I used to love this place when it was called Primrose! I’ve spent many hours and a lot of money here. But when the new owners took over, the attitude changed and the coffee got worse. And now the baristas are all mean. I often say “good morning, how are you?” and am met with a blank stare if I’m lucky. It’s this quiet hostility that’s honestly unsettling as a patron. Such a shame too because the place is very cute. The pastries are incredibly overpriced for what they are, go down to Otway for better value (can’t believe I’m saying that, they don’t need the promo.) Also the hours are a joke, what kind of coffee shop opens at 8am? There’s always a group of people waiting outside at 7:55am confused why they’re not open. Shame to see my favorite neighborhood spot go downhill so quickly. Avoid, there many other better options in the neighborhood.

Cute but terrible coffee / service. Avoid! (Go to Guevara’s instead!). I’ve lived near here for years, coffee here has never been great but it’s cute so I always want to give it a shot. No more! Now it’s “Prima”, formerly “Primrose”, so I thought maybe it would be a bit different. Nope! The service was chaotic and unfriendly; I just ordered a cold brew, thinking it would be quickest / easiest. I drink a lot of coffee - and cold brew - always just black / with plain milk. This cold brew was for-sure sweetened; my first sip was jarring. The rude cashier insisted it was not sweetened; the other cashier suggested it did look like “rocket fuel” (sweetened); cashier #1 said it wasn’t but offered an iced Americano instead. After waiting another 6-7 mins for the American I just left empty handed and accepting $6 in sunk costs. I won’t be back.

We recently hosted a private event on their back patio and everything turned out perfectly! Daryl and her team were so kind and easy to work with, they helped make sure things ran smoothly. Every coffee/tea drink that I tasted was delicious, and the food was incredible!! Haven’t been able to get the grilled cheese with broccoli rabe out of my head… Whether you’re looking for a quiet corner to enjoy a coffee and your book or a beautiful back patio perfect for hosting, Prima is the spot! The aesthetic is cozy and modern while still maintaining so much of the unique brownstone features. We couldn’t have been happier with the overall experience and will definitely be back in the future!

I've been coming here for years. And technically I love the intimicy, the friendly staff and the menu selection. But the fact that they won't take your reusable mug or won't give you a plate if you dine in (everything is in plastic containers or takeout containers even if dining indoors) just rubs me the wrong way. They claim COVId, yet take your cash. So that argument just makes no sense. Look around this city and it's massive garbage issue. We need to be better. It's not that hard.

I've never had an issue with the staff, and their tea lattes are decent, quite pricey like $4/$5 closer to $5 and their pastries are ok. I do however enjoy their Avocado toast. I had an incident with one of the patrons who eavesdropped on my conversation and went back to one of the parents at my daughter's school to report what I said in relation to a comment she made about me. A bunch of jerky JHS gossip bull, that I simply don't respond well to. Other than that, it's a family friendly place which located directly across the street from my daughter's school. Oh and at night time they serve wine for those neighbors who enjoy having a glass/es of wine.

This place used to be Primrose, and it was clear when the new owners took over before the pandemic that they were going to make changes. The friendly staff turned over, the wine bar got established, the menu changed. The new menu is okay, but the service has just gone downhill. Rude. Annoying. And, it's harder to prepare your coffee with people on top of you. The Primrose team was fine adding syrup and oatmilk for you, but somehow the Prima employees want you trip over other customers to do the same thing.

Absolutely will be back. As soon as you walk in you feel welcomed by the relaxed atmosphere, smiling faces from the staff and sweet aromas from the kitchen. We decided to go during the week Prima collaborated with L’Attache Paris and couldn’t have been happier. The dishes were perfect from presentation to flavor and portion. We tried many of the dishes along with suggested wine and left feeling beyond satisfied. We can’t wait to visit again and appreciate everyone at Prima and L’Attache for taking care of us.

Consistently great coffee and really excellent baked goods. A neighbourhood coffee shop vibe that I would go to every day if I lived there. Their blueberry muffin is the best muffin I have ever had - not too dense, not too cakey, not too sweet, not too dry, just right in every way. Their peanut butter cookie had the right texture and peanut flavour - soft inside and crunchy outside.

Cute little spot slightly tucked away in the walkin of a brownstone. First time here, got an iced matcha latte, cold brew and a couple lox bagels. Good bagels, sadly only wheat bagels left when we came at 1pm, thats okay, snagged the last two anyway . Pretty generous with the lox which is a plus, not a coffee drinker but cold brew was decent, not watery. Matcha was nice, decent color and nice umami, minimal bitterness. Price was fair. Would come again

Open and airy. Good overall vibe, and one of the only places in the hood that doesn't give shameful glances for taking out my laptop. They got my order wrong on my first visit, but their americanos were strong and delightful. I've only been so far in the winter, but it looks like they have a nice big yard with tables and chairs, and I'm interested in seeing how that is in the summer. Great for coffee, so-so with food (avocado toast wasn't a deal).

  • Tyler Blaz

Lovely little cafe in a quiet, residential area of Brooklyn. We had a couple of their espresso drinks and some baked goods while enjoying the nice weather on their patio. The staff inside where helpful and polite, and we receive our coffee quickly. We stopped here a few times during our visit to NYC and loved the coffee each time.

I come here all the time and they go above and beyond to make excellent food and coffee. Everyone who works here is friendly and down to earth, which is such a godsend first thing in the morning. My one wish for primrose is that they had more breakfast options just because I'm here so much, but it's a small place and they handle the high demand very gracefully with their small staff. Primrose til I die!!!

  • Camille Casmier

I can’t believe I never went here before! A summer working in this cafe wasted. It’s very cute, and I just really appreciate that everyone here is working and reading. Very few cafes in Clinton Hill let you work there nowadays (Guevaras doesn’t even have wifi!!!), so i’m glad i found Prima. Also great sandwich.

I love this wine bar! Their natural wine selections are great and the Jamaican food from Big Chune gives me life. The price points for food and wine here cannot be beat. They have a really cute outdoor space in the back! Would definitely recommend.

Sad ceasar salad for $11? Stale croutons and meh flavor. Doesn’t help that staff started cleaning up for the day while I was eating in. I could tell you what mopping soap tasted like with salad now. Maybe I’ll just get coffee instead next time. Nice staff though.

Haven’t stopped by this spot since 2019. Staff is nice. Not sure what happened to the food and beverage but was a huge disappointment. Got two pieces of bread for $10 with sadly presented goat cheese and tapenade. Along with a watered down cortado.. just really sad to start off a Sunday morning... :( Will not be visiting again.

  • Katie Wu

Food was so delicious and fresh. We couldn't stop saying how good it is when we were eating, sharing the TLV. The eggs were fluffy (not overcooked), ham was not salty, salad was amazingly good (fresh taste, flavorful and not too acidic), Multigrain toast was cripsy. Coffee was good too. Will definitely come back.

  • Ashraf Abdalla

It's the best Almond lattee I had in a long time! One of the few places in the neighborhood that use "unsweetened" non-dairy milk in their lattee. I don't know how long it will take people to realize the danger of hidden sugar used in almost all products. Thank you Prima!!

Absolutely obsessed with this spot. Everything about it is just brooklyn cozy homey wine bar vibes. It’s literally at the bottom of a brownstone building and the ambiance is chefs miss. Wine selection is great and they have food and other drinks too! Happy to have stumbled upon it. Will definitely be back.

This is a pretty good cozy neighborhood cafe. I tried their Croissant with ham and cheese and it was mighty tasty. Staff is super nice and helpful. Need to work on your laptop for a little while? Or take a date for a coffee? This would be a good spot to do so.

This place makes the best cappuccino you may ever have. I saw the barista instructing a new employee in the art of making a cappuccino. They take it very seriously. It’s fantastic. Also, the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Great place!

  • Melissa O'Connor

Stopped by here for the first time last week. Enjoyed an Arnold Palmer and grilled cheese in the back patio — there were several (nicely spaced) tables out back, in addition to one out front. Glad to know this cute cafe exists now — will be back!

  • Michael Flynn

For all the changes in menu, staff, decor, etc, it's still a wonderful neighborhood spot with good coffee, standard pastries, nice breakfast options, and creative lunch stuff. A great place to get an afternoon wine and get some work done, too.

They have a rat infestation in the sidewalk cracks right outside of the cafe. On occasion, I've seen dead rats on their stoop. They need to get an exterminator or take more precaustion with the restaurant waste.

Great coffee, great tissues! I always have a runny nose no matter what the season so I appreciate tissues in any coffee shop or restaurant I go. They have the best tissues I've ever used in any other places!
