Amaazing place. A lot of things to see. A bit pricey though. Its $16 for an adult and $7 for child over 5 and under 13. The war ship is in its original condition with many old mattresses, ropes still intact and kept inside. As the ship is not restored or preserved, it looks like its parked in the junk yard rather than in the museum. It should be maintained or atleast be painted to take off the rust and make it more appealing to the crowd. All being said, I still liked the overall experience as we could see many small chambers in their original shape. I have never seen the anchor room before and was amazed to see the width and length of the rope. The museum at back had lots of items to explore. PS: the ship is all metal and being on sunny side of Brisbane river it gets heated up fast. There are couple of pedestal fans but they can only do as much.

Enjoyed the inside exhibits. Was a bit put off by the 'warning asbestos' signs inside the Diamantina as well as a room had a rusty blanket on a bed in reach for children to get hold of-this room of four bunks also displayed asbestos warnings. I felt uneasy walking through just due to dusty, stale smell. The Ella's Pink Lady cabin replica is not accurate to the original which was disappointing-I looked up a video of Jessica Watson showing a tour of Ella's Pink Lady and the interior is not to scale and missing her sink, toilet and storage rooms. It shouldn't be exhibited as a replica, false and misleading. Staff here are friendly and approachable. The place would be 5 star world class with some more government funding for attention to detail maintenance on exhibits outside particularly.

This has got to be one of the best-kept secrets in Brisbane. An amazing museum, packed full of amazing artifacts and history. We dropped in to kill an hour before lunch, stayed for two, had lunch and went back for another hour. There is so much within the Museum and the HMS Dianthus was incredible, with not much out of bounds. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We had a wonderful day and it will be the first place we will visit when we return. Oh, and the entry fee is incredibly low... total value for money and a must see in my experience.

A great family experience! Maritime has such a rich history steeped in tradition and this museum has a fantastic collection of maritime relics from yesteryear. From light house evolution to navigation displays, relics from vessels of significance and the majesty of HMAS DIAMANTINA. The dry dock was closed so could not view the ship from beneath but apart from that... I very much enjoyed learning about the constantly evolving maritime industry and so did my son. Venue is always well maintained and people who work and care for this treasure... thank you!

Very good well presented museum. Staffed by older generation volunteers who were very helpful and informative. Loads to see, lots of model shop engineers that can be started at the push of a bottom. Great presentations in different sections on historical Brisbane, immigration, lighthouses. Loads of wonderful models of famous Brisbane related vessels. WW11 destroyer that you can climb all over. Set aside a half day to do it justice. It's right beside one of the City Cat/ Kitty Cat stops on the south shore so access is very easy.

Not a place to miss. The museum, the beloved child of a band of devoted volunteers, takes you back in time to when shipping was queen - and unbelievably dangerous. The stories of the steemers and shipwrecks of Queensland is told, the tale being often sad. There are artefacts, photos, models, and maps that tell us all about the life of Australian ships. Outside, a collection off ships are on display; the story of the frigate HMAS Diamantina is evocative and you you can experience that by exploring the ship from top to bottom.

It was a very beautiful experience, seeing the history of boats! There are some interesting reads. Unless you like to look. The real experience is when you get on the huge boat outside. That was really nice, really puts you in the experience (if you got that imagination in you) Make sure you go throughout the whole boat. I really enjoyed going to the top of the boat

I'm not a big history person, however, I don't think it's worth $18 a ticket to enter. It's quite a bland place to visit which is rich with history but not really iconic or interesting in my opinion. It's really only a one time visit kind of place. If you're a history buff, I would say this is the kind of place for you. The lady was nice at the front desk.

Such a beautiful event hosted at the Maritime Museum. It was the perfect location to watch the sun set and the city light up at twilight. The jazz ensemble was wonderful! There were clean bathroom facilities as well as a food truck for the event. What a wonderful way to spend a Friday night and experience the city from this perspective.

Held an incredible event last Friday Night at QMM, onboard the historic HMAS Diamantina!! Venue hire for the space has to be one of the most affordable in town, for such an amazing venue! Staff & support staff were unbelievably helpfully and accommodating to work with, both Pre, During & Post event. Could not recommend enough holding an event at the QMM. We will be back in the near future to hold other function/events!!

The Queensland Maritime Museum is located on the southern bank of the Brisbane River just south of the South Bank Parklands and Queensland Cultural Centre precinct of Brisbane, and close to the Goodwill Bridge. HMAS Diamantina, a River Class frigate is in the South Brisbane Dry Dock (Graving Dock), and on board, visitors can view the Museum's collection of Australian Naval memorabilia. There is an entry fee here.

The weather was against us today. Unfortunately that meant the outdoor exhibits were closed but we were given a discounted rate for the indoor section. We were told indoors might only provide half an hour of interest to us - an hour and a half later we left with a great deal more knowledge than we came with. Highly recommend even if it's wet and you can't see outdoors. Will be back next trip to see the rest.

  • Ian JR

The Maritime Museum was better than I expected from what I could see driving past. Much larger with plenty to see. My young kids had a great time and were entertained. The staff were helpful in suggesting to look at the outside exhibits first due to the heat, then to move inside where it was cooler. Great location close to Southbank where you can grab a bit to eat after.

  • Stephen Shepherd

An excellent, volunteer run, facility with a huge number of well executed and professionalaly presented exhibits as well as the numerous vessels available to look around. The star of the show, of course is the World War II frigate which is fascinating. Take the time to drop down into the dry dock for a view of the bottom of the ship, not an everyday experience!

  • kaylaaa

The ladies at the front desk were so sweet and helpful The museum is so cool, a lot of replica ships, things to read, and more. And then, when you go outside, you can explore the HMAS Diamantina which was so interesting and amazing. I want to visit every week!

Great, interesting museum. The Diamantina is a highlight, and good to see Ella's Pink Lady on display along with the accessible mock up of Jessica Watson's living quarters on board. My boys really enjoyed it - a good activity for 2 or 3 hours for a family.

Load of fun! And a impressive display of maritime history. If you are lucky enough to get Peter T. Scott (yes the author of several maritime books) as a guide he tells great stories to support the numerous displays, items and LifeSize ships

Very bad maintenance, especially the Diamantina, which "nominated as a Queensland Icon", rusty, seem there is no maintenance for ages. It is not really safe to be around while out of maintenance. There is no good arrangement of those precious collections on the site. It just getting worse since last year or two!

  • Andrea Thornhill

Nice place to spend a few hours stepping back in time and learning about some of the great things that have happened in the past during war or ocean exploring and sailing like the pink lady. The older guides are great and passionate in giving out information. Had fun ⛵⛴ …

  • Gordon Hicks

Great collection of Australian maritime artifacts, both recent and old including a heritage listed dry dock, World War II warship, tugboat and record breaking sailboat. A great lighthouse exhibit and many interactive exhibits - so much more. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff.

  • Gunther Unger

Great place. Kids loved it more than their phones which means something. Tour guide was great providing very interesting info. Fact that the last surrender of WW2 was signed on HMAS Diamantina - which is on full display - is something special. Highly recommended

  • Gabriel De la torre

Very well organized and explained maritime museum. 18$ per adults is worth the experience. Mainly replicas of histocally important ships and stories, as well as artifacts.

It's worthwhile to take the kids to visit the museum! They get to step into the real warship plus many other ships. It's a whole day ticket which means visitor can hop out for lunch at the Southbank then come back in the afternoon. Very nice experience.

  • Alex Garbino

Great museum, self guided tour of Diamantina is the highlight of the museum, but many artifacts and models going back to the age of sail and a whole room dedicated to the history of lighthouses makes for a great visit, plab at least a couple of hours!

  • Annabelle Fernandez

We went to go in at 3:40 and they said they weren’t letting people in and stoped letting them in at 2, there was no sign telling. We walked all this way to get there and couldn’t get in got told to come back tomorrow. Not happy at all More

I recently hosted an event at the QLD Maritime Museum and rented the workshop area for a Christmas lunch. The team was very helpful from the initial enquiry and had good suggestions on what we should do. On the day they set everything up

The distribution is lacking so the point is the ship. It take one hour to finish, but I feel like an overview from the bridge above is quite enough.

Such a lovely place. The wonderful lady who worked there, walked us around the whole place, giving us detailed information about the beautiful boats and ships. Thank you. Kids got their own history lesson, and so did I.

  • Mark Oliver

Interesting to see the collection of vessels outside though disappointing to see the state of deterioration. A fantastic collection of replica boats and original pieces inside. Well worth the trip with the family.
