The whole experience was terrible. The rude waitress was totally uncalled for. We sat down at the table and waited, and waited, and when we decided to get up an leave the waitress asked if we wanted to order. Very nicely we told her that we did want to order dinner. She was not welcoming in the least. We ordered, I asked for Ice Water and placed my food order. When asking questions about the menu, she was obviously annoyed and told me that she did not eat the food as she was a vegetarian but she was rude when she said it. My coworker ordered a chicken sandwich, without calling it by the name, and she said "it has a name" very rudely. It was like she did not want to be there serving people. I should have gone with my gut and got up and left at that moment. When she brought our water it was in a little white cup, and no ice. So I politely asked if I could have some ice, she never said a word and walked off shaking her head. She talked to another guy there and he comes over and ask what I wanted. I said a cup of ice. He brought me over ice and a few seconds or so later she shows up with a cup of ice and slams it down on the table. I watched this waitress and her attitude toward several customers. If I was the owner of this business she would immediately be fired. She is rude, and evidently hates her job and it shows. We got our food delivered. The food was terrible. She never checked on us and Lord forbid we ask her for anything. When I asked for the check and she brought it back she had noticed none of our party ate our food. She asked what was wrong with it. I said I didn't like the food. She proceeded to say that she has never received a complaint the entire 18 months she had been there. I find that unbelievable. We paid for our food but I would never darken the door of this place again.

Horrible service. Bartenders are literally have no idea how to gauge there customers. Our experience started out odd from the beginning. I brought in seven of my employees after a really long day of work, will be working for almost 16 hours and I thought that it would be nice to treat the guys to a couple beers and dinner. Bartender was extremely rude the minute we walked in the place was completely empty on a Monday night, the bartender was completely impersonal, part of me really wanted the kitchen staff to be out bartending instead of the guy that we had because just a small interaction of somebody, putting my food down was more small talk than two hours of dealing with the dude that served us drinks. Long story short, we ignore the bartender, after countless attempts to make jokes with him or start small talk, or just get a laugh out of him, ( nothing inappropriate just general work jokes ) and the moment we made one joke when getting the bill he decided to kick us out. I don’t know about you, but if I were bartending, I would not kick out people that were already leaving, but it kind of add insult to injury. I’ve been coming to this bar for years, and I’ve been bringing people to this bar for years, I’ve been bringing colleagues, business meetings, VIPs that I meet that I want to impress in DC. I wanna show them a good time, and I would normally bring them here.… BUT…. NEVER AGAIN. NEVER NEVER AGAIN WILL I SET FOOT IN THIS PLACE. So I never write reviews but I had to take the time to write this one… simply to warn others. My husband and I were staying in the hotel Madison around the corner and wanted a quick bite to eat, we found this around the corner walking distance. Honestly I thought the lady was rude who took our order - definitely seems like a regular place not an outsider place. I got a salad and chili and my husband got a burger. He actually really enjoyed the burger and it’s hard to mess up a salad. The place is definitely outdated but it’s a dive bar, I didn’t expect much. As we’re eating a roach starts crawling across our table and then 5 more come out of the booth and start crawling on the wall next to us. We instantly closed out, still tipped and left. I just think it’s disgusting this is happening and it’s very dangerous for me considering I’m pregnant and roaches are filthy. Our stomachs turned and we both instantly went to our hotel and threw up our meals. I just wanted to get out of there, my skin was itching. Now that I look back I shouldn’t have even paid the bill, if you want a clean establishment do not go there.

Added a picture of the emotionless and unwelcoming bartender that ruined our night. Hard and long day with employees, thought we would go to post pub and treat our guys to some drinks and food. Bartender was rude, standoffish, unphased by jokes, cold shoulder to small talk, and just really uncomfortable. We thought we had a normal 2 hours, eating, laughing and swapping stories about work in basically a Monday night EMPTY BAR. We start to close out and we make 1 joke, and our bartender kicks us out of the bar. Also, I don’t understand why you would kick out someone who is already leaving. It blindsided all of us, it just didn’t make sense to not just 1 of us but all 6 of us. Its not like he looked at us and said hey guys, here’s your warning for being, NORMAL PEOPLE. All of us barely even spoke to him. He was to least attentive bartender I have ever came in contact with and I personally have bartended for years. We weren’t rude, we weren’t overly loud, we were just minding our business and talking amongst ourselves and trying to unwind. This place deserves to disappear from DC. It’s a disgrace of a bar. GO HERE IF YOU WANT TO FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE.

Customer service wasn't terrible, but certainly needs to be improved. I placed an order for a griddled chicken sandwich and the server brought me a fried chicken sandwich. I explained to my server and mgmt that was not what I ordered and do not want it. I was prepared to order something else, yet my server never came back to check on me. They were busy and it seemed as if there were only two servers that also served as bartenders, but that doesn't negate the fact that my server never came back to check on me. Didn't even offer another drink while I waited for my order to be corrected. I sat there patiently for 20mins and watched my server walk past me at least 10 times without saying a word to me. I saw her look at me and keep attending to other tables. Unfortunately, I had to walk out as I felt my business was not appreciated. I was so disappointed, and this was my first time at this establishment. I was excited to try a new place and was so hungry! The chips and guacamole tasted fresh, but I will never go back. So disrespectful.

Giving the best to a place like the Post Pub seems to me to be the very least. you enter the most classic American style pub you can imagine: a counter running to the right with an experiment of spirits behind it, and pairs of sofas with respective tables on the left. The guy who greeted us, I think the owner us immediately made you feel at ease, and he immediately made himself available for my baby. we started with a pact of really good freshly tapped beers, but the highlight was certainly the meat: two huge and very tasty fillets, run perfectly on a bed of delicious fries. my hamburger: 10 and praise not only for the infinite goodness of the meat but also for the caramelized onion, a perfect touch. Fast, attentive and professional service, with a very fair value for money given the crazy quality of the food is the location located a stone's throw from the White House. We highly recommend it to everyone.

Gross sticky dive bar with bad service. Sometimes that's exactly what the night calls for, but this was too much even for me. After waiting 45 minutes for a food order that had clearly been forgotten, we asked for a status update and got attitude in response. The server then returned immediately with something that wasn't what we'd ordered, but dropped it off and left so quickly I would've had to chase her across the bar and deal with attitude again to fix it, so I decided not to say anything. Then she kept returning to drop off random drinks we also hadn't ordered. Closing the tab took foreverrrr. I hope the drinks we didn't order weren't billed to our tab, but who knows. The french fries are standard Ore-Ida freezer fare, but they do taste good. The atmosphere is kind of interesting and beers are $5 at happy hour. Worth going if you have more of a backbone than I do.

Worst bar service I've ever had. Walked into an empty bar on a monday night with 5 co-workers trying to unwind and we were met with an ungrateful and rude bar tender, who proceeded to ignore drink orders and consistently close out tabs after ordering one drink. Throughout the night we tried to make connections with the bartender via small talk and jokes but were met with a cold shoulder and silence. At the end of the night when we were trying to close out for the evening, the bartender immediately snapped and said we had used our "3 strikes" and that we weren't welcome back with no explanation on what happened. He said I will swipe your care and get out. Ruined our experience by making us feel more like intruders than customers in this establishment. I've never met a bar tender who would kick out a group of people who were already trying to leave.

I'm changing my 5 star review from 2016 to a 1 star review here in 2022. The restaurant has gone down significantly in quality. Back then, the only problem were the roaches. Now, the food is atrocious. The burgers are greasier and smaller. The Mexican corn off the cob was a can of corn dumped out, heated up, sprinkled with a tiny bit of parmesan, and then covered in a sauce not even resembling the authentic cream. Overpriced as well, for the quality. Our server was an older woman who was immensely rude the entire time. She told me how to sit in my booth on top off everything, while I tried to enjoy my mediocre meal. There were a multitude of flies swarming around, and it started to smell like sewage by the end of our experience. Never coming back again. I'm so sad to see how horribly downhill this place has gone. But all good things must come to an end. Which is my experience and potential experience of this restaurant. Get it together.

Not great. Service was very friendly, but a large chunk of the menu was unavailable, and what was available was rather uninspiring, even for a neighborhood pub. Of significant concern: (1) the lights were flickering. All of them. There are electrical/wiring problems that they need to sort out; I don't want to see the place burn down because of an electrical fault; (2) both menus we received were moldy. Like, no joke - water logged and extremely moldy paper underneath the plastic covers. The bartender said that they were in the process of updating the menus but hadn't gotten the replacements yet (hence the unavailable items that weren't proactively pointed out before we ordered). Ultimately, we passed on food and stuck with drinks. To top it all off, the beer was warm.

I was thrilled when post pub returned from COVID purgatory. It was a wonderful atmosphere, but sadly it’s gone downhill. The menu hasn’t been updated in years and the beer selection is weak. The happy hour deals aren’t particularly good, and the food menu is quite bad (burgers are fine, but $30 for 12 dumplings? That’s absurd!). There’s a wonderful bartender or two, but service and a poor atmosphere make for a generally odd or uncomfortable experience. This used to be the go-to. Now, it’s just a dive—and not a charming one. Hoping they can win folks back with some changes.

The atmosphere was warm. The establishment was full of people. There was no seats at the bar. I found a table in the room near the door. I found the service rushing around (they were busy). Another table was complaining about their wait. It wasn't long before I was able to order a drink and it came in a reasonable time. I ordered the 12 oz New York Strip with a baked potato and a Cesar salad. I didn't wait too long for my food. It was cooked correctly and was delicious. I finished the meal with a piece or carrot cake. It was delicious. I definitely recommend it for those who enjoy sitting with friends and having a drink. It is not large and very dated (it's been there for 40 years with limited updates). I will definitely go again.

  • Deven Clark

When my group came in the waitress was very rude. We ordered drinks. Mine came with a roach in it. I kindly asked for another drink. The waitress said that she is sorry and she will make sure the drink was taken off the check. The check comes around and it still has the alcoholic beverage listed. When I remind her that she said it should be taken off, she rudely says "Yes it was taken off". I say ok, assuming that shed 'actually' remove it when she went back. Check comes out with our cards charged, and the check includes the roach beverage that she said she'd take off. Seems like a cool little dive bar, but they need to get rid of the older lady that serves

Feels like one of a dying generation of old school DC dive bars. Not too gentrified and hipsterized yet. Perhaps come mostly for the vibe and not for the quality of the drinks and the food. The gin & tonic was strong enough, "The Diplomat" burger was greasy enough, and the matronly waitress was surly enough. All in all, a satisfying dive bar experience. The Old Bay aioli fries were the fanciest thing available. Go now, before it disappears, and experience a vestige of a bygone DC.

Went here at 9pm on a Saturday night with two friends. Ordered 3 beers totaling $20.90. Paid with $30 cash and the bartender took my money and didn’t give me any change. When I asked for my $9.10 change (with full intentions of tipping on the 3 beers we ordered) the (drunk) bartender went back to the register and got a $10 bill and slammed it on the bar in front of me and yelled in front of everyone “here you go, princess!” Apparently he thought he deserved a $10 (50%) tip on a check for three beers. I’ve been in the service industry for 15 years. This place deserves 0% gratuity for customer service. Would not recommend. Take your business elsewhere.

Stamped tin ceiling, red naugahyde booths, ancient mosaic tile floor - it’s like the place was teleported into the 21st century from 1950. Get the crinkle-cut Old Bay fries with garlic aioli, wash ‘em down with a local draft or two, pay 2/3 what you’d pay for something similar anywhere else in the neighborhood with the less-than-zero-pretensions discount. It’s the diveyest dive bar you’ll find within walking distance of K street - and I mean that in the best possible way.

2/20/23 Went to this bar after work with 5 friends. Tried to order food, bartender said most of the items were bad, only the mozzarella sticks were good. Didn’t feel welcome the bartender would give mean stares every once in a while. I don’t drink and I think the bartender was a bit mad that I sat at the bar without drinking. After an hour we wanted to pay and the bartender said “That’s 3 strikes you all got to go!” He wouldn’t tell us what we did wrong. I would give them another chance but since I don’t know what made the bartender mad I don’t feel comfortable going again.

Wow! This place had great reviews! Waitress was extremely rude. Brought water to two members in a random white cup, no ice, then got mad when they asked for a cup of ice which she then slammed on the table. Hamburger was ordered well done, blood on top when it came out and it was just a frozen patty from the grocery store. If you want to just drink, you'll be good. I'd pass on the food and sit at the bar.

Stopped in for a lunch burger with some new colleagues. The food was as expected and came fast but after getting our food it was almost impossible to get our server's attention again. That plus the noise level - it was as if it was already happy hour at the bar! We could hardly hear each other across the booth. Might go back for a burger but would need to sit outside... unless I'm with someone I don't actually want to talk to.

Good luck getting served. Took a good 15 minutes just to get drinks as we were seated in the side eating area. Paid and went somewhere else for dinner as we were also freezing in that section. Clearly a popular watering hole during happy hours for the locals and they appeared to be quite happy. 'Last drink before the metro' scores high, 'Sit down dinner visiting the city' probably not.

The menu clearly says scan in the QR code to place your order. I just wanted to ask the waitress a question about the ordering and she got all uppity with me. She said "We don't do that here". These people yelled at me because I knocked on the bar to have my order. They literally looked at me and told me that because I was white, they would not take such demanding orders, even if they were a paying customer. I favor racial equality, but I literally just knocked on the bar and said “hello bartender,” and I don’t think that makes me a damn racist.

One of my favorite dive bars. Reasonable prices on food and beer. Ice cold beers and my chef salad with hot chicken was one of the best salads I have had. Going back soon to try other items. If you are at the Capital Hilton, walk about 2 blocks down L street. Food/beer/prices so much better than at the hotel.

Fantastic little hole in the wall bar. It's well known but still has that feel which is fantastic. It's definitely a busy place but we were luckily able to grab a seat at the bar. The bartenders we're very friendly and made our experience enjoyable. The food was good as were the drinks. I would definitely go back here and recommend it to anyone without hesitation.

I never write Google reviews, but I've got to give it up to Post Pub. I work nearby and pick up lunch from them occasionally. Y'all, their spicy chicken sandwich with the truffle fries is a smash. It's so good. And I've had drinks there too and their whole atmosphere is great. It's a classic, an actual dive bar in downtown. I'm just so thrilled that they're back!

  • Woody Schedler

After reading reviews we thought this would be a good place to go. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Thai salad with peanut sauce had no peanut sauce. The french fries were quite horrible. Fish was good. Chocolate Mousse cake as recommended by waitress was unavailable. Very drunk girl at bar was still being served. Not the best place for a birthday celebration.

  • isela martinez

Drinks were good. Food took way too long for a simple burger, fries and mozzarella sticks. There only two other customers when we got there. The cheese wasn’t even melted onthe burger, the buns were burnt and mozzarella sticks didn’t even have mozzarella in them.Only came here cause Stans was closed. Next time I’ll just wait till theyopen. Server was nice

What a great place! Little hole-in-the-wall pub reminiscent of the hole-in-the-wall pubs in your hometown, regardless of where you are from. Only detractor - wish the kitchen stayed open a little later (closed at 10 pm), or wish they had bags of chips or nuts for a late snack. Highly recommend!

Out of town from the other Washington, came across Post Pub and ate/drank there every night. Really cool they have an old advertisement sign for Olympia beer on the wall, which was brewed 60 miles south of Seattle in Olympia Washington. Truly a sign that us Seattleites were meant to be there.

Hands down one of the best burgers downtown DC has to offer. Good happy hour with enough room inside to accommodate small and large groups. Post Pub also has great seats overlooking L St. if you happen to find yourself eating or grabbing a beer alone. Over all the vibe is great.

Service and food was awful. The waiter was so rude and talked over me when I was giving my order. Food came out cold and tasted like it came out of a frozen TV dinner. Would not recommend, lots of other places to eat in DC. More

A typical dive bar, but jovial and fairly priced.

Looks like a dive bar, yet turned out to be a friendly place. Good beer. Great service. Didn't have food, but it looked tasty.

Ownership has changed hands but the place still rocks. Located on an east-bound one way street if you are taking a cab.

Nice local pub (not touristy), the way I like them. Good beer, no cook at the time we went but enough food choices not requiring a cook.

Great service and food! Good amount of seating too!!!!! We had a large group and couldn't find seating anywhere on a busy Saturday night and they had plenty of seats for us

Looks dark from the outside but the place is great. Good atmosphere, friendly staff, cheap drinks and great tunes playing. A hide out in the armpit of the city.

  • Smokeejr Smokes

Realy sad little place. Dirty and smelly . Maybe put some working light bulbs in the restrooms. Maybe cut out the yelling and screaming by the gray older man.

Cool little hole in the wall. Only had good beers while sitting outside. Good bartender. Good people watching. is

Not 5 cuz i have been to places not nicer but let’s say neater. Service was friendly but slow and the air conditioning was week. Food was good for bar-food.

  • Kemuel Cruz

not a bad place, music isn't too loud so you can actually have a conversation over a bison burger and beers, yes that's right , Bison burger …

Solid dive bar. Somewhat a dying breed in central DC. Great service and good selection of beers. Good pub menu. Comfortable atmosphere.

José, the bartender was super funny and nice! He made us feel comfortable while being tourists! Plus, the fries are so gooood.

Good food with a smile. A great place to stop pool by for a burger. This bar dates back to the lake 1800s.
