My purpose in writing a bad review of Power Plumbing in Mission Hills, San Diego, CA is express my experience for future clients on the tactics they used to get a job by quoting a low price without a written estimate and then finishing the job and charging much more than they quoted. I called Powers Plumbing for an estimate to take out our old wholehouse water filter and put in a new one which we had bought. I had worked with Powers 16 years and trusted them. They also quote their hourly labor rate which we like. Unbeknownst to me they had sold their business to new owners. The plumber arrived and looked at the job and quoted us 4 hours of work $756, and said he could start immediately as he had installed many of the brand we had bought. He said he had all he needed in his truck to do the job. We said fine and went inside. Later he said we needed a new water pressure gauge, and I drove and got a new one which he installed and charged an additional quarter of an hour for that. When he finished and we asked the total figure, he quoted us $1,428.48 or $579.27 more or 41% more than he had quoted us. He said the difference was all the parts he used and he did not use the parts that came with the unit we bought. He never once mentioned he was going to use all new expensive parts or quoted a price. If he had told us this and given us a quote, we would not have used him. We paid him but after he left, we realized that he was dishonest in his estimate to get the job and we were conned! The next day there was also a leak from the pipes he installed. I called three times to talk to the owner about this, but he never called back and after calling and emailing to get a written invoice, we finally got a written invoice. About 7 days later someone called, and I expressed that the installation was leaking, and that we felt we had been conned. He said he would send someone out to fix the leak and that he would get back to me. When he got back to me, he offered us a 10% discount or $140 which I refused. What showed me that they are not an experienced, honest, and professional company is that he thought that it was perfectly fine the way they jacked the price up after the job was done in order to get the job and did not give a written estimate at the beginning of the job. We had a contracting business for years and would never have done this. Their work was good except for the leak, but make sure they give you a written estimate with a written guarantee (this will could take 3 or more days) before you let them start the job.

A great plumber in your contacts is one of the greatest finds you will ever have and an absolute must if you own or manage a property. Leaks happen. Typically, unexpected, on a Sunday or a holiday, or some other (typically) expensive hour. I was very fortunate to find Powers Plumbing when I did. They were not one of my typical "go-to" contacts for repairs. After having exhausted my normal contacts and being absolutely shocked by their lack of customer service, cost to simply enter the dwelling, and the hassles of dealing with automated scheduling bots, I finally found my new go-to plumber for all my needs...and these were my regular contacts (sad that times have changed). When I called to schedule with Powers Plumbing, an actual knowledgeable employee answered the phone and was extremely helpful. They charge by the hour start to finish unlike others who charge an inflated minimum amount to simply walk through the door +++ an hourly rate to be billed rounded up to each 15 min interval...as if people have no choice but to be subjected to their crazy terms and rude workers. Powers was prompt, followed instructions, called me to verify the services needed prior to starting the repair (this work was being performed at a rental unit I manage), they were very respectful of my tenants, cleaned up their work space, documented the paperwork properly for reimbursement, and VIOLA! An excellent job, well done, with professionalism others should experience (as this seems to be a lost art these days), and a happy tenant with a kitchen sink without clogging and back up issues. What more could you want to know? Just call them - obviously you are in need of a plumber if you are reading this. I've already deleted all the other plumbers from my contacts :)

I unfortunately contacted this company yesterday without reading YELP reviews first. Go read the yelp reviews and believe them because I experienced what every bad review states. I guess the first red flag should have been that they were so readily available and got here within under 30 minutes from contacting them. We called them in for a leak by our washing machine, a leak by our kitchen sink and stiff toilet handle. We were quoted $169 for the first hour and then they bill in 15 minute increments. The guy was here for 1 hour and 15 minutes. We were charged $169 minimum PLUS 1 hour and 15 minutes for labor. We were not told about the $29.19 consumable fee for gloves, masks, booties and clean up supplies. They guy did not wear a mask, booties and he left us in a huge mess. They charged us $80.90 for supplies to fix the washing machine leak. The washing machine leak is still leaking just as it was before they "repaired" it and we need to find someone else to now come and take care of the problem. He did not fix the leak at the sink, said he needed to order parts and would be back another time - for what? Perhaps to double charge us $169 for the first hour and do the same bad job he did before. He did (hopefully) fix the stiff toilet handle. He went to his car for 15 minutes to calculate the bill (we were charged for that time) and paid him the $412. Ten minutes after he left we received an urgent call from the office that he under charged us and they sent us a link to send them another $84??!!!!!! So they think it is OK to take over $500 to show up, not repair what they were hired to do and leave us in make a mess. And now we have to find and pay another company to come in and repair what we already paid them them to do.

This was our first time using Powers Plumbing. We were searching for someone specializing in old gravity heaters after an SDG&E inspection deemed necessary. First company said it was unfixable as part was no longer available. We found Powers online. Due to illness of staff, we were rescheduled twice, which had us a little concerned. The day scheduled to come the best tech for our job was delayed at an earlier call. Despite it being late in the day, he came! And, the communication was fantastic letting us know. He went to work and unfortunately, it was far more time consuming than we’d ever imagined. It was dark out, and the heater is under house. We were hoping somehow he could come back the next day, but never articulated that. He actually stayed longer to finish the job. It was so late, maybe 8 pm, that we thought maybe missed him leaving. All I can say is, he was amazing!!! He went above and beyond. We appreciate it so much as the heater was out since before Christmas. So, Powers Plumbing and the technician E.B. are held in the highest regard by our family. He left, the heat was working, and he was off to another job! Thank you Eric, Gail and Powers Plumbing! We are so impressed and grateful!!!

I used powers plumbing to camera snake my drains and they did a fantastic job. We needed to map out our entire drain system to figure out how far our caste iron drains were so our other contractors could remove them and install new ABS plumbing & we used Powers Plumbing several times to help us plan everything out for this large job. The plumbers are very knowledgeable and know what they are are doing. All of them are pros and you’ll get a better plumber than what the big brand plumbers who mostly have a commission structure so they over charge you. Powers plumbing charges by the hour and they have good plumbers which is the most important thing. I’ve been using Powers for many years & I highly recommend them, they are a good company and that's hard to come by these days!

I have an old gas floor heater that wasn't working anymore. I had almost given up on getting it serviced as no one wanted to work on it. I came across Powers Plumbing's website where they talked about working these older heaters. Most HVAC companies want nothing to do with vintage heaters and want to sell you an expensive whole house HVAC system. Living in an old Craftsman style house--that old heater is part of the charm and its quiet warmth adds to the nice wintertime environment. In short the crew came out and fixed it without problems saving me having to do a whole house heating upgrade. They were friendly and experienced. I would not hesitate to use this company in the future.

It's so sad to see a once respected company go to hell. They charged me to come back and fix a shower cartridge installation that they botched. I thought the labor would be included in the warranty of the original work as it was less than 30 days since it was completed. But without giving me an estimate, they started tracking the time for the fix. Then they sent me the invoice for the additional hours saying it was a separate job. This is after not having a working shower for a month! They cancelled the calls at the last minute twice during this time. Steer clear of Powers Plumbing, they aren't the same company they were.

Technician showed up an hour and 15 minutes later than set an expected which caused us to stress out because at 4:30 it’s double the fee per hour. Once he was here he did a decent job and I noticed later on the charges there was a charge for a bowl wax which I had to have already and only cost me six bucks at Home Depot he charge me 8.69and then listed other Supplies which absolutely none were used because I had my own bolts and nuts to refasten the toilet and so there was an overcharge there for supplies about 20. Bucks. I feel David was a but dishonest, in the extra charge.

We had black sludge backing up in our half bathroom and a clogged kitchen sink. We called Powers because they came highly recommended and we had used them before to fix our shower. The sales rep (Karen)on the phone was very professional and was able to get someone (Erick) out to us on the weekend and even worked around our schedule. Unfortunately, the clog could not be removed that day but when the plumber came back he brought someone else and worked hard at saving us money and possible damage to our pipes. I am very happy with response time and knowledge of Powers plumbing.

There great yoshi and Luis worked great as a team. I had a sewer drain clog. I have an older Pacific beach home with cast iron pipes. I told them in the past I've had plumber that broke pipe. They looked at the system and decided on a plan to fix the problem. Got to work unclogged the drain and also installed a new bathroom fixture in no time. As a senior I was amazed on the professional work ethic these young guys had. I think it's a reflection on training from the company they work for. Thanks powers plumbing for the great job I definitely will use you in the future.

It was great having the technician that installed my exterior gas line return to hook up my outdoor firepit! David was excellent from the phone call of when he was on his way to trying to work out issues with a faulty lighter on a piece of equipment which I purchased from an online vendor. He wanted to make sure everything was in perfect working condition and cleaned up. I have used Powers plumbing for the last 6 years and regardless of the change in ownership, continue to receive great service and will be calling them for future plumbing/gas line issues.

Powers Plumbing has done 5 jobs for me. Kitchen and bathroom faucet replacements, shower bar replaced, broken toilet repair and a new toilet installation. All the technicians have been on time and sometimes early. They a skilled at what they do and communicate when doing the job so i knew what was happening at all times. The service department has gone out of their way to find my products that i needed. I have one my project to do when i can and that is to replace my turn off valves. I will definitely have Powers Plumbing do the job.

Jonathan responded to my call for an urgent plumbing problem on a Sunday night. He was prompt, prepared and pleasant. He was efficient and focused on his work. He explained the problem, what was required to fix and the estimated cost. It was not cheap, but the crisis was resolved, he cleaned the work space before he left. I wish it would have cost less, but I trust the reliability of Powers Plumbing and specifically Jonathan (although I have also been satisfied by the work of others whom they have sent out).

Powers Plumbing were excellent for the work needed. I had a clogged pipe from my washing machine and Diego saw that he needed a larger piece if equipment to cut through the clogged and root buildup. He went back and picked up the machine and had the pipe cleared in no time, less than one hour including the time picking up the machine. Diego was super nice, knowledgeable and professional. Karen back at the office was very nice and professional as well. Powers Plumbing provided five star service.

Parts supplied. The parts manager was extremely knowledgeable about the parts we were seeking and helpful in finding something that worked from his inventory. It was a very pleasant experience to go somewhere and be treated like a valued customer by someone that actually knows their field and inventory. Took me back in time to that hometown that San Diego was in my childhood. People cared when they helped you and small businesses specialied. Thank you for so much for that. Highly recommend.

I have a 1939 house that has taps and valves from the 70s . I needed a part Home Depot etc sells an alternative but I wanted the same fitting or valve. No where else had it and when I brought it in Jason told me exactly what I needed and . I was happy to have it replaced the old one put a new one in place . Like for like . Longest part of doing the repair was finding plumbing shop that carried what I was looking for. They have a lot of older style fixture there and I will be going back

Corey and Jonathan were here all day taking care various issues (all caused by the degradation over time or, by others). It was a pleasure to have both of them here. They were profession, efficient and really listened as I described a truly bizarre problem. I can 100% recommend Powers Plumbing. I have been a customer since 1986 and they have truly kept the pipes and plumbing in this 100-year old home humming. Great company, great people.

The staff was friendly and responded quickly. They fixed the issue with out problem. However the prices are very high. They charge very high prices for parts, alomst 3x- 4x what you would pay at home depot for the same parts. The hourly rate includes drive time. The rate itself is also a bit high at 180 an hour. Was almost 400 for the hour and 15mins of work. The job was the repair of a broken sprinkler pipe. Will not be using again.

Boy, am I glad I found these guys. Brand new faucet/side spray was leaking under our kitchen sink. We found it at 6:30 PM, knew it couldn’t wait until morning. The emergency line was answered by one of the owners who sent Eric out immediately, who figured it out and fixed it, cleaned everything up beautifully, all in an hour. Amazing. A real neighborhood plumbing company with solid, nice, helpful, smart people, a huge find!

Luis did an outstanding job replacing a broken water inlet valve to our washing machine. He, also, replaced all 3 valves that I requested on our shower. The valves now operate very smoothly. He was very fast and efficient and completed the task within a reasonable time and cost. We will definitely use Power’s Plumbing in the future if any plumbing problems occur. Professional technicians who know their stuff. I've had other plumbers who come over and give weeks estimates and can't pinpoint the problem. Powers gives an estimate with photos, cost and list of materials and detailed diagnosis of the problem. Their technicians communicate and billing is easy. I always recommend them to people, particularly for large plumbing projects. They will do it right and not cut corners.

Powers Plumbing did an amazing job finding an obscure part for my fixture and saving me a tremendous amount of time and money. The plumbers sent on site were fast, courteous, and professional. They went above and beyond in keeping me informed, dealing with our building's precarious plumbing system and minimizing my stress level. Talked with someone on the phone about a leak in the piping from our pool. He said the can do it. When they got here, they didn't seem to know how to do repairs involving a pool. I had to pay the "minimum" charge of $188. They were here 5 minutes. Would have been nice to know they couldn't do it after the phone conversation. Don't use them for pool plumbing!! The repair guy himself, however, was very nice.

Very impressed with everyone I dealt with at Powers. They were very straightforward and easy to deal with. I didn’t feel they were looking for ways to increase my service or pad their bill. I originally had booked one of the big 3 providers and about fell over when I got their quote. Using Powers saved me thousands from that price. I have already recommended them to several neighbors. The sewer cleaning port was flooding with clean water from the nearby main water line. However we ended up paying for pressure cleaning of the sewer pipe which was not needed. The technicians did not tell us that but did the service anyway and took $700+.They did not even attempt to look for the real problem. We are very disappointed and feel ripped off.

I've been using Powers for years and their service is always outstanding. Gail made an appointment for me and within an hour Jonathan, the technician was at my door. He is a delight to work with, personable, courteous and knowledgeable. He worked steadily on the disposal, got it fixed and cleaned up within an hour and a half. Powers never disappoints.

Their guys came over to jet my sewer line. They dragged their heavy machine up and down my brand new staircase, which left gouges on almost every step! And then they didn’t say anything to me about it and charged me $1100 for the pleasure after causing what is likely $1000s of damage. Super unprofessional, I will not be using them again.

Talk about turning negative to positive. Althought there were some scheduling issues and a minor billing adjustment to be made, the overall experience has me feeling happy. I was contacted by the owner Janet couple of times and they made it work. Both plumbers and parts guy were extremely professional, and I would recommend them again.

I needed a plumber to fix drain and water valve in tenants shower. Powers Plumbing were quick to respond and available next morning. Very professional customer service and technician. Both very polite and and ready to help you. I think was a little expensive, but you get what you paid for, I guess. I will call again if needed.

Reasonably priced. Responsive. Excellent work. They ordered the parts for me. They replaced shower head and tub spigot. Added a house shutoff valve. Also, fixed a gas line and connection to my dryer. I've used them for years. The new ownership is continuing the excellent quality and service of the prior owners.

They rescheduled me several times, misdiagnosed the issue and over charged for time. They said later when I asked about the excess billed time that they charge for travel time to and from their location, which doesn’t seem right and is not usual in my experience.

I called them for an estimate for work I need to have done. The technician came out and looked at everything. He seemed to be knowledgeable and was courteous and professional. However, I have not yet received a bid, so I don’t know if I will use their services.
