pinch. They just send you the supplies and you sell it for them. However, in the process, our sales rep didn't clearly articulate the details of how the final totals would be calculated. You just have to be careful with them because they are salespeople first and foremost. Their gifts are relatively acceptable. 75% of it is junk that's too expensive, and 25% of it is cool.

  • PTO Arcola

Wow!! Where do I start? I received a call from Kimberly at Penguin Patch to see if we at Arcola could use there services. I was all ears. In the past we have scrambled to find "clearance" items to sell in the shoppe, the receipts for the Treasurer, the madness of the items that don't sell taking up storage. THIS IS A DREAM COME TRUE!! Looking forward to this year's shipment and many more to come. Thank you Penguin Patch for being proactive and calling. Jennifer Kuhnen PTO President

  • angie kelsch

I am in charge of fundraising for the Augusta Independant School PTSA and I have worked with the Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe for the past 2 years and love it. They are so much easier to work with then some of the other shops we have tried. They have everything organized and ready for you. If you run out of items they have more to you the next day. I would recommend this company to any school wanting to provide a Santa Shop for your students!

  • Linda Wright Rizzolo

This was the first year I chaired a School Boutique. I had no idea what was entailed. The staff at The Penguin Patch explained the entire process and guided me beautifully! I was in touch with them ALOT and they were always happy to help. They even provided all the necessary flyers and posters! They were a pleasure to work with and the kids LOVED the boutique! Maplewood Intermediate School in Huntington Station NY loves the Penguin Patch!

  • Tanya Galpin

We loved using Penguin patch. We used it for the fist time this year. We loved the Aprons and we loved the chocolates that we received. It was a nice treat. The product was comparable to other companies we have used in the past. The only thing we had issue with is that there was too much of the smaller priced items and not enough of the middle of the road priced items. Saluda Primary School Our students and families look forward to having the Penguin Patch Shop at our school. The free gifts that are given for those who can not afford to shop are appreciated by our faculty. Otherwise, our teachers would be once again going into their pockets to make sure every child could enjoy the experience of giving to their loved ones. The company makes the process simple and easy.

  • Lynnesha “Nesha Mars” Hamilton

Gearity Professional Development loves this concept and thanks Penguin Patch Family for introducing their Holiday Shoppe to our school. Its such a easy way to let your kids do something special for the ones they love with fair prices. And is a One click shop you sign up, they deliver and you send back what you don't. This will be our 4th year and it is Absolutely fantastic thank you Penguin Patch...

Our children love to come in and shop for themselves and their loved ones during the holiday season! We are looking forward to continuing the store in year's to come!!! Thank you Penguin Shoppe!!! Monica Chapa Dallas, Tx 75229

The Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe was an easy way to offer our students the opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts for family and friends. The staff is very accommodating and easy to work with. The variety of product is great and easy for children to make their choices. We have worked with the Penguin Patch for the past 2 years and are very satisfied and look forward to our 3rd year.

  • D. Stallworth

We put $72 on my son’s card to shop with ($12 for 6 people) and these are the items they thought best was worth that amount. You’re better off running down the road to your local dollar tree and letting your kid go crazy choosing items. I’ve done the whole school Christmas gift shopping in the past with a different company before, so I guess I expected more. At least creativity.

  • Jessica Walsh

I have been a chairperson for this event since 2013 and it is the most simple and fun event we have at Blanco Elementary. Sharon Lambert is our penguin Patch representative and she is so easy to get a hold of and work with. The Blanco Elementary kids look forward to this event and has become a tradition at our school. Thanks for helping create fun memories Penguin Patch!

  • Timer Harrison-O'Dell

I literally could have bought both things my child spent $7.75 on for less than a dollar! $7.25 for the same exact ring that he has gotten out of a machine in the past for 50 cents and a cheap piece of paper rolled onto a cocktail straw. These people are scamming kids just because they don't know the value of money or the objects they are buying!

I worked during peek season here at penguin patch, and i can honestly say i love the company, the C.E O. Jennifer truly takes care of her employees, the hours are not bad, even when you have to work over time they still take care of you, providing extra incentives or lunch for everyone... All in all my experience with the company id rate it a 4/5

  • Alexis Hurley

Our school absolutely loved the shoppe last year! The kids had fun and there was a huge variety of things for them to choose from! I, personally, enjoyed seeing the little faces realize they could afford a gift for everyone on their list with just a couple of dollars. Thank you for a wonderful experience - we can't wait for the shoppe this year!

  • Sonia Ortiz

I've worked at penguin patch for two seasons now and I can honestly say I love my job here. I look forward to going to work everyday and enjoy what I do. Company provides food and incentives for employees when working long hours during peak season and also strives to provide the best service and quality product to the customers on time.

  • Claudia de Leon

I do not like having Penguin Patch at our school. Everything is junk and overpriced. My daughter bought me a necklace last year and it broke as I tried to put it on. Now the PTA is accusing students of stealing this junk and banning an entire grade level. It is creating fights among the students and small children are sharing money.

  • Baker PTA

Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe makes it so easy for our PTA to provide a fun shopping experience for our students! Their staff is always so helpful with planning and re-ordering items. The students feel so special choosing and purchasing gifts for their loved ones. The Mary E Baker PTA and School enjoy working with Penguin Patch!

  • Ashley Jelks

My daughter was able to secretly purchase a gift for all three family members without help from each of us. She chose gifts that actually connected to us in some way. It was very touching and amazing to see the thought that went into her purchases for each of us! She was so excited for us to have our gifts that she

We had our Penguin Patch Holiday Shop at Cedar Ridge Elementary in Bloomington, IL in December 2022. The kids had a BLAST shopping for their family and friends. The process was so easy. I love how we don't have to keep track of the items as they are sold. The items are very affordable and make lasting memories!

  • Mike Stack

We used several other vendor over the years and finally found Penguin Patch. Not only was the customer service spectacular, but the ability to replenish depleted stock was amazing. Our shop only runs 3 days and we couldn't have asked for more. I would recommend this company for any fundraising organization.

  • kiara Deegan

This business is the worse. Items were damaged, aged covered in dust and broken when they were delivered. The representative lied and misrepresented the terms of the contract in order to gain our business. This is a greedy, outdated and untrustworthy business. Take my advice and stay away from this company.

  • Ryan Pimentel

If I could give 0 stars, I would. The quality of these “gifts” are literally a joke. Way worse than dollar store junk - tiny, cheaply made trinkets, no receipts given. Do not give your kids money to spend with this sham of an organization. Shame on the Penguin Patch for taking advantage of young children.

  • Anjanette Williams

Anjanette Williams (Fundraising Chair) — What a FUN, EASY, way to Fund-raise! Penguin Patch made ordering a breeze. Monte Vista Elementary in Vista, CA did well and kids absolutely loved shopping for the family with TONS of great gift options. We will definitely use Penguin Patch for years to come. ~Anjie

I'm so blessed I got to work here at penguin patch because I enjoyed working with everyone here. One of the things I really appreciated wast hat they would offer incentives and when we worked late they would provide food for the whole company. They always try to do their best to have their customers happy

  • Dr Hilary Johnson-Lutz

The Penguin Patch is great! It's literally a store in a box so it's easy for our PTA members to set up and manage. The kids love being able to shop for their loved ones. Most importantly, the support is great! We were able to get our inventory replenished daily to meet our needs. Thanks Penguin Patch!!

  • Mindy Duncan

Our school has partnered with Penguin Patch since before my son started school. It has been a lot of fun hosting this shop helping the kids buy things for their family members. I like that they make it super easy and do not make you track inventory. Reordering is simple and easy!! We have loved it!!

  • Miguel Melgar

The penguin patch was at Blanco Elementary school this past Christmas season. Our kids brought home some amazing gifts for my girlfriend and myself! They had a sense of pride in putting presents they picked out underneath the tree! I hope they will return next Christmas season as well!

  • Crystal Simonis

We used the Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe for the first time last year at Tower Grove Christian Academy. We were pleased with the program and products. The kids loved shopping for their parents. It is also an easy fundraiser for our school. We look forward to doing it again this year.

  • Brenda L

My husband went with my son to shop the holiday shop at the school. They paid 20 dollars for dollar store rejects. This stuff is the worst quality. I always participate in fundraising and love supporting my child's school. But they shouldn't be convinced into paying money for junk.

  • Patti Hughes

IF I could give this company a 0 star I would! This company is absolutely the worse company. Harassment phone calls - personal phone and school number, emails included too. Customer service was just as bad. I just can not talk enough about the harassment received from this company.

  • Christy Guitard

Union Preparatory Academy, Indian Trail, NC We are so pleased with Penguin Patch! We have hosted a shop for 2 years at our school. The kids LOVE it! As the coordinator, I can tell you how awesome their communication & customer service is. I recommend them 100% to any school!

My daughter goes to Maplewood Intermediate School in Huntington Station NY. She loved the shop last year and this year. I wear apron from last year often and it makes her so happy when she sees it! This year we are enjoying the dog bobble head!

  • Christina Wentz

Love the fundraiser….but multiple children who purchased the super mom mug were left heartbroken Christmas morning when moms opened the box to a super dad mug. Maybe work on packing a bit, i know a few little boys that were disappointed.

  • Jessica Morales

Penguin Patch made it happen. UPS lost my daughter's package, it had gifts she bought for Christmas to give out to f amily. Penguin Patch sent a new order and it arrived today on time for the holiday. You made our girl happy. Thank you.

  • Diana Morrison

My son was told he didnt have any money on his account when I put 25$ on it. I double checked my bank statement and all and they got their money but my son was heart broken when he was turned away after he watched me put money on.

  • Emily Sluzas

Absolute garbage. My kid was so excited to participate, came home with all sorts of stuff that will end up in a landfill shortly. Hopefully in the future our PTO will choose a more sustainable way to teach kids the joy of giving.

We have used The Penguin Patch the past two years at Bullard Elementary! So easy! They are so helpful and attentive as well with reorders, setup, and payments. The students LOVE when the Penguin Patch is at Bullard!

Our holidays were so much more special because of the Penguin Patch. Thank you Penguin Patch for making it a fun experience. The students at Blanco Elementary look forward to the Penguin Patch every year!

Horrendously overpriced and tiny/ cheaply made “gifts”. This company should be ashamed of themselves. Overcharging children under the guise of buying gifts for their families should be a crime.

Don't let your child purchase things from their school stores because they will happily scam children and act like nothing is wrong, they are awful people who should be ashamed

This is not a store. It is a place of business. Parking is a dirt parking lot. It is easy to miss. The street to the office is a bumpy rock road.
