This is a sad review to write because of how hard I tried to make this experience great. My intention was to spend $20,000 on a best of everything custom built Colnago. They "sized" me for a frame and I complyed. We selected parts and then I went back to the shop to pick it up a week later. I immediately noticed when I left that the wheels were out of alignment - the brake rotors were rubbing and the rear wheel was not centered when you spun it. This is of course frustrating after picking up a 20k bike - but I patiently returned and they "corrected" it. A few days later I went out for my first ride and before I left home I could hear the brakes rubbing again. So I returned, again, and had to leave the bike over the weekend to be repaired. I picked it up a few days later and went home. I found a rather noticable dent/gouge in the frame, which is obviously very problematic - "why do I have to deal with this?" is how it felt. I returned to the shop, again. On the way to the shop I heard the rotors rubbing AGAIN. This time my patience had run dry. The shop owner assured me the alignment issue is "easy" to correct and offered to send the frame out for "repair" to correct the gouge. I know what you're thinking. Thats how I felt too. This is starting to sound crazy. If the alignment is so easy to fix, why is this the third time around and regarding the gouge, sending it out for repair is hardly settling, how about a replacement right? you damaged it to begin with - and did so while you were trying to correct the "easy" repair to alignment for the THIRD time. Now I've had it. No faith or confidence in them. I asked for a refund. They said NO. I spent DAYS arguing with them back and forth. Imagine that.... Customer spends 20k on a bike, retailer doesnt set up properly first, second or third try, then they damage the bike on that third attempt to set it up. Customer asks for a refund and the anser is "no". LOL. Exactly. Three days of fighting and I finally got a refund. I also lost a year of my life from the stress. I've found a very experienced fitter to build my bike for me now and during this experience I've learned that the size R&A had put me on was TWO SIZES TOO BIG. Jesus. This place tries, I guess, but wow is the risk and the fallout going to be on you as a customer and the odds of you being upset I'd say are high. I'd also expect that if someone is set up to sell 20k bikes they would be experts in sizing them, which is clearly not the case here. I'm just SO HAPPPY I didnt end up with a 20k bike that was two sizes too big and an incompetent retailer as my "support" for the duration of my ownership. I hate to say this, but go elsewhere. And if you're not sure about what I'm saying - go ahead and try it out for yourself. Don't say I didn't tell you so though. They told me they issued me a refund a week ago. I still haven't got anything. I'm beyond frustrated and I believe you would be too. Finally received a refund. Thank god the nightmare is over

So, I am new to the higher tiers of cycling. A place like R&A, known for being a mecca to the most hardcore and demanding of cyclists, was intimidating to a middle aged, overweight, novice rider like myself. With lots of questions and things to educate myself on I figured it just isn't the shop for me. Being new to NYC, I would walk past sometimes and just drool at the bicycles that surely cost 10's of thousands of dollars. I finally buy the first really nice bike of my life, which further motivates me to go inside and see what's what (what I can buy). Not only was it pretty cool to be in such an amazing place with so much eye candy, but the salespeople were super helpful, and informative/educational to me, a curious newbie nerd with a million questions which is probably my number one priority in these sorts of shops. That being said, I was particularly impressed with two things. 1) I had just purchased a very expensive bike direct from the factory. R&A had no big ticket sale to eye while working with me. In fact, now that I think about I had stopped in once before making my purchase. (they didn't carry the brand I ended up with) and even though I wasn't set to drop a lot of money on a top class bike. I was treated warmly, patiently and truly felt like a valued customer. (unlike some other shops around the neighborhood!!) 2) I inquired a bit about a bicycle fitting, as I like to put in significant miles. Much to my surprise, rather than grabbing at my money and putting me into the calendar. They asked for how long I had my bike, and quickly said that I needed to put more miles on the bike so I can have more feedback and make my fit more effective. I thought this was another really honorable perspective to take. And lastly today, what made me write this review, I had a Garmin light and the mount failed (RIP Light) and Garmin Support wanted a proof of purchase. I sent an email to R&A Customer support to ask for a copy of the invoice on Friday. Didn't hear back (im impatient!) and called but got a busy signal and thought to myself well, will I be important enough to them to reply in a timely manner and sure enough this morning, I was emailed what I needed, and even got another separate email personally reaching out to tell me that it was addressed and if I needed anything else to just holler. I am here to say that R&A is amazing. Both in product selection and customer service. They do have a bit of a reputation it seems for being "snobbish" and only catering to the elite if you believe what you hear. I assure you I am very far from elite (LOL at the thought) and they've always treated me very well. I've worked most of my career in luxury hospitality and truly value and appreciate quality service as the foundation of long term relationships and I am an R&A guy now. Now that I am not scared of carbon fiber, I can guarantee my next bike, and all the smaller purchases in between, will be from R&A

Update: Sept 13, 2020 I've had a mixed bag of experiences with R&A recently. Purchased a few parts from the front with no qualms, the gripes have been with repairs. I had a tubeless tire that wouldn't seat properly and it needed more air than my floor pump and the outside compressor they have could give. I asked the mechanic if he could fill it with the shop compressor instead, maybe a 5-10 second blast of air to seat the beads on the tire and I'd be on my way. I had to beg him to take it in. Five days later, I called to ask if it was ready and he said yes...when I walked in, he filled it in front of me and gave it to me, then charged me $10 for it. My Di2 battery was giving me trouble (wasn't holding a charge)...I bought the battery from R&A so I bought the bike back to them. He took the battery out of the seatpost, inspected it, plugged it into charging/PC connection tool (the same one that every Di2 bike comes with), checked that it connected, and then gave it back to me and told me to charge it (even though I kept telling him it wasn't holding a charge). I was charged $20 for a five minute battery check. My friend had a different interaction with them: he was packing up bike to go across the country and was trying to find some of the foam that comes in the new bike boxes to protect the frame, etc. They said they'd sell it to him instead of giving it to him. He went to REI instead and they told him to take as much as he wanted for free as they had so much of the stuff. All this plus the generally long wait times for repairs that all bike shops are trying to handle has forced me to buy my own tools and parts, then learn to do it all yourself. At the end of the day, that's probably for the best....you'll dump some money into parts but save several hundred bucks on repairs over the years and learn a skill in the process. Original Review: August 2018 I've been using R&A as my go-to place for bike repairs for about a year now and they've been really great so far! Had a few different repairs done on two different bikes I own...usually pretty quick with them and the prices are very fair. Most straightforward service they've done for me was pedal removal and the most labor-intensive service would probably be the advanced crash inspection I had done after a car decided to merge into the bike lane without looking.... All service was done quickly and correctly. I will say that if I don't need any parts/accessories ASAP, then I'll get them elsewhere (usually online) as R&As prices are typically higher than other places. If I need something last minute, then I'll go in-store and grab it.

After reading many of the mixed reviews on R&A cycles, I decided to check out the shop first-hand, recognizing that we New Yorkers can often be unduly harsh and sometimes down-right mis-guided. I've spent the last several months researching beginner level, super tri bikes. Not quite entry-level but nowhere near pro. I've visited just about every serious bike store in NYC with a triathlon sub-focus from SBR to Toga and Signature. I can honestly say that none swept me off my feet quite like R&A. I almost never write reviews but after a great buying experience today I felt compelled to weigh in particularly after reading some of the harsher opinions on my consultant Felix. From the moment I walked in the store with my own set of preconceived notions about the right bike, Felix Calderon happily greeted me and set me straight. After hearing what I was after and my budgetary parameters, he began with a succinct dissertation on seat tube angles for road vs tt vs tri bikes. For any beginner tri folks that's a huge insight. Thereafter, he indulged me by looking through R&A's complete inventory of close outs bikes from a selection of brands of interest Felt, BMC, Cervelo. No, he didn't snicker because I was on the hunt for a deal but rather emphasized the entire time that he was there to find the best bike for me. Felix has a huge, dynamic personality and his love for the sport of cycling is infectious. We walked through all aspects of the right bike for me from frames to components to fit all while keeping a keen eye on my budget and tri needs. Ultimately, I settled on a 2013 Cervelo P3, chosen for it's high quality frame/price ratio, which will allow me to upgrade parts as I continue to progress. He spent nearly 3 patient hours with me in the shop pouring over every detail of my body measurements, cycling style, components, etc, The dude even split his sandwich with me! Yes, I ultimately dropped $4k, a sizable sum of paper but only scratching the surface for a serious cyclist. At every point of the sale, I was treated with respect for my cycling goals with guidance from a man steeped in knowledge, experience and passion. Oh, yes, and if you love drooling over feats of human ingenuity in the form of pimped out bikes (road, mtb, cross, etc.) - R&A has a stunning showroom of gorgeous steeds far superior to most around the city. Yeah, I've posted this very same review on Yelp as well. As a small business owner, I hate to see folks/businesses unduly maligned. Props to Felix and the R&A crew!

I’m in the market for a new bike and my current desire is buying an aero race bike. I went in with my current knowledge of bikes (which is decent for doing home mechanic stuff but nowhere enough to be a professional) and was looking for specific bike brands that I wanted. Dennis is amazing at customer service and he answered all my questions with the utmost professionalism. He hovered around me while I was browsing just to make sure I was being taken care of and to answer any questions that might come up. Since I was in the market for an aero race bike (specifically Look 795 blade RS, BMC Time Machine, etc.) this is where Felix (I believe he might be the owner of the shop) comes in with his expertise. Without even asking, Dennis and Felix took my body measurements to see if my body type would work with the bikes I was looking at. Unfortunately, my body type did not allow for those bikes. They even allowed me to mount on top of a bike to let me feel the uncomfortableness of the bike. (Sad news, yes I know) but this is where I was really surprised at both Dennis and Felix’s professionalism. Instead of allowing me to buy those bikes that I initially came in thinking to buy, they told me they would not sell me those bikes as the dimensions would not accompany my body type. Instead of trying to force a sale with me, they looked into other options for me to consider and told me to come back another day for a bike that would work with my body measurements. Every bike shop should be like this. They’re serious about making sales, yes. But they will not compromise their integrity to their customers just for a sale. They truly want you to buy a bike that will make you happy and will actually work with your body type. Am I bummed that I can’t/shouldn’t buy the aero bikes I initially wanted to buy? Yes, absolutely. But I’m also glad these guys were there to stop me from making a huge and expensive mistake if I went to a different bike shop that would have allowed me to buy it. I will be going back once I have viewed my options that they presented me with to buy a bike from them.

After buying a bike, I called to set up a fitting with R&A in Brooklyn as it was the only semi-reputable shop that could take me on a Sunday as I work in Manhattan during the week and am not able to step out for a few hours to get a fitting done then. I made it very clear in setting up the fitting that I had to have it done on the weekend. R&A ensured I could indeed be fit on Sunday, which they responded it would be at 10:30AM. I will note that I was given the response, "It should work. If not, I'll give you a call at 9:30AM tomorrow to let you know that it won't." After not receiving the call at 9:30AM (I waited until 9:40AM), I left my apartment to make it to R&A by 10:30AM as I live in Manhattan and had to take the subway 45 minutes to get there. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a terribly rude woman who asked why I was there (not "hello", or "how can I help you?"). After letting her know I had set up a fitting for 10:30AM, she replied, "oh, that is for Monday. I scheduled it for Monday.". I then asked why she hadn't called to tell me, to which she had no response except "I must have miscommunicated". Not only did I ask several times on the phone while scheduling the appointment if Sunday was okay, she had understood that I needed it done on Sunday and therefore she would call me beforehand to let me know if the timing did not work out. Needless to say, I was beyond frustrated and the woman did not apologize or offer anything as a way of making up for her mistake. I then took the 45 minute subway ride back to my apartment and will be having the fit done at a shop closer to me. After reading the terrible reviews, I must say I understand wholeheartedly how incompetent and frustrating the staff is. I highly recommend avoiding the store and will never give business to R&A.

(Edited for grammar in 2022, original review written in 2011.) R&A had my bike for 3.5 months and I got it back in worse condition than when I dropped it off. Admittedly, I could have badgered them more, but I'm patient, I wanted to give them a try, and have other bikes to ride. Sure, my bike's not a $2k+ tri bike (well, not this one, anyway, but R&A will never see either of my high-dollar bikes, or my money, or my face ever again) and sure I was only going to spend $300 on a new set of wheels and whatever on labor, but that's no reason to leave me for weeks at a time without an update or to leave my bike out in the back yard ... for it to get rained on (bet you didn't think that was part of the service package) ... for a few months while I'm wondering where it is. At the very least, Felix wasn't entirely rude to me, and was somewhat apologetic about the way things turned out. Then he told me I should ditch my favorite hardtail and get a new bike and told me about how great his wife's $7000 Somethingérother is. It's apparently pretty nice. R&A seems to be a "by gearwhores, for gearwhores" sort of store. They have nice stuff, really only the best equipment; what they seem to be missing is the decency to be honest about their business model. If they don't want to help you fix your commuter they should just say so. Positives: - compressor outside - the lady at the desk let me borrow the presta->schrader adapter so I could use said compressor - the younger dude working there was polite to the commuter biker who brought in his Target commuter - they didn't charge me for looking at my bike

I have to say, they have a great selection but absolutely horrible customer service and support. Here is my story. I purchased a Felt FRD from them in early November, everything was delivered as stated which was great. After getting the bike built, I contacted them in early February surrounding two warranty/recall items (aero bar clamps and rear brakes). For a month straight I tried 7 times to get in contact with them. Once they wrote back stating they would need a few days and then never responded. Eventually in early April, Sheila Cosgrove responded to my email stating she needed the serial number of the bike and the brakes. I provided her the bikes number within 12 hours. From there she said she would contact Felt and get back to me. Several weeks goes by, nothing. She wrote back the very end of April after I followed up with her multiple times and she said she would follow-up with Felt again. Now it is May 22nd… since then I have tried following up three times with no response. I am heading into Ironman/race season and still have the fear of my aero bar clamps breaking or my rear breaks sticking… R&A is a bike shop, FELT states you must go through your bike shop to get parts… what can I do at this point? I am so disappointed in their absolute lack of regard for customer service and support… and now if something happens during a race that either impacts my results or causes serious injury… what do I do? Well… at that point, after months or trying… I hold them negligent.

Having lived and cycled in NYC for 5 years, I never quite found a shop that I really liked—they were either not knowledgeable enough or were kind of jerks and not very helpful. The first time I went into R&A I spoke to Felix, who I felt was deeply knowledgeable, genuinely friendly, and answered all my questions no matter how dumb. When I needed a new helmet, Felix helped me find one that fit right, was affordable, and looked good. I’ve taken multiple bikes in to get serviced and they come back looking and riding like brand new. Recently they built up a bike for me from a frame and used components I got from teammates. While I wasn’t buying a $20,000 bike from them, Felix and their mechanics gave me the attention and advice about the build I would expect if I was dropping 20K. The bike rides great and they’ve continued to be very helpful with fine tuning everything. My experience with R&A and especially Felix has been excellent. I appreciate his honesty, expertise, and the fact he genuinely cares about his customers—he seems to get real satisfaction from helping people out. I always leave the shop having learned something and feeling the kind of loyalty towards a local business that is all too rare. When I’m ready to make a big investment in a new bike, I will definitely go to R&A because I know they will help me find a bike that fits my body, my needs, and my budget. This kind of service is not something I’ve been able to find anywhere else in New York City or online.

These reviewers that are putting the amount of money they spent buying a bike at R&A Cycles Brooklyn or calling its mechanic “rude” are not helping anyone. I have bought many bikes from R&A Cycles Brooklyn over the years, including a BMC Timemachine Road 01 and latest Cervélo S5, just to name a few. Putting the amount of money that I spend in the review or calling the staff “rude” is the equivalent of going to a restaurant and complaining afterward that my dinner was “expensive and bad.” That would not assist anyone in terms of understanding the quality of the meal, the ingredients, ambiance, etc. My experience at R&A Cycles Brooklyn has been excellent over the years. From my perspective, they don’t just sell quality bikes, they create a community where you can always drop by and have your questions answered. As to the mechanic, Luis, I never remember a time when he was rude to me or anyone in my presence, even when he is extremely busy. Plus, he is always punctual. Whenever I need to service one of my bikes and it’s going to take a couple hours, he would tell me to drop it off and give me a day to pick it up. In fact, there are times I am out on the bike and I need to fix something quickly, I would just stop by and get it fixed. Buying a bike is one thing. Anyone can go on any website and buy a bike, especially if you know your size. But, having a place or community where you can go anytime to have your concerns addressed is priceless. #behumble

I am a serious buyer and was excited to hopefully buy a road bike from R&A. I came in to ask some Qs and was hoping to test ride a few to see what frames felt best for my body dimensions. First off, nobody came up to me to ask me how they could help. But that was fine, I started looking at the bikes - and they have a great selection of really high-quality bikes. After looking around by myself, I eventually asked for help and was directed to an older guy to whom I can only presume was the owner. I explained what bike typesI was trying to decide between / looking for and he told me that’s not how it works. I went along with it as figured he’d warm up maybe after he realized I was a legit buyer. He showed me a few bikes and I asked to sit on one to see how it felt for my physical frame / body dimensions. His response again: “that’s not how it works - we don’t do that, you buy it first, then we adjust” - said in a rude tone. I explained that I wasn't looking for him to fully adjust the bike, but that I wouldn't buy a bike without first sitting on it just to feel it. Again, his response was, that's not how it works. So I told him this place clearly wasn’t the store for me and walked out. Each to their own, and maybe he was just having a bad day (I think this is unlikely though based off the other reviews about poor service/excessive ego). but long story short, I certainly don’t plan on spending my $6-8k micy’s R&A anytime soon.

EDIT: I went back here more recently after seeing the owner’s response, and had a very different experience. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful – not exactly tripping over themselves to assist me, but friendly enough and certainly not rude or suspicious – and seemed much more relaxed than when I went in before. I’ve bumped up my rating accordingly. Original review: Seems like they have a lot of good items for sale here. However, as many others have said, the service is bizarrely, confusingly bad. After I moved to the neighborhood I wanted to see what the local bike store was like, so I stopped in (mostly to look around, but also to get a new tail light and a few other accessories). Not only did they make me set my tote down by the entrance to keep me from stealing anything, but at least one employee was following me at all times. I know that this wasn’t in a helpful “I’m here if you need anything!” way because whenever I *did* have questions they seemed annoyed and completely disinterested. Keep in mind that everything small enough to sneak out is in full view of the staff anyways, and the front door is blocked until an employee lets you out – what am I going to do, hide a bike or a helmet under my shirt and walk out with it? If they’re that suspicious of everyone who walks in I have no idea how they stay in business. How can you claim to be a neighborhood institution if you don’t trust anyone in the neighborhood?

I recently purchased a new bike online from RA Cycles. I bought a new Scott ~$6k ebike that was hard to find anywhere. It was an easy transaction and Sheila was very responsive and helpful. When I received the bike there was an issue that was not related to RA Cycles but with the manufacturing of the bike itself and the motor/electronics. The MFG provided no support and then add in the complexities of troubleshooting remotely...I thought it would take weeks/months to get right. Sheila got Luis involved and he spent the time and got it figured out and worked with MFG to get all parts shipped. After lots of phone calls, emails, videos, guidance, fedex....the bike was up and running in a matter of days and without having to ship the bike back and forth. This only happened because of Luis pushing the OEM to get the parts. This was just awesome! I have been into bikes since the 80's when I was a bmx'r and there are lots of great shops that I have dealt with, but also lots of bad ones, in my opinion it all comes down to if the shop cares about cycling. Based on my personal experience, I highly (5+ stars) recommend RA cycles. The bike is up and running and I am extremely grateful for Luis and RA Cycle, I do not think there are many shops that would have been able to solve the issue like they did. Thanks Sheila and Luis!!!

There are five reasons R&A cycles gets my five stars: 1. Sheila - she went above and beyond to build my dream machine. Specifically, she worked patiently, diligently and methodically with me for months, giving me wise advice, sculpting a bike I will cherish for years if not decades to come. It’s a complete show stopper. Bravo Sheila! 2. Felix ensured my bike fits like a glove, that I am maximizing my power while staying comfortable out there - not only on my bike but with my gear and I’ve never felt better. I didn’t think it was humanly possible but my feet don’t hurt anymore because he took the time to figure it out the issue. 3. Phil worked closely with me, sharing his deep knowledge and understanding of what really matters out there on the road, ensuring me and my ride reach our full potential and look brilliant while we’re at it. Best cockpit ever… 4. The Magic Mechanics Artemio and Luis- there is no bike shop with better mechanics than you guys! Thank you, thank you, thank you! 5. It’s clearly the people and their expertise that keep me coming back to R&A, but on top of that they actually have the top end products they say they do, which can be rare these days, especially if you’re trying to methodically put your dream bike together. Thank you R&A! See you again soon…

It's where you go for elite road cycling bikes and gear. If you need service, speak Spanish. My experiences range: Know exactly what you need and ask for it, and everything is fine. If you're shopping and can't literally see the item you want, or explain the service, this may not be the place for you. For example, they had some pedals in stock that I needed for regular MSRP. Fantastic, they had them brought up from their warehouse, no problem. But when I needed "gravel" (formerly known as mtb) shoes, and asked for a pair of two bolt shoes in a dark color, they literally brought me a pair of all white three bolt road shoes. I pointed this out, laughing, and left. Next time I ended up there was because I needed service and they open earlier than other shops. The same rep cockblocked the repair telling me I need a long cage rear derailleur. To be fair that's spec, but I knew the bike was riding fine before, so I went to Bicycle Habitat and they took care of it in 10 minutes with no derailleur replacement needed. Turned out the chain needed to be shortened. Their reputation is not one of friendly welcoming neighborhood shop. I'd only send people there who know exactly what they're looking for and have thick skin.

Bought my second bike from here last week and I couldn't be happier with everything. The bike purchase was an absolutely amazing process, I was able to purchase online (you can even use affirm if you want to finance), picked up next day in the store and it was assembled right then and there. After going through all the bike stores in Manhattan and Brooklyn I can say they do have the largest variety of offering. Be mindful that inventory for entry level bikes are pretty much washed out in the whole region right now if this is what you are looking for. But with R&A cycles you can go to their website and it is actually reliable with what's in stock. The customer service was splendid, Sheila was super helpful, and since I am super new to road biking she walked me through 2 other different bike models within the same category and suggested the best bike for me based on my goals and just drawing from her general experience. I really liked that it wasn't like I was trying to be sold an item but rather like I was being paired to the right bike for me. I ask a lot of questions and the whole staff's patience was superb! Hopefully this will be my new bike shop going forward.

I have read a multitude of mixed reviews, with much of the negativity focused on the people who work there. For me, it's about level set. They sell high end equipment. If you've done your homework and you know what you want, this is the place to go. I've found their prices to be very reasonable, and their service turnaround time is also excellent. Would I send everyone there? No - in the same way if you want $20 speakers I wouldn't send you to Bang and Olufsen. I have brought people there and had them told "we're not the store for you" - I didn't take that as elitist or rude, it was honest. There are certain things they sell and certain things they don't. I will tell you though, no matter what bike you have or where you got it, if you need accessories, parts, replacements, or tools, they are one of the most well-stocked (if not THE most well-stocked) shop in the 5 boros of NYC, and their prices are equivalent or better than any other shop I've been to for the gear I purchase. Highly recommended to just see some incredible high-end bikes, or if you've done your homework and you're ready to get into the triathlon/mid- or high- end road cycling sports.

Only come here if you know what you need and head out. These people are lazy and useless aside from that. Was told to come back multiple times, and when I finally came the day they told me to... they told me to come back again two days later. I stepped my foot down the day I am writing this review as I took off from a few obligations, only to get cursed at in Spanish as if I could not understand because I look more Asian than Hispanic. Apparently I inconvenienced the mechanic during his lunch. But no one was there and I was outside waiting for 15 minutes getting passed around from person to person. No one wanted to help. Not to mention they will screw you in service costs especially if you do not know bikes. I got quoted $325 just to "look at" the bike and do minor adjustments that I learned as a teenager. When it looked like I was not going to fall for it, the mechanic rushed me out. You are better off going somewhere else or travel further. These people are literally a 10 minute bike ride from my apartment and I would rather ride 30 miles to Piermont to get anything for my bike. Whoever the owner is, get your people's act together.

BAD BUSINESS and a horrible experience! I have been in and out of R&A for over 10 years, buying parts here and there. I also get a chance to look at the spectacular machines that bond the cycling family. A few years ago when the Cinelli Histogram hung in the window I placed it on lay away, making payments every couple of months. I think it took about eight month. My plan is always get it out for the summer. Last week I went to pay the balance on a BMC Track Machine that I placed on lay away about 9 months ago. The bike cost $2,800 I paid down $2,300 over several months. I had a major loss that took my mind off the bike. When I returned to the store last week to pay the balance, with my new shoes and clips to have installed, the had sold the bike. No phone call or notification or follow up of any kind. I stated I thought the bike was secure, I paid down more than half. They said they didn't see any activity and it was not there responsibility to call me. I've herd the horror stories in the neighborhood but didn't believe it. It seems when your business gets so big, the little things don't mater, what a terrible feeling

I couldn't have asked for a better experience at R & A bikes. I went to see Felix for a bike fitting of my 58cm cervelo aspero that I had purchased online and not at their bike shop. After 2 minutes of measurements Felix informed me that I should have purchased the 61cm frame even though my overall height fell in the range for the smaller frame. Apparently as Felix said, I should be 6'3" with my limb lengths, but I have a small head. I was shocked. Not about having a small head, but that I spent thousands of dollars for nothing. R&A had the larger frame I needed in stock but it would have cost me over $5000 to switch everything over to it. Instead of pushing that option, Felix asked if he could work with me on fitting the original bike with the chance that it would still not fit and I'd be out a fitting charge. What happened in the end was fantastic. He dialed my bike in with the best fit I've ever had over a two hour period. Not only was the fitting process successful, it was fun as well. Felix and Luiz the mechanic are funny as hell. They had me laughing the whole time. Thanks so much guys!!! Great job

Looks like a nice shop with plenty of high end bikes , I’m new to road bikes and went in intending on asking some questions about shoes and possibly buying some . The store was empty apart from me and the staff , the staff member (girl with short hair) came over was very dismissive and shook her head at each statement I made . Bearing in mind I told her I was completely new and didn’t know exactly what I was looking for in terms of style , cleats - 2 or 3 screw . I was not expecting a dedicated team to follow me and answer all of my questions but as a neighborhood store I maybe expected a little bit of friendly advice . I tried to show her the pedals I have to match a pair of shoes to but she didn’t seem to care . I promptly said thank you and left . I’d hate to say going to a big box store is the solution as I hate giving them business but I feel like the staff member her wouldn’t give you the time of day unless you have the exact item you want picked out . In that case why wouldn’t you just buy online . I’m hoping it was a once off as the store has some pretty amazing bikes for sale

Poor management and customer service - Don’t waste your time or money here. After ten years of being a loyal customer to R&A Cycles and spending thousands of dollars in their store, I have come to have my crank adjusted on my track bike. (A 30-40 minute repair according to their mechanic) The first and second time I came in for the repair they turned me away, blamed covid, lack of staff, and said they were too busy. I understand covid has every business, including my own, operating differently than normal. On my third attempt to visit the mechanic, before they could tell me they were busy, I was recognized as the guy who keeps getting turned away, and they said to come Sunday 7/12 at noon. Well, Today is Sunday at noon and once again they turned me away. In a time where anything can be purchased off amazon with free two day shipping - I have made a point to support my local bike shop and buy everything I can from local businesses. In my experience, R&A Cycles doesn’t care about their long term customers. I will no longer support or refer people to this business.

Awful! I am very involved in the outdoor industry and gear marketplace and this is THE worst experience I have ever had with a retailer. The owner/manager (or maybe a nobody who is just too far up on his high horse?) was incredibly rude when I called about an order I had placed (of which they sent the WRONG item -- hence, their fault 100%)...anyhow, he got pissed because I had apparently called 30 min before the store opened. Ok sir...I live Colorado and didnt realize you were not quite open yet, but my question is why do you even answer the phone just to yell at a customer? YOU screwed up my order.... you had one job. ONE...and you still couldn't do it right. I'm a brand ambassador for several large companies and this type of representation and attitude is UNACCEPTABLE. I will NEVER shop with this retailer again and as a board member of the CO mtb association , I will make sure everyone I know doesnt give them business either. Glad this douche is in NY (where he clearly belongs and fits in) and not in the real mountains where the chill, happy people are.

I had a fantastic experience at R&A Cycles last weekend. I had done some research prior to going there, but honestly, I really believe I would have ended up with the same bicycle even if my bike-literate boyfriend had not been with me and I hadn't had time to research. We left after about an hour with no purchase. There was no pressure to buy, even though Felix had taken time to measure me. We went to lunch and discussed different options and then returned. I wanted something customised. And R&A delivered, with fair credit for the changes. They then assembled the bike on the premises. The mechanics worked well past store hours to pack it perfectly for the airplane ride home. It really could not have been packed better. All the while different employees - Sheila, Felix, the bike fitter, all offered advice and perspectives. We (my cycle literate boyfriend) and I don't understand the bad reviews of this shop. Go for yourself and see what we mean!

The moment you walk into R&A Cycles, you immediately notice that it is NOT your typical bike shop. The place is massive with a huge variety of products, but that is not what makes it special. It is not even the decades of experience and in-depth knowledge of the owners and the staff. It is the authenticity, the "realness" of the folks at R&A. Whether you are there to purchase a bike at the price of a second-hand car, or just to ask the dumbest questions about bikes, you get the same genuine care and attention. Good old, mom-n-pops style customer service. And their website has absolutely amazing deals! The best part is, they deliver anywhere in the world for a very reasonable fee. And throughout the process, you are not left to deal with some dummy bot that keeps repeating automated responses and getting on your last nerve. You communicate with REAL people! And really cool ones, too! Go to the shop, or visit their website. You won't regret it.

I have purchased three high end bicycles from R & A and assisted a friend in purchasing a fourth over the last three years. My experience(s) have been extremely pleasant and nothing short of excellent. In addition to having, without peer, the best selection of bicycles, I found the sales personnel, the fitters, and mechanics to provide superior service. The team guides you to the best product for your requirement at your price point, assembles a very well put together bike with excellent attention to the details, and fits you to it perfectly. Mind you, this is a very busy shop with customers coming from all over the world. So, It is not a shop to go to for an inner tube or $20. water bottle cage and expect miraculous service. If they are not busy, you will certainly get proper service. R&A specializes in top of the line (and also reasonably priced) bicycles with any conceivable component you want; that's their focus and expertise.

  • Julian GK

I have never left a negative review anywhere but the customer treatment here really warranted it unfortunately. First off, the bike sourcing situation is understandably difficult. That said, the store had initially ordered the wrong size bike for me, then let me wait another couple of months with close to no communication. As we lapsed way past the initial timeline they gave me, I finally got a call but just to be told that they are raising prices on me, even though I had already paid the bike in full almost 6 months prior, patiently waiting. The one comment that particularly stuck with me was that they “don’t need my money” (note that the bike was still a couple grant). After all the months of waiting, just to be tagged with a price increase, I thought that was a very insensitive statement and goes to show the way that customers are apparently being viewed. Not something I’d want anyone else to be exposed to.

  • Julian Ruhe

I tried to buy a bike here, but couldn't get anyone to help for the first 20 minutes. I'm not a superthin racer and I wasn't dressed in full tour de france gear, so I became low priority. When I did get someone's attention and told them what I wanted, they wouldn't listen to what I wanted. Eventually, I convinced them to order a certain model for me that I had researched on my own. They were to call me monday(I was there on a saturday when they couldn't call to check for availability) to let me know if it was available. I never heard from the sales person (who was pretty rude overall). The whole experience left me with a bad taste, so instead of chasing them, I took my business to Brooklyn Bicycles who were incredibly nice, helpful and a pleasure to deal with. I am an extremely easy going customer, but rudeness and arrogance make bad service. Goodbye R and A. I hardly new ye.

  • Michael Andrew

I drove an hour in traffic last week to visit this bike shop to not even stand outside the door for more than two minutes. Sheila opened the door and stood in the doorway and the first words out her mouth were we don’t have any bikes under $2,500. Didn’t ask me what I was looking for/price range/measurements. Was an awkward experience and waste of my time. I called two days ago and Sheila told me to come any time today. So after spending five hours at the Bronx Zoo and being exhausted, on my way home I called to see if I would at least be able to test out the bikes before I drive another hour+ in traffic to waste my time. They told me no and hung up the phone on me. Absolutely the rudest people I’ve ever encountered and worst customer service. I’ll take my $5,000 budget else where these people don’t deserve my business let alone anyone’s.

This past week, I purchased a Colnago at R&A and paid full price. I knew I could purchase the World Cup bike on line for around $600 fewer but I wanted to have the bike shop expertise and fitting for my $2600. Now this is what I got for the joy of going there. I was not given a proper fitting; only received a seat and pedal adjustment. I was not given the op to ride around the block and check the unit or the adjustments. On Monday, the next day I took it out for a quick 10 miles sprint and it was horrible. Fitting was off, the bike adjustments were off and my hands went numbed quickly. The bike assembly was horrible at R&A and I took the Colnago to my local shop and had the thing redone. Now, it's a Colnago. I paid top dollar and got bottom dollar experience. Thanks RA for taking my money and booting me out the door.

  • Yolanda Salamanca

I purchased a pair of sneakers from their website in September and ordered the wrong size. I went on their website and looked at their return/exchange policy and there they suggest that you repurchase your item and return. I did that. I returned my sneakers they were signed for by a Moises on September 18th. Fast forward to now October 18th after many calls with Cynthia a customer service representative, I still have NOT received a refund. It has been a nightmare dealing with this company. From them originally not refunding me because my package was lost (at their warehouse) to an error being made with my paypal not being credited. No one getting back to me, and getting attitude from Cynthia because I am now frustrated when it's been a month I have not been refunded. If I could give zero stars I definitely would.

  • MURRAY HARDIE

I've been a regular at R&A for a few many years now quite simply because it's the best bike shop in town, period. It's not just the exceptional selection of bikes and gear that makes it special, it's the fabulous people who take care of every aspect of the experience involved in selecting the perfect bike. People like Felix Calderon. Felix has an incredible and innate talent born of years of experience, expertise and a love of bikes that you rarely find in this day and age of mechanized fitting machines. His ability to select the perfect bike and fit go way beyond the ability to simple measure you and fit you by the numbers. Felix is a rare talent, who combines the art and science of bike selection and fit and you’ll be hard pressed to beat it anywhere. I highly recommend Felix and the great folks of R&A.

  • Jacob Lissoos

Paid full price for a "brand new" Mavic wheel set from R&A. The wheels shipped with no protective wrapping, just bare in the box. The instruction manuals and tubeless valves were missing, and tire sealant was clearly repackaged. The front rim was nicked, and there was clearly grease left over on the hub. While the damage shown in the images is slight, if I am paying for new wheels, I would expect to get new wheels. It is very disconcerting to me that R&A would try to pass these off to me as new. Luckily, they accepted my request to initiate a return after some slight arguing with customer service, who tried again to convince me the wheels were brand new. And, I had to go out and foot the $25 bill to get them re-packed correctly this time. Definitely do not trust R&A anymore after this experience.

Do you need a bike? Do you want a bike? Do you LOVE mountain biking? Do you want a bike that can take your bunny hops to the next level? Then you have stumbled upon one hellufah gem shop right here! I threw everything I could at these guys to make it as difficult as possible(not on purpose of course, I was just indecisive) and they knocked it out of the park. customer service answered 80% of the time, and even called back when they missed me. I had the CEO in an email thread through the entire buying process helping me with any questions and concerns I could think of. Even after delivery I still have them checking in on me and making sure everything was right. My only wish is that they were hiring so I could work with a great team like this one. Keep up the fantastic work!

  • Travis Tiller

Absolutely abismal customer service. While I appreciate the need for a signature on delivery, most of us work day jobs and can't always be at home to sign for a package midday during the week. I reached out to either remove the signature or ideally, have the package held at a FedEx location down the street from my house. R&A's arbitrary solution - have FedEx hold it at their facility on the other side of the metro area, thus defeating the purpose of having them hold it, as it will still require taking time off from work and rescheduling appointments and take an increased amount of time. Do not order a bike from them unless you work from home or plan to be off anyway and never count on their customer service. The notion of working with the customer is lost on them .

  • morris beyda

I hate this place. I am a avid cyclist and every time I go here I get rubbed the wrong way. I went in yesterday to buy a pair of cycling shoes. I was planning on spending top dollar there but got absolutely no help from the staff. They didn’t measure me or suggest anything. If I wanted to buy something based off my knowledge I’d spend a hundred dollars less and get the same thing online. I thought by going to a real bike shop I’d get the help I needed but not at R&A. Thankfully I live closer to Roy’s. Just to show you the difference, I went to Roy’s first but they didn’t have anything that fit me. Even after I told the person helping me I wasn’t buying anything from him he still helped me and spoke with me for 20 mins. R&A May have some nice bikes but that’s it.

  • Abhinav Sharma

I wish I could give them zero star. I sent an email first to inquire about the triathlon bike but then I decided to call them so I can place an order over the phone as well. Awful experience! Very rude customer service. They advertise 60 days return policy on their website but when I ask the person who answered the call to confirm, his reponse was it’s only 1 day. Then he decided to say that he doesn’t want to sell the bike to me because I was asking him too many questions. I decided to say thank you and hung up the phone. How do you guys expect customers to pay thousands of dollars without even asking you basic question? The attitude he had was totally UNACCEPTABLE. No manners to talk to customers. I Will Not recommended these people for anything.

I had a great experience and don't understand the negative reviews. I recently purchased a road bike frame from their outlet section, great deal by the way. I had concerns based on the negative reviews so I asked some questions through "contact us" rather than immediately buying online. Philip was quick to respond. Assured me it was brand new and never built up, we want back and forth a few times with Q&A. I live locally so he said I could pick up the frame at the store and pay then. I went to pick it up on a Saturday. He wasn't there but had it waiting for me. There were at least three associates in the store at the time, all were very friendly, nice and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from them again. Incredible selection in the store.

  • Steve B.

Updated review: stopped by recently and what a change in experience. As soon as I walked in the lady asked me if I was being assisted and immediately sent over a staff member to assist in purchase new cycling shoes. The young gentlemen was extremely helpful, friendly and was patient. Due to this great experience, I figured I would buy a helmet too and proceeded to try on several helmets. Spent close to $1,000 total but this time I really felt like they were trying to change from their old practices. Due to this recent experience, I will be returning. Big credit to the new young gentlemen working there, what a great positive attitude he has. Keep up the good work, cycling is a big community and we all talk to each other.

Great people doing good things with old world flair, charm, and attention to detail. Granted, I've never been there, but I've been dealing with them via their online business. That they would go out of their way to contact me to tell me that my order was on back order and that they'd contact me when it arrived... Well, who does that kind of attentive customer service anymore in this day and age?! And then 2 days in a row! Well, they do! Not to mention all of the previous email correspondence to let me know that the trainer that I was ordering is delayed and to explain their shipping program. Also one of the people that contacted me is the CEO! I can already tell that I'll be doing more business with them already!

  • Frank B

Bought a Colnago frame from these guys years ago and when it showed up it had some minor damage from the factory. I emailed them and Phil ended up refunding the cost of the frame minus shipping. His rationale was that the frame wasn't damaged it was only cosmetic and "it was in a place that was not visible unless you're looking for it". If I'm paying over 2K for a frame it had better be perfect and its not my problem you don't inspect your product when you receive it from the factory. Needless to say I got burned for my shipping costs because I didn't want to keep a frame I payed full price for that wasn't perfect. These guys have poor customer service and I would be cautious about doing business with them.

  • Patrick Nuti

I really like the shop. They have the best bike inventory in the industry. I showed up Monday morning with out appointment to cut the seat post of my Look 695. Felix and Alberto checked my 6k bike and offered to take the measurements again because they were not comfortable in cut carbon frame with out a real fitting first. After trying different set up they figured out that the problem was the type of saddle not the frame. Thanks to them I save myself a lot of money and my bike. If you are an avid cyclist and you ride upper level cycling machine , R/A is the place to go for a quick fix or second opinion. Their experience and expertise with high end bicycles make a real difference. Thanks guys!!!

  • Marc Mommaas

Because I saw some bad reviews I felt compelled to write one myself. My experience with R&A has been nothing short of fantastic (Spook to Aldo). They are extremely knowledgeable, were very patient at my visit, I was able to fit helmets without pressure to buy and they even went as far as going to the warehouse to pick up exactly what I wanted. Plus, they gave me seat height advice which made a big difference. In modern times of amazon and alike pushing out local stores left and right, and the challenge of high real estate I applaud them. It is a great feeling to walk into a store and check things out with a knowledgeable staff to back up products before you buy. Its my place to go.

  • Jeffrey Sisson

Truly no stars, but apparently I have to at least give them one for being in business. Horrible customer service. In the course of a few weeks both my orders which I paid for were cancelled days later. I was contacted with an email saying "We tried to call you..." four days after I paid for it. B.S., nobody called me! My number was correct on the contact info, I checked. I spent $2,300.00 on a wheelset that mysteriously vanished four days later. Completely lame and with the same stupid apology in an email so they don't have to tell me by phone. Don't buy anything from this shop, there's plenty of other online retailers who have accurate inventory and quality customer service.

  • Tiffany Cunningham

Ordered an item online after speaking with TWO different associates for reassurance that they did in fact have the item I was going to order. I spent the next 4 days on a trip to BROOKLYN from Tennessee so I was even told they would hold the item and not ship it until I was back home. On the day it was to ship, I was then emailed and told they didn't have the item after all. I was in one of the largest cities in the world - New York City, for FOUR days and I could've shopped for the item at any number of stores but didn't think I needed to because after all, I was assured they had it. Terrible way to do business and ruined the one Christmas gift my daughter in law asked for.

  • Jes Sorensen

Urgently needed a chain splitter and this store didn't have a line to get in, in the middle of the pandemic. They sold me an over-priced Park Tool CT-3.2 which broke on first use - I took it back and the store tried to blame me for using it wrongly (I've ridden a bike for 40 years and used numerous chain splitters, but hey). The product is badly engineered, and low quality, but they refused to refund me. Instead they promised to reach out to the manufacturer to get me a replacement tip for the tool .... several months later and I never heard from them again. There was a line around the block at the nearby bike stores, and no line at R&A Cycles .... go figure why that is.

  • Aaron Jun

After having trouble with my bike at the local bike shop, a friend recommended me to R&A cycles. I emailed first to see what the process was and the owner Philip answered within 1 hr and asked me to call the next day. I called the next day and spoke with Luis and mentioned all the issues I had and went in the following day. Upon arriving the shop, Luis took me in and looked over the entire bike and showed me the issues that he spotted. Overall, a great experience in speaking with and working with the mechanic. Store side, I was browsing (with mask on) while waiting and made great conversation with the store staff (didn't catch their names) but they were very pleasant!

  • Jos Smyth

Awesome shop & very knowledgable staff! Felix helped get me set up on the BMC GF01 I wanted to buy. I asked for the 58cm frame, they built the bike, switched the brakes (Euro config) but then after being measured up Felix said I should go for the larger frame as would suit me better. Wasn't any stress for R&A, they brought the larger frame in, made the adjustments & really looked after me. I was going to buy a bike online before but really pleased I came in to talk it through with Felix as otherwise I'd end up with a bike that didn't fit. Felix won't try to oversell you, he'll just share his experience & try to do the best for you. Thanks for the great service R&A!

  • Cleft Of The Rock

Love R&A Cycles. Highly Recommended. Without a doubt the best bicycle dealer in the United States. They got me a bike that no one else in the U.S. could have gotten because they have been in business since 1976. Old school values and the best in high end bicycles. A wonderful selection of every kind of accessory, wheels, shoes, clothing. And hands down they have the best accessible mechanics who are personable and helpful. I will never forget my experience buying from them. Love the Brooklyn store. I only wished they were closer to me. You’ll never regret getting a bike from R&A. Phil kept his promise, he got me my bike in my size and he 100% delivered.

  • Tu Tran

Their customer service and execution after purchase I was very pleased with and would do business with again. I was trying to locate and buy a 2016 Scott Foil Premium frameset. I contacted them via phone and spoke with Aldo who was extremely helpful in ensuring what I was described they had. Once we identified what I wanted and they had on hand, it took just a short period time of processing payment, shipping, and receiving the bike here in California. So again, customer service was excellent. Product was as described, promised, and thoroughly packed, and received ahead of schedule. I would do business with in the future and recommend to friends/family.

  • Liz Harris

I have been researching new tri bikes for over a year. R&A Cycles happened to have the bike I wanted in stock. When I arrived at the shop Tristan was beyond helpful and making sure I was fitted properly and the bike I wanted actually worked well for my frame. I was told they would have to get it from the warehouse and build it, no problem I had waited this long. Anyway, long story short...I went in a couple days earlier than I told them on the off chance my bike was ready...it was not...but they rushed to get it build for me that afternoon. This was above and beyond amazing customer service. Everyone in the shop was helpful and I would recommend.

  • Allen Khaselev

Went there because my brother told me to get my new bike there, no one came up to greet me. I waited 15 minutes for someone, and after I finally got anyone to help they where in such a rush to help another customer he told me to do someone homework on the bike I want and come back. After I came back and spoke to Phil (the owner), I told him I saw the bike I wanted (after doing my homework) and they had it online for $3330, he tells me its impossible that is a $4300 bike. I walked out and purchased the bike online for $3300.00. Needless to say, if someone is looking to spend that kind of money on a bike they should receive much better service.

  • Oliver Townsend

It seems like this bike shop is all about selling $10,000 bikes and not about service. They sold me a pair of $2,000 wheels along with my bike that fit so poorly I noticed they were rubbing against the brake. When I took it to other bike maintenance places in the city to get it looked at, I was told that any good bike shop knows the wheels won't fit on this bike frame. When I took the bike and wheels back to R&A, they assured me they could fix the issue by making some small corrections. The next time I went riding, I noticed R&A had locked me out of half the gears and the wheels still rubbed against the brakes when I got out of the saddle.

  • Joe Alfaro (Stale_Swagoo)

Ordered my bike for the 4th of July sale. Waited a couple of days but didn't receive a tracking number. My correspondence was immediately responded to by r&a. In fact, each inquiry was responded to quickly and professionally. I received my bike and couldn't be happier. It was delivered, lubed, and packaged like you would expect a bike in that price range would be. I assembled the final touches and absolutely love my QR cd0.1. Also got a jersey with my order and it was also great quality. Truly a reflection of this company. I will definitely be doing business with them again. Thanks for keeping in touch with me throughout the process.

  • Hugh Wight

Unbelievably GREAT experience working with the R&A Cycles team on the purchase and configuration of a new Cervelo mountain bike. I don't know if this is a normal thing, but the first email I got back from R&A was from the CEO outlining the process and timing for the build and delivery of my bike. The exchange continued while we worked out the fine details and then BAM!, a couple of weeks later the great guys from THRU bike showed up (in the middle of a tropical storm) to delivery my new baby. Not sure I've ever had a bike shopping experience like this. Would recommend the whole team at R&A to anyone adding a new bike to their daily.

  • Sarah T

I purchased the a $1200 bike online because it was saving me a lot of money. In putting it together I realized that the shifter was broken. The customer service responded rather quickly and gave me a label to return it. I returned it immediately and never heard from the company for 3 weeks. I emailed asking what the update was and got a response saying they would let me know...it's been over a week and nothing. Now seeing that I live in Chicago...having to wait (what I assume will be) 2 months is NOT worth the savings. We are lucky to get 5 months of mountain biking here! What a waste.

  • Hiroshi

I bought 2009 look 596 ipack at R&A cycles. I received the product, but when I opened the box, two parts was missing. I emailed and called them,"Send the two parts as soon as possible!". They sent one to me,but they don't still another. If they cannot send the parts ,the bike is not complete. The parts is much imprortant. I email them again and again ,but they sidestep the issue. And they don't reply me since they sent one. I've been waiting for two month! It is unprofessional for them to keep customer waiting for a long time. They are really irresponsible! Penny wise, pound foolish.

  • charnho siew

Ordered a Quarq D4 & matching crank (considered a large purchase for my pocket) from R&A and admittedly, hit the "order" to transact only to be surprised by poor online reviews and personally from a friend who had visited the store telling me staff members were aloof making him feel sort of unwelcomed. I am pleased to say I have only the best experience with them. All their responses were within 24hrs, politely worded and thankfully reasurring that they have delivered on their SOPs as per their website. And yes, I received my items in good time and condition. :)

  • Zack eitan

In the last two weeks I've been to about a dozen bike shops in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and some in New Jersey. R&a was by far the best shopping experience I had. They let you go into the store, no appointment, no lines outside. They are fully stocked and the showroom looks beautiful as any bike shop should. You can walk around and actually window shop, unlike any other bike shop. Sales Staff are super knowledgeable. Other bike shops in the area like Roys and habitat, feel like a port authority when you go there. R&A feels like the sax Fifth Avenue of bike shops.

  • Ben Jackson

I walked in in March 2019, having known the store for almost three decades. I didn't recognize the place. The store is now a neat and spacious boutique, featuring only the most high-end bikes and framesets on display. If you are a serious road racer, or more likely an enthusiast with lots of money to burn while you still look good in spandex, you will have a great experience with this shop. If you are looking for a bike for your kid or for more casual use or even off-road, you're better off looking for the kind of neighborhood shop that R&A used to be.

  • Pedro Gonzalez

Couldn't picked a better cycling shop to purchase my first road bike. As a complete novice, the manager (blonde lady - sorry forgot your name!), Felix (what an awesome guy), Drew and Luis took the time to explain everything to me and give me top quality, excellent customer service. Not only were all of my questions/concerns addressed, but I truly felt I was being taken care of. Will never hesitate to return and/or recommend R&A Cycles to anyone who wishes to get into the cycling world or improve their cycling experience. 10/10!

I have been here half a dozen times and spent more than $1,000 over the last year. But I’ll never go in again after the older lady behind the counter was extremely rude and belittling. Rather than try to help, she just proceeded to tell me how little I knew. This is place gives Park Slope a bad name. UPDATE: went to a competitor in the city, the friendly person at the counter googled what size post I needed…I spent the $315 there. I wish I NEVER gave R&A a dime in the past and will continue to dissuade anyone from going there.

When we entered RA Cycles my husbands eyes nearly popped out of his head with all the Italian Exotic brand frames. Upon few visits we got to know the friendly and helpful staff like Felix, Gloria, Tristian and the Pit Bull dog as Felix told us it was. Felix was extremely helpful and knowledgeable with getting some preliminary measurements for bike fit up. Since being out of the road biking for a while I was unable to make a decision on the vast choices of frames to choose from but will say once I do I will go here to purchase!

The customer service is great in this place. When I was looking for my first TT bike, I exchange more than 5 emails with the owner before even going to the store. I got there I bought the bike and in 24 hours they had my bike ready. Felix, helped me with the fittings and small details, and it was great experience. He was so helpful and knowledgeable about everything in bikes. It takes time? Yes, but if you’re into bikes and you’re buying one, you should know details matter if you want quality. Highly recommend!

Ordered bike, was charged for bike. Received email that bike had a crack. Received 2nd email that bike "didn't exist". Was refunded money. However, the guy in customer "service" was a jerk, they did not own up to their faulty business practice. (Classic bait & switch). I asked them to remedy it (do me a solid with a discount on another bike)....they refused. Amazingly horrible customer service. Guy said they have been in business for 40 years, well so has McDonald's, doesn't mean it's any good. Never again.

Ordered a Kask helmet, but the one listed on the site was not in stock. Was offered a newer version at the same price with free shipping. It arrived quickly, but I decided to return it. Director of sales and products Sheila G wrote "Unfortunately we do not have return labels at this time. Please send the item back via postal service." Turns out they don't offer return shipping anyway, so why mention it in the first place? Got what I wanted from Competitive Cyclist, where I should've gone in the first place

I wanted to start riding a gravel bike. I had ridden road bikes for years. I gave the measurements of my road bike to salesperson and stated i need a more relaxed frame than my current road bike. And they suggested a frame. I put $7500 in the bike and the frame is so uncomfortable i cant ride it more than 25 miles. I will have to alter the length and angle of stem drastically i am disappointed to say the least. No complaints about quality of the bike or components. Just the direction i was led.

  • Wolter Anthony

one of the worst supplier on the net , says it the world largest and clame on the lowest price ( not always the case). The Support is one of the baddest i've experienced , I bought a frame , paid it , bought additional equipment on other websites , then 4 days later they just told me the frame is out of stock !!! Now I've bought all spare part for nothing and some are non refundable. I am really disappointed since they could not even offer me a discount or a commercial offer on an other frame.

Great store! High quality products and expert advice. Felix is superb. I appreciated that he was completely frank on what works for me and what doesn't. It didn't feel like I was shopping for a bike, but much rather like I had an expert coach in Felix who was genuinely passionate about crafting the optimal set-up for me. Really quite extraordinary. Although the store is a hectic environment with many customers, I had 4 hours of Felix's attention. Made a huge difference. Highly recommended.

Have been lucky to live near R&A for many years and used their service department for a long time. It's now time for a new road bike and there's no one I'd rather work with than Felix and R&A. Felix helped me narrow down choices - the right choices - and has spent hours making sure I'm getting the correct size. This includes measurements and putting me on several bikes on the trainer. You can't beat his knowledge and know how, especially when spending on a new road bike.

  • Alexander Posell

Poor customer service. Multiple times have left me standing, waiting for help, with no acknowledgment whatsoever. I understand that they're busy, but even during slow times I've been ignored by staff. Also was recently told "no" on replacing my brakes with no indication of when I could bring the bike by or when they'd even be open to letting me try. I'd go to Ride Brooklyn around the corner if I was you. Got my brakes fixed there within 1 hour, attitude-free.

So far so good! I was in the shop this past Saturday, waited under 5 minutes to speak with someone. Had all my questions answered by a friendly sales associate. Met with the Fitter (who has plenty of jokes), called on the phone today, again a nice experience. They have a huge selection of bikes at the store and fortunately for me had 3 bikes, my size 61mm of varying levels. I will be sure to update again once the entire process is finalized.

Short story: Felix was great and I am happy with my experience at r&a. Long story: There was an issue with my bike only 28 days after purchase. The issue was the manufacturers responsibility but still I had no assurance that they would fix my bike. Felix went out of his way to work with the manufacturer and resolve my issue. He couldn't promise anything but he did what he said he was going to do and in the end he came through. Thanks!

I contacted RA cycle in New York hoping to find a Dogma F in my size. They had one and Dennis helped me with my custom build. He was extremely knowledgeable and answered all of my concerns and questions. Everything was in-stock except for 3 items. Dennis put in the extra effort was abe to get my backordered parts in good time. My overall experience was outstanding customer service!! Thanks Dennis, Jason, and Al. R.A California

I've been shopping at R&A Cycles for years, posting for the first time. The best store around. Very responsive and helpful in any way. I wish all stores be like this one and not only bike stores. Phil Cabbad store manager and all employees are very friendly and professional. You may ask Phil of anything and he'll go out of he's way to help you despite very busy schedule. I'll be coming to this store or it's website over again.

  • Neil Campbell

I go to R&A for all of my cycling needs. They have an unmatched and lust-worthy inventory of frames and components. Felix has been an asset for getting me on the best bike for my measurements. He's a natural and sincerely cares about his work! I love my Time RXR and can't wait to start my next build with them. Special thx to the service team that has always been prepared to get me back on the road no matter how bad the crash!

  • m. almas

Bought my bike from here a few years back. I pop on in occasionally to grab lubes and stuff. They recognize that and usually give a little discount or a free install if I grab something new. Little stuff like that keeps me going over there. The real reason I keep going there, is because they stock high end stuff at good prices. They have Silca lubes on shelves, Kask helmets on display. Pinarellos and Lightweights everywhere.

  • Joseph Leto

I went into this bike shop to buy a bike for a beautiful little boy and I was amazed at the inventory this bike shop has. This is the bike shop of all bike shops and they have all Italian brands mostly high performance . They have everything you need from bike shoes to all weather gear to racing gloves. They customize a bike to your statue and the staff is top notch. Ask for Albert or Phil. Enjoy and safe travels everyone.

  • Adam Johns

One of the world's great bike shops. Knowledgable, hilarious staff who have more parts, accessories and dream bikes in stock than possibly anywhere else. They specialize in high end bikes for towards racers/cycling obsessives, but if you are looking to invest in a first bike that will grow with you as you get into cycling rather than something you'll want to replace in six months this is definitely the place to go.

  • Christopher Hoffmann

I paid for shipping and I paid to have the item return shipped...and THEN THEY CHARGED ME FOR RETURN SHIPPING!!!! P.S. As discussed, the item was clearly mislabeled in terms of size. I am 5'10 and it was an XL that could not fit someone who was 4'9 and 105 lbs. I put on the jersey and it did not even cover my belly button. So I get why you would charge someone for shipping that you never paid for...!!! Never again!

4.27.18 - Picked up my bib for the Crit and as usually the owner and the staff are super nice and relaxed. It's a neighborhood shop with a lot of cycling gear to offer. I have a different bike Mechanic who I go to, but the owner has been a around for a while and I doubt he would employee mechanics who barely know what they are doing. If you're looking for a great local bike shop, I would recommend R&A for sure.

  • rinze van brug

Best road bike store in the world 3 block from my house :( I’m in trouble haha I got 3 bikes from them and super happy with them Felix is the best bike fitter ever and sheila does not let you leave the store that does not make sense for what you need/want The mechanics are just the sweetest guys And with the kind of bikes i ride i would trust nobody else They are old school no nonsense people and i love that

  • Jeff Pargas

I was involved in a crash in which I was hit by a mini van. My insurance company (velosurance) covered repairs. Luis did an amazing job getting the bike to like new condition and it’s butter smooth. Felix helped me out getting new shoes and getting cleats properly set. I rarely leave reviews but when the service and quality of work are what they are at R and A they deserve it! Got a customer for life here!

  • Stephanie Crane

Got a flat a few miles from home and a few blocks away from here, so I came here to have it fixed and asked the employee if he removed whatever it was that had punctured the tube, too. He assured me he had, charged me $23, and the same wheel went flat again right after. Found the shard inside the tire while patching the flat at home. Won't be giving my money to this place or its lazy, lying workers again.

  • Richard G

I don't know about the in store service, however the online and phone support was wonderful. I worked with Sheila over the phone and by email and she steered me away from buying a bike that was probably too small for me. She took my measurements and made sure I was looking in the right direction. She was more concerned that I got the right bike than making a sale, even if it meant I got a bike elsewhere.

  • Greg Adomaitis

Nothing but positive interactions and only leaving a review because the negative ones don't reflect my experience at all. Ordered a bike online, had doubts about the size, drove up from Philly to try two (which they built up for me in advance), went with my initial order and still got a thorough bike fit from mechanics. Responded to emails and phone calls every time -- my thanks to the entire staff!

  • Michael Zidile

Come here if you know exactly what you want. Down to the model and componentry. Otherwise, don't bother! The staff including the fit guy, Felix, won't even bother dealing with you if you don't have the exact part numbers and specifications for a bike you are interested in. While they may have a wider selection, every other bike shop in Brooklyn has better service. Spend your money elsewhere.

  • Danny Rossi

Highly recommend R&A Cycles for their support and professionalism in assisting me with a recent purchase. The discounted price was a big bonus (over 40% off). Communication via email was excellent and always received prompt replies. Also kindly offered to swap the free hub driver with another rear wheel to make it compatible with my groupset. Thank you very much for all your assistance.

  • John Ippolito

The best high-end bicycle shop in all of NYC. The staff are experts, the mechanics solid, and the bike fitter is the best I have seen in years. They will help, educate, and direct you in the right direction. They care about your bicycle experience, versus just trying to sell you bike "products". Their Brooklyn confidence is reflected in their questions, and answers. Highly recommended.

  • Geraldo Agramonte

First class customer service. Second time buying a set of wheels from them and they deliver every time. If you are looking for top notch bike parts, this is the place to go in the tri-state area. Can I review them twice? No, but they deserve 10 stars. Another order of parts and another seamless transaction. Fast delivery, great inventory count, great experience time and time again.

  • Gary Meade

I first bought a bike here 25 plus years ago. In those years, I have bought two specialized bikes and a child's bike. I still every now and then might buy tubes, small pumps, co2 cartridges etc. This was my go to shop. The thing is they are somewhat of a high end shop now. Yes they sell other levels bicycle etc. I am not knocking them as that side of there business has exploded.

  • Brian Lam

One of the very few shops that had the bike I was looking for this year. Very quick to return emails and very fast shipping even across to border to Canada. Would definitely recommend this shop for anyone looking for an amazing bike. My bike was packed up amazingly well and secure and was a breeze to assemble. Can't thank you guys enough for putting me on this amazing machine.

  • Gavin Jarus

Ordered last years model of the BMC Grandfondo GF02 from R&A. My situation was challenging in where to send the bike, and R&A worked with me over the phone. It worked out great. I got the bike in the original packaging at a 25% discount over retail and the best price by around 10% over the internet. They were very friendly over the phone. This is a great place to buy a bike!

  • Tony Le

Nice clean store in a great location . The sales guy was a bit snooty though. I wanted an endurance bike but he kept steering me to a Argon racy bike that was not my style (too low for me). He asked about my current stem length and then proceeded to laugh. He then said "dont ever say that to anyone else" They are very knowledgeable Could work on people skills though

  • Ben Prager

As an avid cyclist, I highly recommend shopping and working with R&A Cycles. Luis in repairs is hands down one of the best mechanics in BKLYN. He’s passionate about what he does, really knows his stuff and actually remembers you and your bike. Great accessories, food and gear too. They’ve got the very best of everything you need for casual and professional riding.

  • Vidal Melendez

Came in for what I thought was going to be a flat and a bike lit. Thankfully the Lord from heaven above sent me VICTOR to assisting me. He was Soo helpful with Q&As as well as providing outstanding customer service. Just when I thought ride Brooklyn was the place to go, sike ! R&A cycles for all your cycling needs. Right on the corner of happy and healthy !!!!

  • bnkiragu

I recently bought a Bianchi Oltre Pro from R&A Cycles in Brooklyn, I worked with Sheila over several months, she was very professional, patient and knowledgeable, she walked me through the whole process step by step, in the end i received my new bike all dialed in, set up and ready to ride, thank you to the R &A Cycles team, you are a cut above everyone else!

  • Theodore Shugars

Bike mechanic seemed very knowledgeable and professional he worked on my bike like it was own. The rest of the staff were friendly and ready to help. I would definitely refer this place to travelers like me or to the locals that need repair or gear. They seem to have a lot of stock for hard core riders or just the everyday rider to get to work. Thanks guys.

  • Ben Hirt

If you happen to visit the store, find Felix. Have as many questions as possible ready for him. Felix is a genius with decades of experience! Make sure to pick his brain and listen to his advice! His consulting/fitting is spot on and makes all the difference when investing in a new bike! The entire team is great btw, the store's selection fantastic!

  • Steve Hendricks

Zero support after the sale. Purchased a new Bianchi frame last month and get zero consideration on parts needed to make it work. Sending back the frame now and suggest that you do research before you pay their ridiculous prices. Just simply poor customer service and only concerned with that initial dollar versus forming a relationship
